Following this video as a guide for an installation, could cost you greatly. As many of us on the Ranger5g forum have discovered, you run the risk of separating the outer CV joint from the CV axle if you do it this way. Stage 3 Motorsports should advise people to remove the axle nut on each side and tap the axle loose as you push down on the LCA. It can make the difference in it being a 1 hour install per side to being a nightmare, re-assembling your CV shaft or worse, having it towed to a shop. STAGE 3 MOTORSPORTS, PLEASE AMEND THIS VIDEO TO INCLUDE SUCH INFO.
Loved the video and it helped me prepare for the job. HOWEVER!!!!! Others with the 4X4 please be aware that doing it this way will very likely end up dislocating the inner or outer CV joint. Reinserting the joint is a PITA! Remove the CV axle nut and be sure the axle moves freely in the hub before you pull on the spindle to remove the strut. Ask me how I know.
No way! I bought spacers, and there is so much tension on the strut that even if I sat on the rotor, I couldn’t get the strut to wiggle enough to get it out and I gave up. Upon reassembly, the cv shaft pulled out and mis-aligned and it took me a few hours to get it back in. The only way we could get it back in place was to fully remove the sway bar. This job is way harder than you guys made it look. I wish it was this easy. What a nightmare!
We do our best to be as realistic as possible with these installs, they're not all easy, sorry to hear you had a hard time Justin, have you gotten the spacers installed since your attempt?
This video just cost me $1k and parts are on national backorder for over a month . The drivers side was being difficult so I came back in to re-watch the video and started reading the comments . The right side went super easy after taking the axle nut off first . Why Stage 3 doesn't state to do that very simple step or take this video down is beyond me . I should have read the comment section 1st !
Cannot beat this new Gen Ranger all around. Love my '19 XLT FX4 an I'm at 3yr pt. The Fox 2.0 kit i installed recently just made a really good truck great! Add a Roush tune & maybe cat bk performance exhaust & it flat our rips. Smooth & fast!
I got some Atturo Trailblades x/t tires size LT285/70R17. It was the biggest BDS recomended to get with the lift. I kept the factory trims cause I actually really like them. And the kit came with some new upper control arms from BDS. So they got you covered.
I would recommend to undo the axle nut and push the axle out of the hub so you don't end up separating the inboard joint when you push down on the control arm.
Yes, definitely remove the axle nut and push the shaft out of the hub. That way you won’t ruin your CV axle like I did. Passenger side took less than an hour by doing it the proper way.
@ Nanaimo Steve I'm not quite sure. It's the upper rubber boot of the cv axle. Feels like something came unseated and won't let the lower control arm or the knuckle back in the proper place.
@@jamesmoore6843 if you squeeze and feel the inboard cv boot you will feel a tripod with rollers on it. you should be able to gently position them to go back into the cup as at the same time you push the knuckle inwards. I recently tried having this kit installed on my 2019 Ranger FX4, but my shop ran into a problem with the tension during installation which resulted in a bent strut...I'm being compensated, but it's been an incredible waste of time...I'm now forking out extra money for the Fox Coilovers which is what I should have done to begin with...

Well you definitely don't need to do anything more than take the top loose and pull the LCA down far enough that it pops out. I've already stated before that their video is wrong. Many of us had issues with breakage following their instructions
@@marbledmeatshop day star direction says only control arm drop and remove bottom strut bolts before installing strut with spacer on it. Then reinstall strut bolts.
Whats the point of a leveling kit? Does it level the truck bed even with the front end? It sits so much higher in the rear than in the front. Only thing I don't like about my truck!
Watching this cost me an additional $1,485.00 at the FoRd Dealership … drive shafts came out on both sides and were not seated back in either hub on the left or right (which you can’t see because of the dust covers) and broke both drive shafts. Thanks, have not seen this leveling kit yet. But I'm impressed that it is a shock too for frt and back. Everyone complains the shocks were too soft OEM How much does this kit help on the approach angle and breakover? Why did you use this type of 2 inch kit over the one piece kit? Because of the better shocks?
The FX4 package does offer a nice on rd feel w/lite off rd capabilities. Yea they are tuned to the plush side but Ford wants you to have a comfortable truck & they succeeded.
I believe it does but ford performance does offer a 2 in leveling kit for rangers and f150. At least they did. I haven’t heard too much about it recently. And since they offer the leveling kit, it would be covered under warranty if they install it
I have a 2019 Ranger. Would you suggest just a 2 inch leveling kit for the front end to make it level, or 2 and half inch? Also after install would you suggest a alignment of the tires?
i purchased rough country n3s for the rear on my 20 ranger , they squeeked like crazy from metal on metal touching bad design. put stock fx4 back on no squeek . contacted Rough country and they said nothing ! stay away !
I have installed a 2.5" leveling kit on mine and I have a "clicking" noise periodically as I go over bumps or turn left and right. Any idea where to look would be greatly appreciated. Love the channel.
Have the same noise when go over bumps but mine has only 1 inch.. i think might be the sway bar that touches the lower arm but dont know.. anyone can tell if its normal?? Or can help?
@@fabriziocostas thanks man. I also have added 1 1/4" spacers and there it feels like worn ball joints on warm days going over bumps and cracks. Cooler days its not noticeable. True, thats what I was thinking, but that only applies to 4 wheel drive models.
100% true...see my post...
Yep!!!! That's exactly what happened to me except it was the inner cv joint that separated.
