How I built the official lots in The Sims 4 Snowy Escape!

- I partnered with Maxis to build 3 lots that are coming with the new world in The Sims 4 Snowy Escape Expansion Pack... this is how it happened!

as a japanese person, seeing these builds that looked accurate and beautiful was so reassuring! I was so worried that ea would bungle them :/
these build are gorgeous.. i don't like the modern ones as much but i prefer more old style in general.. (i prefer warmer tones over white and black thing beige's and browns maybe some greener tones) compared to the lots in the other packs this world is actually one i'm exited to play in because of the lots as these lots actually seem fun and playable and won't bore me as quickly as the EA lots.. even in the sims 3 i prefer just building my own lot.. as opposed to using one of the prebuild ones as the ones i build are always a lot better than the empty looking out of place EA ones..

@dr103 well I mean I'm sure there are different teams like those who make the environment and those who actually make the builds but there's no excuse for lack of inspiration or it being terrible when there are perfect examples scattered in the background of every world.

it would be amazing if EA continued with this idea of calling on the creators to make the lots for the next expansions packs and even more incredible if they call new ones everytime giving more credit and recognition to the community
I agree. I as well hope that don't keep using the same four ( as talented as they are) as there are so many great creators in this community.
It would be even cooler if the simmers they got knew anything about the culture before starting the project lol

Yes! As a fellow Canadian I was thinking the same thing! xD. I always think about that when roofing in game too haha. Where in Canada do you live? I'm from Ontario, but living in Newfoundland.
Yeah and if it melts, it isn’t forced to flow off the roof. Sounds like water damage and mouldy roof.

@Turquoise Cheetah there’s drains on the roof that take the melted snow down to the ground level.

When I heard that James and the others had helped with the next expansion I assumed it was for the lots, even when seeing them in the trailer they looked so amazing compared to the normal ea lots. So happy and congrats about it :D

I like that the terrain matches the color of the house. I honestly thought that was intentional so it would look like the house was just part of the landscape.
This makes me even more excited for Snowy Escape!!!
They need to do this for every new world.
Thank you so much for taking the time to go through the evolution of your starter home build! I’m a huge fan of behind the scenes looks and seeing the “how it was done” of things. I can’t wait to get to explore the homes and depth and the fact that they had actual sims players help with the buildings just adds another pro to this pack and hopefully is only the beginning. The more they let simmers help, the better I believe the packs will be!
I really hope all the four builders start renovating each others builds and adding their own touches. It's the build wars.

I’m so happy the sims team decided to do this ! Not only does this allow us to have builds by some of our favourite creators but also means ea doesn’t get to put any weird wall lights in rooms as the only light :D
Not even a minute has gone by yet and I'm SCREAMING YES YES YES at hearing they finally let real builders make lots for a new pack 😄.
Cuz we don't need another home lot missing a toilet, or have steps that lead to no door, lol 😉
That 2 story idea tho looked good. Just give the corners a bit of a curve.
*🤔 It'd be neat to have a windowsill attachment build item, of which we could add floral decor or framed pictures to. We already have flower boxes for outside of windows, but adding an indoor windowsill might work, especially since we can freely move objects and shrink things. Candles on the windowsill, plant jars (even little cacti in a jar is a great look on a windowsill).
I can't wait for when lilsimsie renovates this.. :D

When I got this pack I was attracted to this simple build. I even made my sims parents and moved them into this home. It's perfect for an elderly couple. That was before I even knew of James Turner or of this video. JT is a GOAT.
I'm so happy they teamed up with builders to create the lots. It'll be so nice to start out with lots I don't feel like I need to get rid of or change massively. Also, I knew this was one of your builds when I saw the map yesterday.
This is so cool. I love seeing the behind the scenes or the making of this. I can't even imagine how exciting this was and a dream come true. Looking forward to seeing the other builds you did 🙂
So we all know the builds look amazing, but we aren't talking about my concern.. Did our lovely simmers get compensated for their time? And I don't mean getting early access, I mean did they get paid for their work? And how much were they paid?
@Turquoise Cheetah I think it would be rather exploitative if they weren't paid. I don't care about learning how much but I do want to be reassured that they weren't taken advantage of.

I am BEYOND happy that you guys got to build these, it's so cool that you were given this opportunity. And the lots won't look like the saddest houses ever built as well, which is an obvious bonus. I really love this build by the way, it's such a quintessential starter home.
This is so cool! I really hope they paid you for your time building the lots. They shouldn't be saving money on paying devs (who I'm sure are rushed and over-worked) to build the lots by getting youtubers to build them for free and better quality.
I’m so happy for you and the other simmers, but if you get a chance to do this again and the pack represents another culture maybe try to give the opportunity to a simmer from the same culture. I’m still very proud of all of y’all though! 💕
They didn’t know this while accepting the opportunity though, if I understand James correctly. They weren’t told about the pack until after they accepted the chance to help out.
@@ilsevdk6457 that’s true! I’m just saying if they get the chance again maybe they can try early on to ask those questions in case they can lift another simmer up.

