No need to read all the comments, I'll summarize
"He's wearing a carhartt jacket." & "This movie is shot in forest like most fan films because it's a cheap set."
You're welcome.
I'm not surprised that a Force wielder as petulant and bratty as the one portrayed here would get smacked down. It is amazing she wasn't killed before this film ever took place.
that high piano keynote when the sith appears momentarily was fantastic
It's really cool that even a it's long time ago and in a galaxy far away Carhart was there.
Very well done, acting, background music, cinematography one of the best of the fanflics
Thank you!
Great use of the sound effects/music when she’s being followed, the synchronisation of the footsteps with the notes really creates a great atmosphere
(it was our first time ever doing anything like that, so the compliment is much appreciated)
I really loved the location you selected. It has a peaceful and beautiful feel to it. Also the music added to the tension and suspense in a way that was effective and kind of subtle. The lightsaber battle reminded me of old school samurai sword fights - no wasted motion and being careful when to engage and not to. Some lightsaber battles (both in fan and 'professional' films) make it clear that the participants don't think the lightsaber is very dangerous (i.e way to many flashy moves).
Thank you very much! Yes, I don't think it was intentional, but as we were cutting it, we realized the fight looked a little more like a Samurai battle (especially once we added the score). Thanks for your comment!
No matter what happens, that guy's hair is always on point
Star Wars fan films are so awesome. Especially the fan film Skywalker’s apprentice. I definitely want to see more of these fan films. I’m a huge Star Wars fan
Music seemed out of place. Loved the combat and characters. Special effects were really good.
Thanks, we specifically went for music that was original and unique. Seems to work for some, not so much for others.
Really Awesome. Congratulations on such a great short film!
I have to applaud the music for the most part it sounded like some simple notes but the way you used them was great having the piano ringing in moments of suspense was ingenious 👏👏
That Guy Over There Thank you!! We tried to do a lot with very little.
Also, if you haven't had a chance to check it out, we do have a behind-the-scenes look at the score: ruclips.net/video/4E-GJ9ipgBs/видео.html
Aside from the lack of star wars-like music in-favor of, an indie, aesthetic, atmospheric, nature-orientened soundtrack, THIS was quite good.
We specifically went in a different direction with the music (which we knew was risky), but we wanted a fully-original score. And we knew if we mimicked Williams we'd be setting ourselves up for disaster. Thanks for the kind words!
@@FrankRomanoVideos i think that was great. It gives the story another feel, something new. But it still looks like star wars. Great job
@@leehernandez2022 Thank you!
beautiful work....looked kinda real and for a short film it was put together nicely.... two thumbs up
Thank you!
I just love fan films like this.
Nice job.
Excellent work. As a fellow filmmaker, I especially liked the very original thought behind the music design. While everything else was good, the piano hits to introduce the threat and the overall tone of the music made this fan film stand out to me.
Thank you for saying that. We knew our approach to the score was a big risk, but potentially the biggest payoff. Our feeling was that unless you have John Williams, trying to mimic him is setting yourself up for failure. So we thought, given the obvious smaller scale of our movie, a completely different approach to the score was the smartest move. So it means a lot to hear positive feedback. Thanks again!
Also, if you haven't had time to check it out yet, we do have a behind-the-scenes look at the score: ruclips.net/video/4E-GJ9ipgBs/видео.html
Thanks!
I'm inspired. The music and cinematography really sell this, gives me such a different vibe than the usual Star Wars fan film does. fantastic work. Hope you'll make more!
Thanks man! We were intentionally going somewhere different with it. Glad it worked for you.
@@FrankRomanoVideos Any time! Out of curiosity, how did you achieve the lightsaber effects? A lot of fan films I see have the blades almost floating at the hilts, but the lightsabers here look very solid. Any pointers/programs I should be on the lookout for? Currently in the process of writing my own SW short.
Felix Mackle thanks man, I spent countless hours key-framing to make sure the blades were locked. I used Video Copilot’s Saber plug in for all the blades, which makes it super easy. If you’re interested, I’d be happy to Zoom chat with you and share my screen. I can open up the old project and show you how I achieved some of the effects.
It looks really good, guys. Well done. Seriously.
Thanks! Could not have done it without our amazing fight choreographers though! Thank you for your hard work :)
Thank you! You had A LOT to do with that. You guys all made us look good, better than what we thought possible! ;)
Thank you! Sorry it took so long. Hadn't really considered how long the sound mixing and each of the effects shots would take. Couldn't have done it without all your hard work as well. Hope to collaborate again in the future.
