    I love the way he starts by saying "1934 guitar and you have to treat it gentle"................then procedes to do the exact opposite, wringing the living daylights out of it.

    Went to see Buddy Guy in Houston in the 90's on the Marquee it said opened by John Campbell. I thought "who in the hell is John Campbell?" Well, he fucking blew the roof off the theater and there was nothing left for Buddy. One of the best shows of my life. Broke my heart that he never came back.

      Went to see Buddy Guy in Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. John Campbell opened. It's the first time I've seen a support act get an encore. Buddy had a hard act to follow but he rose to the challenge. awesome night. Wish i had a time machine.

    • @markberry6574
      @markberry6574 6 лет назад +1

      ditto for me at Manchester, I'd not seen a support getting an encore before or since. It was massively aparent we were in the presence of greatness the moment he started playing. The best concert I have ever been to, I came out absolutekly buzzing.
      I went out next day and immediately bought his albums, and was devastated when I found out he'd died.

      Chiming in with the exact experience. Saw him in a small club opening for Buddy, and by the time he left the stage, no one cared if anyone else showed up. It sounds like heresy, but I swear it’s true. Best live act I ever saw. It. Was. Transcendent.

    Close your eyes and absorb this song......... this is Robert Johnson's blues taken to the next level. It's mystical, haunting - it almost seems like he knew his time on Earth was limited and he was going to make the most of it. Thanks for posting!

    I was raised in Belgium but have been living in the southern portuguese hills for the past 39 years. I am grateful to have heard (and kept) the 3 cd's John has released, they haven't left me. In early 1993, a friend phoned to tell me that John (and his band) would play live in Bruges, Belgium, sometime later that year. I shouted: I'll be there! I started looking for a flight. I hadn't booked it as yet, when she phoned me again to announce: "the concert is cancelled, John died a few days ago". That's how it goes. When I hear (I listened to it before) this part of his concert in Italy, watch his hands carress his 1934 dobro, listen to his voice, I think he knew his candle was fading out... Thank you John, ONE BELIEVER...

    Heb hem in 1992 gezien op het North Sea Jazzfestival en hij was onbekend maar wist de hele zaal op zijn kop te zetten. Toen ik in 1993 in de VS was, heb ik zijn 2e CD ook gekocht en tot de dag van vandaag staat hij in mijn top 5 van favoriete muzikanten. Ik hoop dat hij de hemel ook nog regelmatig op zijn kop zet met zijn fantastische muziek. Kickass indeed!
