Thanks for sharing. Just ordered a fire 10 HD. Do you have a video on how you pop the doorbell cam up automatically and then suppress after a period of time?
Thanks! No, I don't have a video, but you can just use a REST command, which are documented on FK's website. If you want to see how I do it, hope on my discord (link in description). We've discussed it there and you can find the yaml for the automatoin
A good video, but it looks like when wiring your outlet you are using yellow 12/2, but it looks like those switches are white 14/2. For code compliance, you shouldn't mix these.
Thanks! It actually 12/2, just white instead of yellow because the yellow color-coding is more recent than most of the wiring in my house. That's not to say whoever originally wired the place did it to code... Pretty sure 3-conductor wire wasn't used for any of the 3-way switches
6:12 whaaat?? Do you have a live, neutral and earth wires connected (sourced) to all your light switches? Is it specific to your house or that how it's in US? I have seen it only once here in Europe. Seems to be a big waste, but kinda useful in some cases (like this one).
Might get a tablet myself for KIOSK modus. Would you suggest a Windows based tablet or a android based tablet for this. [I am the sole user, so either would be fine for me]
Gained inspiration from these videos and being innovative with the dashboard. Made huge strides in the past few weeks with the coding and setup... one thing I'm wondering, how did you optimize your dashboard for your tablet? Just logging in, seeing how wildly odd the size is, and go back to the drawing board... or something way more efficient? Thanks for everything you do!
Haha thanks! What I do is use the "layout-card" HACS mod to define the max width of any card. Based on that, I know that my dashboard can be three cards wide, and then it's just a matter of playing with the heights of each card using "card-mod" until they all line up at the bottom. I went over some of this in my live stream, I know it's long form but if you want to see some more of what I did, that's a good place to start. If you have more questions, feel free to hop on my Discord
@@makeitworktech might take you up on the discord piece, I've watched your live stream all the way through and a few portions multiple times for giggles - ill have to circle back through on the layout card, thanks again!
Nice video! Is there a chance you can share the YAML code behind the two persons icons with the option to know if they're home or not? It's the only thing missing for me in my dashboard.
Hey! I don't know if this was answered in another video of yours... But how did you get HA to switch to a completely dedicated view when the doorbell is rung? I could only get it to show a conditional picture-at-a-glance card, but I was hoping for full screen... Please let me know! 🥂 Also.. What do you use for card organization? Grids? Stack cards? I'm trying to stop my tablet from accidentally scrolling and can't seem to figure it out.. Thank you in advance!
Hey Matt! That automation wasn't covered in the video, but I did cover it on our Discord. If you pop over there, you can see how we do it. Basically you create a view that has a Panel (full page) card of your doorbell feed, and then an automation that navigates to that page, keeps it there for 1 min, and then brings it back to the original page. I use Stack cards and Stack-In-Cards for card organization
Have you tried the ha cast option where you can cast a dashboard to a device? I prefer webpage directly, but I was wondering your thoughts. Did you setup separate dashboards specific to the tablets in their particular areas or just use a generic dashboard? I do still think fully kiosk is one of the best ways to create a dashboard, unless you want to really muck around using app daemon, which is something I have never managed to master. Battery life.... You'd have to keep the smart charging to keep the tablet between 50 and 75% charge for longest battery life. Never fully charge and never let it fall too low. that 50 to 75% is where the LION batteries are most stable and happy.
I'd love for you to do a video about your shift from tuya. It's pretty hard to find plugs and bulbs that are non-cloud and compatible with home assistant, would love some suggestions
hmmm, I'll add it to the list! I made a video covering HA-compatible plugs if you're looking for that... There are tons out there! ruclips.net/video/O7pC1oI86gg/видео.html I'm actually going to start working on a bulb comparison video pretty soon, because I'm also looking for bulbs that are not Tuya based.
Having to charge the tablet on the wall would drive me nuts! I would get a smart socket that goes into the wall and a smart button tasked to turn the power to the plug on and off.
Is it also possible to use a iPad 3 for this? Or are there problems (with FullyKiosk, ...? Because you can get a used iPad 3 very cheap, like 10$. And there are also many 3D-print-cases because of it's wide use.
Hi what cameras do you have? Seems very response integration. I don't have a ring doorbell but instead use Ring Floodlight cameras got 4 of them and use it with Tasker to click the notification when someone approaches the door. It's hit and miss so just seeing what alternatives there are out there. Ring deprecating Rapid Ring App also doesn't help. Also thanks for this I used the family code it's great. I've a amazon fireHD mounted in hallway , living room and upstairs and just want to upgrade my dashboard to make it even better so your tips are grat.
Hi, great videos! Just curious if you have have been able to control the volume of your fire tablet HD10 2021 in HA via an automation or command? Thanks
I really liked your dashboard. I have taken quite a few ideas. How do you refresh the browser on a regular basis? I see that my own battery charge was at 25%, I looked to plug my phone in only to see it already plugged in and at 100%. So I look back at the kiosk and it was 4 hours old on the clock, and not updating.
any luck finding an stl for the wall mount brackets. i have 2 printers here and REALLY hard to justify spending that much for a 3dprinted part when i have 2 printers here lol
@@makeitworktech Oh, that's an interesting opinion, why do you think so? 🤔 Well I was thinking about it because I find out about SIM-ON app lately and it's cooperating with these two at this moment. So I'm watching your video and I have a Ring doorbell (not the doorbell you have) but I want to do the same thing. When the Ring doorbell is depressed (they call it a Ding) it's state goes from "clear" to "detected". I want full screen video from the Ring for 30 seconds following a Ding. I haven't figured out how to do that in an automation yet. I did download the new Ring MQTT integration which everybody seems to be glowing over but when I make the automation I can't get anything to work. My condition is: "Front Door Ding changes from clear to detected" My action is "Ring MQTT with video streaming" Help?
I followed your first video and I have been using my tablet as a dashboard for almost a year. The problem that I faced was with the Smart USB Outlet. I ordered two and both stopped working. I moved to a common outlet with a Shelly.
Actually I think smart charging isn't needed or actually the battery it self isn't cuz if power is down you most likely don't have a ups for your router anyways so it would not do anything
I did use a old tablet as wall control panel and two phone as cctv and I removed the battery to prolong the life of tablet and not heat up the only down side is u need to power it on manually when needed
The tabletop with magnetic charging dock looks less out of place and you can pick it up and use it as a tablet for a while. Can't remember who's video was it.

