Gen alpha was born when social media was getting really popular but as a gen Z myself I got my phone when I was almost 11 😅and I got one of the old phone with only game and RUclips 😮💨. while the gen alpha are getting phone at 5 years old and most of the time I ask where the heck are they're parents? I know that parents are busy but why would you let a 5 year old go on tiktok and let them buy make up? I still had kid makeup as a 11 and didn't get makeup and skin care until I was 13 😭
I think the biggest difference is a gen developing a bit with tech vs full on putting them on it. As i grew up things were limited and internet was considered dangerous and limited. Unlike kids now who parents for some reason just give it to them. I also was not allowed to watch things much other than tv cause my parents thought it would ruin my eyes. Honestly some parents now dont seem to care and let them be. While others I seen are very protective and like raising them like gen z was raised. I hope people are better parents and dont just give or allow their kids do whatever.
Gen alpha are raised on an entirely different internet. The internet as a Gen z was so much different. While a lot of young Gen Z such as myself were raised on the internet, I had early internet fandoms like Five Nights at Freddy’s. Whereas these kids are getting the beauty influencer stuff.
It’s depressing because these children will likely end up regressing and practicing childish behaviours as adults considering the fact they have no childhood right now.

As someone who is now 25 and partakes in regression…absolutely yes. It’s fun and all when it’s something you chose of your own volition. But when it comes from trauma relating to being sexualized as a child, emotional neglect, poverty, growing up to fast, being exposed to things that are not age appropriate, etc…..that shit hits hard and make it hard to handle/cope with real life shit if you don’t actively work to master those skill💔💔💔
Kids aren't supposed to be "pretty". They're supposed to be kids. When you're seven, you don't wear that dress because it's your colour or because you like the way your body looks in it, you wear it because it looks like your favourite Disney princess and has sparkles. Kids shouldn't be aware of their body in those ways, and while I understand that makeup can be a completely safe hobby if used well, it can be seriously harmful and damage you in so many ways if used without the proper emotional intelligence and understanding (which these kids could not possibly have), not to mention the health implications some of these products can have for children
My younger sister and I were only 2 years apart, but since she was like 2 she would just stare at herself in the mirror on and off for hours... I was older and would play around. My parents would tell my sister to join me but she wouldn't want to (we're both girls). We regularly wore dresses, but she was 4, she cried when my parents put her in a particular dress. When asked why, she told them it was because it made her look fat. They were shocked to hear it and forced her to wear it anyways Throughout her childhood they would tell her she's vain and and she started to feel guilty to focus on her looks so much, now as an adult she doesn't think of it at all. If she even puts on makeup she starts feeling bad and guilty. I think our parents pushed her too far in the other direction imo Honestly, every kid is different. Parents shouldn't pressure kids into anything, let them explore whatever they want themselves naturally
this is why in my family no one is allowed to wear makeup until theyre at least 13. when I was younger, this rule was kind of frustrating, but looking back I am so glad I wasn't exposed to it earlier
In 20 years, these kids will HATE their parents for letting them ruin their skin with glycolic acid and other stripping agents. These parents have no idea the skin damage that can happen when you put these types of ingredients on the skin when you don't even need it. All those anti-aging ingredients are like medicine. If your not sick, you dont need medicine!
Yes 100% to this!!! Most skincare is unnecessary unless you are actually treating a specific issue. And kids before puberty have perfect skin, why are their parents letting them use all of these harsh products :(

As a young teen I have pretty greasy/oily skin so I simply use a basic, cheap cleanser that helps with that, and sunscreen on my face daily so I don’t cook 🤷♀ but I don’t use anti aging products because I’m literally young asf 😭 so I have no need to dump retinol into my skin. I wish kids realized they don’t need this shit…
True as i born in early Gen Z era I study Dermatology and I know that glycolic acid is good only if you using it correctly without stripping the skin oils i advise once or twice a week no more, I feel sad in 20 years their skin will become inflamed, red and very sensitive and plus you add exfoliater on top and retinol which is recipe for disaster, not every skin can take so much pressure if you use it good but use it correctly and in smal amount
I think after some time it will die down like people giving access to internet to kids young seeing we all are learning more risks and much more. Hopefully things get better slowly in the coming years
As someone in the younger side of Gen Z (15) most of what I think about recently is how I’m going to afford a house, no point in spending time on social imagery (to be fair, probably because I hate putting pictures of myself online. Most of what I post is art on Tumblr. My parents raised me right so that my life isn’t based on my image.
Right! I’m 15 too and sometimes yes I do care about self image but half of the time it is not one of my worries. I don’t have social media or care to have social media as it is making our generation and the younger generation care more about self image.
As another young Gen z (14) I agree fully. I’m not pretty but who cares, I focus my attention on art and guitar and my other passions. My face is still changing, who knows, maybe I’ll be pretty in a few years, idc tbh. I’m so grateful my parents raised me right!
You are so right, I‘m 15 too and even though I enjoy doing my little three step skincare, I know that my value isn’t bound to my appearance or my over all looks. I am so glad that my parents raised me to not take the sense of beauty too serious. It’s important to have routines, for maintaining hygiene and also for mental health but overdoing it and being obsessed with products and habits that can damage your skin/ mental health on the long run is contraindicative.
Hi! As a younger Gen Z myself I comepletely agree with you. I have acne which is normal for my age so I do a "skincare routine" of 2 or 3 steps and from time to time wear a face mask! That's all you need at this age and this level of retinol and serums WILL damage your skin in the long term. I hope the parents of these poor kids finally realize the harm they have done...
Im glad you don't base your life on image, but its also kind of sad that the economy we live in is forcing children to worry about how they're going to afford basic necessities when they're older :( 15 is not age to be worrying about affording a house.

