This is absolutely heart wrenching.. The innocence lost when he's sees the harm he causes in this world. A perfect analogy for human. All man kind can learn from this single song and video.
+Dime Wash There are quite a few stories of people who do this kind of thing and then go on to become vegans and build animal shelters and get involved in rainforest conservation and stuff.
+Jorn Overa My dad told me that when he was 6 or 7, he and his friend found a kitten and decided to play with it. They propped a little ramp and threw the kitten on it over and over again and watched it slide down, until eventually it died, of course. I think it didn't occur to them that that will hurt it. He told me he came home and told this to his mother and she said "God will hang you from your eyelashes for this". He himself said that thing will take him to hell. He's vegetarian now.
Hadar Eden im not disputing that he doesnt deserve it. All cruilty to animals should incur immense guilt and sorrow. unfortunately the world doesnt always work like that.
It's a shame cartoons these days don't have the thought and deep meaning that this one holds. Also the music is simply majestic, absolutely incredible fusion of two spectacular pieces of art.
What an amazing song to play alongside this video. I remember this cartoon from when I was a kid and I think this song does it more justice than the original score, honestly.
great video for one of the greatest songs ever. The sad thing about reality is that most of those who hold their guns with pride and kill don't feel any grief...
Kid's reaction is golden as many humans would feel immense guilt in creating cruelty...this tells something about our inherent nature to be compassionate to all sentient life...and yet we still eat them.
I shot a bird when I was a kid, just like that kid, It fell to the ground, I had to shoot it aagain and agin, its was in so much pain, had to put it out of the misey I caused it. Iwas just a little kid with bb gun. Never shot anyelse ever again, I can see it clraely in my mind 40 years later. I've beed saving and feeding birds ever since. Strange this is, if not for that death I would have never known, never would have learned to respect all life and to try and bring joy and help not hurt.
My "kind-of-nephew" used to repeatedly play too hard with an old cat, his grand-parents' very old and very patient cat. He'd push it, hit it, press hard on the cat. He'd be reprimanded, but not too much because the parents were very protective and he was only 3, barely understanding the consequences. Then the cat got very sick and nearly died while he was there. Cat had to go to the vet for a few days, wouldn't eat anymore, got sick a lot. He cried and said it was his fault, even though everyone told him no, that the cat was old... But he got scared and cried a lot. Now, he is very very gentle and soft with the cat, that survived. The cat loves to stay around him and isn't scared anymore.
Anyone else cry a little when bird was shot and the parents show up and try to revive it? This music really brings it out of the cartoon in a interesting way. Damn lol.
austinhodaiefilms This video could've got much better, if the final scene was replaced by the cloudy - rainy sky and trees, to let us feel that the bird died for good ...... I don't like happy endings .. they don't exist :\
One morning out of the blue my dad told me about how he shot a bird with his BB gun when he was a kid but the bird died and my dad said he felt bad because he didn’t think it would kill the bird. I don’t remember what kind of bird he said it was it was either a Yellow Canary, a Blue Jay, or a Robin. I just thought it was strange he told me that because it was a while after i found this video and he usually never talks about himself at all especially not about sad things like that.
