This has always been and still is my FAVORITE movie growing up. My great grama would babysit me & I would watch this movie prob 5 times a day when i was little. When she passed away I put this movie in with her casket as a finale goodbye. Thanks for doing this video. R.I.P River Phoenix, he was my 1st crush growing up ❤❤
Michael and Jessica, NO ONE does movie locations better than you both. Absolutely loved this video. Ty for all the time and effort you put into this to bring it to us..much appreciated!!😄😄
This movie was an 80's nostalgic look back into the world of 1950's childhood, and now we nostalgically look back at movies from the 1980's as part of our childhood. I often wonder if 30-40 years from now, people will be looking at old RUclips videos and nostalgically remember this time.
Such a great movie. I was 13 seeing it in the theater and I'm now a few months from turning 50. Interesting to see what it all looks like now. All those memorable scenes.
I have never seen this movie and I’ve never been on this channel, but it does look quite interesting, seeing where movies were filmed! In 1986, I was 27 with a 2 year old toddler and a five-year-old.❤❤❤ Back in those long days ago, kindergarten was half days! And for that matter, families could make it on one paycheck 😢😰
August ‘85 I was camping with my folks at Burney Falls and rented a boat on Lake Britton. Cruising up toward the trestle, there was a steam locomotive and film crew. The actors were not on set yet. We scrambled up to check it out and my dad asked the director what the film was. He kindly responded “The Body” (name of the book). I remember an elevated false section of track 10 feet up on one side to make an illusion the boys were on the trestle but keep them safe. We left before the historic shot took place.
This is one of my all time favorite films!!! My Mom found it on DVD at Dollar General of all places and it became an instant favorite!!! It is sad that most of what you see in the film is no longer there. It is also sad that River Phoenix is gone. I see him being one of today's biggest name actors. Also legendary. His star faded way too soon!!!
In spite of how tough they are supposed to be, boys, especially at that age are very fragile. I love this movie, because it emphasizes that fact; and also, that as time passes, the worlds in which we were raised slowly fade into memory. Beautiful evocation of emotion without excess. Plus that score. Perfect.
I was 22 years old in 1986 so I didn’t see stand by me until about ten years later with my two sons. I fell in love with that movie when viewing it with my kids. Eventually I purchased a vcr tape of that movie and broke every record of viewing a movie. This movie touched me spiritually not to sound like a kook. You guys presented this Stand By Me documentary very well! Thank you for showing and producing this. You handled this with the tenderness that this movie deserved.
This has got to be one ☝🏼 of my favorite videos. What an iconic piece of movie 🎥 history!! I still adore watching this film and it takes me back to such a warm place growing up. Thank you guys so much for taking us back!! 🌲🛤️🌳
This was a bittersweet video for me. I love Stand By Me growing up and still love it to this day. Seeing how a lot of the places really hasn't changed much is pretty great to see.
Love this movie, I introduced it to my 3 kids a few months back. It's now one of my boys favorite movies. It's one of those movies that will stand the test of time and live forever.
I lived in Grants Pass for a while and I was struck by how beautiful the cemeteries were, and in fall they looked like something straight out of an old spooky movie, complete with crooked old trees and rod iron fences and low-lying fog and headstones of every shape and size. Thanks you two for making this video. I really liked it alot 💀
I was 12 when I saw this in theaters back in '86.... Being the same age as the characters really made it feel more personal for me. It had a huge impact....I still love it to this day. Takes me right back to being a kid....It really is an American classic.
I absolutely love this movie. Gives me a great sense of nostalgia. I was 6 in 1986, so this was right in my youth - and what an awesome looking place. Very serene and pleasant.
I'm watching this again for the 3rd time, and I'm sure there will be a 4th and a 5th. I've seen filming location videos for Stand By Me before, and they are very good, but nothing compares to this. So much heart is put into this. You can just hear the excitement and passion in Michael's voice. I guess he loved this movie growing up as much as I did..
I have always loved this movie. I was sixteen when it came out watching it in the theater with my friends. Now watching it after River left us it always almost makes me cry when he fades away after his story is told at the end about what has happened to each of them. Thank you so much for making this and sharing it with us.
