Free Willy is a 1993 American family drama film directed by Simon Wincer, produced by Lauren Shuler Donner and Jennie Lew Tugend, and written by Keith A. Walker and Corey Blechman from a story by Walker. The film stars Jason James Richter as a foster boy who befriends a captive orca.
I freaking LOVE free Willy. I was born in ‘92 when the movie came out. I grew up with it as well. And I’ve grown to LOVE orcas and do lots of research. I’m big at trying to help whales in captivity. I’d love for them to go to a sea pen soon. And they made 3 Willy movies :) thanks for this!!
This was actually a pretty big movie for Oregon , they filmed from Portland to Oregon coast and some in Mexico
I am from Mexico and I had the chance to met Keiko here and it was THE BEST DAY OF MY CHILDHOOD 🤩 , I wish some day I can visit those locations too!

I love how you went over to the location during the scene where Willy jumps over Jesse, which is really cool that’s one of the coolest things in the film. I’ve watched this film and it’s my childhood. I’m sad that kaiko the whale who played Willy is not alive anymore, but his performance in this film will always always be remembered. I’ve watched all three of the movies, but I like the first one because Jesse is pretty young there

Hey Karen how is everything? Please give my love to all my family down there and I promise once I’m home in Toronto in May I’ll be able to correspond a lot better with everyone. I've been to Oregon a couple times in the mid 90s and even saw the one time tank where Keiko resided at the aquarium in Newport, Oregon, which was under construction at the time.

this movie inspired me so much at 12 when it came out that i wrote a letter to Sea World about my love for marine mammals and they sent me some really cool stuff including a better quality whale necklace like you got with the copy of the VHS. wish i would have kept the stuff through the years.

I LOVE Free Willy! I was pretty obsessed as a kid, even my brother knew the whole plot probably word for word lol. I can't even count how many times I watched as a kid, I probably wore out the tape! Oh, fun fact too, those 3 little black spots on his "chin"? They're unique to him ❤
Back then, before I understood what captivity really was or how big they truly were, I thought it would be fun (and plausible) to get one to keep in our 4 foot above ground pool as a pet 😂
Oh and the Michael song used in it, GOLD!! As an adult those soft spoken words near the end are so powerful ❤
I don't know if anything remains at the site now as far as markers or anything, but I know due to the circumstances of Keiko's (real name) life, that they made the effort to have a land burial for him. Somewhere in Iceland? Not that I'm expecting you to go in the slightest lol, but just wanted to mention. I actually watched a few documentaries on his life not too long ago. He was so close to true freedom after the film

Keiko played they whale!! I’m cryin again😅😂 we spent our summers in Newport, OR. I LOVE whales colllect anything whale 😅! This was awesome! I know this is one of your old ones! Haven’t seen all your stuff! But had to see this. My folks donated money to help the reconstruction. The new entry to The Aquarium that housed Keiko is bricks with the names who donated! To help the animals 😂free the whales! Nicely funny done! It’s been ages since I’ve seen it!! Llama oh dear too many faces!! Ps I’m glad you didn’t get stuck we have! I’ll stop now!😂

Ugh, memories😞 loved this video and I love 🦒 my favorite animals like for real🥰 I kissed a giraffe 🦒 on his gibbers and jibbers🤣❤️🦒🤤 then I fed them carrots 🥕 and lettuce 🥬 by hand a couple of times at Living Treasures in a Pittsburgh zoo! Famous graves idea: Keiko was released in Iceland in 2002 but was found dead in a bay in Norway in 2003. He was buried near the shore and you can visit the site marked by a pile of rocks.
this was one of my favorite movies growing up! i actually just watched it again not long ago... Scott i love your videos and will always support your channel because you do a lot of stuff people haven't like filmed the kurt cobain stuff etc, but you also talk so much that i'm just dying to see what you're gonna show us and it seems like forever before we see it. i'm not hating just saying seems like a lot of the time it's a lot of nothing before you show stuff, but it's your channel so i can't stop that lol.. and i laughed atyou walking around with the bush in your hair and nobody even thought nothing of it.

I would love to visit back there one day. I absolutely LOVED the Pacific Northwest. I really felt at home there and I can’t say enough good things about it. I’m not able to get back there for awhile but hopefully one day. Ya Willy!

I just decided to re watch this flick because... why not. It's awesome..
You forgot the opening scenes.. Pioneer Square and burnside skate park... Though..
As watching the opening. Pioneer square still looks like that today. The only thing that changes are the decorations per events that go on there.. It appears the scene where they're counting the money was at the courthouse side of the park.. but when they raid the diners table after the family got up.. I had to google earth it and clock back to the 90's and find that, that scene had to have been filmed where the current Fox tower is standing.. Because in the scene. You see to the left the red brick of the nordstrom store, with the tall trees, and the max drive by.. and when they kids run off and get 'chased down' by the waiter.. you see the pioneer clock in the upper right. so that would have put them in current day at/near fox tower, and directors park..

I love free Willy and I love free willy 2 the adventure home and free willy 3 the rescue and I watch it I was kid with my parents and I cry
I was able to visit him while he was at the aquarium in oregon. My mom has pictures of me my brother and sister with him in his tank.

You probably know roughly where I live if I tell you I went to school with Joel Scott Hill's daughter. The Flying Burrito Brothers, Cat Mother, Booker T & many others loved this area of the N. Hey Scott, I am about 4 hrs. north of San Fran. Have you heard or perhaps been to the village of Mendocino? Most of the guys had houses just a bit inland, like Comptche, where Rev. Coolidge had a church until he passed. Bonnie Raitt used to have a good piece of property near there. She & her dad used to play at The Caspar Inn. Anyway, I live in a small town about 15 minutes north of Mendo. Many movies have been filmed around here. Have you been up this way along Hwy 1? It's a beautiful place to live, if you like small towns. Willie Nelson sang a song about the Mendocino County line.

TECHNICALLY there were 4 movies ....BUT the 4th one DOESNT COUNT as it didn't have any of the original characters and it was a different willy. 1st was "Free Willy" 2nd is "The Adventure Home" the 3rd is "The Rescue" and then the 4th with Bindi Irwin is called "Escape From Pirate's Cove" .....and btw Lori Petty was "ok" in Tank Girl....but she was AMAZING in A League Of Their Own!!

Have you Seen black fish? I was never scared of whales until I saw that. I am from south Florida and used to have a phobia of sting rays but forced myself to overcome it. You won't catch me anywhere near a whale though. 😂
