True as a Greek person that grew up in that Culture by and large and that is not true none of that is true the goddess she's showing is a Greek goddess named Aphrodite and no she is not depicted anywhere in Greece as fast is a falsehood and perhaps there are certain things that show her fat but it's because she's also the goddess of fertility which means the goddesses that are fat are usually fertility goddesses and the reason why they're fat is because they're having a tremendous amount of babies in fact the ones where she's depicting she's actually pregnant with like 12 different babies the another one is the same thing mnumoscene who is depicted in one of those pictures who is the goddess of memory and intelligence which people that are in this world crowd don't have because they can't represent cultures correctly yet they scream cultural appropriation whenever somebody else does it but that got us gave birth to The Sciences and the Arts known as The Muse the goddesses of the various different scientific academic and cognitive disciplines as well as the Arts so the reason why those two goddesses are fat is because they're pregnant in those depictions in fact every goddess depiction of a woman being fat is actually a depiction of them being pregnant so you're either on board with women being barefoot and pregnant or you're on board with being skinny by that very logic and I'm not meaning that to be offensive I'm literally just trying to tell you what those things actually mean this is not by far and inaccurate this is by far and inaccurate depiction of my culture it actually makes me pretty pretty angry that someone would depict a Greek goddesses as that are pregnant in those depictions you get angry whenever someone wears a mohawk or a piece of clothing that doesn't really bother Native Americans but it bothers you for Native Americans but as a Greek I am offended at this video and if it's okay for you to get offended for other cultures but then use my culture as propaganda against Health did you know that the Greeks were very skinny I'm very muscular they liked very strong women and we still like very strong women but not women who go out and do work in fact in Greece that can actually get you killed in some places at least in ancient times I'm not sure about now but in Greece we like women who are physically strong big boobs big butts and know unless they are pregnant they are not fat you can say that's patriarchy but it worked for us for hundreds of thousands of years

Fun fact: Liquid food is one of the recommendations for gaining weight. Chewing is part of what makes your body realize that you have eaten and enhances the feeling of being full after a meal. With drinking calories you reduce that feeling and can sneak more calories into your meal before feeling full.
Raw veggies and lots of fibre, that's what gets you feeling full with low calorie intake. Either way, you will feel tired if you're on a deficit, but it won't be as bad and you won't feel as starved.

@@xXJAng3lXxx this is a crazy take. You want your mom to look thinner? Am I misunderstanding? What the hell does it matter if she is healthy? Not everyone wants to think thin, btw. people just want to be healthy, which can look a lot of ways, as long as you're not obese or unhealthily overweight. Women naturally have a higher fat percentage because we are meant to grow and birth children. Aphrodite was sculpted with belly rows and thicker limbs. She was the epitome of beauty. So no, thinness is not a trait that should be desired above health, because remember, thinness does not equate to health. I have skinny friends who do not workout or eat healthy whole foods regularly. And most the time, an adult women who is super thin is starving herself and is unhealthy. We "desire" it because we were taught to.

Yeahh, it changed when science caught up with times. It was discovered that obesity is actually very unhealthy and can lead to a wide spectrum of diseases such as diabetes, high cholesterol levels etc. Although it is not healthy to be obese, it is also not healthy to starve oneself or resort to drugs to maintain a skinny figure. It’s a double edged sword. It really comes down to personal choices and what people need to do for themselves in order to maintain good health.

I see your point, but what the body shaming goes way beyond obesity, it goes against very health bodies, actually. With extremely thinness being considered the right body shape, any woman who doesn't fit into this is seen as fat, and with diet culture's advance it only got worse, we start finding "flaws" we didn't even imagine that could exist. And, as you said, this seeking for the perfect body puts people through some really unhealthy habits, be it fastings, crazy diets or inappropriate medication use. Besides, I want to also add that helping people who face obesity is not done with body shaming, just excluding these bodies and pointing how wrong they are, it is much more complex than that (and, as a dietetics student, I care a lot about those health matters). I apologize if any part of this comment sound incoherent, I am not a native speaker.

