Ladies and gentlemen, today, I will discuss the reliability of the C8 Corvette, whether you should buy one, and the truth about Corvettes.
Chip Miller Tickets Purchased, honest video, even if it opens a can of whoop ass! 🙂
As someone who has only driven German sedans and was considering buying my first Corvette, this video terrifies me. You’ve had major reliability issues with all 4 of your Corvettes and yet refuse to say that Corvettes are unreliable generally because you think you’re in the “1%” of “bad luck” owners. If I had ANY of the engine/tranny problems you’re describing I’d be highly skeptical of purchasing from that manufacturer, let alone that very same model, again. I feel like Corvette owners convince themselves they’re unworthy of sportscars that work the way they’re supposed to because they’re paying so much less $$$ than the competition, but when the new C8 (stingrays) are selling for $100K with dealer markups, it’s time to start demanding more from your brand. No way a car that commands such a high price should give you such grief.
No one loves Corvettes as much as I do but the car is having more issues than one would expect.
I'll just say, ive never owned a Corvette of any model but since ive been wanting the mid engine version C8 ZO6, ive been following articles and vidoes pretty closely to learn more about them. I'll admits, I'm not as impressed with the car dependability as i was hoping to be. This video speaks volumes about the car. Its hard to hear him say the C8 is still a dependable car with all the issues he had encountered amongst all the other issues im hearing people are having.
Not to mention they are starting to hit the resale market at an alarming rate for a car people swore was the best Corvette made yet. I know most people that bought them won't really tell there true feelings about the car but thanks for an honest video.
My ultimate decision not to purchase the C8 was based on reading all the posts on a C8 Forum where owners had problems with the transmission.
It all depends how u take care of the car and how u drive it its a naturally aspirated v8 its not a engine like others
You make a very compelling case against ever buying a Corvette of any Chevy to be honest.
You taught me about the c7 trans issue dealing with the v4 cylinder deactivation. Since you told us about this , I made Chevy triple flush my transmission with the new fluid and haven’t drive it in true automatic since . It’s been rock solid ! I feel like you saved me from a potential issue . Thank you !
So it’s bad to drive in v4 mode?
My new 97 C5 had lots of problems. I swore off Corvettes and American cars until I saw the introduction of the C8 in 2019. My 2020 C8 coupe has been great for 11,000+ miles.
U got a 2020 c8?
I currently drive a 2013 C6 which has been and still is a great car. I put my name on a waiting list for a C8 last year. When it came time to order my C8 I cancelled after reading so many issues with the transmission. You may feel the C8 is a trouble free car but when you need to replace a transmission, that is not a trouble free car. The most disturbing part is that customers had to wait months for parts. The DOD also has issues with higher miles. I’ll keep my LS3 with my 6 speed Auto.
I think this is absurd. As a company of GM and Chevrollet, build a car with components so weak and without reliability? IMOSSIBLE ANY North American car compete with Italians and Japanese in reliability then. I wanted to cut the culture of just buy or like European and Japanese cars, but I've seen it will be difficult with such ridicules. I was almost buying this car if it wasn't to hear that this corvette is one more that is no good.
To be honest, I was never interested in Corvette, I always found a meaningless and out -of -context car, I just went to discover the story and enjoy the car, in this C8 version, and this because of the Forza 5 where I first saw the car, And I found that it is one of the only super sports possible for me to buy, but unfortunately I saw that this car has only appearance.
North American sandpaper, next to Camaro that only has weight and size. Let's go back to dating an F40 or La Ferrari or Carrera GT 2003 apparently .... and forever ... because there is nothing in the same level of quality manufactured on American soil
This shows how awesome is corvette , even after facing this many issue across multiple corvettes , You still end up getting Corvettes.
I'm confused! Your C8 had the transmission replaced only after 18K miles (aside from the early reset), rear view camera was replaced, couple of bent wheels had to be replaced, and yet you call its reliability "absolutely phenomenal"🤔🤨🙄
Yeah.. the c7 zo6s are very known for the wheels bending or cracking too. I replaced mine but everybody says it’s what those wheels are made of and that it will happen eventually no matter how easy you are on the car lol you’d think they would have learned from that and put better rims on these cars
Sorry but I disagree with your statement that the C8 has been great in reliability. Great means no issues. You have had some small issues and a new transmission is a major issue,
I’ve had my C8 for three months, already broke a rim, but I bought a CPO so everything is covered, and mine has already had its tranny replaced under warranty prior to my purchase about 5k before my purchase.
Love the thing.
