I’ve seen people alluding to this online, but I haven’t been actively following ice spice recently, so I’ve been SO confused on why they kept referencing poopoo 😭
Ice Spice became the biggest lesson about how a social media following does NOT translate to album sales. Social media loves a brand, a clip, a "look", maybe your following will buy a viral product you promote. But the people who buy albums, especially in this digital age, are definitely looking at the music.
And how digital numbers can be fiddled with too. Does not translate to that much in real life, as you mentioned. And Latto, i think it was, said the same too about the stream artists.

@@UniquelySustainablethere's actually so much wrong in that 😅 Asian market is in no way influenced by American market especially considering one of the biggest music industry is Japan. They have their own charts and western artists aren't on there actually. So again, unless someone is heavy into US side of social media she isn't known... Like at all. In Europe I can't say I don't live there anymore but I will say Europe usually has it's own American token artists and from the people I know who live there and their surroundings no one listens to her or knows her songs. People might know her name, not her music
The one thing that was not mentioned in this video that pissed me off from Ice Spice is that her Y2K album had absolutely nothing to do with the Y2K era. There was no late 90s early 00s sounds at all. Anyone would have expected an Aaliyah sample or TLC sample, but instead you have her copying Nicki Minaj and trying so hard to sound like her and have her second single sound exactly like a Nicki song. Not only it's distasteful, but also Nicki became famous in the early 2010s, not early 2000s. She should have renamed and redid the album cover, and the entire sound and vibe of the album.
We simply hate industry plants Edit: my replies are showing for some reason: Ice spice was produced by RiotUSA who was founded by the son of DJ Enuff (who was Biggie's personal DJ and hashosted Hot 97 hip hop radio since 1998) and within a few months riot signed with Warner Chappelle (A Warner Music Group subsidiary) and a few months after that produced the main song for the Barbie Movie with Nikki Minaj. Ice spice came from the exact same class where Gayle released ABCDEFU after a "random tiktok commenter" told her to write s song using the alphabet. That commenter was actually Nancy Berman, a marketing producer for Atlantic records (also a wmg subsidary) who Gayle had already demo'd the song for. Like Ice Spice, Warner used Gayle to drive more traffic to its music on tiktok in the 2021-2022 era Ice Spice was an industry plant to get tiktok music market share and lead to listening to other WMG artists into the pipeline. Not just a queen from new york good at tiktok trends who happens to be a self made nobody. she was hand picked and planted and funded by WMG. Please do Shakira!! She’s been culturally relevant in the global music industry for 34 years. Her latest album this year had 2 global number ones and has been streamed over 3.4 billion times, has won her over 90 awards. It would be interesting to see your marketing analysis of an artist that puts out music in English / Spanish successfully as part of their brand. She’s considered that “blueprint” for any artist that wants to crossover and is consistently the most searched artist on Google.
Ice Spice problem is she's just not talented musically. She has good catchy quotable songs, she's not a album artist. She basically ruined her career by dropping an album. We all knew it wouldnt sell, and she probably did too. She should've just stuck to dropping a catchy lil single every few months for the "girlies" and her career wouldve been fine.