My little cousin is 11 and she’s talked to me about feeling really alienated because she’s not on social media and doesn’t know much about beauty. I’m 23, and it was already pretty bad when I was in middle school, but the way my cousin describes her peers relationship with beauty and social media and how they bully her for not being a part of it is another level.
I'm a millennial and we didn't bully her but I remember a girl was teased a bit for not knowing who Oprah was and other tv and music references. It's weird to be expected to know all these online influencers and be great at makeup, etc. Much stranger standard for a child
@@jdvxhdj i think you can wear lip products younger than 7th grade, just nothing too crazy. i wore lip oil in 6th grade and i know girls who would wear a little bit of makeup in 5th and 6th grade for picture day, but its not like they were wearing a full face of james charles makeup, just like a little bit of their parents mascara and some lip gloss 🤷♀🤷♀

I am a gen alpha 13 year old, and honestly, I am very suprised that some older generations are shocked about gen alpha being shallow and beauty obssesed. I mean, being raised by the internet with its Photoshop and unrealistic beauty standards, has made us see things, especially the term "pretty", in a skewed way. The internet made us premature and that includes caring about your looks, I have worn a full face of makeup to school since I was 10. The pressure to look good is insane, my best friend had a body dysmorphia that bad, that she wanted to unalive herself, it got that bad. It is good to see someone finally speak about this topic in this calm and normal way, not just rage bait on the infamous 10 year olds at Sephora. Love your videos!

Advice from a fellow 13 year old. If you don't feel comfortable in makeup, drop it. I've never worn any because the feeling makes my face feel gross, and it's worth it even if i get weird stares sometimes.
These parents are criminal. I am disgusted. My boomer parents screwed me and my millennial siblings up a lot with regards to food and eating habits and I would hope my generation would have tried a little harder to protect the next generation from similar issues. I'm not anti-make-up, I feel like you should use skincare or makeup if it helps you feel good, but no one should feel it's necessary for in this way.
It's not just millennials. My uncle remarried and he is now a boomer raising my gen alpha cousins as literal iPad babies. His older millennial daughter (my other cousin) is messed up in other ways from him being a negligent parent back then. There was just no convenient tech around. A negligent parent will be negligent and now there's modern tech thrown into the mix.
@@anabsolutetrashfire1312 no worries! It is super disappointing :/ after looking up marriage/parenting statistics things made a lot more sense to me and it's a shame any one generation gets blamed. Above average intelligence/educated couples usually don't marry until later in life and either don't choose to have kids or have kids much later. Marriage is also much more successful the longer people wait until they've already hit accomplishment milestones. Life is so complicated and it's hard to boil down statistics into catchy headlines.

I can complain about how I was raised but I will also say my experience was better than my siblings'. Time and experience are great teachers.

When I was a kid the most makeup I wanted was purple eye shadow because I thought it would be cool, that was the extent. Kids wore lip-gloss and thought they looked like a model. The standard was only our peers, maybe we saw our mom wearing makeup and wanted to try. Nowadays by the time a kid can speak they've been so exposed to the internet they automatically know how they want to look and what they want to buy. It's no longer something cool you wear once a month, it's now expected from kids and important to the kids that they have these products.
I so im gen Z and i was raised by my mom who didn’t believe in any makeup, when i was little i only was allowed glittery eye shadow for gymnastics recitals and I wasn’t allowed makeup until high school even then only having eyeliner and lip gloss. A big difference is that now Gen Alpha grew up surrounded by media that portray primary adults or older teenagers so their standard of beauty is based off grown up and filter rather than child
There is nothing wrong with kids wanting to take care of their skin that’s just basic hygiene but because of how sensitive youth skin is by using more than sunscreen lotion and face wash they are damaging their skin barrier
I think it is very dystopian but one thing I would like to say is not every single gen alpha kid is like that, I rarely find any kids like that, Sephora kids just pop up once in a while. But I do agree with the things about kids growing up to fast because I do see a lot of girls my age vaping and it’s just sad. I think the internet did kind of ruin/speed up childhood because of all the things kids are exposed to. I’ve known a lot of my peers to struggle with mental health issues too. (I am gen z btw but some random sites say I’m alpha)

I didn’t think of it that way. It hit me so hard- gen Z grew up with both, but gen alpha immediately starts seeing the online world as “real”, first. I can only imagine the mind fukc. And if you don’t have good parents to teach you real life from the online world, you’re screwed.
And a body lotion or something like that. I have always had very dry skin so ever since I was 8, my hands are dry to the point of getting chapped. So I had to adopt the habit of using hand cream early. That being said, kids can also use vaseline for chapped lips and to prevent blisters from shoes. Those aren't for appearances, those are to maintain healthy skin and prevent actual pain. Shampoo is a given, I suppose. The kids' ones are good, because they don't make the eyes sting.
People need to get out of this idea that everything that’s being portrayed on social media is actually happening when we see people in real life. Yes, social media has dramatized and changed the way children see themselves. But this isn’t something every kid is doing. When you actually talk to people, see kids and adults in their environments, and socialize, the things we scroll through for literal hours don’t seem as relevant because they aren’t.
As someone who works with a ton of gen alpha kids, it certainly isn't as prevalent as TikTok makes it seem. That being said, I've definitely seen too many kids wearing concerning amounts of makeup (honestly any amount of makeup is concerning for a seven year old), and I wouldn't be too surprised if some of them had complex skin-care routines but didn't/weren't allowed to wear actual makeup. As a very high estimate, I'd say maybe 10% of all the young kids I work with wear makeup, which, while still not good imo, is definitely lower than social media would have you believe Edit: Woah sorry for the rant that turned out looooong
kids have been playing makeup since ages ago, the only difference is that those kids are purchasing expensive, actual cosmetics rather than normal makeup toys that are not from brands.