My c5 is a workhorse and never has issues UNLESS I DON’T drive it, then it gets moody electronically.
My 2021 c8.3LT Air conditioning compressor had to be replaced 2X. Also the convertible top springs snapped. Been waiting on parts for months. Car currently has 8k miles. But I love it.
Often people think that if a car is low miles, it should be safe and if it looks good is was cared for. This does not mean it was driven gently. I know people who buy corvettes mostly to track them. They put low miles on them, but when those miles are track use, it means high wear. Anytime a car is track pack featured, I would be careful and consider if the low miles are track miles. A few thousand track miles can be worse than tens of thousands of highway miles.
I had purchased one of the first 2014 corvettes delivered to California = no problems during ownership. I had purchased a new 2017 corvette Grande Sport and again one of the first delivered to California = no problems during ownership. Again I purchased a new 2020 C8 and again was one of the first delivered to California, Vin number was about 610 = no warranty problems. Again I purchased a new 2022 C8 but it rolled over to a new 2023 because Chevy stopped early production deadline of April 22 for the 2022. 15 months after placing my order I received my 2023 corvette just this past September. And my dealership was able to lock in the 2022 price and I did not have to pay the $2,500 price increase for my 2023 corvette and there are no problems so far. After all it is a Chevy. The 2014 and 2017 corvettes were purchased way below , MRSP from Kerbeck Corvette. The 2020 and 2023 were purchased at Kerbeck/Ceoccia corvette at MSRP and not a penny over.
Wonderful gm warranty makes the ownership experience wonderful as long as you dont modify the corvette affecting corvette engineering expectations . Ive daily driven 4 corvettes over a quarter of a million miles and I do this with corvettes as they have a 300k validation process before delivering the first new generation car and are backed by one of the best warranties in the industry.
I've hammered the shit out off my 2016 Challenger Hellcat at Rallys, track events, 1/2 mile Attack, 1 mile Texas mile. 64k miles so far ZERO issues. Travels well. Just great all around car. now my C3 Corvette has been pretty reliable expect if you want to use the lights, door locks, brakes etc...hahaha but shes an old gal with 83k miles on her.
I had my heart set out on one but this video definitely killed it for me. Thank you though.
Happens to the best of them. Im just glad im not dealing with Ferrari maintenance and costs
You can buy a Ferrari with the maintenance and cost of a faulty built corvette. The time and inconvenience. Time is money.
Corvette 2020 no issues. 2023 corvette no issues.
Someone drove their C7 Z06 from Dallas to SoCal in 20 hours, and then he drove it to Laguna Seca and back to Dallas in a span of 3 days.
Mike, great video. I have a 2018 Z06 M7, just over 8K miles on it. No issues at all so far, loving it. Thanks for all your work!
That’s only 8 k miles . It’s only speak of after driven 50k miles or more .
The last 3 vehicles I have owned are Acuras. None ever went in for warranty work. On my last Corvette, a C5, we did heads and cam at 4000 miles. The engine failed, one of the pistons broke apart. We replaced the engine with a custom made C5R-427, we replaced everything under the hood except the alternator; we also replaced the tranny, rear-end, suspension, brakes, wheels, and tires. We ran it hard at the track. The only thing that failed was the alternator. I am on the list for a Z06 but quit candidly I fear for the long term viability of the car.
C6 LS3 Corvette has the good reputation. I might pass on the C8 for the older LS3 model.
My Corvette was an overall wonderful experience. 58,000 miles and never failed me.
C8?
@@Nardo-RS5 c7
@@DailyElectrician what do u think i want to get the c8 so bad
@@Nardo-RS5 think of the c8? hopefully placing my order tomorrow
Not surprised about the transmission issues. All the manufacturers using DCT's are having issues with them. They're great for racing but suffer during stop and go traffic. However, I wish you the best of luck in your corvette journey.
Except Porsche. PDK is tough as they come. I’ve had 3.
I traded my 2019 ZO6 with Lexus LC 500 and found out what quality built means both inside and out .For sure it is not as fast or a track sports car but when you drive it you feel some how very especial having said that perhaps you should do the same with CAPITAIN LEMON after transmission TRANSPLANT !!🤣
Yeah, Lexus wins hands down in terms of reliability and build quality. Best GT coupe style car out there.
I don’t doubt it . That’s why they hold their value more then any other car manufacturers out there .
Two things come to mind here. 1:Don’t buy used corvettes. 2: learn how to drive a high powered sports car in a way that doesn’t ruin the drivetrain. The more I listen to you the more I’m convinced “it’s not the car”!
