Would love to see a video of how you set up your detection.
I'd love to see a video on how you set things up. You tend to go deeper into things than other channels do. You actually have a REAL smart home that actually does what a Smart Home should, rather than just a home with remote controlled lights,
i would be ever grateful if you do a detailed video how to detect a family is home or away the first part of your video
Yes please this. I have been trying to set this up for so long. My companion app is accurately tracking me but I cannot get it set off an automation.
Good to have you back. some of the topics still go over my head but pushes me to learn more. keep up the hard work. would love to see a more indepth presence video and the templating and variable pass through i noted in your school pick up script.
Would definitely like to see a video on how you set up ESPresense!
I've been binging on your videos for the last while, really love your programming style. Keep up the good work.
Nice one Jeff!!! Thanks for the video
I'm experimenting quite a bit with person detection but via camera's, using frigate and double take in combination with some other tools. It's quite expensive if you want good quality cameras which keep stuff local and if the focus is too far away it will return a lof of false positives (now that I've got the Christmas tree set up it sometimes thinks that's a person for example) but on the other side when it works it is marvellous and pretty quick and responsive! I also use it as alarm: since it is capable of detecting persons I arm it when we leave and it will send me an image if a person is detected while we're away. Works really well because as soon as the door opens it will already send out the notification, it takes about 600ms to detect and send out the image notification
I switched from cameras+frigate to affordable mmWave/radar sensors. Works very well.
Nice job Jeff. Good to have you back. As a really old rookie that is getting started in HA, i appreciate more details on setting these up.
Also wondering about the current design of your Jarvis, now that HA has made some progress on voice.
I would love to know this too and see the updated video
Thank you for the tips! Yes please! I would like to see how you did setup your person based room lighting.
Very cool! Sub'd!
I'm very interested in how you setup the ESPresence to detect when everyone's left the house. I have set one up but the automation won't be triggered until I'm about 500 meters away from the house! I'm most curious to learn if I can use presence detection to automatically close the garage door.
I would like a video on esp presence in your setup.
Also I would like to not clutter every room with sensors, speakers, cameras etc.
Is there a ESP that can function as presence mmvawe, Bluetooth and optional pir, microphone and speaker for HA voice. Optional camera for some rooms
Sort of all in one is what I would like to see. If it can run both normal power and PoE it would be amazing.
Would love to see how to automate lighting in one room, with ESH presence, BLE sensor and a couple of iPhones.
Details please
How did you setup the companion app to reliably report location? On both my iOS devices it only updates every few days despite have always on location and background app refresh on. I’ve even reloaded the apps, but it is still unreliable.
Not sure why it's different. I have background refresh on. And under location services in the iPhone home assistant is set to always allow under location services and I have precise location turned on. In the companion app settings under location I have all the update sources turned on and all my zones enabled.
It is so weird, all my settings match, but even opening the app doesn't prompt an update, it does so at random and when I press the update location button. Both current and previous devices do this (clean install, nothing transferred) for both iPhone users in the house. I take it you have the latest iOS installed and Nabu Casa subscription, right? @@SlackerLabs
Presence detection does not appear to be granular enough as the bluetooth does go right true walls and you get a false location being reported. I wish it were better but it's all we have.
I agree. I have a small apartment where my living room and bedroom share a common wall, so any signal would pass right thru.
About the only thing I could use the BT presence detection for would be to detect if either my wife or I were at home, not which room we're in.
Good thing there are dozens of ways to detect presence and not just one way...
Person detection (individuals):
- HA companion app
- Facial recognition
- Ping/NMap
- Life360
- Smart locks
- ESPresence
Presence detection (anyone)
- Motion sensor
- Door sensor
- Devices or lights being used
- Car integration
Yea. It does take fine tuning the location of the devices and the limit of distance each node considers in the room. But I don't have any issues with devices reporting you in the wrong room.
@SlackerLabs what about issues reporting you being "not_home", ie when there isn't a node detecting your device? I'm just getting my own network of ESPresence nodes set up and sometimes it reports "not_home". There is a fine balance between allowing sufficient range to cover a large room while not leaving any 'dead' spots.
@daveforrester61 I used a mix of things. I use a template sensor that uses the esppresence motion sensors. mmWave, and other things that would indicate presence. Then it typically handles those times
you have to make it so not so savy guys like me will understand