Brilliant. Thoroughly enjoyed it and was brilliant the way Grimmlife done it in scene order. Absolutely loved this film as a kid in the 80s. I’m from Liverpool U.K, and America seemed like a fantasy land. Was in awe when went to Orlando for first time in 1996. America was everything I thought it would be. Absolutely loved it.
A fun fact about Stand by me that most people didnt know was that it actually aired on the channel cinemax before its theatrical release..Cinemax was having a big summer movie premier except they wouldnt disclose the name of the movie they was premiering until it aired..well a week before the theater release cinemax had their big summer movie special and sure enough it was Stand by me..ill never forget actually having the vcr on standby to record it then having the movie at my fingertips the whole summer of 86..i remember rewatching it dozens of time that summer ..what a great year and summer that was..probably the best summer ever for movies as a kid..thanks for the memories grim life you never disappoint..
SBM has such a special place in my heart. My first 'love' was River and I watched this film over a hundred times. I haven't watched it in at least a decade and could prolly still quote it word for word. Thanks for this. The loss of River is still felt.
I grew up in the 80's, so being a kid always has a heightened amount of magic in films, but I truly know it is a work of art and is always on my top 20 list.
Brilliant! One of my favorite memories as a kid is sneaking downstairs, army crawling by the door and couch in family room, peaked around the corner and dad is asleep. That famous HBO intro started indicating a new movie is coming up and it’s probably midnight. I watched every second of this movie and loved it as I was the kid that could leave the house and just explore with or without friends. Those were great memories to bring back when I saw this in my feed. Thank you.
One of my all-time favourite movies, me and my friends could act the whole dialogue of this movie in the early neinties, and looked very much like Gordie when I was young😆
It was an awesome movie. So sad that River Phoenix is not around anymore. Rip Rivers Phoenix you well always be within our heart. Your one of a kind legend.
You two are amazing. The Body/Stand By Me is quite possibly my favorite story of all time. Thank you for this video. Hope you had fun making it even though it was a big undertaking. Keep doing what your doing. We all appreciate it more than you know.
It’s surreal how much I relate with this movie. My older brother died when I was 11 years old and dealt with my parents in a major depression. My best friend at the time was so similar to the character river phoenix played with how he was always there to both get into trouble with and stick up for me when I needed it. Fast forward 20+ years and I still get weirded out by the similarities.
Back when movies were filmed rough and raw and unapologetic. I don’t think we’ll ever get a film like this again. I’m amazed how much in the country this all still is. That was a long time ago! (Btw ….what a grand ole treat you gave us 👍👍)
I don’t know how you guys manage to find all these spots, but all of us watching appreciate the time and dedication you put into it to take us there. This one is right up there with your Goonies locations video. Incredible.
This was such a great movie. It is pretty sad, but also meaningful because each of the kids has demons they wrestle with, and they are some pretty serious ones.
Turned out along with Corey Feldman, Will Wheaton was wrestling with his own demons at the time. He revealed in recent years that he was sort of forced into acting by his parents and and suffered emotional abuse by his parents . He did love his time on the set of SBM though for the most part. But the stardom it brought him made the emotional abuse worse. A movie he did shortly after SBM called The Curse was a horrible experience according to him. He has been estranged from his parents for years as I understand it.
@@adamn7516 It does suck knowing what some of these child actors were put through to make movies that brought us so much enjoyment. I loved Will Wheaton's character in this. I felt so awful for in that one emotional scene at the end by the campfire. Death is tragic, and it is sad enough when an adult wishes they were dead. But your heart really breaks when you hear a kid say it. You kind of have to wonder, if you are familiar with "method acting" how much of their real demons were be channeled in some of these scenes.
@@ZetaReticuli_ I think watching the behind the scenes, Rob Reiner chose them because they were very similar to their characters in temperament. He also had them hang out together to help them create a bond and camaraderie.
Thank you Michael and Jessica for creating this amazing content! Stand By Me is one of my favourite films and as I live in the UK you've shown me locations of the film Ive never seen on other videos so thank you for the time and effort and research you put in. It really is appreciated!!!! Please keep up the great work guys, your content is just Awsome!
I am 39 and have loved this movie since I was 11 and it was played on TV randomly. I always wondered where the body scene was filmed, that’s crazy that they built all the train tracks and that the leech pond and campfire were the same place! I’ve really learned a lot from this!
I was 10 years old when this film came out and it was a staple of my childhood in the 1980's.. the greatest decade a kid could have in the Steel City. Amazing job to both of you! Pittsburgh proud my friend.
