It seems to be a great improvement over a regular W206. Really curious what driving experience does it bring and whether this i4 engine can keep up with M340i’s B58.
@@kunalmore5212 not always....but where BMW a lot of the time get them is in the weight. often being between 100 to 200 kgs lighter, and that helps a lot. we actually did some checks on a dragstrip to see the difference, and well, it does show, especially there. timeslips dont lie. oh, same driver to even out the data. nd yes, he was an experienced track/drag driver too.
Yeah and I can't understand how someone which owns a G63 and several Black Series AMG, can say that this one is more AMG than its predecessor. I don't give a straight if the engine is built by one guy at AMG or is a mass produced one. I want a 6 pot engine. On M cars you also don't get the signature of the mechanic on the engine but they are still outperforming the competition.
We quite literally thought the same! How can someone who owns a G63 AMG a GT Black Series and who owned several proper AMG's in the past, say that this is 10 times the better AMG than it's predecessor?
With the regular C300 in its highest trim creeping up above $55,000 with just a few options, this C43 will likely cost more than its main competitor, the M340, and be closer to the base M3 (G80) in its price. Not sure if this 4-pot, half-baked AMG will be able to compete against the full-blown M.
In Slovakia fully loaded C43 is 115k euros.Fully loaded M3 Comp is 130k with carbon seats, ceramic break etc.I think it's completly mental how much they want for this and I don't even want to think how much will C63 be
This might be the sweet spot of the W206 AMGs, as the next C63 is reported to weigh just over 2000kgs (with the same E-Performance P3 hybrid unit like the GT 4 door), so the C43 might actually feel better through the corners and it's still responsive and powerful enough to have loads of fun. Just a shame about the sound.
@@Danniboy344 that is something a lot of people dont seem to get, its not Mercedes fault that the sounds and engine sizes have changed. yes they could go the BMW route too, but i think they prefer playing it safe than sorry. also mostly their EU standards are aimed further up the line than their competition is. in other words they dont have to do changes as soon as the others when green specs changes, they already comply, which a lot of the other guys dont. yeah a few years only, but they have to spend less on development then too. who knows...
It's either this or the new LCI BMW M340i as my next car... I just can't look past the 4 cyl engine in this, yes its as powerful as the 6 cyl in the M340i, but I bet its not as quick, plus Mercedes build quality isn't as good as BMW at the moment
I'm kind of disappointed in the exterior changes except for the grille, it does look more aggressive and meaner and I like it. However the overall design of the exterior just looks like it's been downgraded imho, it will probably grow on me though. The interior and the whole technology behind it, AMAZING.

Great video as always and Glad you have nice things to say about this one, it is a nice looking car but signature or not id still take the predecessor over this. Really hate the new dash being gloss and looking like an entertainment device instead of a driver instrument 😢
Great video! When you do driving impressions, can you comment on how the turbo lag is mitigated with the electric turbo? Would the car react as quick as a naturally aspirated car, except with the turbo benefits of torque down low? And I wonder if existing cars with the M139 engine could be reworked aftermarket to include the electric turbo.
Ok, many people hate the 2.0 4 banger, but for me being in Belgium, I honestly get excited about this new c43. Big v8s or even a v6 etc are so expensive in taxes, especially for the regular working person. So the 2.0 is very welcome imo.
That motor that drives the turbo has a trick feature. When not in use it can generate up to 4Kw that recharges the battery driven by the exhaust gases.
What we wanted in the next gen c43: A less jerky first gear, No MBUX, too much glare, “new” aka old in a couple years technology ages cars badly 4matic + V6 Engine Race Mode + Drift Mode Am I missing anything?
More physical buttons, less iPad touchscreens! An inline-6 would have been ok too! Maybe some real exhaust tips? How about not reverting to comfort mode when you turn off the car? Launch control?