Honestly acne is pretty normal in adulthood, I'm 29 and still get breakouts sometimes and so do a lot of my friends. Especially for (cis) women because our hormones fluctuate so much every month, it's kind of inevitable. Every woman I know gets acne before her period. That being said, if you are able to see a dermatologist they might be able to help, though I know it's not accessible to everyone. And in my experience a simpler skincare routine is usually better (also cheaper!) so you're not overwhelming your skin with too many different chemicals and active ingredients. Most of these kids are probably years away from puberty, probably their skin will change a lot then and hopefully they won't have permanently damaged it by using products designed for older skin that actually has signs of aging.

They may have perfect SKIN, because they haven't hit puberty, but not perfect routines. The 'perfect' skin routine for a 9 year old is literally to wash their face.

As someone with a gen alpha sister, Its wild to witness how much things have changed. Back when I was her age, makeup was only my mom letting me use her lip gloss on rare occasions, but now kids are spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora every month?? She has nicer stuff than I have, and she's 10 😭. Even the kids who have good parents who don't let them buy all this stuff are affected as well, because with all their friends buying beauty products and using makeup, it creates new insecurities like "Everyone else is wearing makeup/using this skincare, I want to use it too or I wont look like them."
Your parents have missed the point about upbringing. It’s not about creating cookie-cutter environment for the kid where they escape even the possibility of being insecure, sheltering them from every pressure, it’s about teaching them how to Deal with their insecurities and overcome societal pressure!! Kids have Ego just like the rest of us and it’s Vital to teach them mastering it instead of being ruled by it!! Unfortunately, most parents never dealt with their ego and do not work on their shadow selves. Instead they regret not being able to fully enjoy these parts of themselves. So, it’s not surprising they project it onto their kids and tell themselves: “My ego was hurt, it didn’t get the chance to shine. So, I’m going to fix it in my kid. Their Ego will shine brightly!! And I will finally feel happy through them!” This is narcissistic. Ego takes over multiple generations…
yup I still remeember getting my first mascara as a birthday gift from a friend at 13.. and it was the cheapest green and pink one I think it was called great lash.. and then I wore the maybelinne mega volume purple and yellow tubs around like 14-16, until I discovered Isa Dora waterproof volume mascara and ive stuck with that since. Im 27 and I still wear makeup you can find at H&M today lol. I also still wear the same true match Loreal Foundation for the past 13 years since I was 14 lol.
My niece is ten yo and she’s a regular girl who like reading and playing with her friends. My cousin’s girl is also ten yo and she’s always wearing a full face make up and dresses like a grown up. It’s the parenting.
im 15 and anytime i see those kidfluencers with their beauty routine im like damn they look gorgeous with all their makeup and hair styles. i wake up brush my hair and braid it or put it up in a bun, put a bit of concealer on my undereyes, use browgel and mascara if im feeling extra slay i put some highlihter on and thats ittt. but since 2 months i started to go bare faced once a week to school. at first it was hard but its gotten easier and easier btw love ur videos and ur editing all the best to anyone reading

I’m gen alpha 2011 born, but honestly i think this new idea of ‘girlhood’ is super damaging to people, ive seen my freinds break down due to seeing their face with inverted filter, or without makeup because as a gen alpha the expectations are SO HIGH, and its not just us its the adults. Im half asian half white, so im either hated for being a ‘halfbreed’ or being fetishised because i have ‘K-pop features’ which is what some people have called it- ive litterally been fetishised and criticised on my looks by full grown adults like ‘wow your look is so exotic but you should try lighten your skin abit more’ is the kinda things i get a lot. Genuinely it’s not just gen alpha that is greatly judging us it’s the adults , the millennials the gen z’s. Are world wont change until people genuinely see how the kids are struggling so much, i spent too many hours crying infront of the mirror before i realised how dumb these trends people try to make literal children fit into.

As a Gen alpha myself, I do feel intense pressure to glow up, change or improve. This may be due to going through puberty and wanting to be accepted socially by others, however no matter what I watch if something I see online that I like or something that semi interests me I can't help but want to buy it, sometimes desperately.
I'm 30 now. I started wearing makeup at 11 or 12 (Grade 6), lipstick, lipgloss, and eyeshadow, then eyeliner and mascara grade 7. I just loved it. I even still have one of my $10 lipsticks that's lasted the past 17 years lol But I also didn't have a camera stuck in my face. I feel so sorry for these kids goaded on by their parents, and forced to be terminally online at such a young age
Im a Gen Alpha. I was born in 2013, grew-up with an iPad (hand me down) and was exposed to these types of skincare and makeup videos. At first, I wanted to be like them, wanted to have what they had, wanted pretty clear skin like they had. A year later I now find myself so dumb for this cause now I have somewhat clear skin with just a 2 step skincare routine : CeraVe cleanser, and CeraVe moisturizer. These kids were trying to be like Gen z. Seeing these older beautiful girls with gorgeous hair and a pretty body made them want to be like them, made them look up to them. So wanting to be as « cool » as these older girls made them buy and do everything just like them, and I think they should just enjoy their childhood but I’m not blaming them. Yes, yes some of them are rude and disrespectful but that’s the parents faults for raising them wrong and buying every single thing they asked there for encouraging them to ask for more and more. Kids should be kids and adults should be conscious of themselves cause that’s what kids AND teens look up to these days. If parents give their kids an allowance, they should first teach them to use it well before letting them buy everything anything. That’s my opinion, though some younger Gen alpha are a pain and REALLY need to be humbled.
I was born in 2011, which makes me 13. But honestly, I do not know anyone who actually relies on makeup that much. I mean, as teenagers, it’s rlly normal for us to wanna look pretty and start to become self conscious. So I feel like it’s acceptable for teens to put on some makeup and skincare during our free time.

Even people born in 1997 like Jacob Elordi and Kylie have more in common with millennials from the 90s than with the rest of gen z.
It's not that easy to categorise. Some sources say Gen Z is the first generation to grow up with the internet, so 1997 is easily Gen Z according to that definition. I was born 1996 and even though I had internet around 9 I still quite grew up with the internet.

