Thanks! Can you say just a little about the setup of the wall panel? Android? iOS? Any unusual settings to keep the HA app showing? Screen savers? Lessons learned?
I have some videos lined up for this :) I will definitely say you pay for what you get. If personally still use this tablet setup with fully kiosk. It's been solid for me. There are a few sluggish amazon fire tablet issues but other than that it's good. If at the time I had some money I would have definitely opted for a more expensive samsung tablet and ran that with fully kiosk. Fully kiosk is a simple app and has a great HA integration. You can display dashboard, websites etc etc and have the screen automatically turn on based on motion and turn off. IOS would be quicker but it's too restricted to allow some of the cooler device controls. Again more on this soon :)
@@MarkWattTech this answer helped me a lot. I've been trying different kiosks and they are all VERY expensive but fully kiosk is very reasonable! A tip for you on a great cheap tablet: Lenovo tab p12. Less than half the cost of other tablets in its class. I've been testing it the last few days and it's fast. Love it!
Superb video, inormative, easy to understand and digest. Is it possible to send a video clip of the event from a camera along with the notification?....with an option to access a video live feed? It would be useful in determining whether activation was valid or a false alarm for example.
Thanks Mark. Great video. One question... I have a SimpliSafe alarm system with all SimpliSafe sensors (entry, motion, glass break, smoke/fire etc), including the base station and alarm pad. However, I no longer want to pay the £25 a month for the subscription. So, is it possible to add the SimpliSafe alarm pad to Alarmo, instead of the Alarmo card? Or, when I use the SimpliSafe alarm keypad, the Alarmo keypad automatically sets. Basically, I want to be able to use the alarm pad, but for it still to use the Alarmo setup. Thanks...
Hey Leon. Unfortunately I’ve not used any of simplisafes devices or services so I can’t say for sure sorry. If you can integrate them into HA then you can definitely use them to control Alarmo.
yes the alarmo triggers (arm home, arm away, dis-arm) are all passed to HA so its easy to tell when any of these happen and play the mp3 of your choice
Deffo a very fun and useful project. It would be great if they did (although I don't think most will). Most alarm systems have to be certified or have a "pro" install. Running Home Assistant is acknowledged by Locket and gives you a discount which is cool :)
If your using HA you can do this by doing a call service action then light turn on service then select which lights you want then at the bottom of the list there's an option to flash the lights either short flash or long flash.
how did you configure the alarm? Is this an actual device? I want to setup my sonos speakers as the siren. I am new to HA so I am struggling. Great video!
Hello Mark I really like you r videos and this one got me started with HA in my vacation house, where I'm building an alarm system based on Alarmo. I got HA up and running, I have my alarm sensors Door/Window from Aqara and Motion from Philips HUE all working in HA. I also got two older iPads configured as Alarm Panels. All running fine and and working as intended. I'm now trying to add a Woox R7051 Indoor Siren to the setup, but I can't pick it under the list of Entity in the Action section. The Woox is connected to HA via Zigbee2MQTT and I can see to device and it's entities in HA. Any idea what I need to look for? Next step in the alarm setup is connecting Reolink PoE cameras and the Adonno Tagreader - both with the help of your videos as well 🙂 Keep up the super work you are doing.
Appreciate it thank you :) For your alarm you may need to write your own zigbee trigger. Feel free to create a post over at my Discord or Facebook and I'll do my best to get back to you to help you get it working. Failing that one of the awesome community members can probably assist :D
did u do something special to get your siren into alarmo? i just connected my woox r7051 (same siren different brand) into z2m but it not showing up in the list. i just shows up as a device.
Heya. I think I did have to create a specific mqtt call for it. I will need to check my config. I’m away at the moment but give me a nudge (incase I forget). Or head over to my Facebook or Discord and me and others can share some screenshots and help with the code.
Great video, enjoy your content! :) Just want to add that it's perhaps a good idea to check that the contact sensors (specifically the doors) are closed when arming the alarm. Not sure if this type of feature is supported by Alarmo though.
Thank you! That feature is supported :) If you try and arm while sensors are open etc it will fail and give you a message. You can also choose to ignore this and bypass it.
Hi Mark, I set some scripts on the Action in order to announce the status of the alarm (armed, disarmed). The armed script work fine but the disarmed script speak too softly whereas the set_volume is the same on the two script. The yaml configurations are the same just differents texts to speech. Any ideas on why that ?
Is it possible to have a siren through your smart speaker? I noticed you mention something about smart speakers but not in any detail. I can see the option to have some text to speech through them but i'm not quite sure how I could setup a loud siren through them. Maybe you can't...