I think it funny how the sith gets the Jedi to the ground and then she’s like oh I’m just gonna let her get her lightsaber
Yaaaawn...yet another thrilling “walk through the woods” fan film. As underwhelming as it gets. It’s two steps down from eating dry saltines.
ok, you do it then
Nicely done!!! Great score too!!!
If I had a dollar for everytime I've seen a Star Wars fan film take place in a forest...
If I had a dollar for every time I've seen a Star Wars fan film take place in a forest, I'd have enough to afford to not do it in a forest ;)
Well put. I actually enjoyed the film.
Haha I know. I was thinking about that as we were making it. If I were to ever make a sequel, I'd love to build a cockpit and have the two leads stumble on a ship they use to escape the planet. Anything but more forest, haha.
Another thing while reading these comments. Stop defending your product. If you want to make movies you are going to have to accept the reception, not battle people in yotube comments. Try not making a bad star wars movie, I know how it is SW is amazing such a great universe but you might have a great mind as well to come up with something that actually goes somewhere. This is very bad and if you watch your film then compare it to even the worst SW movie made you will realize how bad it is. I know this sounds like bashing but seriously think about something original rather then bad actors in a forest with light sabers.
I praise the fact that they completed a project they wanted to. Whether it was original or not doesn't matter to me. The fact that they gained experience while making this is enough for a polite clap. You won't get to make your best films without making something "bad". It's apart of the creative process that these guys were aware of and I don't mind them defending something that probably took months to make.
Running with a lit lightsaber is worse than running with scissors right? I mean who ever taught her to fight should have taught her basic safety 101.
Did anyone else see the ladybug? It was on that Dark Jedi's hood after she pulled it off you couldn't miss it.
Nice job excellent quality
Thank you!
the lady bug coming out of the hood at 10:45, lol
carhart makes great stuff, even in other galaxies
haha! First to notice! Glad you caught that. We joked about that on set. I was originally planning to remove the patch, but didn't get around to it. We just loved the look of that jacket on him. Wondered when someone would notice it was a Carhart jacket. Good eye!
I noticed that also. Actually looked legit.
Excellent fan film!
I enjoyed the score to this film. Sounded more original than other fan film scores.
Thank you! We spent a lot of time on an original score. You can learn more about it here: ruclips.net/video/4E-GJ9ipgBs/видео.html
@@FrankRomanoVideos I just watched it and it was kool. It shows the hard work (and fun) that went into the film as a whole. The originality is awesome. Keeps you from the wrath of the Mouse. LOL!
@@algorhythm83 Thanks! Yeah, the score was definitely the most fun we had working on the project. We met with Jim early on and developed leitmotifs before we did the spotting session. Jim produced the whole score in MIDI first, so we could easily make changes, then we replaced all the MIDI with real instruments once we had the score locked. The whole process was a blast. Obviously we had limited resources (you can tell from the video we were recording in a basement), but I think it came out great despite our limitations.
@@FrankRomanoVideos Limitations? It looked like you had a Mac and real instruments. As well as people who can read notes. I know a guy who did a score with just a Mac, keyboard, and drum machine. In his garage. And he could not read notes. Creativeness comes out of limitations.
@@algorhythm83 Haha, well yeah, you're right. I guess by "limitations," I mean we didn't have a full orchestra.
Oh, I get it. That was her twin sister. Awesome fan film. good job to the cast and crew.
Awesome
Pretty damn good
Thanks!
What was that meant to be about? Who's vengeance? Why didn't the Sith kill the woman when she was helpless on the ground?
Avengers 24 Hi, I’m the writer and co-director. I wrote it to be ambiguous, so we’re made to understand that these two women have a past, but we don’t know exactly what that past is (my producer gave me the story, but I just wanted to hint at it). We know Zaalia (our hero), hitched a ride to this part of the galaxy on false pretenses (which Kal, the pilot, points out). Beyond that, it’s left up to our imagination. I wanted to hint at the idea that Zaalia is trying to turn the villain (Si’Nestra) back to the light, but I don’t say it explicitly. It’s likely we’re too vague in the edit (we ended up cutting many lines). In the end, it’s a story more about Zaalia’s stubbornness than it is about her past. Thanks for commenting!
where in the movie were we told their names? That detail might have been important.