Also, touch screen phones with social media apps that were scrollable didnt really become a thing before I was like 14, so no longer a kid per ce,. before that, as kids, we had flip phones and slide phones, which didnt have scrollable apps on them..
I think that the 'facecard' does apply to certain aspects of modern life but especially social media. The fact that kids are pressured into the curse of adhering to tik tok beauty is a traumatic experiences, guaranteed to prevent development. Not only should parents be more vigilant towards their children but society should stop encouraging child stars to be exposed to millions of people.
I am a gen alpha according to google, i turn 14 this year in December. I agree fully that women are much more than just a face, when i was 10-11 I focused on my beauty a lot and would wear "unconventional" makeup. I realize how damaging it was to me now, makeup gave me acne and black heads but it also ruined makeup for me. I am now so embarrassed of the way I wore make up that I have sworn against wearing it and I feel way happier that I don't wear it. I know that if I wore make up people would say I was prettier because it would hide me acne and acne scars but I know that it will cause my skin to worsen. Also I feel less self conscious about my face at this time and I think its because I don't mind my flaws because I have natural beauty and that's all that girls should care about, is their own natural beauty because society will always say you can do more to improve your beauty. I might be gen alpha but many people said I'm wise enough to be gen X.
My lil sister is 14, she is on highschool (school kinda works diff here), although at her age i was on high-school and a higher grade due to my grades, but that's not the point. As her big sister, I love spoiling her sometimes. She acts very mature and smart, so dedicated, and best grades. So no surprise when she wanted some skincare, we said, "Yes, here you go, wash gel, moisturizer, and sunscreen. I saw her using my moms face powder, I got her a powder, light blush, and subtle lip gloss. Later, I got her a mid concealer while I was getting mine. She knows how to use it better than me, wouldn't tell she is wearing light makeup, and she looks so cute with the little blush. So can you let early teenagers get some skincare and makeup? Yes, sure. But kids? Let them live their childhood, and as parents, you gotta make sure of that and take care of them.
The only benefit I can see is that they are developing some fine-tuned hand eye coordination. Maybe they can be makeup artists when they're older? Ya know do prom makeup, nail art and that type of stuff for side cash while they're in school. But they could be doing soooo much more fun stuff with their time… and not wreck their skin…

And not every single gen alpha is "below their reading level". The only bad thing about my gen alpha peers is that they use their phones a lot.

Going to school is sometimes a nightmare for me coz all the girls in my class are wearing heavy makeup and stylish clothes; all they can talk about is the latest fashion trend and new TikTok dances. I think its mostly a parenting issue. My 8 year old sister is only allowed to use my old phone to play games and watch youtube for an hour a day, the rest of her day she plays with toys and goes outside and hangs out with her friends in the pool or park and peruses her hobbies like drawing and coloring. It helps that she goes to a private school that doesnt allow younger grade levels to wear makeup or bring phones to school. She has kids play makeup that she uses to play dress up every now and then around the house. As she gets older obviously she will be able to have more leniency on stuff like technology, but while shes just now forming her personality and is very young and impressionable I let her discover real world hobbies and friends and try new things without being influenced greatly by the internet and consumerist mindset.
The gen alphas scare me. I feel like the people at my school always wear so much makeup when they are pretty enough to not wear any makeup. It scares me to think that me (being part of Gen alpha) might be part of the last year of children not being iPad ridden at age 3. Some of my best childhood memories were outside playing with siblings or friends, and the younger generation isn't going to experience these growing and personality creating moments where I had pure joy. It makes me really sad that people think they need to wear makeup, let alone ANTI AGING CREAM at age 4 when in reality it doesn't help them and probably makes them less happy and their parents more broke.
I turned 16 about 10 days ago, so I’m on the younger side of gen z, shout out to my parents for giving me a proper childhood. I started skincare a couple months ago and it’s no 20 step routine but enough to make me happy. The way makeup feels on my skin is irritating. I’m not talking about itching or anything, just that I can’t touch my face or need to check if everything is in place constantly. I feel good going out without any product on my face and that is just because I wasn’t allowed to wear ridiculously heavy makeup from a young age. Makeup can actually be a serious addiction if there is no one to tell you where to stop. gen z is not perfect but I think it’s still one of the best generations when you start learning to love yourself because there are tons of people that would accept you the way you are or relate cause, the generation is high key cringe and it’s not that bad lmao

I kinda disagree at 11:47. I worked on my grandparents farm at 13 and spent every penny I made on going skiing. Of course times are different now, but I don't see anything wrong with kids spending their allowance at Sephora. I think the bigger problem is that these kids are on & consuming social media. Aside from the self image problems, these companies don't do anything to prevent kids from becoming victims of trafficking.

My sister is six years old and I am 24. The difference is 18 years, but I have a hard time using makeup or skin products. Anything I put on my face is a must for her. Every day it is a dilemma and a problem for me, and every day I have to explain that it is harmful to her and that she is young. For your information, I am not very interested in makeup.

I didn't even get to go shopping for clothes until I was in middle school, and it was fine because sure there were popular things in elementary but it also didn't really matter. We built fairy houses/watched clouds/kicked a ball around at lunch. I think 12 is Gen Z if it end in 2012. As a 12 year old I don’t wear and can’t or even get my nails done. I don’t have any Bubble or Drunk Elephant. The most skincare I have is Coco Butter and face masked from Burlington. Oh and I can very much read actually I skipped a grade and I am in honors. I don’t think because some people can’t doesn’t mean everyone can’t. But I will use Sol De Janeiro. Some of it were gifts the others I bought myself with the money I worked for (helping my mom with the daycare), getting all A’s, and birthdays etc. I honestly think it’s good to wear perfume so you’re not musty. BUT I wasn’t wearing any or doing skincare at seven. I Got my first light perfume and 11 (6th grade)