You can yes. The easiest way is to have an mp3 accessible by HA. You can then play that directly on a connected HA media source. The media sources usually also let you specify and control volume. This is really easy with speakers like Google nest and Sonos. Its a little more work with Amazon echoes but it’s also possible. I also have a video on Custom mp3s using echoes.
@@MarkWattTech thanks for getting back to me! I've had issues saving files through HA as I'm running it in docker on an Ubuntu machine... Hopefully accessing a file is a little easier
Awesome video. Setup my Alarmo and really happy, now to hunt for some decent alarm sounds or jus record myself singing into a mic and that should be enough to scare anyone away 🙂 Update: Seems like I needed to restart the HomeAssistant App on the client devices for the custom panel to show,🙂
Mark, the webstore for the alarm states. Note* Siren must be plugged in all the time. The battery is for emergency backup only Also I assume I don't need one of their hubs if already had a ZigBee network?
Correct for both :) You can just add it to you Zigbee network. I think i did mention the battery thing (or at least i did before the edit 😋. Ideally you would want any siren/warning device to have power for stability
Cool things you can do (already i have done) 1. Sound of a beep-beep-beep (load a mp3 to alexa via HA) while arming or its trigered before start the alarm... 2- Use a sound of siren to alexa when alarm triggered (another mp3 to alexa via HA)....3. and also, you can use callbot to call you via telegram when its triggered in alarm mode.
i do the same thing except with google assistant. Also have a dog barking and growling mp3 so if the smart door bell is pressed or someone knocks on the door (using a vibration sensor for that) when no one is home the sound is triggered on google assistant
@@takeover4726 Can't leave links on you tube but you need nabu casa account to get google assistant and/or alexa smart speakers to work with home assistant. There are ways to do it without a nabu casa account but it's not easy. Once you have a nabu casa account then you need a mp3 of a dog barking (got mine from amazon). Then you need to place the mp3 in the home assistant's media folder, then create a automation that triggers when your smart doorbell is pressed (i use the blink smart doorbell so have a alexa routine turn on a toggle helper in home assistant) i know this sounds complicated but it does work and there's not a lot of home automation platforms that can do this (can't think of any at the moment). Maybe Mark will create a how to video showing how its done 😀
Also using Alarmo with mostly sonoff devices and sensors in home assistant. In addition, I also have 6 Ezviz cameras that has building sirens and floodlights. With the ezviz api I can activate these from home assistant in the event of a trigger. And of course, when the sirens sound and their floodlights start flashing all my lights are also get turned on. I believe the satan’s minions does not want to walk in the light. 😊 I also use ESPressence to automatically set the alarm as well as geofencing when moving away from home. O yes, I have also connected an old perimeter beam to a sonoff mini switch and incorporated that in my alarm system. That would be the NO (normally open) connection. All alarm notifications from activate to… is broadcast thorough the house and to our mobile phones.
That's really cool i use espresense as well but never thought to use it in the alarmo system as HA can tell when the last person leaves the house and when the first person arrives home. But it would be a good backup in case HA didn't detect the changes. Although that hasn't happened yet. But backups are nice to have. 😀
Could we get a new Alarmo video? Maybe add a Ring keypad, more on modes and areas, advanced settings, scenes, and automations, general best practices and ideas?
Very good video, I was about to start my alarm system. Please dive into alarm because there aren't many extensive videos about it. BTW I use a Heimann zigbee alarm siren also very good. Have you found a good external zigbee siren? I cannot find something for home assistant that is outdoor.
I haven’t yet for outdoor. However I’ve been playing round with some ZWave stuff so I was going to see if I could get the Boundary one added as that thing is a monster 😂.
@@MarkWattTech is that zwave? I thought it uses different frequency and protocol. Maybe it can be integrated to alarm if boundary is compatible with HA?
I use a standard 12vdc outdoor siren horn mounted it outside ran the wires through the wall inside then conneted it to a 12vdc power suppy connected to a smart zigbee wall plug
@@HATipsByLarry It Can work like this, however i would like to have something with more access from home assistant as an entity, will be more flexible that way.

@@MarkWattTech Exactly My Doorlock already works with rfid and it would be awesome to use the same tag to disarm my alarm ! a pincode just doesn't feel like something from this time anymore
You can setup a automation so when alarmo is triggered then do a repeat command (new in HA), set the number of times you want it to repeat the following actions, then action would be call service, Light: Turn On, then there's a option for what color the light should be (blue) and towards the bottom of the list there's a option to flash the lights either short or long flash. Then do a wait for time to pass (say 3 secs), then do another call service but set color for red I also have mine turn the brightness to 100%
@@HATipsByLarry I like this idea, so I have 4 lights and I can set light 1 to flash blue, 2 to flash red, 3 to flash blue and 4 to flash red. Is there a way to get them to continually flash? @@jaygeorge9393 You could set the repeat loop to a very high number say 10000 it would not be infinite but it would be a VERY VERY long time before it quits unless you stopped it.

