- Here in this video, I'd like to demonstrate how we can analyse, tabulate and prepare graph from rank questions.
In the rank order scaling, respondents are presented with several objects simultaneously and asked to order or rank them according to some criterion.

I really appreciation your effort in this video.. I was terribly stuck in my research .. Thank you!
hi, do you know the name of the method of analysis?
@@nekibilal yes, it's called ranking .. in this method you request you respondents to arrange the options you gave them for questions for example from the most important to the least or vice versa
Let's say .. how does family influence your career choice? (Rank from 1 to 3 ,, 1 is the most important , 3 is the least important)
You give them the following options
• By their advices
• you follow your parents footsteps in choosing career
• they obligate you to choose a specific career
Now your respondents must arrange these options according to their opinions
For example
• By their advices ( 2 )
• you follow your parents footsteps in choosing career ( 1 )
• they obligate you to choose a specific career (3 )
Now you analyze you results of all the respondents as it is clarified in the video
Wish it was useful for you :)
@@DiNa-bx4yj Thank You very much Dina,
can I just ask did you use this method for a research paper/ university dissertation?
if so, how did you describe it in the methodology?
thanks again!
@@nekibilal well, cuz it's my first research paper for bachelor degree, it's my first trial for analising, so I'm not sure if it's the right way or not. I didn't discuss it yet with my teacher, but i'll tell you how
My ranking was from 1 - 5 . So i took the first 2 of the most important options, and 2 of the least important options.. i metioned them in 2 statement .. one for most and another for least
Then i analyzed each one of them separately. I discuss them by giving more details about what are the reasons of choosing this option. the details are from what i guess and observe inside the environment which I make the study in.
@@nekibilal Hi, You can use this method for descriptive analysis. For hypothesis testing, you need to use any statistical method.
Thanks 🙏