Gen alpha was born when social media was getting really popular but as a gen Z myself I got my phone when I was almost 11 😅and I got one of the old phone with only game and RUclips 😮💨. while the gen alpha are getting phone at 5 years old and most of the time I ask where the heck are they're parents? I know that parents are busy but why would you let a 5 year old go on tiktok and let them buy make up? I still had kid makeup as a 11 and didn't get makeup and skin care until I was 13 😭
I think the biggest difference is a gen developing a bit with tech vs full on putting them on it. As i grew up things were limited and internet was considered dangerous and limited. Unlike kids now who parents for some reason just give it to them. I also was not allowed to watch things much other than tv cause my parents thought it would ruin my eyes. Honestly some parents now dont seem to care and let them be. While others I seen are very protective and like raising them like gen z was raised. I hope people are better parents and dont just give or allow their kids do whatever.
Gen alpha are raised on an entirely different internet. The internet as a Gen z was so much different. While a lot of young Gen Z such as myself were raised on the internet, I had early internet fandoms like Five Nights at Freddy’s. Whereas these kids are getting the beauty influencer stuff.

As someone who is now 25 and partakes in regression…absolutely yes. It’s fun and all when it’s something you chose of your own volition. But when it comes from trauma relating to being sexualized as a child, emotional neglect, poverty, growing up to fast, being exposed to things that are not age appropriate, etc…..that shit hits hard and make it hard to handle/cope with real life shit if you don’t actively work to master those skill💔💔💔

Kids aren't supposed to be "pretty". They're supposed to be kids. When you're seven, you don't wear that dress because it's your colour or because you like the way your body looks in it, you wear it because it looks like your favourite Disney princess and has sparkles. Kids shouldn't be aware of their body in those ways, and while I understand that makeup can be a completely safe hobby if used well, it can be seriously harmful and damage you in so many ways if used without the proper emotional intelligence and understanding (which these kids could not possibly have), not to mention the health implications some of these products can have for children

My younger sister and I were only 2 years apart, but since she was like 2 she would just stare at herself in the mirror on and off for hours... I was older and would play around. My parents would tell my sister to join me but she wouldn't want to (we're both girls).
We regularly wore dresses, but she was 4, she cried when my parents put her in a particular dress. When asked why, she told them it was because it made her look fat. They were shocked to hear it and forced her to wear it anyways
Throughout her childhood they would tell her she's vain and and she started to feel guilty to focus on her looks so much, now as an adult she doesn't think of it at all. If she even puts on makeup she starts feeling bad and guilty. I think our parents pushed her too far in the other direction imo

In 20 years, these kids will HATE their parents for letting them ruin their skin with glycolic acid and other stripping agents. These parents have no idea the skin damage that can happen when you put these types of ingredients on the skin when you don't even need it. All those anti-aging ingredients are like medicine. If your not sick, you dont need medicine!

As a young teen I have pretty greasy/oily skin so I simply use a basic, cheap cleanser that helps with that, and sunscreen on my face daily so I don’t cook 🤷♀ but I don’t use anti aging products because I’m literally young asf 😭 so I have no need to dump retinol into my skin. True as i born in early Gen Z era I study Dermatology and I know that glycolic acid is good only if you using it correctly without stripping the skin oils i advise once or twice a week no more, I feel sad in 20 years their skin will become inflamed, red and very sensitive and plus you add exfoliater on top and retinol which is recipe for disaster, not every skin can take so much pressure if you use it good but use it correctly and in smal amount

As someone in the younger side of Gen Z (15) most of what I think about recently is how I’m going to afford a house, no point in spending time on social imagery (to be fair, probably because I hate putting pictures of myself online. Most of what I post is art on Tumblr. My parents raised me right so that my life isn’t based on my image.
Right! I’m 15 too and sometimes yes I do care about self image but half of the time it is not one of my worries. I don’t have social media or care to have social media as it is making our generation and the younger generation care more about self image.

You are so right, I‘m 15 too and even though I enjoy doing my little three step skincare, I know that my value isn’t bound to my appearance or my over all looks. I am so glad that my parents raised me to not take the sense of beauty too serious. It’s important to have routines, for maintaining hygiene and also for mental health but overdoing it and being obsessed with products and habits that can damage your skin/ mental health on the long run is contraindicative.
Hi! As a younger Gen Z myself I comepletely agree with you. I have acne which is normal for my age so I do a "skincare routine" of 2 or 3 steps and from time to time wear a face mask! That's all you need at this age and this level of retinol and serums WILL damage your skin in the long term. I hope the parents of these poor kids finally realize the harm they have done...

I think that lots of that little girls will end up with plastic surgery according to these standards...almost the half of that little influencers!!!
That's because the bullying they receive for not being "media version of pretty" is getting much worse. Its almost tribalistic. And parents are desperate enough to break under that pressure of their kids fitting in with others too. Authenticity and real skills isn't being valued at all in girls as they should have been unlike in case of boys. Everyone is being groomed into this internalized misogynistic beauty cult perpetuated by internet.

My little cousin is 11 and she’s talked to me about feeling really alienated because she’s not on social media and doesn’t know much about beauty. I’m 23, and it was already pretty bad when I was in middle school, but the way my cousin describes her peers relationship with beauty and social media and how they bully her for not being a part of it is another level.
I'm a millennial and we didn't bully her but I remember a girl was teased a bit for not knowing who Oprah was and other tv and music references. It's weird to be expected to know all these online influencers and be great at makeup, etc. Much stranger standard for a child

@@jdvxhdj i think you can wear lip products younger than 7th grade, just nothing too crazy. i wore lip oil in 6th grade and i know girls who would wear a little bit of makeup in 5th and 6th grade for picture day, but its not like they were wearing a full face of james charles makeup, just like a little bit of their parents mascara and some lip gloss 🤷♀🤷♀

I am a gen alpha 13 year old, and honestly, I am very suprised that some older generations are shocked about gen alpha being shallow and beauty obssesed. I mean, being raised by the internet with its Photoshop and unrealistic beauty standards, has made us see things, especially the term "pretty", in a skewed way. The internet made us premature and that includes caring about your looks, I have worn a full face of makeup to school since I was 10. The pressure to look good is insane, my best friend had a body dysmorphia that bad, that she wanted to unalive herself, it got that bad. It is good to see someone finally speak about this topic in this calm and normal way, not just rage bait on the infamous 10 year olds at Sephora. Love your videos!