Mogwai has such amazing music. It's not just that. It's art. In the strictest, but best, definition of it. Art should make you realize new things, feel deep emotions, broaden you. My favorite lyric is: "music is bigger than words and wider than pictures" from "Yes! I am a long way from home" which is another great song. But all of Mogwai's songs are great.
C'est une des (rares) musique qui me rend dingue... Fou.... C'est assez incroyable, car j'ecoute beaucoup de musique mélancolique mais celle ci elle est goldée.
The neighbor girl and I did the same thing as a kid, except it was with a squirrel. It just sat there struggling for ages and the only thing we could do was keep shooting it in the head hoping it would eventually stop. It was terribly painful to watch, and I'll never forget the look on her face as we sat there trying to put it out of it's misery, it was horrible.
Well, this tune is already good enough... But personally, i believe you added art in here by making this video... The combination is simply... perfect! Thank you, Simon, and Thank You Mogwai
This song is a metaphor.....people do things in life that they will regret in retrospect...all of us have been there....remorse in our hearts......sometimes the sadness wells up in our souls and weighs us down.....I think of this song as a cleanser, it makes feel like a human being and I think twice about how I react to circumstance........Try listening to this song followed by M83's "We own the sky"...it will lift your spirits
The song+video is about regret and shame. To feel awful about yourself almost everyday. Living with the constant fear that, someday, someone will discover the truth. Will discover what you did in the past, many years ago. The worst part? You don't remember what exactly you did. You only know for sure that you are less than human. You see yourself as a kind of monster.
@Atomtristemother Thank you man that's a good thing to hear these days. Not very many people would actually give a shit about that. You have my respect. Bryson was only a baby when he died. He was abused, and it caused his death. He didn't even hit a year old. My father took the blame and is in prison now for something he didn't do, and the murderer still roams free. But thank you for that.
I'm 45 years old, when I was a child, I once shot a sparrow with a slingshot ... I went into one, a woman came and took this wounded sparrow, I said I'll give the cats ... I do not know, maybe she specifically said so, he was still alive and Wounded .... Then I felt ashamed ... I'm still ashamed ... my conscience was sick .. it was in childhood. I did not understand what I was doing. I am ashamed. I love animals and birds, I have them. Street birds, I feed. I understood what nature is for a long time. I feed crows, jackdaws, pigeons. I love nature and animals. I'm from Russia.
Knowledge is power and power is to be shared. Share or shut it because we are all human, all the same and all living our lives in different ways with different views on the world. Respect eachother, and listen to the music because thats what this video is, not somewhere for you to decide who is the better man based on how "smart" you are, just, please. For once.
Haha, its not really a complaint, more a hope that people out there today can create something as equally as meaningful and brilliant as this old cartoon :)
That happy moment when you discover a Mogwai song you never heard of
Small great pleasures of life
This is absolutely heart wrenching.. The innocence lost when he's sees the harm he causes in this world. A perfect analogy for human. All man kind can learn from this single song and video.
stop with the bullshit,it´s just a fucking bird
Everytime I see this, I like to think the kid is made to feel the guilt his whole life. As he never becomes aware the little bird was ok in the end.
+Dime Wash There are quite a few stories of people who do this kind of thing and then go on to become vegans and build animal shelters and get involved in rainforest conservation and stuff.