I don't know that their names are important to the story. I use them when describing the story, but I could easily just refer to them as the hero, the villain, and the sidekick and you still know everything you need. Our original cut had more dialogue, which included their names, but in the final edit we cut any line that wasn't absolutely necessary.
the Cinematography was amazing
Thank you for saying that. We used an anamorphic adapter to achieve a true anamorphic look. The adapter was very heavy, and ended up breaking the 40mm taking lens (it was designed for a much heftier taking lens). The adapter also had it's own focus ring. So, in order to rack focus, we needed to rotate two rings simultaneously. On top of all that, we shot on a 5D Mark III, so we needed an external monitor to stretch the image back out. This made the overall rig very heavy and more difficult to work with. Even the most basic shots were a challenge. We're happy the footage is passable, let alone amazing. Appreciate the kind words.
thank you for those details! what was thze budget for this film?
We calculated the budget at around $3600. But about half of that was costs associated with the score. I'm sure if you factor in catering and other small ancillary expenses, we might be closer to $4000 total. Keep in mind that most everyone involved wasn't paid. It was just a passion project. And we utilized owned / borrowed equipment. If we didn't already own camera gear, it would have cost a lot more to produce.
great job $4000 is a pretty good budget, i wish you had more views, i'll be sure to share this around
Thank you! Much appreciated.
Don't understand why this doesn't have more views. This was one of the best fan films I've seen. Good twists and suspension. Keep it up.
Thank you! Means a lot to hear that.
Frank Romano of course. You actually had good acting. I love the classic star wars wipe transition from scene to scene. Kept me interested. Disney needs to get you to do a live action TV series of star wars. Make a sequel!
Sorry you feel that way. We think the music is one of the highlights.
Literally my only complaint about this is that the Jedi's Lightsaber blade seems shorter than I like them. When I think of a Lightsaber blade, I think of something that's about the length of a Samurai Katana, or a European Longsword. Hers is making me think more of a Roman Gladius, whose blade is only about two to two and a half feet long.
Well done! :)
This fan film reminds me of the old samurai movies. Great pacing and original music worthy of Star Wars!
Thank you for saying that!
Some of the shots made me think of The Hidden Fortress which is the movie Star Wars is based on. If I remember right it was by Kurosawa. Most good samurai movies were his, so I guess its a safe bet. Ha!
Interesting.
best dialogs (i mean actors play) in all SW fun films
Both ladies are stunningly pretty
the fighting when it started impressed me, how it seemed the combatents were actually calculating their moves. rather then trying to he flashy.
Thanks for saying that. We spent a lot of time trying to make sure that read properly; with a culmination of the choreography itself, the performances, and deliberately-placed ADR.
Frank Romano I am always a fan of fantasy films that use realistic fighting rather then flashy spinning and twirling. it gives it a more emersive feel, as if the characters actually fear for their lives.
I have to say you guys did an amazing job.
Frank Romano I do hope to see a sequel
Thank you!
great music
Thanks, our composer is a super-talented guy who worked with very limited resources. You can see behind the scenes on the music here: ruclips.net/video/4E-GJ9ipgBs/видео.html
Very 'lounge' music for a light sabre duel...
The light saber duell is solid, I think it would be better though to speed it up a little bit. The movement seems kinda slow for force sensitives. Just speeding up the video material would make it better I think.
Thanks! Glad you liked it. The movement is slower (more OT speed), but speeding it up in post doesn't help. They would have actually had to have performed it faster. Doing a time-ramp in post ends up looking very silly.
Love this! Acting way surpasses any other fan film I've seen. Music was also something else, the piano key tapping reminded me of the first trailer of episode 7 for Rey's Intro
Very nice of you to say. We had fun blocking the performances.
NONONONONONO This did not surpass every single fan film, go check out the darth maul fan films, they are awesome!
Cameron Coleman I saw the Darth Maul Apprentice, and it was brilliant! I just think the acting was better in this, I'd say the choreography was the strongest aspect of that film.
You must have seen a lot of rubbish fan films if you think this is good. No real story and a Sith that lets a Jedi live.
Avengers 24 no need to be a dick. This is very well made, and as I said I thought the acting was some of the best
Great fan film, saber work was awesome. it looks like you guys put a lot of time, and thought into it......Loved it, Keep it up.....Thanks
Thank you!
Very nice
Although perhaps a little overbearing, the music was by far the best part of this film. Any RUclips upload of it?