Advice from a fellow 13 year old. If you don't feel comfortable in makeup, drop it. I've never worn any because the feeling makes my face feel gross, and it's worth it even if i get weird stares sometimes.

These parents are criminal. I am disgusted. My boomer parents screwed me and my millennial siblings up a lot with regards to food and eating habits and I would hope my generation would have tried a little harder to protect the next generation from similar issues.
I'm not anti-make-up, I feel like you should use skincare or makeup if it helps you feel good, but no one should feel it's necessary for in this way.
It's not just millennials. My uncle remarried and he is now a boomer raising my gen alpha cousins as literal iPad babies. His older millennial daughter (my other cousin) is messed up in other ways from him being a negligent parent back then. There was just no convenient tech around. A negligent parent will be negligent and now there's modern tech thrown into the mix.

@@anabsolutetrashfire1312 no worries! It is super disappointing :/ after looking up marriage/parenting statistics things made a lot more sense to me and it's a shame any one generation gets blamed. Above average intelligence/educated couples usually don't marry until later in life and either don't choose to have kids or have kids much later. Marriage is also much more successful the longer people wait until they've already hit accomplishment milestones. Life is so complicated and it's hard to boil down statistics into catchy headlines.

When I was a kid the most makeup I wanted was purple eye shadow because I thought it would be cool, that was the extent. Kids wore lip-gloss and thought they looked like a model. The standard was only our peers, maybe we saw our mom wearing makeup and wanted to try. Nowadays by the time a kid can speak they've been so exposed to the internet they automatically know how they want to look and what they want to buy. It's no longer something cool you wear once a month, it's now expected from kids and important to the kids that they have these products.
I so im gen Z and i was raised by my mom who didn’t believe in any makeup, when i was little i only was allowed glittery eye shadow for gymnastics recitals and I wasn’t allowed makeup until high school even then only having eyeliner and lip gloss. A big difference is that now Gen Alpha grew up surrounded by media that portray primary adults or older teenagers so their standard of beauty is based off grown up and filter rather than child
There is nothing wrong with kids wanting to take care of their skin that’s just basic hygiene but because of how sensitive youth skin is by using more than sunscreen lotion and face wash they are damaging their skin barrier
I think it is very dystopian but one thing I would like to say is not every single gen alpha kid is like that, I rarely find any kids like that, Sephora kids just pop up once in a while. But I do agree with the things about kids growing up to fast because I do see a lot of girls my age vaping and it’s just sad. I think the internet did kind of ruin/speed up childhood because of all the things kids are exposed to. I’ve known a lot of my peers to struggle with mental health issues too. (I am gen z btw but some random sites say I’m alpha)

And a body lotion or something like that. I have always had very dry skin so ever since I was 8, my hands are dry to the point of getting chapped. So I had to adopt the habit of using hand cream early. That being said, kids can also use vaseline for chapped lips and to prevent blisters from shoes. Those aren't for appearances, those are to maintain healthy skin and prevent actual pain. Shampoo is a given, I suppose. The kids' ones are good, because they don't make the eyes sting.
As a Middle schooler I’m proud to say the only time I’ve ever been to a Sephora was- never.
Also I DO use some skincare, like once a week, and it’s a moisturizer.

People need to get out of this idea that everything that’s being portrayed on social media is actually happening when we see people in real life. Yes, social media has dramatized and changed the way children see themselves. But this isn’t something every kid is doing.
When you actually talk to people, see kids and adults in their environments, and socialize, the things we scroll through for literal hours don’t seem as relevant because they aren’t.
As someone who works with a ton of gen alpha kids, it certainly isn't as prevalent as TikTok makes it seem. That being said, I've definitely seen too many kids wearing concerning amounts of makeup (honestly any amount of makeup is concerning for a seven year old), and I wouldn't be too surprised if some of them had complex skin-care routines but didn't/weren't allowed to wear actual makeup. As a very high estimate, I'd say maybe 10% of all the young kids I work with wear makeup, which, while still not good imo, is definitely lower than social media would have you believe

Honestly acne is pretty normal in adulthood, I'm 29 and still get breakouts sometimes and so do a lot of my friends. Especially for (cis) women because our hormones fluctuate so much every month, it's kind of inevitable. Every woman I know gets acne before her period. That being said, if you are able to see a dermatologist they might be able to help, though I know it's not accessible to everyone. And in my experience a simpler skincare routine is usually better (also cheaper!) so you're not overwhelming your skin with too many different chemicals and active ingredients.
Most of these kids are probably years away from puberty, probably their skin will change a lot then and hopefully they won't have permanently damaged it by using products designed for older skin that actually has signs of aging.
Those perfect skincare routines will ruin those little girls skin. You have the routine you need.

As someone with a gen alpha sister, Its wild to witness how much things have changed. Back when I was her age, makeup was only my mom letting me use her lip gloss on rare occasions, but now kids are spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora every month?? She has nicer stuff than I have, and she's 10 😭. Even the kids who have good parents who don't let them buy all this stuff are affected as well, because with all their friends buying beauty products and using makeup, it creates new insecurities like "Everyone else is wearing makeup/using this skincare, I want to use it too or I wont look like them."