First of all, the snowy resort and Japanese oriented expansion sound very exciting to me!!!
As a Japanese regionalist, historian and interpreter by profession you can’t even imagine how thrilled I am for this new expansion to come out!
Secondly... Wow just wow!
I know it might sound insane and extremely cheesy like a lame attempt to flatter you but the funniest coincidence is I’ve been watching all four of you guys for years now and I love you so much! Your team is always brilliant coming up with the huge pool of ideas, inspiring lots and lots of Simmers for ideas for building the houses and always helping challenging ourselves for new ideas!
I have been smiling like an idiot during all this video still hardly believing in the fact that the pioneers of Sims building like you James, Deli, lilsimsie and simlicy have worked altogether on this new expansion!❤️
It feels like somebody put Christmas, Halloween, St. Valentine’s Day and Thanksgiving day in some magic blender, mixed it all together and voila! the most fantastic ever possible magic happened!!!
It’s the biggest present EA could give to us during this um... hard year of 2020, not only making a great expansion but asking your team to unite and build entirely everything for this project!
It was an awesome idea from EA to come up with! That’s for sure!

Interesting, but I can'r understand why EA didn't ask Amitaliri"FreezerBunny" for some building. He's a very good buildir bat also very familiar with Japanese history and . architecture. No offence, you are also good builders. :)
Yess No offense to James and the other builders but as a anime lover I’m super excited for this pack. But I’ve been watching all their videos and most of them don’t seem to know basic things about Japanese architecture eg- genkans,unit bathrooms, onsens etc
But they still did a great job 👏
Yes! As soon as I heard the cultural inspiration & who they partnered with I immediately thought that Freezer Bunny should have been included since they have so much knowledge of japanese architecture. Why didn't they partner with any Asian creators for this pack?!? Pair this with the skin tone debacle, & it's just glaringly obvious they need some serious social justice training for the team.
Maybe because he isn't as much recognized as these others simmers (?) 🤷
@@miniidurao4843 And that’s exactly what’s wrong with the Sims community. Everyone is so click”ish” and not allowing room for smaller youtubers or just being selective to certain ones. His build is decent but expected and honestly, I would’ve preferred a build that actually meshed better with the other houses in the area. The exterior of the build is bland in my opinion and none of the new roof styles (excluding the foundation tool) or wallpaper was used similarly to the other houses in the area.

I think it was a great idea to get pro builders to build the lots for this pack. I just wish they would revisit every pack released before and redo all the lots. I'm sure James, Lilsimsie and co. would agree to that and it'll be a great way to have a "fixed" version of the worlds from the get go (instead of having to painstakingly fix them everytime we start a new game).
I'm so happy for you guys and so happy EA finally gives simmers to be more involved with the game creating itself, it's such an improvement and it wouldn't have happened without you creating such an amazing community on YT.

I love how this is only possible because Simproved got a lot she built on sparked end up in Eco Lifestyle (the one with the crane) 😆. The partnership between Game Changers and EA is something the community has been screaming for. Took 6 years, but I'm guessing this is going to be TS4's highest grossing EP. Why? Because OUR game changers that WE chose to support because THEIR builds are amazing built it. Can't believe it took EA so long to take advantage of FREE labor. Keep the paid staff working on making the game run well, and use your game changers working on the astetics.
This video made me so happy, especially after the star wars drama with ea. Just made me happy that they asked them to build lots.... so we can have good buildings and not ea's lack luster builds

I had just FINISHED building a full Japanese game of my own before the surprise announcement, and look forward to redoing it with the new, and wonderfully accurate, objects...

Why did they make the ground around your starter home dead? It makes your build look like a bleak, lifeless beige block. It really doesn’t look at home with everything else in the neighborhood
I loveeee the style of this pack and the new world so much!! The game changers building the lots make it look even more aesthetically pleasing 😌
the modern James house is like the Japanese MUJI house xD . And i rly looove the MUJI brand brand. And it really fits with Japanese style because they like to keep things simple (because of their Kanso principle: simplicity and elimination of clutter) and with muted colors and use negative space.

You probably dont konw that because you are from Australia but flat roves and snow don't go very well together ... . Not a great choice for an expansion which is called Snowy Escape! But a great looking house!
