Across the Drag Race Universe, we've seen hundreds of design challenges and looks from using things like garbage and dollar store items, to repurposing clothing, to getting access to high-end fabrics. Throughout the years we've gotten some pretty terrible looks, but also some of the best that belong on Project Runway or in fashion shows.
Today, we'll be ranking the Top 25 design looks on RuPaul's Drag Race as voted on by YOU!

Mik was the trans-token of the season, so they have to praise her as much as they can in expense of the other queens

@@brofourtwenty2143 US dress size 16 is considered 'plus size', a lot of queens are at least that. We just don't clock it as 'plus size' because we're hardwired to associate plus size = obese. But we still dismiss the fashion of queens of that size over the 'model-esque' ones that dominated this poll.

I think a lot of people forget that after the season a lot of the girls said that during the ball Utica was helping everyone in the room and she still managed to make that outfit.

Utica's sleeping bag dress is the sole reason I became interested in costume and fashion design as an artist.

Megami actually won a Drag Race cosplay contest by recreating Mo Heart's season 10 design look. Iconic
Utica's Sleeping Bag gown is simply out of this world. The concept, the craftsmanship, the execution. Flawless couture. I know this has been many times before but THAT is avant garde. Something we've never seen before, something with a lasting impact forever. I literally had a dream about it once like HOW COULD A HUMAN BEING POSSIBLY MAKE THIS!? In 8 hours??
Not even 8, she said they were given 6 hours day 1 and the 4 in day 2. She completed it the first day in UNDER SIX HOURS. The talent is unmatched

When I was watching S13, my straight manly brother with no interest in Drag Race audibly GASPED when I showed him Utica’s sleeping bag dress and he was SO outraged it didn’t win the ball. To me that was the strongest indicator of the impact that look had on the human race

I mean, the world really changed after Violet’s Hello Kitty look.
My world changed after her plaid runway look.
Utica is the best seamstress, combined with being a visionary herself. She doesn't just make garments, she creates magic.
I saw one of her looks online she recently made and I literally made an Instagram account just to follow her. She is so talented.
Utica, Nymphia and Awhora were all looks i voted for and I'm so happy they were the top 3. I'm with you that Trinity's red latex look should be up in the top 5 too, it's just absolutely mindblowing. I voted for it.
I do think more popular queens and queens from more recent seasons had an edge here. Divina's laundry bag look was better than several of these.

Utica’s sleeping bag look is the best thing made on the show cause I wouldn’t have known it was made from sleeping bags if you told me and it looks like she brought it from home which are the best type of design challenge looks when it looks like you brought it with you instead of making it. The newbies of season 16 Nymphia and Q being some of the best sewers of the franchise blew me away. Mo Heart being safe was one of the wildest things on drag race period.
Shae's cuntstruction worker look is just sheer perfection in my eyes. Ill never forget watching that episode for the first time and seeing that runway, so good.
I remember it feeling cheap.

@@Octobrisi think it’s just because the flannel fabric she *had* to use was so thin. i agree it did make the cape look cheap. if she had double or even triple lined it i think it would have been perfection, but obviously she did not have the time for that
When I clicked on the video, there was not a single doubt in my mind that Utica would be taking the number 1 spot, and the voters were CORRECT

@@jakubpuchalski2583 Yeah it was very difficult for me to pick just 5 looks from the list given so i basically eliminated any looks from seasons i personally haven't watched, which includes the majority of foreign seasons, and I feel like based on the rankings was most ppls philosophy when making their votes too.
Anastarzia's puffer jacket from canada 1 not being top 25 is mindblowing to me
SERIOUSLY - and that she didn't win that design challenge still boggles me. When she walked out I KNEW she was going to win. When they announced that R.B. won...I was shooooook.
Just realising that it's kinda wild that I didn't consider trinity as a fashion queen as shes much more comedic in my mind. It really shows how incredible trinity is as a winner. I never cared much or paid attention to design challenges until I had a revelation this week about them and I'm so excited for the next episode as I also LOVE everything goth and really hope they do it justice (although neo-goth will allow for a lot more flexibility).
Trinity is easily a contender for THE most versatile queen of the whole franchise.
Trinity went into her season being known as a pageant and look queen. The fact that she didn’t occur to you as a fashion and instead as a comedy queen shows how talented she is. She had a whole moment on her season of realizing that she didn’t just have to be pretty but that she could be funny and she really just ran with it. People have mixed feelings about her, but I’ve always enjoyed her (especially on All Stars) and think she really is an all-rounder. Okay, maybe not a singer, but you can’t win them all 😂
Uggh Trinity really is that girl, the red vinyl look is an all-timer for sure!
My favorite part about that look is they asked how she got the sides so perfect and she goes something like "I think there was some math involved. " lol
I am still in awe of Q's doll look a few weeks later. Like she's giving fairy villainess from a Barbie movie. Obsessed!

Crystal and Davina's design looks from UK S1 were SO good, I'm shocked neither are on this list.