This is extremely helpful for analysis for my master thesis ranking health factor data. One question: I need to understand why you did the formula that included a reverse multiplication (in my case =C3*9+D3*8+E3*7+F3*6+G3*5+H3*4+I3*3+J3*2+K3*1) - there were nine factors to rank. I just don't understand the function and will likely have to explain this in my defense. Thank you so much!
the numbers represents the weightage. In my video there are 5 ranks. So it assign 5 points to first rank, 4 points of second rank ... so on...
@@edifo I think I understand. Thanks!
worked beautifully. How would the methodology work if several (say 4) of the 40 respondents only ranked their first three choices? Would you ignore those 4 completely? Would you rank the rest of their choices as 0? Mathmetically the latter can be done, but how does it skew the analysis, if at all?
Normally it need to ignore that 4 respondence.
Hello, I followed the steps, but mine didn't work. How can I contact you to show you my Excel table maybe you can figure out where my error is?
Hello! What is your reference for this point system? Because I need it for our thesis paper. It would be great and a big help if you'd reply, thank you.
Hi, did you ever find what the method was called? I also need it for a report, thank you!
What is the title for the y-axis?
Hi sir, I love your video @edifo
Could you please advise us on what would we do in cases:
Case 1. Choosing some items from the list, then ranking them all (so the list for ranking/ person might have 4 or 8 or even 1 item out of 10 items in the question).
Case 2. Limited ranking, the choice list has 10 items but only ranking fixed 5 items.
Looking forward to your reply. Thank you so much ☺
It need to rank all the items in a ranking question. Otherwise it it meaningless.
Thank you for this useful video. Can you tell me how to report the result? in percentage, if so how? or what might be the possible ways ?
This is a descriptive analysis. so you can plot that graph in your research/project and describe the findings, that's it. no thumb of rule for presenting data in descriptive analysis. Normally we are using the percentages in reports.
thank you....
@@edifo How do you explain these figures though... you go from a sample of 40 to three figures - how can one explain this - how do you label the axis?
Hi! can I ask what type of analysis is this one??? we have to indicate it in our methodologu.
It's a descriptive analysis.
Hello Sir, can you please tell me what the formula (=C4*5+D4*4+E4*3+F4*3+G4*1) stands for? the weighting?
This is the process of assigning weightage. Assign 5 to top rank, 4 to next rank line .....
can i ask where did u get the 153? it is total of what po?
1st Rank x 5 + 2nd Rank x 4 ...... 5th Rank x 1
Thank you, just done this. How do you then explain what you just did? whats it called when you had to multiply the results?
Most Welcome. Subscribe this channel for more videos.
He's weighting the answers
@@alexandermay4796 Can you please elaborate? This is the only negative about this video - great method but i know my supervisor would ask how i came up with these figures.
Why do you have to multiply the frequency data by 5 to 1 and what does the y axis indicate?
He's weighting the answers, since Rank 1 is seen as most positive rank he multiplies it by 5 and so on
can you tell me what's the formula?
Hello,
What if you had to examine how this varies with a categorical variable (ex: age) using a pivot table
For that you need to apply statistical test, if you want to prove a hypothesis.
Hello Sir! Can I ask if how can I convert the weighted scores into percentage of the respondents? Thank you!
Its very easy. There is a percentage icon in excel, just press that icon after selecting the figure.
hi! what do you formally call or the general term for the data on that column (total)? (2)
Please, Can't get you.
Total score
Can you tell me how to change the values in percentage???
You can easily convert it into percentage in excel.
How to find out the frequencies like median, s.d of the likert scale data by splitting overall likert questions into some groups and find the frquencies of each group...as like.. this group median is ...and s.d is......i am only able to find the individual frequencies but not the group ..hope u understand my question and help me.
Excel functions are available for calculating these statistics.
Do you have any reference book on what method is used?
No.
From multiple sources.
If total come wrong how can we check it
Hi, this might be a silly question. I am unsure why you end up doing the total and what it represents? I understand that it means that "x" was ranked 1st, "y" 2nd, and "x" 3d, but I don't understand what the total represents? Also I don't understand why we assigned weight to the variables
Ranking is all about weighting. First rank hold more weightage than second rank.
If it is age base respondent analysis
Good day Sir
This really helped me with my thesis but the question I have now is in representing it by tabulation, how will you name the weighted mark
You can assign weightage according to your question.
Did you sort this? I had the same question.
Why the ranking is not in order?
How can we Interpret and explain this graph ?
You can interpret the result on the basis of graphs as well as the data table. That depends on the situation.
your video is good but irritating when you dnt show the top icon like the merge
hello good sir, what reference or method you used? for the sake of reference sir, 🙏
From multiple readings......
Score in axis are higher as the total number is 40 .....would you mind to explain ...how can we explain the result
As the total number of respondence is 40. So you will not get a figure more than 40 in ranks.
How about if the strands/rank is more than 5?
I would like to know that as well...
Use the same method, by assigning higher ranks.

What is the name of the analysis method??
This is the Ranking scale Questionnaire. Normally we can use it for ordinal scale. Visit bit.ly/3atkHgH for more details
What do you call this kind of analysis? ex: one way anova, post hoc?
This is just a descriptive analysis using ranking scale data.
Hello, thank you for your video, it's very useful. However, could you provide any literature backing up this information? I want to include this in my paper.
Most welcome....
There is no need for a literature review for this model. This is a very common method for descriptive statistics for ranking scale data.
Helpful video although how is this explained in methodology?
That depend on your research objecgives.
Edifo Again, answers are way to vague. Respectfully, plse give me one way of explaining this in the methodology, regardless of my research questions.
@@tashizzle2004 Hi,
First of all, you try to understand that, regardless of a research question, we cannot explain the methodology. Researchers are developing a methodology on the basis of the research problem/research question. Try to understand the difference between a method and a methodology. Explain what is your research question/problem, then only I can help you. This is just a tool.

Why we should multiply 5 to the value of rank 1, and 4 to the value of rank 2 and so on? Please instruct me.... we have presentation tomorrow.