Thanks! That's honestly my favorite thing about it. We don't have a RUclips upload of the soundtrack, but my composer did release it as an album: jimgalvin.bandcamp.com/album/vengeance-in-the-outer-rim-original-soundtrack
Well done
She pulls back her hood to reveal her true identity: a feminist
This is my most favorite thing anyone has said about me ever :D
I knew I had to say it as soon as I sat the blue hair. Btw tho, you guys did gud on your saber work.
Thank you!!
I Am The Nine
Would like to see the cosmic feminist and the beautiful red rematch....
I hear yo Joe. Our sisters are strong. I hope we are strong enough to keep up with them.
Until there are no more battles. Until there is balance.
I didn't realize they had Carhartt jackets a long time ago in a galaxy far far away
Nice locations
Nice Story, nice characters, nice effects, bad combat ! 7/10
Apart from having no context & no story line, it was pretty good...
Amazingly well made.
Thank you so much!
Having seen many Fanfilms, i think this one looks great, sounds great but tells a very standard story. Standard forest, standard force users, standard ending. It surely was fun and hard work to make, but ... it's just another standard fanfilm
I love this forest. Different and nicely lit. Good job guys
Thank you!
07:25 - if the Sith girl really wanted to kill the Jedi girl, this is the moment in which she had to, since the Jedi was defenceless. To let her go here and then try again just a few seconds later, makes no sense for the storyline.
Music was a bit weird. Good mucisc but I guess it just didn't quite fit in the places it was used.
the Aurebesh reads:

apparently the SWU has social media lol
Haha, yeah. It's actually just Trump tweets scrolling through.
Is. There classes for aura eesh?
So who was the sith that followed her/shot her down? Her sister? Why didn’t she finish her off? Couldn’t do it because it’s her sis and there’s still love for her? Thus NEEDS a part two.
Typo.. THIS needs a sequel
Was my man wearing a Carhartt?
They make good coats, and have since a long, long time ago. ;)
Why did she decide not to kill her? What was the point of the fight? Thank you!
I don't know about running with a lightsaber, sounds like a little worse than what could happen while running with scissors,
on first seeing the Sith's ship I thought, _flying an X-wing?!_ then the landing pylons unfolded.
This film is absolutely amazing. Please, please tell me it's getting a sequel.
Thank you! We'd love a sequel too. Just have to wait and see!
I vote for a sequel ;)
Me too ;)
Really enjoyed this little fan film, But if i could suggest anything, During the fight scenes speed up the motion of the swings, The lady with the green saber was super slow, You could see this wasn't supposed to be flashy but more strategic but it was so slow between its motion.
It’s was cute like a slow motion lightsaber battle but I honestly liked it
This is the coolest thing I have ever seen.
You should watch Darth Maul Apprentice. It's far better than this.
Check out fan film named "rebel scum". Totally my favorite.
I just discovered this awesome Star Wars fan film, I really enjoyed it acting, special effects!👏 Are there any further adventures with these characters?
Thanks man! That's sweet to hear. No, there are no further adventures with these characters. In truth, this was really just a fun "Princess Party" advertisement expanded into a short film for fun. The actress who played the movie's villain (Kitty), ran a Princess Party company. She reached out to my company because she wanted a lightsaber fight between two female force wielders in order to promote her female 'Star Wars' characters for parties. I thought it would be fun to expand the fight into a short film. When my brother and I came on to the project, the choreography had already been worked out, and the two female characters already named and costumed. So, I had to build a story around the lead Jedi (Zaalia) starting from a kneeling position and then blocking an attack from behind (I guess the original idea was that she was meditating). Overnight I drafted the script you see here, where Zaalia awakens from a parachute landing after her transport ship was shot down by the Dark Jedi. I figured if she lost her lightsaber, that could be a good way to write to a scenario by which she starts in a compromised position, then blocks her opponent's attack in the knick of time. I created the character of the clueless transport pilot to both fill the audience in on the plot, and to also create an arc for the lead character (she starts the film stubborn, then ends by accepting help). I did all the effects work myself, which took about a year working on it here and there. I wish, in the end, I had spent longer than 24 hours on the script, but I never expected the project to be so intensive. Thanks for watching!
Not bad! If I may offer a suggestion, please look at the fighting styles of the Jedi and pick one of them to use. Obviously Ataru would be impractical but Soresu would be interesting! Keep up the good work!