pitchfork has been a joke since the late ‘10s. millenials have been making fun of them for over a decade. i’m surprised people even pay them any attention. portlandia even has a skit about how dumb they are. it’s always been about what’s trendy, not musically sound. they peaked and died with hipsters.
ice spice alienating her girls girl image to become a well known mistress and hater of her peers in hip hop like cardi, latto, nicki, megan, etc... was the DUMBEST thing she could've done.
My favorite part about you is how mindfully honest you are, with recipts on deck. Very demure of you. We love a boss with class, eloquence, and brains. ❤
She just got exposed by her “friend” cleopatra for using her to make her look like a good person. She has a lot of entitlement and y’all let her get away with that. Even her beef with Latto is bigheaded. She’s been rapping since she was 15, been on the rap game and all yet ice spice is a new artist with no respect… interesting
I don't care whether she's an industry plant or not, she's lower than mediocre... 😭😭 Like it's hard not to judge her or cringe bro cause she gotta bring SOMETHING to the table but she refuses to
It's like hiring someone who lied on their resume and you find out they don't know how to turn on a computer. She either needs to have someone write for her and get a choreographer, or take the money she's made and run. She had her 15 minutes.
Let this be a lesson in if you’re not talented be kind because nobody got time for a mean hack talent. I’m so glad because she was never a vibe and her reign was a super low time in music.
as an e-marketing major startinf uni this fall i’m so glad i found ur channel you’ve combined two of my best interests, marketing and pr AND pop culture
The conclusion from a lot of these different cases (I just watched the Blake Lively video) …if you actually have something to offer, you’re talented in your field, the brand is there naturally. But when you manufacture a brand on top of a VOID…there’s no foundations! It all collapses very quickly!!
i would love love love to see you analyze billie eilish’s brand, rise to fame, etc!! obviously she’s doing super well in the industry and doesn’t need an SOS brand save in the slightest lol, but i’d be interested to see the framework behind the brand as well as why the initial reception between her first and second studio albums was so different - it would just make for a very interesting video :)
this one is easy: mainstream industry pushed her too far into the limelight too soon, and she was far from ready. they only did this because of the harmless (and later purposefully misunderstood) joke made about her name on The Adam Friedland Show episode that featured Matty Healy. it was an industry move made in vain for optics and revenge, but with no substance to fall back on and ruining Ice Spice's career in the process.
5:04 I completely forgot about this song until just now and how much of an absolute bop it is.... but looking back it like overinflated my expectations for ice spice
16:35 ppl who say she only raps abt that dont even listen to her music here are a bittt of the songs where she doesnt even talka bout that -plenty sun -euphoric -phat butt -did it first -gangsta boo -no clarity -on the radar -bikini bottom -butterfly ku -oh shh -ttyl -pretty girl -name of love -barbie world -munch (feelin u) -b-love btw im a zoeunlimited fan and as an ice spice fan, im so glad you arent actually shtting on her and actually tryna help or inform us and ur always so respectful
This is why Chappell Roan got so big- she has SO much good quality music to rely on now that’s she’s blown up instead of an artist scrambling to have a “message” after virality
I stan my fav artists (and some of them are also idols) for years to the point I can easily recognize an industry plant which badly tries to succeed and needs my attention so what I do is girl-glitter-GASLIGHT. I'm genuinely tired of that drama surrounding some artists and if they had any good music to back it all up it would not be a big of a deal but the most dramatic ones tend to have exactly opposite of what I call music/banger/hit/masterpiece
Omg im just in time, I love listening to your vids and doing homework at the same time. I actually feel motivated to do homework while listening to your vids lol.
Every time I see her name, I think of Vanilla Ice saying “Ice Ice Baby” but instead is “Ice Spice Baby” and it’s kind of cringe. With that fun thought out of the way, she wasn’t really that big outside of the US and I haven’t really heard a single song from her or at least I can’t recall one. When you think of Nicky Minaj pretty much everyone can think of Anaconda, when you think of Taylor Swift everyone can at least relate her to Shake it Off. Ice Spice is just kind of, there? I think it speaks leagues that I think of a song by another artist first whenever I hear her name rather than a song by her.
Do you think this is the downfall of Ice Spice? Thoughts on her new album: Y2K (and its lyrics loll)?

She was born in 2000. It's literally the same as Taylor Swift releasing an album called 1989..so...
Your videos are so calming even when you're talking about the most chaotic subjects :)
its not ''hot girl privilege'' not aging well (though it is a major part of it), its people actually getting cancelled 🤣
More like TikToker users are not consumers of music, being famous on TikTok means nothing
We simply hate industry plants
Edit: my replies are showing for some reason:
Ice spice was produced by RiotUSA who was founded by the son of DJ Enuff (who was Biggie's personal DJ and hashosted Hot 97 hip hop radio since 1998) and within a few months riot signed with Warner Chappelle (A Warner Music Group subsidiary) and a few months after that produced the main song for the Barbie Movie with Nikki Minaj.
Like Ice Spice, Warner used Gayle to drive more traffic to its music on tiktok in the 2021-2022 era
Ice Spice was an industry plant to get tiktok music market share and lead to listening to other WMG artists into the pipeline. Not just a queen from new york good at tiktok trends who happens to be a self made nobody. she was hand picked and planted and funded by WMG. Even now she's signed w 10k projects (a wmg subsidary) and capital records (A wmg subsidiary)
yes
I don't think you know what that means

What does an industry plant mean to you?
Please site your sources, not links but names of websites or articles.
"Credibility borrowed must be returned" is fact when she didn't credit Poiandkeely for her cover album art...
OMG when I saw your comment I thought it was me 😭
@@rycroftphilostratem3536 i thought bro responded to himself that is so trippy LOL
0:20 the discord notif sound had me FLAILING like who messaging me rn while I'm trying to watch??
Nobody is messaging you

