Yikes - Not too many interviews make me, tear -up but this 73 year old Dad, just wiped a tear.
I just sent the video to my son, a civilization boat captain and new business owner. And I’m buying the book for him too. (After I read it, of course)Thanks Nasty and Wombat.

Wombat I'm the high school kid you talked about, I've wanted to fly anything I'm given for a while (RAAF doesn't have as many opportunities as you yanks get) and this hour of two guys talking has given me so much more insight than any day at school would give towards how I approach leading (and the boat). Thank you so much, for absolutely smashing this one out of the park. Getting the book ASAP

Nasty’s style of leadership is so incredibly effective, and yet so inexplicably rare. I’m blessed to have served with a few servant leader/badasses like him, and try my hardest to live up to their example. Thanks for a great interview, can’t wait to buy the book.

I agree. I don't know him personally but can tell his people wanted to work for and with him. I was Air Force but I remember the good commanders/leaders and then the other ones. It's unfortunate that moving into the civilian world leadership like his is very rare indeed.

These interviews are possibly my favorite genre of the channel. This particular interview is truly exceptional, partially because the Admiral is a very interesting and engaging guest but also because Wombat has shown how good of an interviewer he is. It might have something to do with the relationship between the two gentlemen; in any case the audience benefits greatly. Thank you for the interview, Mover and Wombat!

WOW! I knew this interview was coming up and had no idea what to expect. I’ve seen Nasty interviews on other channels - and he’s an incredible person with #amazing stories - and I’ve watched over a hundred hours of fast jet videos, but this was without doubt the BEST. Incredibly inspiring, humble and down to earth leadership lessons and examples and can’t wait to read and compare notes with Captain Abrashoff’s “It's Your Ship: Management Techniques from the Best Damn Ship in the Navy.”
@Wombat - #Awesome interview, well done sir, and @Mover - thanks for making this possible and hosting. PLEASE invite Nasty back to share some of his legendary aviator experiences!!
PS - @Mover WTH, seems we need a fundraiser for IT infrastructure for these guys - some of your best interviews (Oral) and streams (Gonky) have less bandwidth horsepower than a moped.

As a Petty Officer I learned very quickly who was a great leader and I always tried to emulate them in some way. I had a really great Skipper in VA-37 Jimmy “Jet” O’Hora he was a very calm cool Officer, for some reason he thought a lot of me and I did everything I could for him especially when I knew he wouldn’t see me or the results. He got me to think about going back to college and finish, my plan was to return as an officer and he and some other officers did everything they could to help me. I can see the leadership not only in Nasty as he has been on Ward Carrell’s RUclips channel and especially as Wombat has interviewed him I can see how much his skills and leadership have been impacted by Wombat.
Thank you from an old AE Troubleshooter who loved shooting you gentlemen off the bow.

Wombat this is one of the best interviews of it's kind I have ever seen !! The respect and affection that you and Nasty have for one another is so evident, your interactions display what Nasty is discussing- modeling leadership, involvement in the lives of those serving with you, inspiring, and building relationship. You are clearly both warm, heart-centered people and you both convey that here. Thank you , Wombat, and thank you, Admiral Manazir, Sir , for being who you are and bringing so much beautiful energy and synastry to us. I have been in love with the navy all my life, partly because it's in my DNA , I suppose. I wound up going Air Force but I worked as a civilian for NAS Whidbey later on. I had tears in my eyes watching, just because my heart was so touched and also, this conversation brought back all the reasons why I love the Navy the culture, and Naval Aviation so much. Absolutely I am adding Nasty's book right next to yours on my "next to purchase items" list, Wombat. (Plus more Spectre novels, Mover!) Saving this interview, and will treasure the books! ( not to mention .... I think I will purchase your Tshirt first, next week. ) Both of you , like Mover, are helping me and many others to get over the hump of huge life transitions and to look forward to what life can bring in the next chapter. Beyond wow ! :) * And thank you, Mover, for hosting this interview. You and Wombat both are extraordinally good interviewers! (said from my own perspective as a journalist .) ** It would be fun to hear all three of you shooting the breeze together on the channel ! :)

I think I had the same initial feeling about RADM Manazir's book that Wombat described. Going into it you might think it's just another 'leadership how to' from a retired flag that isn't going to have much applicability to anybody outside of that community. The more you get into these stories you realize that these are lessons in the mindset and behaviors needed to enable others to fulfill their potential and thereby improve any sort of organization; be it a family, business or military unit. RADM Manazir embodies the characteristics of almost all the outstanding leaders I have worked for, both in the Navy and civilian world; competence and confidence.
I'm so glad Mover let Wombat do this interview. Wombat's personal and professional ties with RADM Manazir made for an interesting, compelling discussion. I've seen RADM Manazir promoting his book on other channels, but this interview had a significantly different feel, thanks to Wombat's input. A long form interview like this presents a different side of Wombat that is not always apparent from his other appearances on Mover's channel. So often when he is with Mover he's acting as the snarky, sarcastic sideman. When he is leading the discussion we see a much more thoughtful, nuanced character emerge.

Great interview, Wombat. The love and respect you have for Nasty is really evident, and it made it very special. I just finished Rear Arm Manazir's book and it was incredible. He's spot on about what makes a great leader. I have no military connection whatsoever (I'm a teacher) but I have been blessed to work for some incredible leaders (principals, administrators), and when I think back on what made them great it's exactly what he talks about. I highly recommend the book.
BTW Wombat I read your book this summer and I loved it!

Thanks to Nasty for being so human, so natural, honest and down to earth. I can imagine how much fun it was to serve under his comand. It's an ability that not many leaders have anymore as they are scared shi*tless to take responsibility for anything that is not exactly by the rules. I will go and get your book sure.

This was interesting, as I have rarely been a leader, let alone a good leader.
As I look back on my different work situations, from age 64, I feel elated to think that problems might have been responsive (better) to a different attitude. Same for not-work situations. The part about being a good follower is interesting too - in light of it’s hinted relationship to leadership, I may have not been as good under authority as I have thought. ... Am happy to learn, just in case YOLO turns out to be false. ~8O
Another cool takeaway, Nasty, Sir, is that you give “inclusivity” a good name lol. Truth.
