I now understand why there's a disclaimer at the beginning of this talk. I'm a little wary of connecting Autism with a mother's negative state of mind. We need more studies and information to make this connection.
Being hungry or exposed to stress or abuse during this time can have a lifelong effect on a child's development. An unsafe or unhealthy environment in the first 1,000 days can affect a child's physical health in later life too.
I wish we paid attention to more studies like this, I feel like we are taking less time and care into the facilitation of life these days and it is SHOWING.
Now that my kids have grown, this talk makes me reflect on those early days. The sleepless nights, the lullabies, and the laughter. It's a reminder of the incredible responsibility and joy of shaping a human being.
"Network Wellness" this is a very powerful and intelligent overview that allows a lot of beliefs in. This is worth sharing and I am surprised this hasn't been seen by many more people.
I saw this talk years ago when my daughter was pregnant and passed it on to her, I actually think there might be something to it because she took it very seriously and her son is the happiest ray of sunshine you've ever seen
Recently I've read Françoise Dolto and was amazed by a fact that babies can understand everything! And now the breakthrough, babies understand everything in wombs!
I'm excited to take my baby on nature adventures during those early days. Fresh air, birdsong, and a touch of sunshine-because a healthy environment isn't just indoors.
"The brain and our nervous system is sensitive to all our emotions." That pretty much sums it up for me and why so many people are just living numb. Thats what you have to do when life is laid out for you.
I had a very traumatic time during pregnancy with events that were entirely out of my control. Watching this just makes me fret about the impact of this on my child and their future and lost as I can’t undo any of it
I'm feeling so lucky hearing all this, my partner makes enough for me to not have to work and I've been so excited for all the DIY opportunities. I can't wait to build a tiny library, crib mobile, paint murals... all the things for my bubba to have a perfect environment 🥰🥰
Each kick, every bedtime story-it's incredible to think that these moments sculpt a future. Glad to be aware of this and for the chance to be a sculptor in my child's journey.
Those first 1000 days are like planting seeds for a lifetime garden. Proud to say my little one's garden is thriving-laughter, love, and lots of lullabies
The connectome's role in our emotions and social relationships struck a chord. It's a reminder of the importance of fostering connections and creating a nurturing environment for our children.
I have friends who got married and were always fighting then had kids to try and bring themselves together. It never worked and the kids always have issues. Like many others here this should be mandatory viewing for people who want children.
With the amount of children we have in foster homes these days I can only imagine how helpful it would be to understand the complexity of all this for future adoptive parents - could really help with holistic approaches in healthcare for these kids.
I love what he says about the magic of a hug, I've always thought touch was something people craves and it's really cool to hear that yes, that is a thing!
Touch is such a powerful thing. I have no doubt that the isolation and social distancing that many experienced over the past 2 years which has reduced our human connectiveness has had a huge psychological impact. And watching this, I wonder how it impacted expectant mothers and their children.
Planning to introduce my little one to the wonders of nature from day one. Fresh air, greenery, and tiny footsteps-because growth happens outdoors too!!
The mention of how even storytelling to the baby in the womb can have positive effects was so heartwarming. It’s kind of wonderful how these small actions matter.
The talk reinforces the importance of our environment-air, water, food. Time to make conscious choices for a healthier planet and, by extension, a healthier first 1000 days for our little ones.
I've got grandkids now and this talk makes me think about the generational impact of our actions. It's great to see how the focus on early development has evolved over the years because there wasn't that much of it when had kids that's for sure
Thank you Fred! I was amazed too, but this happens very often when you try to translate edge science into practice for lay public. It’s also one of the reasons why prevention has always been neglected. If I simplify my talk, the message is that lifestyles and behaviors impact most upon our health and well-being, especially if you start even before conception. Simple to be understood, especially if we start teaching it in school! Best! SP
The concept of the first 1000 days shaping our future is empowering. It's a reminder that every little action counts, from the music we play to the hugs we give. Here's to positive vibes and healthy beginnings!
As a dad, I vividly remember the excitement and nerves during my partner's pregnancy. This talk brings back memories of reading stories to the bump and playing music. Those were special times.
One of the most impactful talks I have ever seen, here is the truth, it shouldn't just be the first days, this should be a life long ambition to treat everyone kindly and with respect and emapthy.
Thinking about this stuff makes my heart ache for all those babies who spend the first 18 months or so in orphanages just... never being held or cherished. I can't imagine how that impacts the psyche as they grow up.
As someone who wanted to do everything to support their partners pregnancy I have to say this is absolutely it. Massages, lullabies, anything she wanted to eat... being active in that support role really mattered to her and I could tell the better I got at it the more at ease and confident she was as well. Our baby is so happy and healthy now and I think that's a pretty good reflection.
As an 80s baby who was conceive, grew, born and raised in the culture of that era, I am grateful that we have learnt so much more about pregnancy and there are talks like this readily available for new parents. The damage to my well being, not because of poor parenting but because of lack of understanding at the time, has impacted my life horribly.
There is such important information in this talk, I can't believe this isn't more widely known about. Truly this needs to become part of the standard knowledge for pregnant women