Its not the car its the owner it all depends on how u take care of it and how u drive it man im not ultra rich but i want this car so bad
I love vettes I had a 89, broke down ever time I drove it haha and an 04 low mileage c5 just recently sold it my slave cylinder went . I love them but boy are they temperamental. I may go late model c4 next time around. Currently driving a Lexus again and they just run and run.
Good video luckily I haven't had any problems at all all I'm at 15000
It may be a blessing you aren’t on the short list for the C8 Z06. It’s high rev large displacement high horsepower flat plane crank is poison to the dual clutch DSG transaxle its mated to. Torque converter automatics or manual trans handled power more reliably, so when compared to previous gen Corvettes, I think it is advisable to expect the C8 Z06 to be less reliable in that area. Then there’s the matter of the 5.5L flat plane. Using Fords experience as a guide, I’d say expect oil consumption to be an issue. It’s a phenomenal car and I’d buy one in a heartbeat if I could get one at MSRP. I’m just saying it won’t likely be the most reliable Corvette ever built.
Thanks God i havent had any issues with my c8
I can tolerate any issues as long as the dealer network has the parts to fix it. Definitely shop for a extended warranty and drive the hell out of your Corvette.
C8 Is a great car for about 15,000 miles 🤣🤣🤣
Let's cut to the chase - if you had to replace the C8 transmission at 18,000 miles (which goes along with all of the other accounts of transmission issues for the 2020-2023s), the C8 doesn't have good reliability, much less "phenomenal" reliability (and that's without taking into account other past issues C8s have been known to have). This video and other easy research is helping to convince me to not buy a 2024. I honestly don't know how you can be so into GM and Chevy products to be honest given their poor reliability across the board. I just think back to my one GM experience (2016 GMC Yukon Denali) - it had the infamous transmission shudder and hard shifting (the defective A8 tranny that is everywhere), screen flicker, a panel nearly fall off in the wind, etc. Got rid of it after about a year.
I've owned a lot of high performance cars They all have some kind of issue That's just the way it is
Remember the concrete whatever doesn’t relate to reliability but wow! Your lucky you didn’t flip that car! Lack of parts and time it took could be considered an issue however
If you have the money, buy it , we only leave ones
DCT's in street use have had a variety of issues across makes and brands. Even the Volkswagen group who were early adopters have not phased out regular automatics entirely. Ford was in a class action lawsuit over one of theirs. Will be interesting to see what Chevy and TREMEC learn and develop as more and more users and miles are put on these cars.
Sorry to hear your story but I also own 2c7 have 40k mile and c8 with zero problem,(did you drive the car properly ? )
That's awesome I also bought a lot of tickets for that chip Miller. I'm gonna raffle mine off also when I get here in October.
Heck yeah man, but not before I come drive it right 😊
Every Corvette I've ever owned had issues. EVERY ONE. I've had C2,3,4,5,7's. My current C7 Grand Sport trans issues and rear axle. My C5 clutch issues (Hydraulic and clutch surface issues), My C3 paint peeling and posi rear , C4 intake manifold leaks I can go on and on. , If I have an emergency I take the Toyota
5:52 this explained all your problems you like to race them and they are not made for racing from the factory
My 2020 C8 Z51 Corvette has been reliable so far and I have 15,600 miles on it since I only take it out on the weekends.
Thank you everyone talking about transmission issues but im pretty sure it all depends on how the owner take care of the car and how he drive it
What a big GM supporter even after having major transmission issue. Not sure if he is in his senses to say c8 is phenomenal. I wanted to buy but now I’m hesitant.
A lot of the corvettes today are driven by retired people like me.I only drive the car on Sundays and in the summer.I do not drive it November=March, so there are unmolested corvettes out there.I see the new C-8s out there with 3 owners already and maybe 5-6k miles on them?????I fear that people buy this car and run the piss out of it them get rid of it before the transmission gos out.An lets face it I am afraid to buy a used C-8 used.I cant get a new one because they are not taken any orders.I think the days of going to the dealers and picking out one on the lot are long gone. All the things that made life fun are gone.Every thing is run by greedy companies that cheat people with bad products.
Let’s check in on corvette world falling prices?
My HTC spring cable snapped and been waiting for warranty repair for a month. Other than that no issues.
Heck yeah they are!
I fixed my 2002 z06 abs and traction control myself for less than 100 dollaars
My 14 C7 has been reliable as heck, not one issue! I have heard there are issues with the C8..
