    This video has been updated:

    BlenderBim is changing fast so this is the first vid that needed an update, that latest versions are more feature complete, more stable and more capable.

    subscribed! I'm not an architect, I'm a background designer/env designer in games and animation, but even for 2D work in production we often have to do orthos and floorplans, and I began my career working at family's/other arch firms doing odds and ends archviz/blueprint/autocad/general assistant stuff, so always looking for new ways to make orthos easier of work. Sketchup to Layout works great for this, but Sketchup is kind of a pain to work with otherwise, and these days everyone wants us to use and learn blender anyway that I figured it made sense to do my next project in Blender and Photoshop vs Maya and Photoshop. Found your video trying to find the best way or tool to make a floorplan or scene easier to slice and have done and ready to go for print/orthos. This looks great and so cool it's free!

    Really positive to see tutorials coming out to support the adoption of this tool and also see how quickly the add-on is developing.
    Would be great to see in addition to those already listed by others the creation of type based furniture (think this will help those on lift rafts from Autodesk) especially if parametric based used CAD sketcher as well as adding multiple storeies to a scheme. Good video to share with people though keep it up.

    • @IfcArchitect

      Cad sketcher is already slightly integrated into BlenerBim, so there will definitely be a video covering it, the rest will be in a another vid

    • @IfcArchitect
      @IfcArchitect  2 года назад

      Hi Rob, I am assuming the wall added as normal, then I think maybe you clicked off of the wall, height & length is only visible when you have the wall selected,
      If that's not the problem you can also check if the tools are visible in the "Active tools and workspace setting" it's the tab in the properties panel on the top that has a little screwdriver and spanner icon
      if it's still not visible you can try updating your BlenderBim to the latest one I am using:
      blenderbim-221102 or later

    • @IfcArchitect
      @IfcArchitect  Год назад

      Yes you can! There is a type manager in the Bim tool where you can add your own walls (I often add a 230 wall)
      The type manager is the waffle grid found next to the types selection dropdown in the Bim tool
      1. Select the grid
      2. Select IfcWall
      3. Select wall type
      4. Select elemented wall
      5. Confirm the type name
      6. save
      7. Add to project

    And another question about walls. It is possible to place a wall with a "start Point / End Point" method? How would you change the wall thinckness of a WallType? Thanks!

    • @IfcArchitect
      @IfcArchitect  2 года назад

      Great question, at the moment you can select the start point and also set the wall length, so that should do what you are asking, the thickness of the wall is determined by the wall 'type'(100,200,300,etc). It can be edited in the Ifc material editor, it is a bit complicated so I am busy making a vid with that included but if you want more detail you can ask the question on the OSArch community thread:

    is it possible to import walls from another program (IFC), and add windows to it in the same way? Also, if we modify the positions of these walls, will the components follow or be left behind?

    • @IfcArchitect
      @IfcArchitect  7 месяцев назад +1

      Yes it is possible but depending on where its imported from the walls may not be correctly modelled and behave differently,
      the components move independently so if you want to move a wall and a window select them both and then move them, it would definitely be a nice a future feature

    Thank you very much for these great tutorials. I am trying to recreate our home in blenderbim and it really works quite well. Unfortunately, when I try to change the door swing in object mode by mirroring as you do it via a rotation, it messes up the whole object. So it does affect not only the 2d representation. Do you have any advice on this? I am looking forward to your next videos. Thanks again!

    • @IfcArchitect
      @IfcArchitect  2 года назад

      1) If you want to affect the 2d representation alone go into edit mode, that will change all doors of that 'type',
      2) if you want change the direction (out or in) of the door swing that is best done in object mode. (you can now do this easier with 'Shift F' to flip the door, things change fast haha)
      3) If you want two door different swing directions (left or right) you need to save a second door 'type' with the opposite swing
      For now that is best practice but it will be simpler in the future

      @@IfcArchitect I'm familiar with programs with a more drag and drop approach. An advantage and disadvantage at the same time with a free open source software. I guess I have to break down and learn shortcuts. There are more shortcuts than there are add-ons. I'm trying to be civil than snippy.

      Hi Chris, I think maybe you haven't selected the 'tool' tab on the n panel, it needs to be selected to see the shortcuts and the buttons, alternatively you can find the buttons in the "Active tool and workspace settings" tab it's the little screwdriver & spanner icon.
      If that isn't the answer you are welcome to come to the OSArch community thread and ask in detail there:

    @lfcArchitect. Is there a place where we can only see the latest videos and on which RELEASE of BlenderBIM they refer to please. Look at some of your videos and get to a certain point and then get stuck as I don't see what you see. any longer, e.g adding sanitary from download link ( in plans 101) I see the ifc but can't integrate / grt error message. Thanks.

      Hi User,
      The version of blenderbim I use for each video is found in the description of the video,
      Unfortunately Blenderbim is under constant development and changing quickly, I try to update videos as much as possible while covering new content but will take a new approach for the new year.

      Same for me, I have been trying to use it for a few weeks now and I keep running into road blocks.. one after another. Right now when I save it doesn't save everything with correct dimensions... quite frustrating
