  • In this video I compared various aspects of four popular grain mills. Honestly, I did this for my own benefit, as I grind my own flour at once or twice a week for various homemade items. The nutritional value is something I highly seek for my family.
    I also put together a chart comparing and contrasting the Wondermill, Nutrimill, and Blentec in more detail.
    It can be found here:

    I ❤️ my kitchenaid grain mill. It grinds very fine flour if one mills at the 10 speed level, which is recommended. & makes great yeast breads.

    Thank you so much for this video! Just heard about milling flour at home and this video is perfect to see what we need to start out. I was looking at all of these mills.

    KitchenAid works great if you connect and use it correctly. Huge cost savings and space saving too.

      The problem I have heard numerous times about the KitchenAid MIXER is that it is not well able to deal with fresh-milled whole grain flours except in very small amounts because it will overheat.

    I own the nutrimill. I like freezing the flour. Just more convenient to have flour on the ready. Just purchased a hand cranked one for back up. Never know.. good solid video! Thank you.

      That's perfect! I do the same if I have room in my freezer 😋, but I ALWAYS at minimum store in the fridge (never at room temp). I usually mill my flour once a week, use it throughout the week until gone, and then start again.

    It looks like that mill is not compatible with the KA for some reason, Mine fits in perfectly - that shouldn't be happening! Mine slides into the slot and that little nub of metal is supposed to be extra insurance against loosening and spinning!

    Thank you for the video and the chart. I did not aware of the Blendtec before. Interestingly, it has the lowest wattage but makes the finest flour.

      Same here. I was not aware of its existence when I was researching grain mills -- and I watched a LOT of RUclips videos. Not one of them mentioned the Ktec/Blendtec mill. If I had known about it I may have chosen it over the Wondermill -- first, because I have been so happy with my Ktec/Blendtec blender which I have had for about 24 years (and which I have been using to grind my flours for the past two years); second because of the finest flour (as I can get the coarser flour easily with the blender, haha); third because it takes up less space and seems to be the simplest of all. I thought it would be cheaper than the Wondermill but I just checked and it is only barely less expensive. HOWEVER, I really do NOT like it that Cami had to replace the rubber strip/band that keeps the flour from coming out four times. That could become a problem. I used to have to replace the blender container on the Blendtec every year or two -- until a chef told me that I was "abusing" the machine by not placing my hand on the blender when it was blending to help stabilize the container. Tired of having to get the container replaced -- which after warranty cost about $100 every time -- I began to get in the habit of "holding it down" (gently, really) very time. I have not had to replace my container now for a good 14 years! Except for the Wildside jar. That one did not last. But I digress. Yes, if I had not already bought the Wondermill I probably WOULD have gone with the Blendtec Cami has and loves -- because I could always purchase those rubber things, maybe half a dozen of them, upfront. And I'm VERY impressed (though not surprised) that it makes the finest flour! The only reason I do not have buyer's remorse is because I really love the company I purchased the Wondermill from -- which is BreadBeckers dotcom. It may be the company of the highest integrity I have ever come across, and what they teach about the inherent and vastly superior value of freshly milled flour, both freely and in classes, has been a life-changer for me. People are getting well from all manner of problems just from eating fresh-ground home-milled breads, muffins, rolls, etc. as their main staple, from psoriasis to warts to so much more (including constipation as well as its opposite!).

    Well Done. Nice to have sooo many well-equipped friends!
    I have the Blendtec, for years, but I rarely use it. This morning I ran it and forgot to snap the latches down!
    How do you clean the flour off of your motor base?

      Oh shoot! Unlached = flour shower... My kids and hubby have forgotten a few times. It happens!
      I use a small pastry brush to clean the underside of the motor and strategically brush the flour into thr basin. I keep the brush with the mill so it's always easily and quickly accessible.

      I cannot get my Blendtec Mill to grind my Kamut-wheat fine enough to allow the resulting bread to rise! I may have to double-grind may Kamut -- once in the Blendtec and then in my hand-crank Wonder Mill Junior to get the powdery cosistency required for bread. Help Anyone???

    • @camiford8950
      @camiford8950  3 года назад

      Do you have the dial set to the finest setting?
      I've used all kinds of wheat and never had a problem, so other than that, I'm not sure. You can call their customer service... They are super helpful normally.

    • @tkarlmann
      @tkarlmann 3 года назад

      @@camiford8950 Definitely set to finest setting.
      Question: when you take some flour you ground in your mill, and rub it between your fingers does it feel completely powdery; of are there some pieces of 'grit' in yours?
      With my Kamut-flour, it is decidedly the latter. Thanks!

    You have the Kitchen Aid set up incorrectly, but your mixer looks like the attachment port is damaged on your mixer.

    • @camiford8950
      @camiford8950  3 года назад

      It would not go into the KA port, so that may be true that it was damaged.

    I can’t stand my KA mill tbh, the flour is coarse even on the finest setting and there’s no where to place a container to catch the flour without Gerry-rigging a stand. Thx for the video

    What is the separator cup for?

    • @camiford8950
      @camiford8950  9 дней назад

      The separator cup is the air filtering mechanism, separating the flour from the air and is necessary for clean milling. It must be in place or your mill will blow flour. (Flour in separator cup can be used.)

    What is the separator cup separating ?

    • @camiford8950
      @camiford8950  9 дней назад

      The separator cup collects the finest flour particles (pastry flour). It must be in place or your mill will blow flour. (Flour in separator cup can be used.)

    • @camiford8950
      @camiford8950  2 года назад

      I simply use a soft pastry brush and brush off the motor, the filter area, and the flour canister. Do not get the motor wet-never immerse in water (can wipe down with a very damp cloth, but do not get any moisture in the motor).

      They range in price depending on the current market, but plan on spending $250+ for a good mill (though I have seen a used blendtec for sale every so often at a great price). Check out the manufacturers web pages to see current prices.

      I actually just learned today that the blendtec mill is now only being sold through Kitchenetics (formerly k-tec) again, but due to an ownership change, their website (kitchenetics) isn't fully functional as of today (8/24/21). But it is sold on other sites (Amazon, Walmart) for now.
