Grain Mill Reviews! This is the fourth in a series of videos to help you choose your new grain mill. Brian compares five of the most popular manual grain mills on the market today: The Wondermill Jr Deluxe, The Family Grain Mill, The Country Living Grain Mill, and the Victorio line. See the strengths and weaknesses of each, including a visual demo of how fine they can grind, how fast they grind, and even the effort required for cleanup. See our website for more reviews and videos.

The first one looked like a lot less effort, and still makes a bread flour. Price difference you can also buy 3 for the price of ours. Also with a $50 motor that you can connect to it. I rather use it manually though for the exercise, and that old school feel. The others, today prices are ridiculous. $400 for a manual mil, is crazy.
That said, this was a great video bro. Thank you.

Really well done video! I stumbled upon it while searching for a corn grinding mill and just kept watching! The only thing I felt was lacking was the "this particular mill can also grind ______" part. I know you tested them on how fine they can grind flour in one pass, but it would be helpful to know which mills can grind what and which ones CAN'T grind certain stuff.

Interesting video. The title included the KoMo, but it wasn’t included. I have a KoMo Classic, which I like pretty well. I have no experience with anything else. I imagine this is true for all home mills, but the grinding stones heat up a lot, (a salesman at a bread conference thought I am silly), but I stop my grinder after about 4 cups of grain, take apart the grinder until the stones cool down. I don’t want cooked flour before it’s mixed into dough. The flour quality is very good, imo. I wouldn’t mind having one of these for a backup.

I'm sending the Wonder Junior Deluxe hand grain mill to our mission in Liberia, West Africa. We have no electricity. Light Evangelism Ministries has a school and an orphanage at the mission and we have a lot of mouths to feed. The brass bearings will not rust in the rainy climate. And a child being able to turn the handle is another plus. If this hand mill can tackle the oily grains and nuts and is easily kept clean then this is a big advantage. Soup thickeners are the thing more than baking.

Great reviews! Only price you mentioned was the cheapest one.
Would have been helpful to at least given a price range for each model. Just a thought. Good job regardless.

I purchased the Junior & can honestly say it took more effort to crank that handle than I had strength for - it had to be returned as it did not live up to what was advertised.

Don't know if its just me but it seems that side camera had a much lower quality video ability which is a shame because it was used to show the flower of that first mill. Maybe others too haven't finished the video.

I have one of the Lehman’s grain mills. It looks very similar to the wondermill. I have been less than impressed with it, it takes monumental effort to produce a few cups of course flour.

Nice presentation. I bought a Wonder Mill Jr. deluxe several years ago based on reviews - it's not cheap but I wanted a decent one. It's still in it's box bc I bought it as a prep item. Yes, I have grains stored up too lol. I didn't even know that it's good for the oily stuff - I don't have them stored bc they just don't keep like red wheat berries, etc.

The masa auger for the Wonder Jr doesn’t work, it was a poor design, it’s too short, I struggled for 20 minutes trying to grind one cup of corn.

Thanks for this video. We bought a cheap cast iron mill and the finest it will grind is about the consistency of bread crumbs. We're sending it back and getting the Victorio. The others are out of our budget.

Is it possible to grind wheat and get the finer flour as we get in the market (all purpose flour) or a little bit thicker than that with any of these grinding mills?

    • @sonjawright518
      @sonjawright518 5 лет назад +1

Vimal Sheta you would have to sift the flour through progressively finer material to get all the bran out.

I guess if we all lose our electricity forever and don't have any family to help crank the mill, we can always buy an ox and let it turn a grinding stone for us.....or just forget about ever eating bread again. I can grow wheat, but I don't know how to thresh it and now don't know if I can ever grind it without power. He's a good salesman though, he's in the right line of work.

Thank you for showing all the mills. I need mill to dehull soybean without turn them into flour. Just split them, so when I soak and wash the skin will peel easily. I need soybean for tempeh. Which one has the coarsest setting ?

Question: I have a NutriMill, it grinds nice flour, but the flour comes out hot, which is not good for the heat sensitive nutrients, which is why i am considering a hand grind unit. The question is, on the units that have option motor grinding, does that option change the way the flout comes out, does the flour come out cool or hot?

Im trying to figure out how exactly a plastic body is better than the aluminum body on the victorio. You could see that plastic flexing all over the place when cranking the handle. No way is that a step up. If I could afford it, I may get the country living or junior. I have no use for stone wheels since I mainly just grind corn, so stainless wheels are perfect for my needs