Great video you guys! Nobody does filming locations better than you two. I love Stand By Me and can quote the whole movie word for word. I was 11 years old when this came out and my dad took me to see it in the theater. Every time I watch it, I think of my dad (who passed away last year) and think back to my childhood and growing up in the iconic and wonderful decade that was the 80's. I miss those times soooo much and would give anything to be able to go back. Thank you guys so much for this! You both are truly blessed to have the time and means to be able to go to all of these iconic and beautiful places. Much love and safe travels!
Such details i love it!! That's how to show filming locations. I was 15 in 1986. Love all things 80s. I was raised 25 minutes from Stephen King's house in Bangor Maine. Great video.
Michael, I watch several different channels on filming locations and yours ALWAYS are done with perfection. All the angles, details and info you give us makes me feel like I’m literally there. Thank you for the kick ass content! 👊🏻
Like yourself the little alleyway, where Chris Chambers and Gordy were instantly brought back memories of being a kid and watching this. Thank you my friend and many blessings to you Also, have to mention I always had a connection with Chris, because we shared the same last name Chambers!!!
This one of my favorite movies of all time, and I was wondering if you guys would ever do a Grimm Life adventure on it. I saw this twice in the theater back in 1986, when I was ten, going on eleven years old. Not too much younger than the kids in the film. I don't know about you, but this accurately depicts a Generation X childhood. The only thing missing are the BMX or mountain bikes. We'd go on little bike rides to malls, hang out at the arcade, or go through the local countryside. Today's kids aren't allowed to go outside!
Just found this channel. These videos are fun. I’m binging. I really do miss how films were made in the 80s. Stand by me is one of my favorite movies. Along with several on this channel.
You Really Out Did Yourselves Grimmlove 🔥I Love Stand by Me as well, means so much to me! The Town and Area is Preserved in time! We want to go visit someday! Thanks for posting❤️🔥✨
I was 11 when this was in the theater in Portsmouth RI ...my uncle took me and to this day, one of my favorites. hello from Gatlinburg TN Smoky Mountains Park 🏞️🌄🐻... Beautiful filming locations
I watched this movie the first time on VHS. I was in Pagosa Springs CO and there was no cable or satellite. All we had was a VCR for days when the weather was bad. The older family spent the entire summer up there and us kids would spend a couple weeks or so. We spent more time on the lake or in the trees. We were like these kids in a way, minus the dead body. Lol! I love this movie. It brings back so many great memories.
Great job Michael and Jessica! I think you captured the essence and spirit of this movie as you went along your own journey and adventure finding these locations. I always get transported back to the age of about 12 watching this movie, as it reminds me of the friends, adventures, care free spirit and optimistic attitude I had at that age. It must of felt really cool actually finding these iconic locations.
I still remember like it was yesterday, I was a young teenager and my mom took me to see Stand By Me at the theater. I fell in love with River and the whole movie. Michael your genuine excitement for the nostalgia of these locations comes through in your videos and make them that much better. I have always loved your lining up the shots & Jessica’s re-enactments. Love love love you guys!! 💚🖤👍
I’m 64 with 3 adult kids, 40, 33 and 31 - I was busy working but I remember all the VHS , CDs and DVDs ; it was hard to keep up. ❤❤❤Great work, Thank you❤❤❤
The attention to detail here is 2nd to none. I loved this 80s film and was great to reminisce back to pre CGI days. A lot of work must of gone into making this. Keep up the good work, it’s outstanding👏
This was the first movie I ever watched that made me feel like I was on that adventure with them ! They just don’t make movies like this anymore. Thanks for taking us on this trip with you !
That was some sweet editing work with having the original scene of the kids running away after firing the gun then having it fade in flawlessly to the same modern day spot. 👍 To me that was really cool
I don’t make a ton of comments on RUclips videos, but I had to say thank you for making this video. One of my favorite movies of all time, and I believe probably one of the best videos you guys have ever done.
Hope you are enjoying my beautiful state of Oregon! So glad you came here again to do more filming. Proud of my state and love seeing it in films. You guys ALWAYS do the very best at giving the details of where, when and how. Nobody else compares! Thank you.
