I love how women are presented in this sequence as competent, intelligent and professional without the need for the narrative to demean, belittle or tear down any of the male characters. This was 50 years ago, and still seems to far outshine things made today. For instance, Leia is presented with a sarcastic yet fair question by a male colleague during a strategic briefing. Without belittling an officer, Leia seems to instinctively understand that an incorrect answer would be to demean him and lower morale by retorting. Instead, she shows real leadership by simply continuing the briefing while answering his question, which means she's asserting her authority by not outright arguing with the pilot, not interrupting her own briefing during a situation where little time is available and also answering his question all at the same time. The male officer's question is based on logic, as in "Okay, I'm following you, but our plan presents this issue." - He's looking out for the safety of his pilot colleagues by raising a huge issue with Leia's plan because he doesn't know that she's already about to lay out a solution. You can also throw in that he probably has pre-battle nerves and that perhaps the sarcastic attitude is his way of dealing with it, or perhaps this is the way he is used to talking to colleagues of the same rank. Also note that Leia is new to this specific leadership role, and so probably has yet to prove her capability which is why he's questioning her. A pilot doesn't deal with rubbish because it's life or death, and moreover, the life/death of the Alliance if they succeed/fail, so he's rather blunt about it. They all accept her plan as presented when she shows that it is logical and sound. The pilot tested her authority by confronting her and she then asserted it. She knows they share the same goal and that the safety of their colleagues is extremely important to both of them. There is also the female officer located at the Ion Canon control station, shown to be coordinating with the others at shield control, which is a very senior position. She's presented as a very focused person. She understands that lives are at risk and so she is completely focused on her task so that everyone can evacuate the base safely. She almost never takes her eyes off of her planetary display panel because she knows that people are depending on her timing for the best results. Leia also stands at the ready, in the leadership position while observing the status of the evacuation but also not micro-managing her officers, trusting them enough to seemingly only need to step in to provide more focus and guidance. She also demands that they get to safety as soon as their jobs are done, risking her own life in the process and only leaving when Han Solo physically pulls her away from the control room to her own safety. They have a leader, but work collectively as a team while trusting each other's intelligence. The presence of women in roles demanding competence and leadership is shown to be incidental. They don't have to prove anything about why they are there as they are simply the best people for those roles. As a result, the viewer also trusts them and the philosophy is proven to be a correct one once they succeed. You can extrapolate all of this complexity from only a few short scenes. This was 50 years ago guys. We did it right at that point and we can do it again if we actually try.

2:34 2:41 3:28 3:34 Commander Luke Skywalker(Rogue Leader) and Dak Ralter(Rogue Leader Gunner)
Not shown: Dash Rendar, who apparently was also present due to having just delivered a smuggling shipment, and, while waiting to be paid, decided to hop in a speeder and help the Rebels fight off the AT-ATs (unless that's also been jettisoned with the rest of the EU media).
@@draconusfrigidus I think(Could be wrong) that Dash Rendar still exists in Canon but apparently him fighting in Hoth not(At least not yet)
#DominikKun 😂😂❤
@@draconusfrigidus Dash Rendar flew as Rogue Twelve in the Legends/EU continuity during the Battle of Hoth, but he apparently didn’t have a gunner. Which is confusing since how else would he be able to bring down the AT-ATs? And if he could do it from the pilot’s seat, why even have a gunner at all?
Fun fact, after this battle, the Rebellion pretty much abandons all its permenant bases and becomes entirely mobile
Errrr. It's not real
@bollard49 your mom was pretty real last night.
Yep! This is depicted well in Star Wars X-Wing Alliance
"TWO fighTeRs agaINST a STar DesTroYEr?" - Thanks Gary, some real constructive input you've added there..
The BEST Star Wars movie.
I still remember that robot chicken version, AT-AT drag race,
Darth Vader: "-Report in the attack"
General: "Uhmm... *covers Vader's hologram with coffee cup*
one of the best films ever full stop.
In 44 years we came from this - the best piece of cinematography ever made to lesbocommunist space witches.
Star Wars is over. We are fortunate enough to have been part of it while it was good.
I agree wholeheartedly.
I'm with you all the way on this one.
Star Wars has always been left leading crap
What I love about Star Wars and Empire is that both movies don't show the Empire as a bunch of incompetent noobs. Return of the Jedi started that trend to a small extent and it just bloomed from there.
