22,500 2020 C8 Stingray I never had the gear slam from a start or stop. I save my clutches at traffic light and Stop signs by pulling both paddles and I come to a stop and then hold one paddle to hold the transmission in neutral until just before the light changes. I release the one paddle the car shifts into 1st gear and smoothly pulls away, at 25 mph I hit resume and come back up to the the set Cruse speed!

Sorry to hear about your transmission problem. Love you channel. I was watching your Tuesday show this week on exhausts. Very good. FYI I discovered, if you remove the fuse in the fuse box that's for the NPP exhaust, the valve will still open all the time, so you get the full benefit all the time regardless of the speed or RPMs, even at idle speed. I love it that way, it sounds better. I know it works on all c-6s and c-7s. Best part it does not hurt anything and is free because I did it.

When I see videos like this, and read comments on the Corvette forums about a myriad of problems, I am starting to re-think buying a Z06 because that could be even more problematic because of the new engine technology for GM, plus the high horsepower impact on the tranny. I have had zero problems with my last three Acuras. My last corvette was problem free but I replaced everything on the car: engine, tranny, rear end, suspension, brakes, wheels.

Mike, I am so sorry to hear about this unfortunate turn of events. That just sucks! The good news is that it is under warranty. I remember a video Rick Conti put out quite some time ago about a C8 sitting in their shop for a very long time awaiting a replacement transmission. My first thought then was, you mean it is sitting in their shop (as the warranty continues to burn the clock) and they will not be compensated for extra warranty because there’s not a timely replacement transmission? My next question would be if they were afforded a loaner? Aside from our Corvettes, our daily drivers have always been either Lexus or along those lines. I NEVER paid as much for any of our other cars as I did for our Corvettes but got much better customer service and satisfaction IF anything (which was rare) happened. This is one of many reasons that I think Corvette should be its own separate brand. Until then, you take your $100k car into the Chevrolet dealership and get treated like you bought a Volt. Thanks for the video, Mike, and I pray it is a short wait for you, my friend!

Man! I’m seriously thinking I will be pulling the plug on my deposit for this car. I have seen tons of transmission failures on RUclips Facebook and the Corvette forums. I have been waiting for a year so far but…….it’s better to bail than get stuck with a lemon.
People will say “that’s what warranty is for” think of the long term. If you keep this thing past warranty you’re going to be stuck with huge bills every time the trans fails.
I kept my last Vette for 15 years. I regret selling it now. I sold it to help get me into the C8. At that time no one knew this car was garbage.

My wife 22 had the same problem, plus at times it wouldn't move. Same deal with GM, had to jump through the hops before they (GM) would replace the valve body, then the trans. So far the valve body did the trick. Had less then 2000 miles on the car. GM NOW makes the transmissions in house. 🤞

The problem as you described it just started happening to my late production 2023 70th with 10,900 miles yesterday. I was trying to figure out how to word the issue, poor feathering of the clutch resulting in tap tap tap feeling like running over a rumble strip when going thru the gears. Also, when starting there is a very rough engagement and similar feel when stopping. More noticeable in Sport mode with light to moderate acceleration and the issue is more noticeable 1 - 4.

Local dealer took a week to rebuild it while we were stuck in a rental. 3 days late getting home, two days later it craps òut again. Took it to my home dealer, later I called to see if it was ready. Dealer said there was a bulletin from Ford that all failed Tauras transmissions were to be returned to the factory and a new one ìnstalled. I called the vacation dealer and wished his mother good health as she was by the road barking at cars.

I know DCT's are very popular and even more popular these days but I am just not a fan of them. I had a DCT in a new car and I had nothing but issues with it. It would hang, stutter, not shift properly, etc. I took it in to the dealer several times and was told that is just the nature of a DCT. Needless to say, I felt that was an excuse. The dealer did ECU updates and while it helped, it didnt' fix it. Long story short, I got rid of the car. I hope you are able to get your DCT issues resolved and its not a continual issue. Good Luck.