I heard the quote "What if suddenly all women woke up and just loved their bodies? .. The fashion industry and makeup industry would probably go broke". That it just made me reaslise how many different organisations/shops "body shame" women or at least advertise with becoming skinny or hiding your fat. And it just opened my eyes. I mean- if you just think about it, beauty standards are basically toxic things men (mostly) thought of and now make our life miserable with and ( mainly insecure and girls that want to be accepted) promote them on social media platforms now, manipulating us into thinking that is important. When did this even start?? And why?? Why did some random people decided: We need to now make womens appereance our decision/things to judge and comment on?? And it also maked me sad that once someone started it (even as a little joke) mothers will tell their daughters and now they will even tell strangers these things over the internet, making it so fucking hard to stop it.

I’m also a consumer of “diet culture” because I have a restricted diet due to a chronic illness. So I buy supplements that help me and I have to be conscious of my diet. That’s dieting, it’s not toxic for me because it actually keeps me happy and alive.

Healthy should be the standard. Obesity is horrible, but starving yourself is just as bad. There is a such thing as a healthy diet without starving or overeating. Come up with a workout plan that works for your body the best, and foods that work with your body the best. Drugs will NOT help. If you stop taking it, you’ll gain the weight back because you never changed your diet or physical exercise. Ozempic, Mounjaro, Zepbound, should ONLY be used for those who need it to stay alive, rather than given to someone who never stuck to a workout or diet plan for 1 month. You have to know what’s your problem areas, what kinds of foods make you feel tired, to be healthy. We need to prioritize health instead of obesity AND “skinny”.

I’m 31 and it’s taken all these years just to begin to undo the damage from what I learned growing up, especially from my mom. I was chubby child so I ended up doing starvation diets by 12 to keep myself skinny for years. That obviously backfired and now I’m an obese adult. I’ve recently lost over 40 lbs, but it has not been easy. My blood pressure and cholesterol were out of wack, I’m just now only getting those under control. I’ve tried the drugs prescribed by doctors too but the amphetamines and glps all made me soooo sick in different ways. I was almost one foot in the doctor’s office to get weight loss surgery before I decided to give it one last go without any medication or surgery. I’ve been diagnosed with binge eating disorder so it’s been a wild ride. The weight loss is slow, but it’s the only way I’ll truly change my habits and start a new lifestyle rather than another diet. Obesity is horrible, it has made me so sick and unable to do small tasks at such a young age. Thank you for giving good advice, I’m praying maybe we can prevent younger generations from making the same mistakes with extreme restrictions or overeating.

I feel like the fact that ZOE, who has previously spoken about her struggle with weight, just validates all the information presented in this video even more. Like, she's not saying being skinny is bad so be fat. She herself demonstrated in her own journey that you just have to find habits/routines that make you feel good, and the rest of her health/body changes followed. (She's not "skinny" naturally or because she starved/killed herself to look the way she does now, but rather looked for healthy life choices that brought her healthy results) So it's not a video where she's either in favor of or against skinny girls or fat girls, but rather wants to promote we shouldnt follow trends and just feel good with ourselves by making healthy choices.

      Sooo true!
As a teenager I never had any struggles with my weight and ate whatever I want and then during covid I started to gain like 10kg and I got body shamed by my whole family even my grandpa told me to "stop eating so much" on my 20th birthday. I didn't have the worst diet but what I didn't know about my body is that I have a fructose intolerance! I found out in summer 2022 and I cut out all kinds of artificial sugars and syrups off my diet and also started going to the gym and boom. In 3 months I lost 5 kgs and since summer 2023 I got even skinnier than when I was a teenager. And I still eat burgers, pizza, pasta, ice cream but I have the perfect balance now! I started to build some muscles (especially in the booty lol) and I have never been in a better shape! I try to stay active and go for walks or go to the gym once a week sometimes twice. But THATS IT! And even girls at my university asked me what I did and how I did it and it all comes down to a sustainable lifestyle change that matches your body!! No ones body is the same for example being vegan or vegetarian does not work for me. I tried it but it didn't make me feel or look good. So really study your body and GO TO THE DOCTOR! I only went to a doctor when I already had bad symptoms and a gut inflammation. Also I went to a nutritionist after I got my fructose result and she helped me so much with being educated on food. Like understanding what calories mean, the ingredients, the tabel on a product. It was life changing and I've never felt more comfortable in my body. Not even in my teenage years.

