      I'm sorry to say that I don't share your distain for this series but the video you made was pretty good. I like Zoid Fuzors, despite its numerous flaws. While it's not my favorite series and it's definitely the second worst entry in the franchise I still had a lot of fun watching it as a kid. Liger zero Phoenix is one of my favorite Zoids of all time though it had much better CGI in Zoids battle Legends.

    The CGI in chaotic century and even more so in New Century were so good, I don’t usually like CGI in anime but the zoids team pulled it off so well in those first two seasons, I don’t know how they took such a huge step backwards in Fuzors they already had the models there and it went up in flames such a shame, wouldn’t mind a continuation of New century just because it’s my favourite!

    • @Viseak
      @Viseak  4 года назад +5

      Thomas Clipperton it’s definitely kind of crazy isn’t it, the first two seasons were fantastic and then they just went backwards somehow. A continuation of New Century would be great as I feel like it really deserved a second season. I have recently found some evidence of an underwater Liger Zero CAS that was a prototype model kit while New Century was airing. So maybe there was going to be a season 2 at some point and it got scrapped or that CAS just got scrapped entirely, who knows.

    • @RedFoxReviewer

      From what I understand there was a change in the Animation Studios behind the scenes hence why the CGI is the way it is in Fuzors.

      Nah, early zoids always play around in sci-fi & millitary themes, but in fuzors & genesis (i know genesis is not as bad as fuzors but still for me the gap joy between the two early predecesors still a lot) the themes slide differently to more of fantasy & military theme because of the fusion & the design of the zoids itself, and the fantasy genre was the theme of the sh*t generic japaneese toys anime (bakugan, b-daman, beyblade, etc.), And thats why zoids can stands among them if they played around military - sci-fi theme, and it proved again in wild series, they forget the military and even the sci-fi theme based and change to fantasy & adventure, gods even they used more clichest sh*t like one eyed blue flame design urgghhh (i dont mind about the no cockpit design, because that's the lore of the all zoids itself). But wild zero is an improvement, i heard in japan they say is a lot a better than wild series, and i see somes episode (i only watch somes because i watch raw episode without dub or sub and i cant understand japanese) and i agree, it is better than fuzors, genesis, or wild, because they back again to original theme sci-fi & military theme. The point is dont use the generic fantasy, fusion, one eyed flame design character because there is already a lot of that sh*t show

    Where they screwed up is when they decided to use a different 3D animation company to save money. Zoids CC & NC had the same animation studio. With Fuzors they decided to get cheap and use a different animation company. so both the animation and story suffered.

The dub got rushed so that Hasbro could release more toys. The English dub did complete it's run outside the USA. I will say this about Fuzors. It's probably the only show that could take a premise as amazing as mechs fusing to make even stronger mechs, and make it as boring as waiting for an elevator. What's more is that they took the Berserker Fury, perhaps the most savage zoid in the previous series, and reduced it to a minor annoyance until it got it's fuzor zoid. And Liger Zero, who should be a freaking LEGEND at this point, is regarded as useless until it got it's fuzor, and at the end when it turns out the Liger Zero is the legendary Alpha zoid.
    This is the exact same story as New Century without any of the humor and charismatic characters that made New Century fun and interesting. R.D. is a poor man's Bit Cloud without any of the edge. And Blake....? Blake is a far less intimidating Raven. How does a pilot of the BERSERKER FURY!!! End up being such an embarrassment and a push over? The Berserker Fury was an utter jobber in this series, in fact a lot of zoids that were very strong in New Century were reduced to cannon fodder. Shadow Fox? Big deal in New Century. Fuzors? Buried in an instant. And let's not forget that the battles that were once centered skill, technique and actual tactics, are now about power levels.....It's stupid in Dragon Ball Z, and even more stupid in this soulless anime.

    • @Viseak
      @Viseak  5 лет назад +2

    • @Ninja07Keaton
      @Ninja07Keaton 3 года назад

      @Jonny Croxville Which is why when you read anything I post, you'd do well to see the details. I never said anything about Raven being a pilot of the Berserk Fury. I said that in terms of character, Blake is essentially a weaker version of Raven. What was Raven's primary objective as a character? To destroy Van for personal reasons. What was Blake's primary goal throughout Fuzors? To take out R.D. for a similar vendetta. The difference was that Raven was actually terrifying, while Blake(whose a pilot of the Berserk Fury need I remind you), is a push over. Blake should have been the most frighting rival we've seen in the franchise up to that point, but....I'm not getting into that again.
      I'd like to know what show you were watching, because Bit showed strong tactical ability throughout. Yes, the Liger was steadily evolving throughout the series, but it's also due to how in sync Bit and the Liger were becoming.

  • @cardsfanbj

    I watched it as a kid and I remember it just kinda disappearing one day. Never thought about it again until I wanted to rewatch Chaotic and New Century again and Fuzors came up when I was searching for them.
    I did end up finding them, and I guess I'm glad I watched Fuzors from start to finish once, but doubt I ever will again.
    It was "fine." It filled the void of wanting to watch more Zoids battles, but aside from the weak points in this video, the battles themselves weren't as good as the ones from the previous 2 series. They're confined to a stadium, rather than an open field in New Century, or the epic scale warfare in Chaotic Century.
    And the Fuzors for the most part didn't look any cooler than any single zoids (and in the spinosaurus/crab zoids, looked a lot stupider than either of its components on their own).
    Liger Zero Phoenix was better looking than the falcon fusion, especially the stupid galloping through the air animation after they fused. And the Liger Zero with its different armors from New Century was a lot cooler than eother Fuzors form.
    That's about all I remember, it's been like 4-6 months since I watched it.