Sounds like you have had some bad luck brother. Thanks for detailing things for us. I have had a C4, multiple C5s and a C7 that were great. The problems I have had with the C8 have been limited to the leaking reservoir cap of the front lift. Have 10,000 miles on my 2020 HTC and I love the car. I also drive in manual mode, no use of launch control and the trans is flawless.
My 2021 c8 HTC became bent/ tweaked and is being replaced. I was slowing down from 15mph to a red light while closing the HTC and rolled over a slight bump. My advice would be to NEVER open or close the hard top while moving. It is being covered by the warranty but it isn't worth the hassle (i didnt mention the bump to them). Especially if its out of warranty. This happened Sept. of 2022
Wow, that’s crazy. Thank you for sharing this information. 👍😊
Your and my definition of "reliable" are universes apart.
Thankfully the C8 is under warranty.
Same happened to me, $400 for a new computer… they only last 8-10 years
NEVER get a first model-year car. That's all I have to say. But yes, I know, as a RUclipsr that's hard to stick to.
Yeah, being a RUclipsr does make that not too possible. 👍😊
The C8 DCT has an unacceptably higher failure rate.
Mike, I was wondering if your C7 was an automatic an would go into eco mode. I never run my 19 C7 ZO6, M7 in eco mode. I have also tracked it in Texas heat and it never went into limp mode. They had the issues fixed by then. I heard that about the C5’s, and the abs/tc are not available. I suppose all the new technology always causes problems.
Z mode doesn't deactivate cylinders.
Let's be honest...Chevrolet is not known for reliability and Corvette is no exception. That said I still love my ZRI, but it's had more issues than my last 3 Toyotas put together.
Mike, with all due respect you have to be one of the biggest Corvette fanboys ever. With the luck you have had i would have changed brands by now.Ive had a few Corvettes. All have had problems.I have a 93 40th anniversary convertible right now.Only has a little over 22k for mileage and has had multiple problems.Couple years back i bought a new Hellcat.Cars a beast and its a manual.I dont see myself wasting money in the future on a new C8.Reliability is much worse than average.Fortunately ive never had more money than brains.Your videos are great.Sorry for all the bad luck.
I just got your video today 10-11-2022 but the Sweepstakes ended 11 days ago. Just trying to figure out why I got the video so late.
I would have made a donation but I am a 11 days late and $25 short LOL
Guess I’ll wait for the final edition c8 since the early ones seem to be junk.
I bet it was just sensors if it was warantied!
Hey Mike, good vlog
It's reliable. ? Is can you trust your dealership mechanic. I've owed C6 C7 and now C8. My c6 dealership mechanic took me for a ride. Traded in for new C7 went back to a different dealership with same ownership. Huh it happened again just to make warranty $$$. So beware corvette owners. Get to know your service advisor and mechanic.
GM reliability has been terrible for so long, especially electronics wise… having said that I don’t buy a Corvette for reliability I buy it to enjoy the experience.
C5 224,000 MILES, NO problems, sold to another club member. C6 GS 106,000 miles no problem
I love the look of the C8 but after reading posts of transmission issues, I cannot drop 100k on a car with that kind of issue in the back of my mind.
I'm with you. It's absurd to think of spending that on something known to have such significant issues. GM reliablity is a joke.
I see a Dark Horse in your garage...!!!
It feels like you are sugar coating the C8 issues. I think you are ignoring that they are flawed this time around.
Typical GM reliability!
5% is a shame. Japanese companies try their best to get close to Six-Sigma.
I ordered a 2015 manual 7 I have 53000 miles on it 0 problems so you have problems that c8 transmission is not going to last the life of the car which is 150000 miles better luck to you
U literally spoke about all the other corvettes more than the c8 it self🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️
Have you ever tracked it???
did you have a problem with GM techs racing it ROFL.
Smashed.....
How the hell can you excuse GM with having an estimated 3 to 5,000 C8s having had transmission problems out of roughly 75,000. That is shit quality.
Why does your video jump around while your talking?
why do you keep getting an unreliable car?
All sports cars are known for high performance and low reliability, with the exception of Japanese cars. Japanese cars don't make it on the list of Porsches and Corvettes.
I’m not buying a corvette anymore
Did you buy an extended warranty for your C8?
Yea but Trans problems already and still new that should not happen!
Did you buy an extended warranty on your C8?
I did not.
That low of miles and having the trans replaced is crazy. Poor quality control by GM👎🏻
🤬🤯 every car has issues but u seem to have had enough of them
This video literally made me not want a corvette
Buy a Hellcat. It’s Indescribable and Bad Ass.