How did he put his own arm in a sling?
The force.
…actually I have no idea.
My only suggestion. Put more speed on and force in to lightsaber attacks. Doesn't look like they are trying to hurt each otherwise....well done
Really well done!
she does not move or react like a jedi master. even without a lightsaber a jedi master would be a force to be reckoned with. (pun intended)
So is a Sith. Why did she not kill the Jedi when she was helpless on the ground?
At the beginning, she wanted to do it execution style. Savor it. At the end, Si'Nestra saw Zaalia's face and hesitated. What's holding her back; what's she thinking about? The viewer is invited to make their own perceptions about why she hesitated. If we made a sequel, we'd explore their history a little more.
There is a similar moment in the Last Jedi, with Kylo Ren.
Was this a Carhartt ad?
Except that hit on her right are would have severed it. lol
Glancing blow!
Ready for episode 2 guys !!! When is that ?
No episode 2, sorry :( This was just a one-off fun time.
No way. The Sith had the drop on the Jedi and disabled the guy's blaster. She had no reason to flee. Victory was hers! FINISH THEM!
The title should be 'No Vengeance On The Outer Rim' as the work stands.
Great Video! Follow Paint is Dead to see other great car wrap videos!
I guess everyone has an opinion so here’s mine. Poor acting and bad script. Seeing how their not ‘Major ‘ Jedi and Sith, the fight scene was ok to pretty good. However, I liked the special effects and sound effects a lot. Not sure how difficult they we’re to produce, but they seemed original. And last note, most Star Wars scripts weren’t the best. Ultimately, good job. When you have to come up with a concept, write, finance, produce, edit, film and ALL the other work that goes into a film, you have a much greater appreciation for film. Tho this didn’t rank high in my film, I do recognize that lots of hard work went in to this film and all contributors should be very proud of a film like this. Personally, I can only see them getting better and better. Congratulations on a job well done.
Thank you! Appreciate the comment.
This is fan fuckin tastic
'.' the fight's a little better when sped up, the highlight of the movie's the final moment between the two force users.
Despite the slow-motion lightsaber battle the film looks actually not bad. But you guys really need to work on that, at least try to speed-up the battle so it could look more realistic.
Thanks! Yeah, we opted for a fight closer in speed to the original trilogy. Plus, this was the first time both girls did anything like this. So they wouldn't have been able to go prequel-speed.
Not bad.
Big let down was his Carhartt jacket in the opening scene. Otherwise pretty good.
It was a pleasure to watch. May i suggest in order to help with your fight choreography grab some sword fight manuals. There are plenty to choose from. It may help give you some inspiration.
Is everyone of these fan films take place in the woods?
Typically, yeah. It's tough to acquire a budget for anything more substantial.
I guess so although it would not hurt to expand on environments a little.
Dear Cosmic Cake Productions,
Unfortunately, I am afraid I am telling you the truth, become I am deaf. Please, you need to fix the Closed Captioning means CC on your movie. I did not want to blame you. You are surprised me. May the force be with you. :)
Thank you for the feedback! We'll definitely see what we can do about this. Check back soon!
Who did the score? very well done, wouldve been great for a romantic comedy....just not for a star wars movie, just my opinion, it took me out of most of the moments, i was waiting to laugh or feel light hearted
The score is definitely unique. We wanted something different.
Good try music was so far off though
let me guess it's her dark side sister.
They might as well be married
It Was Good. The Music Was Not Star Wars At All Though. The Editing Was Pretty Good And The Acting Was 8/10. You Did Good. :)
Thanks! We intentionally went in a different direction with the music. You can either ape Williams (which never works) or do your own thing. We did the latter.
Nice. I Like It
Also Your In My Top Ten Fan Films. I Have Seen A Few Better One's But This Was Still Pretty Good.
Not the best choreography but the special effects where pretty good.
why are 90% of fan films all in the damn woods?
H.R. Romero Author it’s because there’s no budget to do anything else. Any other type of location would need to be constructed set or some form of digital set. Both are difficult when you have little-to-no budget. If you’re lucky enough to live near an exotic location, then you can likely avoid the woods. But we’re in the Midwest, so that was our best option.
Oh wtf? I thought it was Claire redfield im outta here yo
Looks like Carhartt finally made it big... Branching out to different galaxies and timelines 👏
Good efforts all around. I do think the forest scene before the gals meet up dragged a little too long. Very enjoyable.