Well done Michael and Jessica! I worked in a movie theatre when Stand By Me had its first run in 1986 and it clicked with me right away. I grew up in the Northern Ky area and my friends and I would always walk the railroad tracks when we were the same age as the boys in the movie. I've shared Stand By Me with my son, now also 12yrs old, so it holds alot of meaning to me. Your approach to every video you do is outstanding. The efforts to share locations with us, your respect to the current landowners and your heartfelt emotions are what makes your Filming Location videos stand above the rest. I've mentioned your videos to several friends of mine that also worked in the theatres, being fans of the "back stories" and how they're made. You've made me a fan!
I am so happy you both made this video. This movie is one of my favorites of all time. Nothing like this movies can’t be made now and days. I thank you!! Love you guys!!
Out of all your filming locations videos, this is my favorite. One of the best movies ever and this was such a thorough tour. I enjoyed every bit of it. Thank you!
Great Video as usual. Back in 2014 my band was on tour. I demanded we stop by this town because it was only 10 mins off the main highway on I-5. When we drove down the main strip in our tour van i screamed out the window a bunch of time "My dad stormed the beaches or Normandy!!" Some Harley bikers weren't impressed and flipped us off. I asked the drummer of the band to slow down at the bikers and asked "Where is Eye-Ball Chambers??" they stood up aggressively and we prompt left. Good times
This was awesome! Thanks for all the hard work that went into this video and thanks for sharing it with us. Stand By Me is one of my most favorite 80s movies ever. 👍👍
It's crazy with the treehouse.....you can see it right away with the branches....too bad they didn't keep it up,sob How time has changed with these kids.....R.I.P River Phoenix. For me, it's like another lifetime ago. It's always nice when you have such perfect weather to film a video. Blowing the dandelion Jessica, I remember when I was a kid I made the mistake of having it too close to my mouth. I deeply inhaled by my mouth in the hopes I could really, really blow hard out.....I ended up inhaling it all in my mouthI did eat it, lol This is a great movie, but I always found it brought sadness to me......youth, discovery, adventure, emotion, all described in the movie as a memory of the past of what once was. People of our past now just a memory. I loved that railway bridge....it was super cool to see. With it closed off, I might have been tempted to walk it, but I'm not good with heights?? It was great that there were still remnants left of that water tower As a kid, that leach scene actually happened to me, and yes, the leach was in the exact same area as it was with Gordy. I was a kid swimming in an area known for leaches (or what I called, bloodsuckers), and when that leach was discovered, I friggin screamed As always, a great video/story Happy Halloween🎃🎃🎃🎃
I'am from Poland and i watched movie in 1995 or 1996. The movie is great and remain in my heart forever. I fell in love with oregon nature and small towns. I hope to move to Brownsville someday even though I'm 40. Greetings to all who live in this town. You live in a beautiful place. God willing, I would like to live there. Sorry for my English.
I just want to say, I enjoyed the heck out of this episode. This has to be the best movie I've seen in my life. Thank you both for taking us on this tour. I remember when I first saw the preview on tv the sound was off but when I saw the scene of the boys walking on the trestle over the river, I knew right away that they had turned the short story "The Body" into a movie as I had read it a couple of years before. I was so excited! Thanks again, Michael and Jessica!

80s coming of age movies just had a different feel to them. No cgi, on locations rather than just on a sound stage, narrations, just magical.
Yep.
They used two different locomotives for the movie
and no fake moralism in it, maybe not this movie as an ex. but many others yes
Pure Nostalgia!
It was a great time to grow up. I would give anything to go back.

I am 39 and have loved this movie since I was 11 and it was played on TV randomly. I always wondered where the body scene was filmed, that’s crazy that they built all the train tracks and that the leech pond and campfire were the same place! I’ve really learned a lot from this!
Nobody does filming locations like you guys. Love this movie.
Loved this movie as a kid, Born and raised in Eugene Oregon. Been to Brownsville many times.
Oregon Trail was the most cutting edge video game graphics of the time. Just the fact that we had them was a miracle.
I was 10 years old when this film came out and it was a staple of my childhood in the 1980's.. the greatest decade a kid could have in the Steel City. Amazing job to both of you! Pittsburgh proud my friend.
1980s and 1990s. They sure don't make em like that anymore.
It was 37 years ago
Same here brother. I was 11 and this movie had such an impact on my childhood.