What really happened? you answered it already; previously, thin was correlated to sickness, lack of food and malnourishment, poverty etc. NOW, thin emphasises the ability tht although we are in an age of consumption and there is never any food unsourced, unavailable, food is by majority, plentiful for the majority - so NOT being obese, not having excess weight, not being fat shows a conservativism of self integrity over consumption and gluttony. We have it all - if you can be a healthy weight and take care of your body without over-consumption (which can be many things for many people including products) you are showing via physical appearance the self-integrity and care/respect you have for your body. But like most tings - this is multi-faceted and nuanced.

I'm glad you mentioned this, because I think it has quite a bit to do with things. There's also the issue of sugar being put into literally everything - especially convenience foods. It's been pretty well established at this point that sugar is addictive, and when you pair that with your point of "affordable garbage food" being readily available, it's not hard to see how/why some of these issues exist.

@sunflowergirl264 Yeah. American BREAD often has added sugar even.
The grain and sugar industries are federally subsidized.
      Factory farmingvis the norm.
We have been fed lies about dietary cholesterol and fat for a CENTURY.
Diet culture is a red herring compared to all of that.
Besides, Nestlee alone makes more money than the ENTIRE DIET industry combined.
      Mon Santo is even worse.
Diet culture would die on its own if we all united to fix our agricultural/food landscape.

it is really not that simple. I have skinny friends who get winded going up the stairs. It is not all about weight. Sure, there is a point of obesity that is objectively unhealthy, but skinny people are not automatically healthy. I have been overweight and underweight and I can tell you I felt a whole lot shittier being underweight. My body couldn't stand it and poorly reacted. I was never obese so I can't attest to that, but my body could handle a little extra weight than it could without enough weight. I was weak and passing out and losing hair. Can't say the same for when I had some extra fat on me. Now I stay in a healthy range and have for years, but I feel the absolute best I ever have. I know you're not talking about being underweight, but I am making a point that skinny DOES NOT feel better than being fat. They both suck. Unless your naturally super thin, most woman are meant to have some extra weight in order to bear a child.

When I was in college, I had a horrible eating disorder that caused a lot of damage to every area of my life. My body was changing and asking me to be at a different weight than what I wanted it to be. The more I resisted that, the worse it got. And I think it’s important that not only we accept ourselves where we are at but also be critical of the voices asking us to look (and weigh) something specific. BMI isn’t a good measure for everyone because being a healthy weight should be measured by the individual. Are you strong and mentally fit? Are you happy and social? Are you involved in your community? Because if you can say yes to all those above and manage to get a walk in here and there, you’re probably doing alright.

As someone who is a teenager and currently losing weight, making this change early in my life has been a blessing because I’ve learned I don’t need much to feel content but I’ve also learned that I don’t need to be super skinny to be happy. People need to remember that being HEALTHY is what makes u healthy. Being too fat is not good neither is being fat we get one life so don’t spend it restricting yourself to foods that make u miserable whether it’s junk food or these fad diets. A calorie deficit is the best thing but it has become so unhealthy the way people go about it. To become skinny in a way that makes u happy and content you need to go about your weight loss journey in a way that makes u happy and content