She probably couldve done decently as a feature rapper.
You mean the Cardi B playbook?
PERFECT TIMING! I ALWAYS LISTEN TO YOUR VIDEOS WHILE DRAWING, AND I WAS ABOUT TO START AND SAW YOU UPLOADED A VIDEO!!!!!!
aww- what are you drawing?
HELP I DO THE SAME WITH CROCHETING THO
We used to have Ice Spice, now we have Water Cinnamon
NO WAY EASY ACTUALLY IT'S YOU OMG
I feel like her raps can classify as meme raps atp 😅
if you're new here- HIIII welcome!! We're doing deep dives every Thursday where as your marketing bestie- I will be analyzing the branding case studies of the pop culture influences in our lives. Tune in and feel free to send requests via comments!💜 Episodes also avalailable on spotify and apple apple.co/zoeunlimited open.spotify.com/show/0ZReedpR6Bf1kvHeKBuWY1
PLS DO SABRINA CARPENTER
Why do you claim that pale skin is an attractive feature for a black woman to have? How racist
Can you change the discord notification sound that you use so much in your video? Its really distracting and inconvenient.
Omg I love that you are doing a marketing series! I love more analytical style videos and I love pop culture, this video is like a marriage of both! I’ll be tuned in from here on out.
Her same flow with munch
Pitchfork giving "Y2k" 7.6 and "born to die" 5,5 is wild
Knowing "Born to Die" is literally the 10's classic.
@@Lets_have_some_sense_ they must like the fart songs
Hopefully the payout was worth it because I don't know how they're going to be seen to neutrally review anything now, especially because they have made Y2k the new baseline for 7.6 LMAO
pitchfork has been a joke since the late ‘10s. millenials have been making fun of them for over a decade. i’m surprised people even pay them any attention. portlandia even has a skit about how dumb they are. it’s always been about what’s trendy, not musically sound. they peaked and died with hipsters.
she paid them with fart jars.
@7:46 *I literally thought people were making fun of her "I'm the shit and fart" rap but this is literally how she raps... :/
Singing about pooping and farting on like every track is NOT it no matter how pretty you are.
Looks and biology is what makes people open their doors but it's your personality and mind that ensures that you won't get kicked back out.
and today ice was exposed for being a narcissist by her friend cleotrapa
ice spice alienating her girls girl image to become a well known mistress and hater of her peers in hip hop like cardi, latto, nicki, megan, etc... was the DUMBEST thing she could've done.
her and the pink sauce lady is perfect examples that its not always about you hustling, but pure pure luck
Hi Zoe, would you do a little tutorial (?) on how to improve your own brand as a random person? Thank you
Agreed!!
Just don't use of
Nah Drake was just thirsty for a girl half his age.
My favorite part about you is how mindfully honest you are, with recipts on deck. Very demure of you. We love a boss with class, eloquence, and brains. ❤
You look so pretty omgg that outfit is stunningggg