I’m running on my dressing tables Alexa Echo Show 3rd Gen, and throughout my home LIFX lights, Reolink security cameras and Ring Door bells Cameras and I’d love to use an iPad which I have currently, instead of an extra cost of purchasing a Amazon Fire tablet, but I can’t find the Fully Kiosk App in the Apple Store, could you please help me out with an awesome App to use because the Fully Kiosk looks Amazing and I’d love to hear from you as soon as you have some spare time to look into it for me. So I look forward to hearing from you soon, take care. Cheers Mark
Hi Mark, from what I understand there aren't any apps like that for iOS because Apple doesn't like to give you (or apps) this kind of control over their devices. I have looked into this, but I haven't seen anyone that has been able to access the camera of the iPad as a motion sensor or camera entity in HA. The best I've seen is someone using an iPad and the "browser_mod" app with their iPad. They used the browser_mod to turn their screen on and off based on motion, but the motion detection was from an external sensor. FWIW I've had a couple of tablets permanently plugged in for a couple of years without any obvious ill effects. (The battery will probably explode tomorrow now I've said that out loud). What are you using for the date/time card in the centre of the screen
Good to know! Yeah I'm thinking that the device will be too slow before the battery swells haha The center card is the custom:digital-clock card from HACS
trying to replicate what you have for your person trackers... Instead of the image I have for myself showing.. I get /api/image/s...... cant see anything past the letter "s" .. when i click the button.. it shows my image on the map like normal . My Image shows up fine on Dwains dashboard ( but i dont like DD) ..shows up fine as a small entity card..but not something bigger like this. Are you using a custom card? Looks like a glance card possibly. I was just trying to use two button cards on a grid for two people. Any help would be great
This was awesome. I've been looking to hook up my house with home assistant and get things automated. Could you do more than one tablet? Such as one on the first floor and another on the second? Also, what about a mobile app?