I will NEVER forget the feeling as I sat in a packed theatre and watched the first images of Imperial Walkers appearing and pounding menacingly on the distant horizon. Thank you, George Lucas, for creating this galaxy far, far away, and a moment of absolute awe in my evolving teenage mind.
I'm so glad Rebels put some more respect on my boy Hobby's name, guy was in some of the most pivotal OT battles like the attack on the First Death Star and the Battles of Hoth and Endor
Han Solo being captured & frozen was a shock. DV is lukes dad?! The ending was crushing. Could not wait for the next film.
The editing here, all of it, is perfect. Just a seemless movie experience.
I saw this in a cinema with 8 track dts. My ears will never be the same again. It was incredible.
Watch this scene and the Death Star Trench Run then immediately watch any scene from the Acolyte. Its like night and day.
"Right now, I feel like I could take on the whole Empire myself!"
That one line was all I needed to hear as a kid to like Dak. Damn shame he didn't survive.
Oh General Leia Organa we miss you so much
wow for a 70s movie it age very well
😂 80's
@@johncheetham4607 Well it was filmed in the late 70s and released in 1980.
They captured the Battle of Hoth genuinely. The only small gripe I have is that I was supposed to be Luke's tail gunner but Dak Ralter wrote my name in to be one of the pilot's on the first transport. Dak could be a real prankster when no one was looking. RIP, Dak.
Lol
Wedge became Red Leader in Return of the Jedi
Has there ever been a canonical explanation for the changes in designation between "Red" and "Rogue" and between "Squadron" and "Group"?
@@OptimusWombat my friend that's a really good question
@@jaredmckenna4512 it's something that I've wondered about for quite some time. In the old Star Wars EU they considered Rogue Squadron to be the same as Rogue Group and the successor to Red Squadron. Especially in the Stackpole X-Wing novels.
The AT AT leg at 3:03 is why REAL models beat the CGI CRAP of the newer ones. LOOK and everything MOVE for a reason.... the Knee/Hip Joints Spinning, the Legs Shaft Rods moving up and down... these vehicle werent just some "Drawing on a Screen" they had to LOOK like the ARE and WERE real working machines. NOT some cheesy "Tear Drop" Design Naboo Fighter that was JUST basically Engines and a Lazy Boy recliner seat lol
Masterful film making. 44 years later, and we are given The Acolyte.... The original 3 plus Rogue one, Alien & Alien's are the only reason I still have D+ subscription, I'd rather watch the made for TV Ewok adventures than some of the recent tripe.
Heck nah they’ve made some pretty good stuff like solo, the mandalorian, bad batch, rebels and ahsoka. People just have the most absurd nonsensical criticism about them
The mini darth vader holgram always cracks me up
The "Rebels" on Hoth look like the Germans facing the USSR on the eastern front.
I remember this as a kid at the theaters. wwth my older brother and sister.
If they'd sent the pilots out in X-Wings to begin with, they would've clobbered the AT-ATs. Like at Scarif? They should've learned a lot in that battle.
Best Star Wars ground battle on film.
Still one of the BEST movies ever made.
I just realized that the safety straps of the T-47 Snow Speeder have bubble wrap on them. Nice little detail.
Indeed they do! when I originally uploaded this back in 2021, MANY people were pointing that out...back when these videos were getting 100,000+ views....but Star Wars has been so damaged since that many have checked out... =(
damn you Kathleen Kennedy...
This still looks so amazing and always will🤩
Still remember how i cry and wanted those walkers as a kid
was so jealous of a couple of mates. one had the big Millenium falcon, another had a walker
"All troop carriers will assemble at the North entrance, the heavy transport ships will leave as soon as they're loaded, only two fighter escorts per ship, the energy shield can only be opened for a short time, so you'll have to stay very close to your transport, two fighters against a Star Destroyer?, the Ion cannon will fire several shots to make sure that any enemy ships will be out of your flight path, when you've gotten past the energy shield, proceed directly to the rendezvous point, understood?, yeah, good luck, okay everybody to your stations let's go, right"
Mechazilla be like : 1:01
At 3:11 after the laser hits you can actually see scorch marks.
1:03 "Like you know how to fish"
1:52 - 2:05 has to be my favourite moment in all of Star Wars.
Really shows the underdog 'David' Rebels facing off against the 'Goliath' might of the Empire, not dicking around this time after the destruction of the Death Star!
@@PrometheusOfVideos Yea, you know in that moment the Empire mean business.
