I have never changed my sand in 6 years. My filter requires 175 lbs of sand. This year my filter system was not working very well like it normally does so I decided to change the sand today. I watched your video and it helped me a lot! The only thing I did differently was fill my filter halfway with water before adding sand. I found those instructions on the filter itself. That did the trick! The top part of the filter went on so smoothly after I did that. I also used a little styrofoam cup instead of duct tape to keep the new sand from getting inside the pvc pipe in the middle. The entire process of switching out my sand took me about 40 minutes total! So glad I watched your video first because I like how you just dumped your filter over to get the sand out. That worked great for me! THANKS!!!

There is a drain at the bottom of the drum I just take the cape off and let it drain that way. I also use a wet and dry vacuum to get the sand out of the bottom.
My husband and I will be doing this for the first time with our filter. This video helped a lot!!
Now first off I've watched maybe 20 of these. This is by far the best one! Why? Bc those other guys edit their videos and cut out the most helpful parts e.g. being stuck, and difficulties - which is always what you run into. Thank you! Ironically you already changed the multiport valve which is also something I plan on doing - I don't have any help but I do have a shop vac. So hopefully tmr weather permitting I can do both. Sir, there is a much much easier way to get the sand out of the filter than the way you did it. Did you know that you could take the sand out through the drain fitting on the bottom? You have to take the drain hole cover off and reverse it to use the hex head as a removal tool to get a plug out of it. Once you do that, you can rinse the sand out through the drain hole with a water hose.
Thanks for the tip to help people out Tom. That's all I try to do with these videos so those who don't have any idea what to do can at least get started in the right direction. All my work on the pools is trial and error and just go do it and not be scared to try. You learn by just trying and doing it. Another person suggested a shop vac. I may have done it the harder way, but it got done.
