  • Khatanga is a town located in the very North of the Krasnoyarsk region, and it is one of the main bases in the Russian Arctic. There’s a seaport on the Khatanga river which flows into the Laptev sea, and only this port has vessels capable of passing through the most difficult areas of the Arctic Ocean. Also, Khatanga is about to become a base for the flights to the North Pole. It's time to clean up this town and its coast from the Soviet 'heritage'!

This place reminds me of the Kakhovka Dam region near Kherson. It used to be a beautiful place of fertile farmland. Then the Russians showed up, blew up the dam, destroyed the the villages, and poisoned the countryside. Now it looks just like this (the garbage pile I mean), except way more corpses.

@@jrmc732 Don't worry, that garbage didn't go anywhere. The video is purely soft propaganda paid for by the Kremlin. These people are paid to make propaganda. They did not fly in a jet thousands of miles to pick up some random bits of metal and glass. Obviously Shoigu is not paying for that. The whole thing is a show to soften western minds.

What a beautiful surprise today, to find this new video, about Khatanga.
I'd been there almost 30 years ago, in April 1994 during an expedition to the North Pole we made a stop by in Khatanga for a few days. We also flew the IL76 cargo plane, also a AN72, AN28 and some Mil8 Helicopters.
It definitely looks very different now in the summer, it was still completely frozen. It was the year before they discovered that big mammouth.
I still have a beautiful memory of the people in Khatanga. Both Russians and the Chutki (eskimo people), as well as the dogs, lot of them and very friendly.
I also agree about the weird feeling due to the full day sunlight. I didn't sleep for three days.
The port on the river was completely frozen and some ships were stuck in the ice, only a couple of them were active (sort of military radio equipped vessels).
We didn't have any issues with the polar bears, however we'd been told that a few weeks earlier there had been an accident nearby the airport.
There were also some deers around; the Chutki were running some herds and once we flew the helicopters to jump nearby a Chutki village with a lot of deers.
That was one of the most memorable experiences of the trip in the area.
    Very friendly and nice people.
On the way back from the North Pole, when we stopped by at a small island in the arctic ocean (Sretnj Island) together with a canadian friend we decided for a small walk and the military gave us an AK, just in case we encountered a bear. We didn't. But in April on the frozen ocean it's not that unusual to meet some. Especially moms with cubs, or some errand hunting males.
OMG... so many great memories, definitely missing that place.
I'm really Happy to see that you're organizing and cleaning the Arctic, such a beautiful, fragile and important environment. It really deserves to care about.
Thank You for taking care of the environment and to show this unknown beauty to the world.
BTW. Polar bears are my most favorite animal, I really love them.
Take care and keep doing your inspirational videos.
    Thank You so much.

Absolutely fascinating, great footage of some very unusual environments! The Mammoth still half locked in the ice...wow!! 💗 The landscapes of Siberia are really majestic, it's too bad that it's become so logged with old garbage here and there, but to tell the truth you could find just as run-down locations in some places in the US I think.
Nearly twenty years ago, during a Russian general election - I don't remember which year it was - a Swedish journalist whom I happened to know some, and who had lived and worked in Russia for many years from the mid-90s on, flew up to the Taimyr peninsula to do some reporting and talk with local indigenous people there about the election and so on.. She must have flown over Khatanga or possibly Norilsk, she continued with a helicopter (probably leased from the army) up to the Taimyr, to seek people out in their tents and cottages on the frozen tundra.

    Hi Eli,
This video was so impactful and impressive that I don't think the thumbnail does it justice, or would draw as much people into the video as it deserves. Just my initial thought so just wanted to see if you'd agree.

Awesome video. I just found your channel after I listened to two of my favorite anime openings which is from Ghost in the Shell “Inner Universe” and “Rise” by the Russian artist Origa yesterday and it always made me want to learn some Russian so I finally started learning some on Memrise and Duolingo and was googling other videos of Russian speakers and came across some of yours and ended up diving into your other videos and subscribing. You seem like a lovely person with a great channel and I look forward to seeing more 👍
Best regards from North Carolina, USA.

If you check out Grytviken on South Georgia, you will see what you can achieve on what was an old abandoned whaling station. It looks totally returned to nature now.

Some of the mammoths died so suddenly they still have buttercups in their mouths, the ones they were chewing when they died. One expedition in the 1800's found mammoths so well preserved they were able to cook and eat some of the meat. And the humans lived to tell the tale, so the meat was OK after 4,000 years.

The presence of a lot of people in that permafrost hotel will generate heat that will melt the permafrost.

Thank you very much for another wonderful look at another part of Russia. Strangely enough I did know of Khatanga as I've always been fascinated by arctic Russia - seeing where some of the great rivers of the world meet the sea - Lena, Yenisei, Ob. The mammoth was very impressive, as was some of the weather - it was almost the same as a summer holiday on the east coast of England.😀

Very good idea to clean up. Russia always to me shows some existential truth in full clarity. Like films of Tarkowski. Though it´s sad, there is hope and beauty. And it´s human. Great video. Thank you.
Mammoth reminds me of an excellent museum in Perm with a mammoth baby ...