Indeed, indeed my friend....This movie shocked me as a little kid where it was the first time I saw the good guys lose! I was 7 or 8.....and I always saw good guys winning. To see them lose this badly the whole movie was a shock!
pay attention millenial kiddies, this is what great visual effects and an exciting action sequence looks like. On a cinema screen this was truly awesome. You kiddies will never have seen good stuff like this before, just cgi nonsense
Ok boomer
who does blud think he is 💀💀💀
Rebel Force Major Derlin, the rebel pilots, and rebel operators are my favorite.
When starwars was frigging awesome!
Better than any thing disney by a mile.
Back when Star Wars inspired people. "Before the dark times, before the Disneypire." as it was commented in another video.
This felt real when I first saw it in theaters
Por favor, no podrán a hacer este tipo de films????? por favor...🙏🙏🙏🙏
I always say, "Good, our first catch of the day" when i'm doordashing and get that first delivery
Why would they "keep tight". Makes it easier for the AT-ATs to shoot them down i think.
This looks ridiculously good for 1980
20 nights in the ice is a long time when there's Hostiles On The Hill...
I LOVE that video!
I was in the winter Battle of the Hoth it was such a a cool experience
I'm surprised that Leia didn't give them a "May the Force be with you" at the end of her briefing on the flight deck.
Her generation was the first generation where the concept of the force wasn't being taught and was being actively suppressed. Jedha which was still a fairly recent event by this point had been an outlier regarding people thinking of the force which a major reason why it was a target.
@@TheWorldsprayer that's a fair point, although I would have expected Leia to be taught the concept of The Force by her adoptive parents, as they were very much supporters of the Jedi Order and what it represented. And General Dodonna 100% said it at the end of his briefing on Yavin 4 before the attack on DS1, and Leia was present at that briefing.
*shrug* who knows the reason why? We're reading an awful lot into a scene that may/maynot have been well planned out.
@@TheWorldsprayer the movie was so well made overall, it's surprising, that's all.

*All these years and no one has noticed that RICARDO MONTALBAN was in The Empire Strikes Back...*
The ion cannon looks great also like smeigel the general said no waste previousuos ammunition and marry them alien robots and roll out like Optimus prime said
I dont know who people say SW fans don't want strong woman characters when you have Carrie Fisher as Leia. That intro scene on this clip always gives me goosebumps
Holy shit does that look good. Princess Leia is so tough in it. You don’t need that woke bullshit discussion.
i know what you mean. even in ep4 she was taking over and giving direction when the main two were dithering. That's what a leader looks like
I love this movie ❤😊
Ah the battle of hoth, memories
??? 원작에도 저런 '플랩' 같은 디테일이 있었던가 ??? 오~~~
Merry Christmas and thanks for the upload. Epic is not the word.,🎉👍
Many thanks and hope your holidays were / are swell 😊
I miss rebels long fighting sequences in land and space, I really would love to see a modern movie with more rebel ground battles in other planets like Hoth, Scarif or Endor but longer and greater space battles like Endor space or Scarif
Pretty sure this is an updated version of the movie cause I remember Dak just getting zapped by the speeder itself.
If this is a recent version it definitely fits better that he got blasted instead of just dying outta nowhere.
God, I hope it isn't giant robot camels.
Sir, it's giant robot camels!
Standby Ion Control Fire 🔥🔥
When Star Wars was still Star Wars
Amazing effects for 1980 (even if retouched)
Can't beat practical effects! Plus, this is from my 4K Despecialized copy of Empire! Everything has been adjusted to make it as close to the 1980 theatrical release!
John Ratzenberger behind Carrie Fisher telling everyone to get to their stations. Cliff Clavin for Cheers.
Maybe it’s just audio degradation over time, but the audio in this version sounds so much better in the newer DVD, Blu-ray, or Disney versions. They’re less clean but more gritty and real sounding.
And this is 44 years old folks
Enjoy!
0:31 just noticed they reused Red Leader's helmet from the previous film here
"Their primary targets will be the Power Generators. Good thing we built them outside, in the open"
How did SW go from this to The Acrolyte?
One of my, like, three complaints with this movie is that the speeders fly directly at the strongest side of the ATATs. That strategy is antithetical to the rebels. I get it, it makes for good action.
I've never understood why the snowspeeders' initial attack wasn't from the side or rear.
Extraordinario! 👏👏👏👏👏
Brilliant.
Here's a question I never thought to even ask, where is Hoth being filmed? Are they in the Arctic?
Norway, so somewhat Arctic.
Man Star Wars used to be so good