@@makeitworktech Is a local Tuya custom integration easy to do? My mistake of routing it through HA to make it local makes me sad both nerd and financially lol
Haha, it isn't too bad. You have to get the local key for each device that you want to add, which takes some time. I have tested it but haven't bothered switching over, but I make sure that anything critical in my home is not Tuya cloud based.
Is an HA blue required to run home assistant on a Fire HD 10? Im new to setting up this type control panel. So far our smart home devices include Hue smart bulbs, as well as Hue Bridge, ring doorbell, some motion sensors and wireless remotes and dimmers placed in the usual light switch locations for visitors etc., and several echo devices for voice command. So with this, we would like to put everything in one location as a control dashboard. But im a bit unclear on what is fully necessary to run HA…..hope someone can help. Thanks
Amazing video you do inspire me to get a fire tablet and make a smart dashboard for my hallway area. I wanted to know the specs of the machine that you are running HA on? The reason I ask is because I run my HA on docker on an Intel Celeron J3455 1.50Ghz 8gb RAM but when I try to view my camera stream, its very laggy and not smooth. I was told on the HA forums its due to my NUC specs. What's your view? Thanks
The fire tablet video will be super low frame rate - it will definitely be choppy, and shouldn't have anything to do with your specs. I'm not sure why it is that low
I run a home assistant blue. What camera stream are you referring to? I thought you were saying that the camera stream from the fire tablet's camera in HA is slow.
This whole "tablet as dashboard" is great. "Sadly" here in the EU we don't have cardboard walls, which kinda makes the whole thing more complicated. Planning on something similar, but I'll probably have to use a cable channel
@@makeitworktech solid concrete :D Guess there is no way around cable channels... Plus I don't think my landlord would be okay with me, literally ripping open the concrete walls, using whatever heavy tool I'd need because "I want a tablet on my wall" Gotta see what I can do. Just ordered a Fire HD 8, because I'm literally not gonna use it for anything else, 8" is enough for me, and it was over 50% less than a Fire HD 10. Sadly I gotta wait for my ISP to unlock my internet first tho, but then I'm getting into this whole home assistant stuff. Been only using the "native" stuff before like Hue and Tapo

@@makeitworktech have you ever tested out, how long the tablet would survive on battery? With it mostly displaying static images and only when motion is detected, i thought i might just actually use it on battery... could be an option. I'd have no issues with loading it like 1x a week or so
The outlet that I was using has a smart USB port so I can turn the charging on and off via an automation. I made a whole video on that here: ruclips.net/video/n2DRz9QBXDs/видео.html
I set up a Dashboard with fully as well which works great. I want to change the Fully current URL using a button on my main dashboard to get to pages I don't have to view that often. I'm sure this is very easy but I just can't get it to work. Any one an idea?
You can use a rest command to do this (REST API is documented on the FK website), but if you hop on my discord I can send you formatted code. Any reason why you're not using the navigate action? Something like this for a button card: tap_action: action: navigate navigation_path: livingroom
Could you please share the yaml code for the digital clock on your dashboard. Using the card mod with the custom digital clock card didn't work for me. Thanks.
When this guy is hacked the can litterlay can lock him up in his own house and enter the house whenever the want to. Thats one of the reason why camera's only need to be outside or in a hallway and no smart locks.
Your not doing anything for battery bloating on the tablet? Should use a smart outlet so you can drain the battery on the tablet to 20% and then have it turn on the outlet to charge it to 80%, then let it go up and down like that daily to prevent bloat.
Hah! Your robovac is called Betsy?! No joke, I wanted to call ours Betsy when we got it at the time, but the kids named it Bethanie. So this must be a thing then!?
@02:45 Dude, please please do set up a smart USB port for your tablet. One small part is to do with battery life, but more importantly, batteries don't like being on power all the time. Case in point. During covid I was remote working with my laptop in the office and me remoting in to it to work. After being on power 24/7 for 18+ months, the internal battery got so swollen that it deformed the keyboard to the lid couldn't close. But more importantly, letting it swell made it a likely fire hazard. ruclips.net/video/0qrPF9MTAaU/видео.html I have a new battery, but left it to the side as it'd go the same way as the other one. If I need it to be mobile then I can easily put the new battery in. When I took out the damaged one it looked like a fat poptart :D

Thanks! It actually 12/2, just white instead of yellow because the yellow color-coding is more recent than most of the wiring in my house. That's not to say whoever originally wired the place did it to code... Pretty sure 3-conductor wire wasn't used for any of the 3-way switches
You can mix 12/2 and 14/2. Lol
Love the dashboard. What card are you using for the Family display? That's my favorite card.
thanks! It's based on the custom button card, but very complex. I talked about it in my livestream, and you can find the code on my github
I was able to finally get it working. Indentation was kicking my butt. Much appreciated!
Hi, have you got a video on how you made your dashboard as want much of mine to look like yours? thanks
Yeah, dashboards for beginners

@@makeitworktech Hi - where can I find this live stream? thanks for your content.
Nice video!
Is there a chance you can share the YAML code behind the two persons icons with the option to know if they're home or not? It's the only thing missing for me in my dashboard.
Thanks! Yup, link to my github in the description!
Hey! I don't know if this was answered in another video of yours... But how did you get HA to switch to a completely dedicated view when the doorbell is rung? I could only get it to show a conditional picture-at-a-glance card, but I was hoping for full screen... Please let me know! 🥂
Also..
I would be interested in seeing how you got the date/ time to look so good
I discussed it a little bit in my first livestream, and you can also find my yaml in my github. Hope either of those help!
Awesome video. Subscribed! I'll be doing this in my home one day soon.
Thanks!! 🙏