I think he is 1% of a monster because he doesn´t feel remorse , and his porpuse on the first place was to damage the bird ...
Dime Wash he kinda deserves it, doesn't he? Don't actions have results?
Hadar Eden im not disputing that he doesnt deserve it. All cruilty to animals should incur immense guilt and sorrow. unfortunately the world doesnt always work like that.
Whenever i am in a particularly dark place, i come back to this video and somehow it helps.
I don’t know why
It's a shame cartoons these days don't have the thought and deep meaning that this one holds. Also the music is simply majestic, absolutely incredible fusion of two spectacular pieces of art.
3AM was the perfect time to find this band
Holyshit it's 2:35am for me.
Perfect indeed.
I read your comment at 2:35 am

I don't know what it is about this band and heavy souls discovering them at 3 am, but it checks out.
Mogwai makes me feel things i've never felt before.
That's heavy.
haven't cried in over 8 years and man it made me teary
Kid's reaction is golden as many humans would feel immense guilt in creating cruelty...this tells something about our inherent nature to be compassionate to all sentient life...and yet we still eat them.
@Kelly Daye are u for real? smh

Perfect combination. I have chills.
the fact that you're here listening to this makes you awesome!

The ending definitely wasn't happy for the boy
Cartoon is called "THE SONG OF THE BIRDS" Cartoon by Fleischer Studios (1935) :P and it doe shave an happy ending!
Leave the female deer alone they need not be shaven
This song is too short - what a beautiful song.
I think the same about Friend Of The Night.
The little bird's only just taken off and I'm already welling up. This video's going to be sad isn't it :(
Well, Oberyn's death, that's sad.
Apostolos Filippas nice spoiler tytion dies

Also this ^ was the 222nd comment but not anymore because of this reply
this is one of few songs by Mogwai that was not pressed on vinyl, anywhere
Yes, but it's still (fairly) popular as a song :)
luv the message. lots of monsters out there

The song makes this cartoon seem so deep.
It's amazing how brilliant the video feels with this track.
Fits amazingly well with the video. Really good song.
i laughed....i cried...i did hard drugs while watching....
the best video/audio combo on youtube...
Oh my gosh... I remember seeing this cartoon when I was little and thought it was pretty much the saddest thing I had ever seen at the time...
That shit hit too hard, I can't breathe.
Oh man I love the comments here. And I love the post-rock community. And I love you, yes, especially you reading this

You gave such a beautiful depiction of what this song means to you
Well, this tune is already good enough... But personally, i believe you added art in here by making this video... The combination is simply... perfect! Thank you, Simon, and Thank You Mogwai
Reminds me of Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring (2003).
'O ser humano é uma experiência, só o tempo dirá se valeu a pena..."

whenever i'm sad , this is the first song that comes up to my mind !
Oh. Well, great. Now I'm a puddle. Thanks, Mogwai.

I don't think the song could have had a better video clip! Very well done! ^_^

But thank you for that.
this melody just blew my mind
This gives me hope, thank you. Merry Christmas :)
Beautiful video. There is a magick in nature no ordinary man can touch.
Beautifull video and perfect precise timer on the little bird shooting, Aprecio mucho tu video :)

The more I listen to Mogwai, the more I'm convinced I like them.
Nice done, totaly agree with fitznicely. MOGWAI 4ever \m/
*_1%_*
The moment when you discover that you are at least 1% of monster yourself.
Such a disturbing video. Loved it.
We all live and learn from our mistakes and others mistakes. Its just takes a person who knows what not to do to succeed and be a better person.
Fits like a glove.
Ha, I would say the kid's a killer in the making, but he felt remorse in the so ahah. Still fits the song perfectly.
Great cartoon!!!!!!
This vid and song go perfectly
love this and the toon
Great dong and for the video...bless
This is so sad, but so true
I remember watching this as a kid >.o

verry verry great song
Oh god the feels.
I know this video since 5 years now .. thanks for making such a great work but ....
The Ending Doesn't Make Sense!!!!!!! WHY!?
Amazing!
Haha, its not really a complaint, more a hope that people out there today can create something as equally as meaningful and brilliant as this old cartoon :)
the structure reminds me of sigur ros
Mohammed Abdulrahman i think sigur ros is inspired by this band
yes, it is
John McSayer just think when "britpop" was at its height in the late 90's mogwai had just released "mogwai young team"-pioneers 👍
"shut the fuck up people I am speaking."
,dan'
SO IN LOVE !
Million monsters all around the world....
i cried.
I thought the kid was going to go nuts at the end. Like Tell Tale Heart.
I Love It
Its sad because some people just never learn.
I remember this cartoon
just make me sad 😔
God sent an angel
I didn’t love her enough
He took her away
When the animated story, shows the real face of world.
Damn dude.. That was depressing.
Try to imagine what some veterans go through.
a nice cartoon, reminds me of those from the 1940s in America.
Probably because it's from the 30's...
Feels :'(
wow... what a build up
Almost sadder than the 80s Montreal kid flick The Dog who Stopped the War.
She was the ONLY one who could bring out the monster in me........ I REGRET KNOWING OF HER EXISTENCE!
JRS
@schoolwork84 **nods** Mogwai is magick. :)
Wow
oh he lived, hooray! :D
All creatures have feelings in a cartoon, no offense
Really touching video tho
music is feeling, only a few people understand that
I wish that was true, but based on the amount of videos available it is not
Maybe Fleischer Cartoons decided to make a cartoon out of what you experienced.
If only my brother could have come back like that bird did. And the one who murdered him would have felt the remorse that the boy felt.