It’s impressive to see how much research is going into understanding the first 1,000 days of life. Hopefully, it leads to better health outcomes for future generations.
This whole talk was such a vote of confidence for me. Planning to create a harmonious environment for our little one with music, stories, and all the love we can muster.
I totally agree with this man. I've worked in child care for a long time and you can see the difference in the infants and toddlers whose parents clearly put in the time and effort before birth and after... However, I have noticed in my years that those who have had the best start pretty much directly correlates with higher socioeconomic backgrounds... So I wonder, with wages continuing to stay stagnant and the like - how are we meant to make sure the majority are given the opportunity to bring children into this world with the best possible start, when society makes it near impossible...
As a new mom, this talk resonates deeply. Every kick, every lullaby-it all feels like the building blocks of a beautiful journey. Excited to shape my tiny human's world in the best possible way.
This makes me think about the role our environment plays in shaping our health. Not just the impact of those around us but the very air we breathe and water we drink.
Sergio's emphasis on touch and connection is heartwarming. The idea that a simple touch or hug can trigger a hormonal response that shapes our relationships and well-being is a beautiful reminder of the importance of human connection. 🤗💜
The part about emotions during pregnancy hitting small RNA got me. We should be more mindful of our feelings, not just for our well-being but for the little ones we're shaping. A touch or a hug-simple yet powerful.
Reflecting on my time as a single dad during those early years. It wasn't always easy, but knowing that those moments shaped my child's future health and well-being makes it all worthwhile. They turned out amazingly and I'm so proud.
Thank you Stan. You are right. We should pay much more attention to the environment that surrounds us and that influence so much our health through epigenetics.
I can't believe this has been flagged with a disclaimer. Everything he is saying is true! What a good human to be dedicating his time to educating about this topic. Who knows how healthy humans could be if we adhered!
The ‘network wellness’ he explains is something that was much needed when the world went into lockdown and isolation. So many needs not met, but this shows there are other ways to maintain wellbeing through other means and balance out the loss of connection and touch.
The research that highlights how critical early life interventions can be was really interesting. It’s intriguing to consider the potential for positive change through understanding the environmental impacts during the first 1000 days.
Learning about the interplay between prenatal experiences and gene expression makes me appreciate the importance of promoting a nurturing and supportive environment for pregnant women. It truly sets the foundation for a healthier society.
Currently expecting, and this talk is both fascinating and reassuring. Planning to start the daily music ritual for my little one. The idea that these moments impact their future is both thrilling and a bit overwhelming!
The education of the emotion, how far we have come in understanding how this impacts the development of a child and the journey through life. Such a good talk.
Wow. Just... wow. There are so many mysteries within the process of our lives.
Indeed, it's important to be open to new experiences and opportunities.
What a great talk on the impact of the environment on early life! Thank you for sharing your research, Dr. Pecorelli.
Your achievements and awards are truly impressive, Dr. Pecorelli. Keep up the great work!
This talk really highlights the importance of a healthy environment during early development.
Your commitment to improving public health and preventing female cancers is truly inspiring.
I now understand why there's a disclaimer at the beginning of this talk. I'm a little wary of connecting Autism with a mother's negative state of mind. We need more studies and information to make this connection.
I agree with you on this one, well said man
one step at a time
I am looking forward to more of these studies if it ever happens
Being hungry or exposed to stress or abuse during this time can have a lifelong effect on a child's development. An unsafe or unhealthy environment in the first 1,000 days can affect a child's physical health in later life too.
good thing there was a disclaimer
I wish we paid attention to more studies like this, I feel like we are taking less time and care into the facilitation of life these days and it is SHOWING.
Agreed. If it isn't profitable, we don't notice it or spread the message
Now that my kids have grown, this talk makes me reflect on those early days. The sleepless nights, the lullabies, and the laughter. It's a reminder of the incredible responsibility and joy of shaping a human being.
Why are we not shown this during our school years? seems so important.
"Network Wellness" this is a very powerful and intelligent overview that allows a lot of beliefs in. This is worth sharing and I am surprised this hasn't been seen by many more people.
Thanks for sending it to me Alex, took me forever to watch it, but so good!
Agreed! I'll be sharing this with some friends of mine that are currently studying psychology.
brilliant!
i reckon! this is such important stuff!
as am I?
I saw this talk years ago when my daughter was pregnant and passed it on to her, I actually think there might be something to it because she took it very seriously and her son is the happiest ray of sunshine you've ever seen
the guilt i have always felt for not giving my children the best start. i will show them this so they can do better
Show them and you can heal the next generation too :)
Recently I've read Françoise Dolto and was amazed by a fact that babies can understand everything! And now the breakthrough, babies understand everything in wombs!
sponges from conception it would seem.
I'm excited to take my baby on nature adventures during those early days. Fresh air, birdsong, and a touch of sunshine-because a healthy environment isn't just indoors.
Why is this flagged with a disclaimer, he's not giving bad advice - and for goodness sakes look at this mans credentials??? Good talk worth sharing!!!
seriously crazy, TED has a lot flagged these days for no reason I can see, they must think we are idiots.
@@juanlsalazar well, are we? sorry haha couldnt help myself..
it is an amazing talk.
One of the best talks I have seen!