I'm actually going to start working on a bulb comparison video pretty soon, because I'm also looking for bulbs that are not Tuya based.
Having to charge the tablet on the wall would drive me nuts! I would get a smart socket that goes into the wall and a smart button tasked to turn the power to the plug on and off.
Wow! Looks amazing!! Mine is so simple 😅 but i would love to put a big clock like yours, how do yo did it?😍
That clock is a custom card called digital clock
@@makeitworktech thanks!! got it :)
i like your dashboard, do you have a guide on how to set something like that?
Working on that, plus a livestream coming soon!
Is it also possible to use a iPad 3 for this?
Or are there problems (with FullyKiosk, ...?
Because you can get a used iPad 3 very cheap, like 10$. And there are also many 3D-print-cases because of it's wide use.
iPad doesn't allow the kind of control of their devices, so apps like Fully Kiosk wouldn't work unfortunately
I use Wyze V2 cameras flashed with RTSP firmware. Nice sounds like you're set up nicely!
i've noticed that you use avatar image for your presence pictures in HA. may i ask where you found and/or created those?
Yup, I used bitmoji.com
Hi, great videos! Just curious if you have have been able to control the volume of your fire tablet HD10 2021 in HA via an automation or command? Thanks
Looks like you can with a REST command!

Thanks! I use the battery percentage from the Home Assistant app (also installed on the tablet) rather than the battery info that FK gives you
Very cool, thanks for sharing!
any luck finding an stl for the wall mount brackets. i have 2 printers here and REALLY hard to justify spending that much for a 3dprinted part when i have 2 printers here lol
Nothing that would fit on mine! I'll have to keep digging!
This seems to be the easiest way I've seen, I'd probably put the tablet in the wall. Thanks.
Yeah, the second time around is much easier than the first, but still it's not bad. Thanks!
Great video Aaron! ;)
Thank you very much, BT!!
What do you think about Fibaro or SmartThings devices? 😊
I like SmartThings devices. Fibaro are overpriced in my opinion
@@makeitworktech Oh, that's an interesting opinion, why do you think so? 🤔 Well I was thinking about it because I find out about SIM-ON app lately and it's cooperating with these two at this moment. Guess I will have to do more research 😆 Unfortunately I can't find any review of SIMLAB products from any 'stranger' 🙄Hope there will be sth soon

My condition is: "Front Door Ding changes from clear to detected"
My action is "Ring MQTT with video streaming"
Help?
I followed your first video and I have been using my tablet as a dashboard for almost a year. The problem that I faced was with the Smart USB Outlet. I ordered two and both stopped working. I moved to a common outlet with a Shelly.
Good idea! Which Shelly?
@@makeitworktech I used the Shelly 1 behind the outlet. So far, so good
Actually I think smart charging isn't needed or actually the battery it self isn't cuz if power is down you most likely don't have a ups for your router anyways so it would not do anything
I did use a old tablet as wall control panel and two phone as cctv and I removed the battery to prolong the life of tablet and not heat up the only down side is u need to power it on manually when needed
It may be possible to make it auto power up but my device is not possible to root so it's not possible for me
Smart charging is to preserve the battery, so it doesn't become a spicy pillow.
The tabletop with magnetic charging dock looks less out of place and you can pick it up and use it as a tablet for a while. Can't remember who's video was it.
Yeah, I really wanted a wall mount where the kids can't reach it. That was @smarthomesolver who showed that I think
Hi. Which platform did you decide to use for home automation? Tuya?
Hone Assistant!
How would I look in to doing the doorbell press event where it shows who's at the door?

Hi, What a awesome video you’ve put together, you really know your stuff!
Cheers
Mark
Hi Mark, from what I understand there aren't any apps like that for iOS because Apple doesn't like to give you (or apps) this kind of control over their devices. I have looked into this, but I haven't seen anyone that has been able to access the camera of the iPad as a motion sensor or camera entity in HA. The best I've seen is someone using an iPad and the "browser_mod" app with their iPad. They used the browser_mod to turn their screen on and off based on motion, but the motion detection was from an external sensor. Here's the link to their post: community.home-assistant.io/t/fully-kiosk-type-app-for-ipad-tablet/107773/18

I have alexa devices, would they work with the fully kiosk browser? I mean can i make this control panel with alexa devices?
I don't think so, unfortunately
Aaron, nice video with some great info! I'm in the design process of setting up my dashboard. I wanted to track my family member locations and currently use Life360. As you know, Life360 has dropped "external" support. So, I need to switch to something else. I was curious what you were using for your people dashboard card? Also, do you happen to know where I can find out more information about re-creating a card like you have or are you able to share your code for that?

