I know a young man who is DACA. He worked 3 jobs to pay for his college classes, because he did not qualify for any assistance. The classes he was taking were Fire Fighting. He chose that because he wanted to be of service to the country he lives in. He is a Wild Land Fire Fighter in California.
Lolololol, if I wanted to be on benefits, the US would be the LAST country I would go to. ...
But also the vast majority of people who enter are pulled in by large corporations and that makes a lot of sense if you give it some thought. Migrating to a country is hard and requires quite a bit of contacts and money to get you through the process. However if you have money and contacts why would you migrate?
The vast, vast majority of migrants come in via work visa which is why although the republicans will continue to make a spectacle of the border to drum up xenophobia they will never actually close it cause that would seriously upset their capitalist donors.
If Trump actually had made serious steps to build the wall and clamp down on migration all of America's megacorps would have abandoned him.
I have been a registered voter for over 45 years. I have also been a working person for longer than that. This country was built by immigrants. My grandparents came as immigrants to the US. If a person obtains legal entry to this country, they should be treated as equal to someone born here. We can not become a nation of exclusion and hate.

Immigrants come here to work, not like some of our on natural born looking for handouts and too proud to work in fast food or too lazy to do something constructive.
I personally know a man that came here legally from Mexico. And built a multi-million dollar roofing business in Alabama.
Our company has sub contracted to him many times over the past 10 - 12. Years
And he had already spent over a decade trying to get his sister here legally when we first started using him as a sub contractor.
He couldn't get in legally NOW is the point.
My wife came here from China. The USCIS was especially suspicious of a Chinese female. Back in 2014, there was no way for her to get a tourist visa to visit me in the USA because the USCIS believed she would overstay her visa. I had to go visit her instead. Luckily, she lived in Shen Zhen and was close to Hong Kong which was much easier for me to travel to because they didn't require a visa from an American and they all spoke English. So, we had to court mostly in Hong Kong and then when we got serious I went into China to meet her family. All that because the USCIS held a strong bias against her.
So, we ended up getting married in Hong Kong and then since she was the spouse of an American the visa was pretty easy. However, the the next 5 years we still had to prove that we were indeed legitimately married for her to get a long term visa. We had to prove our innocence. It was very insulting and degrading to have some bureaucrat in a position to throw her visa away. However, these measures did indeed keep out those who planned to abuse the system. But, we had all the paperwork to PROVE she wasn't abusing her visa in a fake marriage. After the proper time she eventually became a US Citizen. She has gotten her degree and now a nice accounting job.
And today her and I see people just walking over the border illegally, getting a lot of free stuff instead of jail or deportation. They are taking those little jobs that Rep. Omar says her father took to get by when he first arrived. And they are also doing who-knows-what since we don't even know who they are or what their purposes are.

My parents are immigrants from Mexico and they work and have a business too . They raised a family of 10 kids. I am a proud American parents . They worked in the fields of Ventura,County! In fact California farms.
Listening to Rep Omar is so very educational. Everything she says is colored by the fact that she was born in and lived in countries other than the US, unlike nearly every other member of congress. Those experiences shape her worldview.
And that's why Republicans hate her.
This was excellent and why anyone would for republicans is utterly astonishing.

I am a big fan of Rep. Omar but, in general, I am not a fan of the American (now, alas, universal) "dream" of toxic meritocracy. Not everyone "succeeds," no matter how much they strive. And perhaps not everyone is able to strive. Sometimes they can just barely survive. My ideal, albeit (currently!) a utopian one, is a society where people not only survive or strive but also thrive.
The cost of legal immigration is about $20,000. Most US citizens could not afford that.
And it takes years before they can become citizens

I love how directly following the end of this video, i got an ad from Hillsdale College 🤮 about a class on American citizenship. Why is this report not something that mainstream media is willing to put out there?!
She is indeed brilliant, and I applaud her statements. EXCEPT - The American dream and dead and empty and is basically a society consumed by consumerism, escapism and materialism, while ignoring its own complicity in war and persecution of others, and attempting to maintain dominance over the rest of the world rather than living in harmony. So why attempt to seek the American Dream? In 2024... I wouldn't.

Illegal immigration is a real problem and we cannot afford to simple allow everyone to come to the USA who wants to.
But, that does not mean we should treat the overwhelming majority of illegal immigrants who are risking their lives to seek better lives because they are that desperate with the lives they are currently living. These illegal immigrants are people and should be respected as people.
That still doesn't mean we allow anyone who wants to come into the USA to come in, especially illegally.
I think one of the things we should be doing is looking at the countries that massive numbers of people are fleeing from, risking their lives, to illegally try to get into the USA, and we should apply serious pressure upon those countries to STOP whatever they are doing to cause so many people to flee their country.
Illegal immigrants should never receive priority over actual citizens. I don't know why that's so hard for you people to understand.

I know some really really smart people from Asia. They immigrated to Canada first and then got a Visa to work in US.