This is a very good overview of dieting and trends. However, I think it would have benefited from setting this into context of the overall development of what food people consume in general. This was mentioned for the depression era, but later it was completely left out.
One of the reasons why - in my opinion - being thin is such a status symbol today is because it is so much easier (as in requires less willpower) and also really cheap to be fat. Cheap, convenient food is loaded with sugar that makes you crave more food long before you need more calories. If you don't have time to cook yourself, finding satisfying food options is either incredibly expensive or really high in calories. After all, fat, sugar and salt are easy and cheap ways to make food tasty and starches are the cheapest options to make a filling meal.
Being thin today is a symbol of status because being fat is what happens to you very easily if you don't care.
And this is not even touching on the connection between mental illness and obesity. If getting healthy food on your plate hasn't broken your bank yet, try finding a therapist.

I’ve been on my adhd medication that made me the same way, but because I had history with ED I really was disciplined to eat regularly. It still made me skinny but not in a nice way. Hollow face, skin hanging, even though I was exercising regularly. After 4 months I decided not to take them anymore because of some side effects, even though I felt great mentally on them. My liver was in so much worse shape afterwards and I had serious anemia. Now I exercise and eat healthy, plenty of nutritious foods and I look and feel so much better. And I’m just fit and not sickly skinny (I felt so much older on medication). I will never return to dieting. ED took 10 years of my life and I was so so unhappy, unable to enjoy life, chase my dreams. I will never sacrifice my health again for anything.

Let's stop subsidizing empty calories, bring back cooking, nutrition and meal planning as classes, and build walkable neighborhoods. After I started a required meditation for anxiety and depression, I gained 200 lbs within 2 years. Once I realized a double chin was determined as “ugly” and “gross” I became insecure.
I’m much older now and I’ve learned that my body is quite literally a canvas! Some people take it as a bad thing but I see it as making me unique. I enjoy makeup but I also enjoy being silly with said double chin. I enjoy being an idiot with myself, including silly faces and poses during “serious” photos, patting my belly like I’m pregnant, or more! I’m overweight and you know what? I’m proud! It’s part of who I am, and I will NEVER be ashamed to look unique 😉

His name is Jesus Christ who died on the cross for your sins! No matter how hard you have been broken, hurt, or cheated he will never leave you or forsake you. I know times can be tough, so how about we make a deal? Put your trust on Him for one week, and pray. See what happens! You would be pleasantly surprised. He helped me in hard and he will help you too:).

10:40 i was told to chew as much as i can after surgery
I had the gastric sleave and so far ive been happy with the results
And before anyone asks the reason i did it was to shut up my dr and get my knee fixed (sadly a actual thing that has to be done due to medical gaslighting)

Eating Whole Foods, grass fed, no hormone and antibiotics infused meats, non- gmo, gluten free, diary or Lactaid free milk wild caught, organic fruits and vegetables and collagen peptides with all the vitamins and supplements is for me not a weight concern but health. I have lost track if the original research I referenced to justify a $250 a week bill on groceries is still valid.

Oprah probs not the best example. She's an older woman and was overweight and would've been told by her doctor she was either close to, or already pre-diabetic. Ozempic is great for insulin resistance, a medical endemic. Anyhow, I get the point of this video and appreciate her overall contention.

So I grew up with the skinny is beautiful brainwashing. Living with a mom who hated her plump body created a whole lot of problems with my view of my body. I grew up a fat kid, always bigger than my friends and learned at an early age that being overweight wasn’t attractive. So through the years of constant weight issues, body shaming, eating disorders… I have worked hard to be at the stage where I love my body and treat her like a friend instead of an enemy. I’m 39 and it’s so sad that I’ve hated my body on and off since I was eight years old. I don’t want to be skinny, I want to be healthy and kind to myself.

Since the Han dynasty, or some 2200 years ago, it was common for court ladies to die of starvation in pursuit of a thin waist. Thinness was always associated with youth. Same for the Egyptians and other Mediterranean civilizations for thousands of years. We all pack on girth as we age. We all want to look young. That is why we wear makeup and do our hair. This will never go away unless we lose fear of death and sickness. So it seems futile to discuss it