How did you get your armcrest to show video on door press for a minute?

Then after a minute, the automation sends a rest command with the URL of the original Lovelace page. Hop on my discord if you have more questions!
FWIW I've had a couple of tablets permanently plugged in for a couple of years without any obvious ill effects. (The battery will probably explode tomorrow now I've said that out loud). What are you using for the date/time card in the centre of the screen
Good to know! Yeah I'm thinking that the device will be too slow before the battery swells haha
The center card is the custom:digital-clock card from HACS
trying to replicate what you have for your person trackers... Any help would be great
They're actually custom button cards, you can check out my config in my GitHub which is linked in the description. Hope it helps!
This was awesome. I've been looking to hook up my house with home assistant and get things automated. Could you do more than one tablet? Such as one on the first floor and another on the second? Also, what about a mobile app?
Yeah, I have one on each floor! Mobile app is solid!
How did you get that time and date card to look like that
What do you mean by "like that"?

How about using Rhasspy with this to make it truly local control?
Excellent idea! I actually never knew that Rhasspy existed until very recently, but I definitely want to give it a try!
Ok I think I have made a mistake in my planning, I thought that if you run tuya products through home assistant it makes them local?
Only if you use the Local Tuya custom integration... The native integration is cloud based
@@makeitworktech Is a local Tuya custom integration easy to do?
Thanks
I think I responded to this comment on another video
@@makeitworktech what do you mean by the firetablet video?
I run a home assistant blue.
What camera stream are you referring to? I thought you were saying that the camera stream from the fire tablet's camera in HA is slow.
@@makeitworktech just in general your camera streams work quick. What cameras do you use if I may ask ?

Sort of... you can connect HA to Alexa and control the devices from there
your tablet too beautiful but especially your cards ..... I want the editor of your cards 😭😭😭😭😭
My gihub has the yaml for my dashboard!
Dashboard are great but you have to enable Alexa and very selective smart plugs work Alexa.
This dashboard is for Home Assistant. Many smart plugs work with Home Assistant, and these devices can then be connected to Alexa if desired.
This whole "tablet as dashboard" is great.
"Sadly" here in the EU we don't have cardboard walls, which kinda makes the whole thing more complicated.
Planning on something similar, but I'll probably have to use a cable channel
Ah, that's a bummer! What are your walls made of?
@@makeitworktech solid concrete :D
Guess there is no way around cable channels...
Plus I don't think my landlord would be okay with me, literally ripping open the concrete walls, using whatever heavy tool I'd need because "I want a tablet on my wall"
Gotta see what I can do.
Ah yeah that could be a problem! 😂

@@makeitworktech have you ever tested out, how long the tablet would survive on battery?
With it mostly displaying static images and only when motion is detected, i thought i might just actually use it on battery... could be an option.
I'd have no issues with loading it like 1x a week or so
No I haven't tried. Depends on how much you walk up to it and trigger screen on
That into got me thinking i was watching the diamond mine cart

I set up a Dashboard with fully as well which works great. I want to change the Fully current URL using a button on my main dashboard to get to pages I don't have to view that often. I'm sure this is very easy but I just can't get it to work. Any one an idea?
You can use a rest command to do this (REST API is documented on the FK website), but if you hop on my discord I can send you formatted code.
Any reason why you're not using the navigate action? Something like this for a button card:
tap_action:
action: navigate
navigation_path: livingroom

When this guy is hacked the can litterlay can lock him up in his own house and enter the house whenever the want to. Thats one of the reason why camera's only need to be outside or in a hallway and no smart locks.
Welcome to Home Assistant, where nothing is accessible outside the local network!
Your not doing anything for battery bloating on the tablet? Should use a smart outlet so you can drain the battery on the tablet to 20% and then have it turn on the outlet to charge it to 80%, then let it go up and down like that daily to prevent bloat.
I'm doing that on my other one. Made an entire video about it. Long term comparison between the two

Haha awesome! Our first was actually called Johnny Rocket, but this one I chose the name, and Betsy it is haha
Must be a thing!
But more importantly, letting it swell made it a likely fire hazard.
ruclips.net/video/0qrPF9MTAaU/видео.html
I have a new battery, but left it to the side as it'd go the same way as the other one. If I need it to be mobile then I can easily put the new battery in.
When I took out the damaged one it looked like a fat poptart :D
Yeah, I made a whole video about that. I guess we'll see which of my tablets dies first, the one that is "smart charging", or the one that isn't!
