    Worked perfectly for me. Fans actually shut off about half the time. Fans are silent or barely audible now. I only use my old laptop for basic tasks so the noise reduction is absolutely worth the 2% hit to performance. Thank you for this solution.

    This worked for me once I set it to 90%. Thank you! @Ich liebe Dich Auch mentioned this in the first comment below as a response: Just above "maximum processor state" you have >> "System cooling Policy" set that to "passive" both the options!!! (This also decreased the fan noise.)

  • @iainw6292
    @iainw6292 4 года назад +3

    It worked, thanks! Silence at last. I had updated my BIOS just before trying this and that did some good but didn't cure it completely. Reducing the processor power use to 98% killed the conctant fan noise. So my £500 Yoga 500 is still going strong after 5 years (with a 1TB SSD upgrade for the original HDD). So I would disagree that Lenovo are 'thieves' - a quality bit of kit.

    This simply disables the processor from turboing, you can also do this with Throttlestop. If you have the issue that the CPU is at it's max clock speed all the time, enable Speed Shift in throttlestop - it allows the CPU to ramp down when there's no load.

  • @feleg0n

    THERE IS A SOLUTION!!!!!! The problem is that some of the power management options are missing from the Windows 10 install C940s come with, not allowing for the fans to be properly managed as there is no way to edit how much the processors are running at -> which directly affects the fan load.
    I phoned Microsoft tech support and there is a way to get them to walk us through a process to turn on advanced power management options which the preinstalled Windows 10 is lacking [they do not come with the option of PROCESSOR POWER MANAGEMENT in advanced power options.
    They told me this:
    1. Right click Start.
    2. Select Run.
    3. Type regedit and press enter to open the registry editor.
    4. Go to the folder: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power.
    5. On the right, check one of the keys called CsEnabled.
    6. Click on that key.
    7. Change the value from 1 to 0.
    8. Restart your computer.
    If you would rather do this with a technician over the phone call their tech support and they should help you out.
    Once this is done go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options > (create a new power plan "Balanced" and then once it is in the list click "change plan settings." Once in the new pop-up window click change advanced power settings and now you should have the option of PROCESSOR POWER MANAGEMENT (Yippee thanks Microsoft) and in the MAXIMUM PROCESSOR STATE setting this between 50% and 75% kills of the always-on fans and has little real world effect on multi tasking.
    Simply switch back to or create a "high performance" power plan where everything is maxed out for games, etc.
    I hope this helps.

      1. Go to Settings
      2. In the search bar, type in “Edit Power Plan”.
      3. A window entitled “Edit Plan Settings” should pop up.
      4. Click on “Change Advanced Power Settings”.
      5. Another tab “Power Options” should pop up.
      6. Click “Processor Power Management”.
      7. 2 options should show: “Minimum Processor State” and “Maximum Processor State”. Click “Maximum”.
      8. Change the “battery” and “plugged in” percentage to 98%. I changed mine to 90%.
      9. Click “Apply” and then”Ok” at the bottom.
      10. Wait a few minutes and restart your computer.
      Good luck!
      8.

    This helped me immediately. As soon as I applied the settings, I went to restart it and there was an update + restart option. I chose that. I'm not sure if changing the settings triggered an update + restart script to apply the settings or if that option was already there. My laptop is new and was fine until recently these last couple of weeks there were a lot of update + restarts I had to do and couldn't avoid. I figured everything was up to date for a while when they stopped popping up. My hunch? Windows or Lenovo put out glitchy update that broke our fans. They fixed this with the update after the glitchy one. Also, consciousness of Matcha Mochi, and this here video, too, especially, is a 4 dimensional shortcut to the above conclusions if you are me. f(x)=0m

    • @patpaof
      @patpaof  5 лет назад +1

      Bimb I’m actually no expert in this so take my advice as a grain of salt. The fan speeds up as it needs to cool down the cpu. More stress on the computer means the fans will run faster. So by throttling the fans, the high temps will not be fixed. If you are experiencing thermal issues then that requires a different solution to the one uploaded above

  • @SingleMalt2
    @SingleMalt2 4 года назад +3

    Please note that this isn't really a "fix." Its more of a temporary, jerry rigged solution that lowers your performance to prevent the fan from ramping up. Its also misleading to think that turning it to 99% means you only lose 1% - the reality is that it disables turbo boost, something of which adds a significant performance boost over clock speed.
    This fix is like Apple purposely decreasing the performance of old IPhones for the purpose of extending battery life. Yes, it works, but at a cost.

    • @patpaof
      @patpaof  4 года назад

      jeff k yeah , I think people come to this vid because they’d do anything to reduce or eliminate the fan noise. Reducing performance is an obvious variable in this solution and anyone would get that if they followed the steps. For the most part, the viewers of this video would rather noise elimination > extra bit of performance. Plus, we’re talking about Lenovo products that aren’t meant for gaming so there’s no real point in enabling over clocking. If they wanted the turbo boost, high performance laptops wouldn’t have this issue OR the consumer would understand that the fan requires to work harder to keep up with demands so there’s no going around it

      Just above "maximum processor state" you have >> "System cooling Policy" set that to "passive" both the options!!!

      @@ichliebedichauch3420 I tried both, my fan is still making noise. I opened it up and I can't see anything off with it, but the noise is definitely coming from the fan itself. I cleaned the fan just in case but it's still making that noise whenever I do anything (literally just opening internet gets it started).

      @@Joppe253 Set both to 90% and Both to Passive. This will completely solve the problem.

      Cosmic Clayton did it reduce the amount of noise the fan was making? Yes. So you’re literally just hating. Unless you can provide a fix the works for your daily consumer, cya 👋👋