Kids have Ego just like the rest of us and it’s Vital to teach them mastering it instead of being ruled by it!! Unfortunately, most parents never dealt with their ego and do not work on their shadow selves. Instead they regret not being able to fully enjoy these parts of themselves. yup I still remeember getting my first mascara as a birthday gift from a friend at 13.. and it was the cheapest green and pink one I think it was called great lash.. and then I wore the maybelinne mega volume purple and yellow tubs around like 14-16, until I discovered Isa Dora waterproof volume mascara and ive stuck with that since. Im 27 and I still wear makeup you can find at H&M today lol. I also still wear the same true match Loreal Foundation for the past 13 years since I was 14 lol.
My niece is ten yo and she’s a regular girl who like reading and playing with her friends. My cousin’s girl is also ten yo and she’s always wearing a full face make up and dresses like a grown up. It’s the parenting.
im 15 and anytime i see those kidfluencers with their beauty routine im like damn they look gorgeous with all their makeup and hair styles. i wake up brush my hair and braid it or put it up in a bun, put a bit of concealer on my undereyes, use browgel and mascara if im feeling extra slay i put some highlihter on and thats ittt. but since 2 months i started to go bare faced once a week to school. at first it was hard but its gotten easier and easier btw love ur videos and ur editing all the best to anyone reading

I’m gen alpha 2011 born, but honestly i think this new idea of ‘girlhood’ is super damaging to people, ive seen my freinds break down due to seeing their face with inverted filter, or without makeup because as a gen alpha the expectations are SO HIGH, and its not just us its the adults. Im half asian half white, so im either hated for being a ‘halfbreed’ or being fetishised because i have ‘K-pop features’ which is what some people have called it- ive litterally been fetishised and criticised on my looks by full grown adults like ‘wow your look is so exotic but you should try lighten your skin abit more’ is the kinda things i get a lot. Genuinely it’s not just gen alpha that is greatly judging us it’s the adults , the millennials the gen z’s. Are world wont change until people genuinely see how the kids are struggling so much, i spent too many hours crying infront of the mirror before i realised how dumb these trends people try to make literal children fit into.

As a Gen alpha myself, I do feel intense pressure to glow up, change or improve. This may be due to going through puberty and wanting to be accepted socially by others, however no matter what I watch if something I see online that I like or something that semi interests me I can't help but want to buy it, sometimes desperately.
I'm 30 now. I started wearing makeup at 11 or 12 (Grade 6), lipstick, lipgloss, and eyeshadow, then eyeliner and mascara grade 7. I just loved it. I even still have one of my $10 lipsticks that's lasted the past 17 years lol But I also didn't have a camera stuck in my face. I feel so sorry for these kids goaded on by their parents, and forced to be terminally online at such a young age
Im a Gen Alpha. I was born in 2013, grew-up with an iPad (hand me down) and was exposed to these types of skincare and makeup videos. At first, I wanted to be like them, wanted to have what they had, wanted pretty clear skin like they had. A year later I now find myself so dumb for this cause now I have somewhat clear skin with just a 2 step skincare routine : CeraVe cleanser, and CeraVe moisturizer. These kids were trying to be like Gen z. Seeing these older beautiful girls with gorgeous hair and a pretty body made them want to be like them, made them look up to them. So wanting to be as « cool » as these older girls made them buy and do everything just like them, and I think they should just enjoy their childhood but I’m not blaming them. Yes, yes some of them are rude and disrespectful but that’s the parents faults for raising them wrong and buying every single thing they asked there for encouraging them to ask for more and more. Kids should be kids and adults should be conscious of themselves cause that’s what kids AND teens look up to these days. If parents give their kids an allowance, they should first teach them to use it well before letting them buy everything anything. That’s my opinion, though some younger Gen alpha are a pain and REALLY need to be humbled.

I was born in 2011, which makes me 13. But honestly, I do not know anyone who actually relies on makeup that much. I mean, as teenagers, it’s rlly normal for us to wanna look pretty and start to become self conscious. So I feel like it’s acceptable for teens to put on some makeup and skincare during our free time.

When I was your age I was OBSESSED with nail polish (my mom was good with that and even let me do her nails) loved lip balms and glosses, mascara, and teen skincare.

It's not that easy to categorise. Some sources say Gen Z is the first generation to grow up with the internet, so 1997 is easily Gen Z according to that definition. I was born 1996 and even though I had internet around 9 I still quite grew up with the internet.

Also, touch screen phones with social media apps that were scrollable didnt really become a thing before I was like 14, so no longer a kid per ce,. before that, as kids, we had flip phones and slide phones, which didnt have scrollable apps on them..

The fact that kids are pressured into the curse of adhering to tik tok beauty is a traumatic experiences, guaranteed to prevent development. I am a gen alpha according to google, i turn 14 this year in December. I agree fully that women are much more than just a face, when i was 10-11 I focused on my beauty a lot and would wear "unconventional" makeup. I realize how damaging it was to me now, makeup gave me acne and black heads but it also ruined makeup for me. I am now so embarrassed of the way I wore make up that I have sworn against wearing it and I feel way happier that I don't wear it. I know that if I wore make up people would say I was prettier because it would hide me acne and acne scars but I know that it will cause my skin to worsen. Also I feel less self conscious about my face at this time and I think its because I don't mind my flaws because I have natural beauty and that's all that girls should care about, is their own natural beauty because society will always say you can do more to improve your beauty. I might be gen alpha but many people said I'm wise enough to be gen X.
My lil sister is 14, she is on highschool (school kinda works diff here), although at her age i was on high-school and a higher grade due to my grades, but that's not the point. As her big sister, I love spoiling her sometimes. She acts very mature and smart, so dedicated, and best grades.
So no surprise when she wanted some skincare, we said, "Yes, here you go, wash gel, moisturizer, and sunscreen.
I saw her using my moms face powder, I got her a powder, light blush, and subtle lip gloss. Later, I got her a mid concealer while I was getting mine. She knows how to use it better than me, wouldn't tell she is wearing light makeup, and she looks so cute with the little blush.
So can you let early teenagers get some skincare and makeup? Yes, sure. But kids? Let them live their childhood, and as parents, you gotta make sure of that and take care of them.