@@MarkWattTech can that even be done with alexa? I know there is a option to set a pin in the Home Assistant Cloud screen in HA for google assistant if you have a Nabu Casa Account, but haven't heard of anything like that for alexa
@@MarkWattTech Yes but i don't think alexa can pass a spoken pin code to HA (could be worng though). In HA, Home Assistant Cloud menu under the google assistant section there is a place you can enter a pin that can be used to get google assistant to ask for it. I believe you have to have a Nabu Casa Account for it to work though.
Same issue, bought the Ajax Siren Mark was using, have added it and can see the entities but can't get it to sound. Setting binary_sensor.siren_alarm to 'on' makes no difference. Thanks! Can you say just a little about the setup of the wall panel? Android? iOS? Any unusual settings to keep the HA app showing? Screen savers? Lessons learned?
I have some videos lined up for this :)
I will definitely say you pay for what you get.
Love it!
Excellent video. Just wondering do you have a breakdown on adding alexa devices to HA to use as notifications and sirens.
HAHa, found your video on exactly that. Fantastic stuff
@@YTCraig 👌🏻😁
Superb video, inormative, easy to understand and digest.
Is it possible to send a video clip of the event from a camera along with the notification?....with an option to access a video live feed?
It would be useful in determining whether activation was valid or a false alarm for example.
The first video of yours that I have watched.....I'm so impressed I've subbed!
Appreciate it thank you.
It is possible to do so yes. You can also have the feed automatically start (e.g someone at the door - have the tablet display the doorbell feed)
This is what i needed! thank you! What is your favoruite indoor zigbee PIR?
I really like Aqaras new P1 Motion. For WiFi based ones I love the Shelly Motion and outdoor Zigbee the expensive but great Phillips hue.
Have my system built with the default ha, are you able to use custom mp3 files for alarmo tones? Currently have this In the HA alarm and works great!
yes the alarmo triggers (arm home, arm away, dis-arm) are all passed to HA so its easy to tell when any of these happen and play the mp3 of your choice
Brilliant as always ! is there a way to lock the screen to the alarmo card when the alarm is armed ? (I have several pannels)
No but the pin code you can enable will prevent anyone from disarming the alarm without first entering it.
What kind of panel are you using? If your using Fully Kiosk you could call a script that sends all of the panels to your alarm dashboard :)
Love the idea. When I get enough sensors to make it work I'll definitely get this.
Wonder if insurance companies would accept it as an alarm system?
Deffo a very fun and useful project. It would be great if they did (although I don't think most will). Most alarm systems have to be certified or have a "pro" install. Running Home Assistant is acknowledged by Locket and gives you a discount which is cool :)
Wow great video. Please show us to to flash lights as well.
Maybe in the next one 😁
Yes, this would be a nice trick
If your using HA you can do this by doing a call service action then light turn on service then select which lights you want then at the bottom of the list there's an option to flash the lights either short flash or long flash.
Thank you
how did you configure the alarm? Is this an actual device? I want to setup my sonos speakers as the siren. I am new to HA so I am struggling. Great video!
Hello Mark
I really like you r videos and this one got me started with HA in my vacation house, where I'm building an alarm system based on Alarmo.
Next step in the alarm setup is connecting Reolink PoE cameras and the Adonno Tagreader - both with the help of your videos as well 🙂
Keep up the super work you are doing.
Appreciate it thank you :)
For your alarm you may need to write your own zigbee trigger.
Any way to notify by state of when door/window is opened or closed via a chime or sound on my Google assistants speakers?
Great video, enjoy your content! :)
Just want to add that it's perhaps a good idea to check that the contact sensors (specifically the doors) are closed when arming the alarm.
Not sure if this type of feature is supported by Alarmo though.
Thank you!
That feature is supported :) If you try and arm while sensors are open etc it will fail and give you a message. You can also choose to ignore this and bypass it.
@@MarkWattTech ahh, okay awesome!
Nice video as usual. Any suggestion for an external zigbee siren?
Thank you. Really appreciate it.
Not currently. But when I find one I will be sure to let you know!
Please make another video. I wanna take alarmo to the limit!
Works great Mark! at least so far....... do you think that it is possible to switch the alarm on and off using a nfc tag reader?