This channel has become my favourite within a week❤
💜💜
She just got exposed by her “friend” cleopatra for using her to make her look like a good person. She has a lot of entitlement and y’all let her get away with that. Even her beef with Latto is bigheaded. She’s been rapping since she was 15, been on the rap game and all yet ice spice is a new artist with no respect… interesting
I never liked ice spices music tbh
There’s like no personality behind it
Glad I wasn't the only one🤦🏾♀️
Me neither. Her personality is A-O.K., but that's about it.
I liked her a little bit but then I started getting annoyed by seeing her everywhere and all the drama like no
Her music is legit trash. Her being unable to rap does not help either.
Everyone's talking about Ice Spice, but can we mention how Zoe graduated TOP 1%? And from UCLA, no less
Glazin
that’s not a real thing you know
Wait, She's a Zuma Cum Laude?
pls also make a video on katy perry about her pop royalty status from 2009 up until.. whatever is happening now w/ "143"
i used to be a KP fan
Great context, love this branding deconstruction.
Please make a video on Chappell Roan, how she did this (correctly). Great music and branding.
9:45 I giggled at that headline 😭
We all know the Taylor Swift collab was just TS trying to save face after her bf Matty Healy made racist comments about Ice Spice
I don't care whether she's an industry plant or not, she's lower than mediocre... 😭😭 Like it's hard not to judge her or cringe bro cause she gotta bring SOMETHING to the table but she refuses to
How does an industry plant not get one hit single though?
Look what she did to mad was unacceptable but why are people only blaming her and not central cee ?
Misogynie 🎵🎵
Lots of people are blaming Central Cee, but he has too many fans saying "idc I still love him tho 🤪"
they’re both equally bad
another great video zoe!!!!
aww tyyy!🙏🏼
I hope whoever gave Taylor the idea of working with her is fired
Matt Healy
It was a pr stunt because Taylor was dating a r*cist singer that made racially degrading statements about Ice Spice on a podcast
One thing I've identified is if you're an up and coming artist and drake wants to collaborate then it's safe to say you're gonna be a one hit wonder.
You, salem, lenalifts, rebal and layze are my comfort channels. Yall make my day and feelings better
Hi Patricia!! I’m Patricia 🤭
as an e-marketing major startinf uni this fall i’m so glad i found ur channel you’ve combined two of my best interests, marketing and pr AND pop culture
The legend has dropped another video❤
I am earlly !! But its midnight here....
awww have a good night!🌙
I wish whoever is out here scouting would actually scout TALENT. That used to be a requirement for fame. I think we should go back to that.
When ice spice STARTED to trend, i already told my friend that she would fall off/not last long.. too much fame with lack of talent, diversity etc..
love this new series but I would also lo9ve to see you analyze guys! :)
i love watching drama breakdown videos about people i have never heard of before!
that ad segue was smoother than my brain! zoe you're amazing 😍
The conclusion from a lot of these different cases (I just watched the Blake Lively video) …if you actually have something to offer, you’re talented in your field, the brand is there naturally. But when you manufacture a brand on top of a VOID…there’s no foundations! It all collapses very quickly!!
i never understood why people find her so hot...and i still do
i thought she genuinely had fetal alcohol syndrome
i would love love love to see you analyze billie eilish’s brand, rise to fame, etc!! obviously she’s doing super well in the industry and doesn’t need an SOS brand save in the slightest lol, but i’d be interested to see the framework behind the brand as well as why the initial reception between her first and second studio albums was so different - it would just make for a very interesting video :)
this one is easy: mainstream industry pushed her too far into the limelight too soon, and she was far from ready. they only did this because of the harmless (and later purposefully misunderstood) joke made about her name on The Adam Friedland Show episode that featured Matty Healy. it was an industry move made in vain for optics and revenge, but with no substance to fall back on and ruining Ice Spice's career in the process.
5:04 I completely forgot about this song until just now and how much of an absolute bop it is.... but looking back it like overinflated my expectations for ice spice
Selling your body gets you FARRRRR.
Your series on the insides of marketing is genuinely so helpful 😭👌 incredible stuff, you slay girl

You are the type of person that literally eats the exams on university because of true passion. You are really great and well spoken 👍🏻

btw im a zoeunlimited fan and as an ice spice fan, im so glad you arent actually shtting on her and actually tryna help or inform us and ur always so respectful
This is why Chappell Roan got so big- she has SO much good quality music to rely on now that’s she’s blown up instead of an artist scrambling to have a “message” after virality
16:15 my edit mentioned 🔥‼(i've made it in life)
Journalism and marketing student and you are already speaking to my soul. 1:55
You really broke this down perfectly.
Honestly, this video was quite underwhelming. A lot of topics were repeated multiple times. The substance of the video was probably 4mins worth.
ive never seen your channel before but your hair is amazing
It is but her analysis is amazing, she is far more than her fab hair
I stan my fav artists (and some of them are also idols) for years to the point I can easily recognize an industry plant which badly tries to succeed and needs my attention so what I do is girl-glitter-GASLIGHT. I'm genuinely tired of that drama surrounding some artists and if they had any good music to back it all up it would not be a big of a deal but the most dramatic ones tend to have exactly opposite of what I call music/banger/hit/masterpiece
She never seemed into being a musician. The passion and authenticity isn't there.
Ice Spice has to be an industry plug. All these artists collabing with her and she isn’t even on beat.
I think it speaks leagues that I think of a song by another artist first whenever I hear her name rather than a song by her.
it all started when she lost her real brand… her thickness😂😂😂
She’s still thicc fym😂
i've been watching your videos for a while... and i love this new series! you really impressed me. you just gained a new subscriber ❤❤
cancel me- but when was ice spice "hot"?
😂😂😂 ❤ not canceled in my book
Good question I never found her pretty not ugly just … average
Obviously beauty is subjective. It doesn't take a rocket scientists to know that hot in this context means "conventionally attractive."
When she sticks her tongue out she kinda looks like she has down syndrome.
Instead of concentrating on "branding" concentrate on reputation, morals, and manners.
Drake getting interested when the song was young.
he wanted to smell her farts.