Health is so much more than what our physical bodies are doing and honestly I think that our physical condition really mirrors our spiritual.
This talk really makes you think about how important it is to support pregnant women in every way possible. Such valuable information!
I’ve always loved music, and now knowing it can help my wife during her pregnancy just adds another reason to enjoy it.
I love this so much and I feel like some cultures inherently know this stuff already - you can see it from the way they treat their pregnant women.
"The brain and our nervous system is sensitive to all our emotions." That pretty much sums it up for me and why so many people are just living numb. Thats what you have to do when life is laid out for you.
I had a very traumatic time during pregnancy with events that were entirely out of my control. Watching this just makes me fret about the impact of this on my child and their future and lost as I can’t undo any of it
Same. Also out of my control.
If you are thinking of having children, then this is a must watch!!!
My heart goes out to all the babies growing up in war zones or refuge camps surrounded by so much trauma and noise.
This talk really made me think about how every little thing we do during pregnancy matters. It’s a bit overwhelming but also empowering.
Such truth in the connection between the inner world of mother, child and birth.
It’s a lot of pressure to think that everything I do while pregnant could have such significant effects...
I'm feeling so lucky hearing all this, my partner makes enough for me to not have to work and I've been so excited for all the DIY opportunities. I can't wait to build a tiny library, crib mobile, paint murals... all the things for my bubba to have a perfect environment 🥰🥰
The talk resonates-every word, every melody, shaping a lifetime. It's a daily commitment to creating the optimal conditions for my kid to thrive!
The part about the parasympathetic nervous system and how simple things like a massage can affect it was really cool. Shows the power of relaxation.
This makes me reflect on my time as a young mother and I feel super grateful for all the love and support I received at that time.
I was amazed to learn that a mother's stress and anxiety can have such long-term effects on a child's health. Definitely something to be mindful of.
The connectome's role in our emotions and social relationships struck a chord. It's a reminder of the importance of fostering connections and creating a nurturing environment for our children.
AND... this should be taught in every school in America!
I remember playing music to my baby bump, and now I'm glad to know it may have contributed to a lower risk of autism. Music truly is powerful.
He actually makes so much sense in terms of talking about how much more sensitive we are when we're younger.
I have friends who got married and were always fighting then had kids to try and bring themselves together. It never worked and the kids always have issues. Like many others here this should be mandatory viewing for people who want children.
Sadly I have seen this so many times :(
'the environment of emotions' is a term I very much look forward to spreading.
Profound and important!
Touch shapes the way! When you think of all the things that bring us together, its usually through emotion and touch.
I fully agree with you. Thank you

It's amazing to think how the simple act of touch, like a hug, can have such a profound impact on our hormonal response and social connections.

Only one word for this talk ::: 'AWESOME' Every parent to be needs this talk!!!
so very true!
My children get a little "oh mum" with me when I tell them what miracles they are. Life is a miracle which often comes with generational trauma.

Hearing about the importance of early life for preventing diseases later on really changes how I think about health.
The emphasis on epigenetics and environmental factors offers a profound understanding of developmental health that I'm very grateful to have found.
This really does explain what happened to many people I know.

Touch is essential in human well-being. So many of us realised how important it is while we were locked down.
