I try to keep these short as possible, but this one is a bit of a deep dive compared, so here is a glimpse at documenting a full multistorey building as quickly as possible
Hi yes, In the description This OSArch link, I put all the resources in OSArch: community.osarch.org/discussion/1344/blenderbim-beginner-tutorial-multistorey-building-in-40mins/p1?new=1
All those angular lines are freaking me out, (20:44) Coming from Sketchup, the only time you would see those is when the surface has been pulled out of square or is not pefectly flat, does that make sense?
Hi Tanko, in the case of Blender it is simply triangulating to save memory space, the walls are perfectly perpendicular and can be visually cleaned up with a simple limited dissolve command. Blender does not share the same problems as sketchup and it has quite a few tools to deal with those, I invite you to try out the program and check the walls for yourself, you will find they are all good
@@IfcArchitect Thank you very much for your reply. I really do intend to start learning, although which version is easiest to learn and use Blender-bim or Archipack ?
@@Tanko3691 Hi Tanko, I would say they are very different tools, for myself BlenderBim uses Ifc as the file format so as a professional that is vastly more useful than a blend file. On the other hand Archipack is much faster and better integrated into blender so the renders and visualization is much easier with Archipack, So use the one that you would find more useful, hopefully in the future the two of them will work better together, I am only covering BlenderBim atm, but there are many archipack tutorials out there
Can I check how you place the cursor on the right place when you do Shift A or Shift E. It seem that the placement or mine not snap or spot on. What is the secret or the thing I did wrongly? Just start to learn this BlenderBim. TIA
Hi Danny, the key is the kind of snaps you have enabled, I use: 1) vertex, 2) edge, 3) face 4) edge centre 5) edge perpendicular let me know if that helps
@@IfcArchitect Hi, can I check after you place the cursor, Shift A , will you need to extra step to ensure the newly added mesh is at the right position. Which mean, Cursor,Shift A,G and Ctrl to snapped?
excellent tutorials, they have helped me a lot to start in this world of open BIM, I want to ask you a perhaps silly question, is it possible to import a existing old 2d or 3d model for example from Autocad of a building and convert it in Blender to the IFC model?
Glad they have helped! You can bring in any 3d model into blenderBim and convert it into an ifc manually, this isnt perfect but the majority of the geometry will come through As for 2d you can bring it into blender with DXF import and then draw over it to create a 3d ifc, unfortunately it doesn't support converting 2d cad into ifc just yet. These aren't silly questions at all, if you have any more I'd recommend coming to the OSArch community forum here: community.osarch.org/discussions
In current version there is no copy to container button. So tried duplicating and then changing the spatial container. But when i made changes in the 1st floor wall it also affected the ground floor ones. Can anyone help me
Hi MG, you can find the resources here: community.osarch.org/discussion/1344/blenderbim-beginner-tutorial-multistorey-building-in-40mins/p1?new=1 including the image I like to put the links to resources in the description of the video, if you want to get resources for any of the other vids Hope that helps
Is there a way to save a scaled reference image as a IFC object? I'm trying to replicate an existing building from a floor plan and ran into various errors/bugs when trying to save both the blender file and the IFC project file. Using only the IFC project file would seem to be the way to avoid this. But all in all very nice and thorough tutorial once again! Really stoked about BlenderBIM and its possibilities
At the moment I keep the Image in a blend file and copy it across to the ifc open in another blender instance, not the best but working on an alternative to keep it with the IFC file, When I find it I will let you know!
Apologies for the delay here, From a certain update, the panel has been moved to the scene properties tab, you can learn about it in this video: ruclips.net/video/tpQjRjB1wnU/видео.html
Hi Sorry I completely misunderstood, that is a custom layout that I made for these tutorials, you can see me set it up in the beginning of this video: ruclips.net/video/PNoOyCHa_V0/видео.html It doesn't come default with Blender and it shouldn't get in the way you can use the basic layout tab to do everything in these tutorials
Hello, can we do some nice modeling and rendering using blender in a next step or would it break the IFC workflow? In otherwords is blenderbim capable of generating both a working IFC model and a Blender photorealistic rendering or is this not meant for this?
Hi, yes you can totally go onto do detailed modelling and rendering, this is definitely made to complement that workflow. I typically break it into 2 models the 'render' model and the 'ifc' model, purely because the Ifc can be broken if you don't follow correct technique, The Ifc also does not save certain blender elements so it is best to break them up to take full advantage of blender
Very nice but it is difficult to understand some passages. There is the only video about multi-story buildings.. It's hard to create levels.. I have to look several times..
I have very little understanding of blender but i like ur tutorial so much i subscribe just so maybe one day i might learn this cuz it's so mesmerizing to learn.

Wonderful tutorial! Thank you so much!
Thanks for this video. Could you make a video on creating a custom IFC library. I think this topic could interest a lot of people including me.
I can definitely! it's not too complicated, so it's on the list.