Mine lunged a few times the first 1500 miles but has not done it since and I now have 6500 miles. I now drive in manual mode when sitting in traffic and never have a problem. But went in for dct filter change they said I have a very small transmission fluid leak and it needs new seals and they will have to take the transmission out to do it. And they can’t get to it for 3 months!!

I got one better. Went to start my 2022 C8 with 835 miles . When I pushed the
Button to start it check transmission light came and all of the lights at transmission buttons started flashing
It started but transmission would go into gear. Tried it again and the same. Came back in 2 hours and couldn’t turn engine over but nothing would happen. Seemed like the battery was now dead. Tried to jump it but that didn’t work. Had to call GM to get a tow truck.
The headache continues. Computer generated selection that picked a towing company 1 1/2 hours away. Called back and computer generated selection now 1 hour away. Called them for a 3rd time and told the representative that she would have to do the selection to find one close. She got one 10minutes away
Towed to the dealer and he got it started but now can’t replicate the issue after a week now. Said he can’t do anything until he can replicate the problem for GM. He thinks it’s the transmission. Disappointed Corvette owner who has owned them for over 50 years

I am 50/50 on buying a 2022 C8r, but I keep reading horror stories on these cars being so unreliable, what’s your thoughts ?

Why can't they just repair it? If the transmission is under warranty, there are worse things than a new transmission.

Very sorry to hear this Mike...wishing you luck. Just curious, did you have the 2 additional liters of trans fluid added? I have a 23 C8 non Z51 with just over 1K miles, and have noticed an occasional lurch after sitting at a stop sign/light. Never had a DCT previously, so thought it might be happening normally during the break in period, but not so sure now. I guess this is why we have warranties, but it still stinks. Will be following your updates closely and keeping a very close eye on mine as well.

Thank you, I appreciate this very much. I did have them added last year. Yeah, I’m not sure how this happened, it’s been great for 17,000+ miles. 👍

Could the cinder block fiasco have caused this?

Yeah, I would say, probably not, just because I drive mine in manual mode 99% of the time, which stops cylinder deactivation from happening.

With any other transmission they could be rebuilt. I guess for what ever reason these can not be rebuilt and you throw it away and get a new one. What a great design, a lot of the older transmissions can be updated with help from companies like Sonnax they have all kinds of fixes that car manufacturers do not want or care to fix. Just wait until the C8's are out of warranty and the owners have to pay out of pocket.

I had a PT cruiser that did that.I had 15k miles on it .Never drove it hard,it had a turbo.I stopped and it felt like some body rearended me.I jerked around some times to,Will I took it to the Dealer and they told me my transmission was toast. This was around 2004 the car was a 2003.It took 3 weeks to fix. They said they never replace the transmission just rebuild it.I had no trouble from the transmission after that but I had bookoo other problems,So I got rid of it .It was a real lemon. As a retired auto worker I can say never buy the firtst 2-3 years a car first comes out.To many things go wrong. My PT was the first year car.Sense the car factories do NOT make all the parts any more you get parts from all over the place. Many do NOT have quality control. They make stuff half ass to save money and this is what happen. The thing that bugs me is you cant depend on the car when you go any place ?Good luck with that Vett.

Damn sorry man. There have been A LOT of these trans issues all over the FB C8 group. It seems that at least once a day when i open up facebook, someone posts their scenario of a faulty transmission. I have a stingray on order that i should get around spring but now i'm worried if i made the mistake. Cars like the GT500 with the DCT don't suffer from this. Hopefully the new z06 doesn't suffer from this as well as my name is on that list also. But i won't see that car for about 3 years so i'm hoping they fix those issues by then.
I want to own a stingray so bad but these trans problems are making me rethink my purchase.

My hellcat was rock solid mechanically. The interior was another story as my door panels and dash warped from heat, needing to be replaced. It’s always something it seems, no matter what car you buy

I am so sorry to hear this! I was watching another video review of living with the C8 for 2 years, and that particular owner was fortunate enough that he did not experience transmission problems, but he did mention that there was a prevalence… I wish this car was designed to have a traditional manual transmission… which is a much less complex piece of machinery than an automatic, no matter if it’s a dual clutch like yours or a cvt… Good luck!