One of favourite films from my childhood awesome seeing the filming locations
I would not bear it. Being there and realizing how time has passed and never will come back.
One of my all time favorite movies. Thanks for putting in the time to bring us the memorable locations in this movie. Another Grimmlife masterpiece!!
Like yourself the little alleyway, where Chris Chambers and Gordy were instantly brought back memories of being a kid and watching this.
Thank you my friend and many blessings to you
Also, have to mention I always had a connection with Chris, because we shared the same last name Chambers!!!
I’m pretty sure kids are allowed to go outside. 😂 their lazy genx parents didn’t teach them to go outside
Or they don't get their hands dirty..
great video!!! i love this movie growing up and i have lived in oregon for 11 years.
❤❤❤❤ Honestly RUclips need love buttons lol.
This movie is the best we will be watching this on the TV tonight.
Thank You sooo much @Grimlife!! I used to live in Oregon & my sis has been to some of the locations..we are going back again soon!😊💗
This movie really affected me as a child. Such beautiful landscape!
Oh man, LOVE THIS!!! Gotta wait to watch it though!😩 One of my favorite movies. Really looking forward to this one!!! You guys are too much❣️
Wow, Very clear shots! What camera/gimbal are you using?
Quite possibly one of the best things I have ever watched on RUclips. Well done, this was just brilliant ❤
one of my 80s favorites
i can watch you lining up shots from SBM allday long!.. thank you n great work
Great job !!! Peter Steele and now Stand By Me!!!! ❤❤❤
I still have my vhs tape from the 90s of this gem
Cool video, the best stand by me then and now ive seen!
Huge thanks for this, took me back to being a kid watching SBM over and over again. Magic memories. Much respect from London.
One of my favorite movies of all time. It has a lot of sentimental value to me.
Great video as always! One of my favorite movies of all time.
My Favorite Movie!
Stand By Me, Goonies, and Lost Boys!
And youve done videos on all three. Lucky!
Thank you.
Hello from Gatlinburg TN Smoky Mountains Park... You're so lucky to live there!! 🏞️🌄🐻
@@TheGatlinburgHussey Well, I hear that where you are from is beautiful too! I've never had the pleasure of seeing for myself.
How can you say that if you haven't been elsewhere??
@@scoobydoo8498 I've heard Utah is beautiful but I've never been....carry on
@@MsBluheart we attract 17 mil visiting a year ..Very popular.. Maybe one day you'll be able to visit 🏞️🌄🐻
I'm 46. As an 80s kid and having watched Stand by Me soooooo many times ... watching this video makes me so nostalgic!! 😃
You guys do some amazing videos. Stand by me has a special place in my heart as being one of my favorite 1980s movies.
Out of all your filming locations videos, this is my favorite. One of the best movies ever and this was such a thorough tour. I enjoyed every bit of it. Thank you!
I was 17 when that movie came out, still full of wonder. Man, I miss how movies made me feel back then.
I appreciate you doing this this makes me feel like a kid again. Thank you.
You two did a magnificent job re creating and showing the shots of this beautiful scenery in modern day. Big W. Thx for the episode!
That was so cool. Thanks for bringing us back to all those great locations! Amazing to see the change of 35 - 40 years worth of growth and decay...
It's crazy with the treehouse.....you can see it right away with the branches....too bad they didn't keep it up,sob
How time has changed with these kids.....R.I.P River Phoenix. For me, it's like another lifetime ago.
It's always nice when you have such perfect weather to film a video.
Blowing the dandelion Jessica, I remember when I was a kid I made the mistake of having it too close to my mouth. I deeply inhaled by my mouth in the hopes I could really, really blow hard out.....I ended up inhaling it all in my mouthI did eat it, lol
This is a great movie, but I always found it brought sadness to me......youth, discovery, adventure, emotion, all described in the movie as a memory of the past of what once was. People of our past now just a memory.
I loved that railway bridge....it was super cool to see. With it closed off, I might have been tempted to walk it, but I'm not good with heights??
It was great that there were still remnants left of that water tower
As a kid, that leach scene actually happened to me, and yes, the leach was in the exact same area as it was with Gordy. I was a kid swimming in an area known for leaches (or what I called, bloodsuckers), and when that leach was discovered, I friggin screamed
As always, a great video/story
Happy Halloween🎃🎃🎃🎃
