After being in the house for a week straight due to a bad flu. It was nice to be outside again to breathe some fresh air. We decided to hit up an easy, fun beginner trail in Orange County called Trabuco Creek road. Growing up I've always know this area as the Holy Jim trail due to the hiking trail that leads to a waterfall. Normally this trail is open but it's usually closed due to fire and rain. Unfortunately it was closed at the halfway point so we did what we can in the area and just have fun being outside again.

hi mike, do you need a pass to park off the trail like that to hike the trail you went on? congrats on the baby btw.
No pass needed
Last time I went through and the gates were open was about 3 months ago
Can a AWD SUV make it through the Trabuco canyon?
Nice! It's potholes galore there whenever it rains. City workers actually have to come in for repairs every time, but it's a nice little drive. As far as the gates, despite being Cleveland National Park, there are residents that live inside those gates and they're the ones who unlock and lock it back up whenever they go in and out. I believe that they may be descendants of the original people who settled in the Trabuco Hills way back then. Fun fact about this national forest is that it was created because of them as original settlers in the area. I live just at the bottom of the hill and you could've shared that flu you got going on. 😂
I knew there were residents living there...I've hike that trail many times before to Holy Jim waterfall but I didn't know the history of the people there. That's pretty cool...yea man, it was a nasty flu...glad im back 100 percent.
I am going to have to try this trail. I want to do Santiago Peak but was always unsure if a 2WD Frontier could make it up without issues?
should be fine
@@Michael_Tran Thanks for the reply. Are there any groups that run maple springs rd/Santiago peak on a somewhat regular basis? I would love to tag along since I am newer at this. I have looked all over meetup and can't find anything.
Great video! I am a beginner off roader and wanted to ask after you arrive at the Holy Jim trail do you return the same way you came in? Some roads appeared a bit narrow for two cars. Thank you.
Yea it's a in and out trail..it's pretty wide not too narrow
Wow, thanks for posting this. Great video !
No problem.
bro you made this place amazing.. the place was scenic on a drone shot..
It's definitely greener than normal but the amount of water was definitely unexpected. I really thought it wasn't going to be that much water until I've seen it...the drone shot do make this place looks amazing.
Those gates haven’t been open in a very long time. I can’t remember last time you could go back in there. Cool place though. I live not to far from there
I was there 2 years ago and that was the only time I've seen it open beside years ago before all the fires up there. I've been up on that trail for many years
@@Michael_Tran yes correct before the fires is when I remember it open. 👍🏻
I’ll see you one day on these trails! I swear every time I don’t go to the trail you hit it the next video 😂
It's unfortunate that really stupid people take cans of spray paint to places like that little swimming spot and destroy things.
I agree...I don't understand the mindset behind tagging anything let alone nature.
I just started watching ur videos and this whole time i thought ur truck was a 2wd mainly because i started watching some videos of u doing trails in 2wd lol. I just got a truck not to long ago but its a 2wd so im kinda scared to go off road kz idk what is too hard to do and what not.
This trail is so easy you don't need a 4x4 for.
@@Michael_Tran okay. In reality how much do you need 4x4??
@@baggedej6 I would say that most green sticker trails (fire road) can be done in 2wd. If you have a lift and AT tires it will be even better
@@Michael_Tran amazing brother thank you i have a lifted titan so i think ima take the jump lol thank you very much!
What psi should I run when I go off-roading on a beginner trail ?
Normally I air down around 20 psi or 15 psi if it's super sandy
I got bigger tires but stock rims on 2024 trd Tacoma . Is it advisable to air down ? I’ve heard it’s not a good idea with stock rims ?
@@chatanuga3022 Don't need it for this trail.
I got a 22 off road on stock suspension I should be good here right?
Just starting this whole off roading any other trails like this
You should be fine...we've taken a Scion XB there once haha.
You should be fine I saw a Honda Accord there 🤣
I like easy!
Get your sleep now while you can.
Yea that flu made me loose a lot of sleep but glad im back to 100 percent now.
@@Michael_Tran no, I mean in three months sleep will be a premium item. Congratulations!
Have actually never driven Holy Jim. Too bad it does not connect up with North Main Divide; that would make for some nice connections between the East and West side of the mountains.
I remember years ago someone there told me it used to connect but due to fires and erosion they no longer want to maintain it so they closed it down permanently. you can kinda see a path now but it's probably so overgrown. but it would've been fun
@@Michael_Tran ah, that's too bad. Well I hope they at least re-open Indian Truck> North Main Divide > Maple Springs and soon. At least there's that East > West connector crossing over Santiago Peak.
Can a ford maverick hybrid 2wd go up there?
What PSI do you air down to?
Normally around 20 psi...lower if its sandy
Thanks for the quick response. Congrats on your upcoming parenthood.
Where you able to make it to Holy Jim Falls?
Unfortunately no...the gate was closed. You could hike but it's way longer