@@thomascrowley8116 Divina's look was reading Bowie and burberry. Her presentation was very editorial with the parasol. Crystal was reading rococo and Harry Potter. Both looks were great but Divina's clearly fit the brief better idk how you could argue she wasn't reading fashion.

@@merychan13well, it had great concept and pretty good execution, however it’s definitely a bit understated. I do think it’s better than the challenge winner's tho bc….it was a dress with balls on it, not a dress made of balls.

Scarlett's Blue ball gown was stunning, it was criminally overlooked too.
Utica and Nymphia being in the top 2, and Gottmik's look not making the top 25, makes perfect sense with my fantasy
I think Divina de Campo's design look is an underrated one. It was made with unconventional materials and I love the style of makeup with it
my best friend had pretty much zero interest in drag race, but i showed him the bag ball and he really fell in love with the show after seeing utica’s dress and lala’s “look”. the design challenges are always my favorite, and season 16 has really been giving. so so so impressed with nymphia and q.
I think there is some rigorry about non-international franchises like The Countess, Pakita, Crystal, Carmen Farala, Tessa Testicle, Naza, Keiona, etc.

Controversial opinion: as much as I really ove and appreciate classic silhouette ball gown looks like Scarlett's or Trinity's, I probably would rank them much lower than they are because they're not doing anything new or super interesting with the "design" part of the challenge. Are they super clean and well-made? Yes. Do they look really pretty? Yes. Is there any interesting design elements? No. This is why unconventional material outfits are always more interesting and impressive and if you were given fabric to work with, you better turn it into creative moment like Shea or Raja did.

I honestly would have placed willow pill's glamazon prime look somewhere from 25-20. I think it's such a great conceptual look I love the long arms so much and I think she hit the nail on the head in terms of the aesthetic. the skirt itself is also adorable.
All of Jaidas Design and Ball Look could make the list. Also the Drag Race Germany Design Challange Episode 2: Pandora, Yvonne, Meta, LeLe, Loreley, any of them could also be in that list.
I will always love Anetra's gown with the spines/bones on it. It fit impeccably, she looked flawless, and I kept wanting to zoom in on the details and was sad that I couldn't. I wish I had a catalogue of all design looks so I could see them all at once instead of calling on my memory. Design challenges are always my favorite to watch. :)
If Utica has no fans, then I am dead. Her eye for fashion and art is ASTOUNDING!

I love Anetras and Luxx’s looks but yeah no way they deserved top 5 xD with nymphias I do honestly think that even without recency bias it would be in the top 5
31:00 - Not necessarily Top 25 but deserves an Honorary Mention is BenDela's Golden Girls look from S6. She managed to make a full on gown and fascinator using nothing but a hot glue gun, and that dress was **snatched** to her body like it was couture.
Utica's look, oh my God, I was silently thinking. I wonder if that's gonna show up on the list and then I was like thinking. That's definitely my number one and when that was number one I was like no way so awesome.

Bruh thinking Anetra's look shouldn't be that high but Violet's is totally fine where it is like-- Violet's was great but it's a corset with a fun shape at the waist and and a steering wheel on her face, Anetra's is literally one of the most beautiful gowns I've ever seen. I am not doubting that Violet's took a lot of skill and work, it obviously did, but I feel like people remember it as being so so so amazing because of the looks it was up against in season 7.

I think this poll could have been improved by having people also select which seasons they have seen so that we can get a proportional vote, so that older seasons aren’t artificially reduced.
Trinity the Tuck is a consummate sesmstress. Her design challenge looks are even better than her custom made outfits which is stunning skill.

I often think about the design that The Countess from Holland Season 2 made from glamping materials, especially the way she used inflatable crocodile to make a coat and a bag. Similar to Violet, she made very sophisticated and high fashion look from tacky materials, choices like that make me anticipate drag on a dime challenges.
Not to be That Person, but apparently, the No. 1 secret to having an iconic design look that the fandom will fawn over forever is "Be a size 2".
Icesis's coat look being #12 is INSANE. Very overrated, literally the worst thing she's made in a design challenge.

I can see your point regarding Anetra, but personally speaking, the one that I kind of totally don’t think should have made list is Luxx. Now I agree and understand why she won with that look. But as a whole, it doesn’t sit well with me compared to some of the other looks on the list, as well as some that didn’t make the list.
The problem here is that not all voters watched all seasons, so non english speaking franchises have 0 shot. I bet some España/France/Italia looks could be here for sure

I think there should be a maybe 3 year “probation” period on lists like these. Like a look has to be older than three years to be considered even, because you don’t know how memorable it will be as it ages, no matter how blown away you are in the present.
THERE ARE SO MANY FROM NON ENGLISH FRANCHISES THAT DIDN’T make the list. I mean- but still all these are so good!

I truly believe the only reason Utica didn’t win that episode is because it took three times down the runway to give us that model walk. Imagine if she walked the poodle fit with the same regal air. We love her goofiness but when you look like a MODEL act like it. That’s why the sleeping bag look worked so well, she hopped right out of vogue and she FINALLY felt her oatsssss
If Nymphia didn't use starch to stiffen the ties, she probably used wires inside the ties to bend them.