It is yes :) the tag reader I covered in a recent video work great
Hi Mark, I set some scripts on the Action in order to announce the status of the alarm (armed, disarmed). The armed script work fine but the disarmed script speak too softly whereas the set_volume is the same on the two script. The yaml configurations are the same just differents texts to speech. Any ideas on why that ?
Heya :) sorry for the delay. Did you manage to solve your issue?
@@MarkWattTech unfortunately no. I have change the set volume value in case of conflit with the same in several scripts but nothing change
Hi I would need to learn a function that individually turns off any light that has been on for more than xx hours.
Mark, Phone notification worked earlier. After update to Home Assistant OS 8.1, doesn't work any more. any idea please.
Great Alarmo
how you create the dashboard to be just 2 cards and that alignment?
How did you make the screen just show the alarmo with out showing the rest of the ha
Got this working, thank you!
Awesome video. Setup my Alarmo and really happy, now to hunt for some decent alarm sounds or jus record myself singing into a mic and that should be enough to scare anyone away 🙂
Update: Seems like I needed to restart the HomeAssistant App on the client devices for the custom panel to show,🙂
Looks nice shame to late for me as had a Tuya 433 alarm for a few years, use the sensors in HA for other things though
Mark, the webstore for the alarm states.
Note* Siren must be plugged in all the time. The battery is for emergency backup only
Also I assume I don't need one of their hubs if already had a ZigBee network?
Correct for both :)
You can just add it to you Zigbee network.
Bro what is a call bot 🥹
@@HATipsByLarry have you got a link how to do this for google assistant ? still learning
I also use ESPressence to automatically set the alarm as well as geofencing when moving away from home.
How did you add the "sensor status list" into the UI?
Heya :) it’s just an entities list of all contact sensors
This looks really good I'd appreciate a more detailed look
Anything in particular you would like to see? :)
how you align the cars to be so "in line"
Yes please
How do you make the alarm repeat? Mine is set but only plays 1x.
Could we get a new Alarmo video? Maybe add a Ring keypad, more on modes and areas, advanced settings, scenes, and automations, general best practices and ideas?
Potentially :D Its been on my list for a looooong time.
I do not have the alarmo card for Lovelace. can you say why it does not come out.i only have the standard card and one from mushroom
Did you add the Alarmo card via HACS frontend? :)
@@MarkWattTech thanks had missed it had to be installed for itself. It's found :)
@@leosedf the smartplug is accessible via Home assistant and can be turned on and off in automations which is all thats really needed.
very good

Offtopic: Are u able to play local MP3 using alexa media player. It's not working as it used to anymore. Followed ur steps correctly. Can u please confirm?
Can i arm and disarm from my yale doorlock?
How is the Yale lock connected? :)
If its in HA then more than likely yes.
Mark, a little off topic here, but I ordered a Hoobs Pro last March. They kept giving excuses about why it had not shipped and how it would ship next week, next week, etc. I finally cancelled my order in September, but they have refused to refund my funds. This is a very questionable business if not a complete SCAM!
how do you get the dashboard to look like that?
Which part sorry? :)
@@MarkWattTech the dashboard displaying the keypad. It's got no side or top bar . Looks clean. How to achieve that look?
I set it up but it doesn’t show on my tablet dashboard

where can you get free siren mp3's?
I do like this, but i wish i could add functionality to make my lights flash red and blue
I understand I can just wait then run the service again. But I’d like to flash infinite! Or at least till I turn it off
@@jaygeorge9393 You could set the repeat loop to a very high number say 10000 it would not be infinite but it would be a VERY VERY long time before it quits unless you stopped it.
Great video, even if a bit long (probably most users getting this far know how to install something from hacs and its enough to tell what to look for), however i would be interested in how to disarm the alarm via alexa in a way that's is asking for a PIN that you need to tell her.
Thank you. This was aimed as more of a basics video. If I do a more advanced one that will assume you just know a lot of the “stuffs”. Good shout on the voice assistant integration though. Ill be sure to show that.
@@MarkWattTech can that even be done with alexa? I know there is a option to set a pin in the Home Assistant Cloud screen in HA for google assistant if you have a Nabu Casa Account, but haven't heard of anything like that for alexa
@@MarkWattTech I've never used hacs so thanks for going through all the steps
@@HATipsByLarry you can expose alarms and locks to Alexa yes :)
Nice! Is there any HA addon or integration that will send me a text message and call me on the phone with my sip provider?
It’s not something I use but yes it’s possible. You can use things like Twillio but they often have a subscription fee.