Looks like the sweet spot of the line. I thought the c200 looked good but this is a whole new level, and it looks really smart. I still think they should have stopped the line here though, and end the line of the C63 without ruining its V8 heritage. But for a daily? I would 100% drive this.
@@LRS7B cylinders and displacement aren’t everything. The last c43 was a great car, but just used a tuned version of their run of the mill V6, with AMG suspension and brakes, that car was much more of an AMG line car. This one may be a 4 banger, but holds true to the one man one engine and in terms of actual AMG kit, it goes further than just brakes and suspension, meaning it differentiates itself a lot more from a C class AMG line than the previous car did.
Mercedes put a lot of good tech in this generation. Hand built engine is a nice touch and confirmed AMG status but I have to say the old c43 coupe age so well and it's a V6.......it's a keeper if you own it......
Thanks for the video. It's literally the first time the optics package has been shown. I think it's missing the rear flics and addition diffuser at the rear valence.
Looks really good compared to last gen. Makes me even more excited for the CLE55 or 63 AMG, hope it has no pillars and a fully opening rear and front window like previous E and CLK class.
I think I can forgive this car for it's 4-cyl engine. I must say that the old one sounds a billion times better, especially with the explosive upshifts. Still, it's quite nice.
Mercedes does make a straight 6 and assuming a single turbo, it's by far the simplest performance engine to manufacture and makes good power. The 4 is similar but will lack primary engine balance and long-term reliability will fall a bit short. The C class is for young gentlemen that are starting out and it's pretty nice. The sweet spot for me is the straight 6. The V8's are too heavy and too uneconomical. Your mileage may vary.
Was thinking the same. I've got the E53, straight 6, electric supercharger/turbo 48v system which has a lot of this tech already from 2 years ago. A platform that Mercedes seems to have given up on, and could have been great in this car.
All I can say is that AMG must be holding back for the full C63s , like the alloys style the seats but an AMG is about the driving, the real sound experience. I am very fortunate to have a S205 C63s and I am truly still sat firmly on the fence in deciding if the new generation with all the toys and tech added makes an impression on me.
on the builders guide I believe the aero package is called the performance studio package. Can you confirm that? Also, do all 43s come with the performance exhaust & launch-control?
This video made me wanna get one I am due for an upgrade from the previous model after my 1hour 30min test drive I find the V6 is more exciting and engaging than this pile of beautiful junk it's not worth the asking price I am sorry. I will put my money in the V6 upgrades like after market headers, stage 2 tune for gearbox and engine, a wrap and 20inch rivian wheels.
Looks nice... but Mercedes-Benz UK will likely trim back on some of those available options... so I'll be surprised if we get those seats... or the rear wheel steering... or even those AMG 'Aero' and 'Night' Packs... which will be a shame because personally, I think an estate with those options would be very appealing. I'm also oddly looking forward to hearing what the new AMG C-class cars sound like. AMG cars don't often disappoint in the noise department. I remember how many people at the time said the 4.0 turbo V8s would sound pants against the 6.3 NA ones (and okay, they had a point) but AMG still got the M177 to play a decent bass line under full Wellington. We might be surprised by these electrified four pots yet...
Same i would take the C43 but i love more power so i will have to see about the new AMG C63. Im also disappointed that the AMG C63 will lose the V8 and use a 4 cyl hybrid instead and i also know about the next AMG E Class as well as there is a AMG E63 S Final edition coming soon which could indicate the last E63 S with a V8 before it follows the same direction of 4 pot hybirds
@@Driver20418 the thing I like about this new c43 is that it’s more amg focused aside from just the power which is something the m340i lacks. But saying that the B58 engine is glorious, definitely not something I can say about the new breed of AMG’s

It seems to be a great improvement over a regular W206. Really curious what driving experience does it bring and whether this i4 engine can keep up with M340i’s B58.