The only benefit I can see is that they are developing some fine-tuned hand eye coordination. Maybe they can be makeup artists when they're older? Ya know do prom makeup, nail art and that type of stuff for side cash while they're in school. But they could be doing soooo much more fun stuff with their time… and not wreck their skin…

I am all for feeling beautiful in your own skin, but being on social media always makes you play the comparing game. the more youre on there, the more you engage with these trends, the less beautiful you feel! idk maybe im wrong, i do live deep out in the country parts of texas lol, but just think about it you know!
i love eauty and style and got into it as soon as i could identify it. The difference is that I saw it in moments and sought out more media featuring it because I was so fascinated, gen alpha is just being fed it and told, "everyone is poor no matter what right now unless they're ultra pretty."

I'm gen alpha and I'm twelve i grow up with just my Mom and there was a time were she used to do 3 jobs and i could never think about spending HER money for such stupid things 🤦♀️i got my first sephora thing this year to my birthday and it was a small sol de Janeiro body spray from my friend. I was super happy and it smells sooo good but i would never SCREAM at my mom for that maybe i would want it for christmas but thats enough. Money is nothing that falls from tree's , rent is expensive and my mom works almost all day to give me a good live ❤ i use a little bit of makeup some time but because i like it, i don't think wrinkles are something bad they are a beautiful way of ageing . Please don't think every gen alpha is like that 🫶🏼 i like dancing and books , the book store is my sephora. I also like vintage products.

As a gen alpha aged 13,why do I have to be associated with these Sephora kids? Just like many of my peers, I was raised without an iPad,used DVDs and CDs and for most of childhood I didn’t have a TV. I have never watched coco melon. Despite social media taking up a lot of my current life I have felt no real insecurity from it or felt the need for plastic surgery. This is just my experience and I hope the younger kids will also feel that way.

Now that we are entering the 2024/2025 school year, all the grades in middle school r gonna have 2010 - 2012 kids (which is considered gen alpha depending on who you ask) so now those "sephora 12 year olds" r now reaching the age where they can wear makeup. And not every single gen alpha is "below their reading level". The only bad thing about my gen alpha peers is that they use their phones a lot.

I myself am an 11-year-old gen alpha with no skin routine, phone, or makeup. Going to school is sometimes a nightmare for me coz all the girls in my class are wearing heavy makeup and stylish clothes; all they can talk about is the latest fashion trend and new TikTok dances. It traumatized me how my generation is basically ruined and dumb af while the only things I focus on are my studies, friends, and enjoying hobbies I like.

I think its mostly a parenting issue. My 8 year old sister is only allowed to use my old phone to play games and watch youtube for an hour a day, the rest of her day she plays with toys and goes outside and hangs out with her friends in the pool or park and peruses her hobbies like drawing and coloring. It helps that she goes to a private school that doesnt allow younger grade levels to wear makeup or bring phones to school. She has kids play makeup that she uses to play dress up every now and then around the house. As she gets older obviously she will be able to have more leniency on stuff like technology, but while shes just now forming her personality and is very young and impressionable I let her discover real world hobbies and friends and try new things without being influenced greatly by the internet and consumerist mindset.
The gen alphas scare me. I feel like the people at my school always wear so much makeup when they are pretty enough to not wear any makeup. It scares me to think that me (being part of Gen alpha) might be part of the last year of children not being iPad ridden at age 3. Some of my best childhood memories were outside playing with siblings or friends, and the younger generation isn't going to experience these growing and personality creating moments where I had pure joy. It makes me really sad that people think they need to wear makeup, let alone ANTI AGING CREAM at age 4 when in reality it doesn't help them and probably makes them less happy and their parents more broke.
I turned 16 about 10 days ago, so I’m on the younger side of gen z, shout out to my parents for giving me a proper childhood. I started skincare a couple months ago and it’s no 20 step routine but enough to make me happy. The way makeup feels on my skin is irritating. I’m not talking about itching or anything, just that I can’t touch my face or need to check if everything is in place constantly. I feel good going out without any product on my face and that is just because I wasn’t allowed to wear ridiculously heavy makeup from a young age. Makeup can actually be a serious addiction if there is no one to tell you where to stop. gen z is not perfect but I think it’s still one of the best generations when you start learning to love yourself because there are tons of people that would accept you the way you are or relate cause, the generation is high key cringe and it’s not that bad lmao

I kinda disagree at 11:47. I worked on my grandparents farm at 13 and spent every penny I made on going skiing. Of course times are different now, but I don't see anything wrong with kids spending their allowance at Sephora. I think the bigger problem is that these kids are on & consuming social media. Aside from the self image problems, these companies don't do anything to prevent kids from becoming victims of trafficking.

My sister is six years old and I am 24. The difference is 18 years, but I have a hard time using makeup or skin products. Anything I put on my face is a must for her. Every day it is a dilemma and a problem for me, and every day I have to explain that it is harmful to her and that she is young. For your information, I am not very interested in makeup.

I didn't even get to go shopping for clothes until I was in middle school, and it was fine because sure there were popular things in elementary but it also didn't really matter. We built fairy houses/watched clouds/kicked a ball around at lunch. It was super relaxed and it's so sad that it seems like kids today don't get to experience just existing, being slightly bored but also being present in the moment and making genuine connections

I think 12 is Gen Z if it end in 2012. As a 12 year old I don’t wear and can’t or even get my nails done. I don’t have any Bubble or Drunk Elephant. The most skincare I have is Coco Butter and face masked from Burlington. Oh and I can very much read actually I skipped a grade and I am in honors. I don’t think because some people can’t doesn’t mean everyone can’t. But I will use Sol De Janeiro. Some of it were gifts the others I bought myself with the money I worked for (helping my mom with the daycare), getting all A’s, and birthdays etc. I honestly think it’s good to wear perfume so you’re not musty. BUT I wasn’t wearing any or doing skincare at seven. I Got my first light perfume and 11 (6th grade)
