V Anastasia it takes a special kind of mind to figure out that the inner ring is supposed to stay in place in order for the pump to untwist and start functioning.

You sir are a GENIUS!!!!! Please note that if you have been messing with the bottle and have taken the pump apart like I did (a bunch of times)...then the inside of the pump must be lined up with the slots on the bottle cap...and then this works like a charm. A million times thank you!
There are no sounds to alert you opened it, so I kept spinning thinking I wasn’t having luck but ... it was open already. At least now I can use it the way it’s supposed to! Thank you for this!

Ok so turn the top part until it tightens - hold down the plastic ring if you need to. When it gets tight, turn it 45 degrees until it could pump downward.

here's another trick which i used applying the logic from this video: take some medical / normal tape, wrap it around the bottom and twist or pull till it opens. mine only took like 2 seconds of twisting to open after I used this trick

Just bought this product. Something is wrong when you have to get out a clamp wrench to open a drugstore bottle . The clamp wrench held the little ring in place so I could turn the spout against it and finally that worked. Easier than a trip back to the store. But pathetic that they've had at least three years (since this witty video came out) to fix this glaring design flaw and they haven't

The inner ring spins. Use the plastic wrap to stop it from moving. Put it on the ring, hold it down with your fingers and open the bottle.