I have the same opinion. This review seems to have some pressure from Mercedes, it reads more like a shitty ad than an actual review
We quite literally thought the same! How can someone who owns a G63 AMG a GT Black Series and who owned several proper AMG's in the past, say that this is 10 times the better AMG than it's predecessor?
Well said! Honest opinion! Cancel Culture beware lol 😆
I still don't see why Merc had to drop the 6 while BMW can continue the M3 and M340i... But I have to say this C43 looks really good
Yeah it looks good but you loosing a v8 monster and getting a Honda Civic that pops like Wtffff
Been looking the same for over 20 years now
The exterior design looks good but the lack of a 6 cyl engine is a big miss and a deal breaker for me.
Yeah exactly! Even an EV is better than a 4 cylinders
Honestly I prefer this one over the old 43’s. It got cool options, nice interieur/exterieur. And the badge on the engine. Nice work!
Yeah bro it’s mad expensive Mercedes’ is to much money for no reason even though bmw got the performance for less money
In Slovakia fully loaded C43 is 115k euros.Fully loaded M3 Comp is 130k with carbon seats, ceramic break etc.I think it's completly mental how much they want for this and I don't even want to think how much will C63 be
@@wellbi71 yep I agree it’s fucking ridiculous and the m3 comp x driver can swap to rwd lol so it’s fucking insane what they are asking for

@@KC_Smooth lol 😂 bro your mad funny this comment made me die but it’s true
This might be the sweet spot of the W206 AMGs, as the next C63 is reported to weigh just over 2000kgs (with the same E-Performance P3 hybrid unit like the GT 4 door), so the C43 might actually feel better through the corners and it's still responsive and powerful enough to have loads of fun. Just a shame about the sound.
Over 2000kg 😳😳
Sounds been ruined by the EU limitations on all of the bigger engine models sadly.
So it will weigh as much as an SUV, look like a girls lip gloss and have an engine with no soul, sound or personality.

I'm kind of disappointed in the exterior changes except for the grille, it does look more aggressive and meaner and I like it. However the overall design of the exterior just looks like it's been downgraded imho, it will probably grow on me though. The interior and the whole technology behind it, AMAZING.
Oh I do like this but after looking at the rs3 I'm struggling to choose iv had 4 diffrent c classes and getting bored of the dash
Honestly, this is the news I was waiting for. The w205 C class interior was very dated. This seems like the perfect inner-city AMG.

Very thorough review, always informative and professional. Just love listening to you!!!
I'm a bit surprised by that 0-60 time. A full second slower than the new RS3, despite the same HP. The AMG must weigh significantly more than the RS3.
Hybrids do weigh a lot.
Ok, many people hate the 2.0 4 banger, but for me being in Belgium, I honestly get excited about this new c43. Big v8s or even a v6 etc are so expensive in taxes, especially for the regular working person. So the 2.0 is very welcome imo.
I just pre-ordered a 23' m340 xdrive. Hopefully I don't regret it over not getting this.
I cant believe I am saying this but I am starting to like bmws more.. Been a dye hard mercedes fan for years
RBR never disappoints, the car with that 4 banger does 💀
That motor that drives the turbo has a trick feature. When not in use it can generate up to 4Kw that recharges the battery driven by the exhaust gases.
M3 is still my fav, but lovely interior
What we wanted in the next gen c43:
A less jerky first gear,
No MBUX, too much glare, “new” aka old in a couple years technology ages cars badly
4matic +
V6 Engine
Race Mode + Drift Mode

Coupe version will be released soon, my 2020 is 2dr coupe
More physical buttons, less iPad touchscreens! An inline-6 would have been ok too! Maybe some real exhaust tips? How about not reverting to comfort mode when you turn off the car? Launch control?
As a former C43 and GLC63s (now M4x) owner, I completely agree. It would have been so easy to make a good C43 W206, but this one ain’t it.

Looks like the sweet spot of the line. I thought the c200 looked good but this is a whole new level, and it looks really smart. I still think they should have stopped the line here though, and end the line of the C63 without ruining its V8 heritage. But for a daily? I would 100% drive this.

I think I can forgive this car for it's 4-cyl engine. I must say that the old one sounds a billion times better, especially with the explosive upshifts. Still, it's quite nice.
£70k for a C43. Pure madness. Absolutely crazy money.
better than an RS3 though
I rlly want to see the coupes for the new C-Class. Mercedes coupes always been a treat to look at.

are there two different kinds of AMG performance seats? I saw they have two different packages with them. DE4&DE5
19" wheels fit better in my opinion. Look great and I'm more than sure the ride quality would be much better
Can't get Aero or night pack in UK so pointless.....won't sell

Probably would prefer this over the 63. Especially with the new e63 going in the same direction