    and then there's blake. he, is so fucking cool.
    why the fuck wasnt he the main protagonist? shit wouldve been better if they worked on him a bit more, and his relationship with Luke. (no not the yaoi side, but more on the friendship side/ brotherhood side)

  • @assemblyrequired7342
    @assemblyrequired7342 3 года назад +1

    I think that one of the main problems was that the characters were just so forgettable. Strong, memorable female lead? None. Memorable moments? Yeah, same. I can't even really remember anything about the final battle, even though I watches the series. At times, it looked like they aired some of the episodes without completing the 3D CGI. And the dialogue was at time cringeworthy. Honestly, it felt like they made the series just to sell the models, with very little planning or refinement. And both suffered as a result.
    Not helping was that at times, the Blox add ons could feel like a clunky afterthought, failing to combine with their host Zoids in a way that made you want to keep them that way. And as for the Hasbro designed Blox...let's just say that Kotobukiya is going to have a lot of room for interpretation if they ever get to them. And Jet Falcon just isn't working aesthetically. It's like they left out everything that really makes a Falcon cool in the first place, and just made this clunky thing just to give Liger Zero a pair of Buster Claws.
    Genesis was far better in chemistry and character development, and is really one of my favorites of all the series thus far. Too bad that by then, the damage was done, and there was no international release whatsoever.

    • @Viseak
      @Viseak  3 года назад

      I couldn’t agree more with you there. The anime was really sub par to say the least, the blox mechanic just felt botched, poorly planned out, and the Fuzor designs for the most part left a lot to be desired especially with the Zero Phoenix and Falcon. Probably the only good design to come from Fuzors was the Gairyuki at least in my opinion.
      It’s a shame not many people seem to know about Genesis thought because it really is something special, it’s probably because it never reached an international audience but it’s easily the most underrated Zoids series and would stand up as my favourite if I put my nostalgia for New Century and Chaotic Century aside

    People often accuse this anime of being Zoids’ franchise killer. However, it was really Zoids Chaotic Century that killed the franchise. Having gotten such low ratings on Toonami that it was abandoned and the last four episodes were shown after complaints from the fanbase. This anime was more of a last ditch effort to salvage the Zoids franchise.

    Aside from the animation, the fights also took a step down. The once feared charged particle cannons, which were one hit kill weapons in the previous two shows outside of special counters, were now just run of the mill guns that could be shrugged off. Our main character RD doesn't really grow much as a pilot, he gets through his major fights by brute forcing his way through them.
    The plot with Alpha Ritcher could have been interesting but it kinda just shows up without much foreshadowing and Alpha is just able to waltz in and do as he pleases. The show's writing just isn't good enough to handle that type of conspiracy plot.
    Also the dub got the name of one of the Zoids wrong. The blue Tyrannosaurus is called the Gairyuki, it is not pronounced "Guy Ricky." We saw it had these cool energy absorbing panels, and it only brought them out once.
    Though when it comes to damage to the franchise, sorry to say but it was Genesis that was believed to have killed it until Zoids Wild came around. Fans didn't like the kits having so many pre assembled parts so the models sold poorly.

      I’m not too surprised about Genesis though, the kits just weren’t fun, the anime was absolutely amazing in my opinion but the only good Genesis kits that have come out are the new Supernova Murasame and Hayate Ligers, and from my knowledge they aren’t even official kits.

      @@Viseak I especially find the Gairyuki's ray absorbing panels not getting much use a shame since in the Battle Story, that was a feature designed to kill the Seismosaurus. Instead the Seismosaurus is taken down through RD's Liger Zero Falcon going Super Saiyan.
      Also I got curious and found the first episode of Zoids Wild on youtube. Due to the waning popularity of the mecha genre in anime, the series was turned in a mons anime. I have heard people consider it an improvement over Fuzors, which granted isn't saying much since among other things the Zoids in the series are gorgeous. I will grant the previous animes (I haven't watched Genesis yet) did go back and forth between the idea of Zoids being fully sentient but it still feels like a completely different IP with the Zoids name slapped on it.
      Still I don't want to condemn something for just for a genre shift, it's not like Netflix's plan to turn it's live action Avatar adaptation into Game of Thrones. I will condemn something for being bad.

      Another issue I find with the end of Fuzors is that Alpha Richter, despite being the main villain, was barely in it. I would need to check again but I believe he has even less screen time than Vega did in New Century.
      A couple other things that were a letdown. I feel that Blake, the Gairyuki's pilot, should have been the one to destroy the Energy Liger, since it destroyed his previous Zoid. He does knock the Seismosaurus back to an unfused state, but given that the Liger Zero Falcon survived the Seismosaurus' big gun when it was it was a Fuzor, so it surviving the same cannon when the Seismosaurus was in it's base state after going Super Saiyan was a lot less impressive.

    So my first exposure to ZOIDS was at a friends house back when New Century Zero was still on Toonami. He turned me onto the show and i've loved it since. Here I am "X" years later- I'm now 27, and I find myself watching clips now and then.
    I remember a long time ago when I watched Zoids Genesis, I thought it was the best season of the 4. Back then, I had no in depth understanding of what qualities can ruin a show or make a show great. That said, looking back on it all now, I firmly believe Chaotic Century is the best season of them all. The art style is older, but its consistent and still looks good.
    I honestly cannot remember if I watched all of Fuzors or not.... Goes to show just how memorable it was huh? It had some cool moments, but as you said, its just mostly bad. I'll never forget, there is a scene where that dino zoid that can do that weird teleportation movement or something.... There is a scene were its running along, but its animation is literally this choppy up and down motion. Like, it bounces upward from its skipping style strides, but instead of falling back down with gravity normally, its almost propelled back to the ground. It literally looks like a kid playing pretend with their buzz lightyear action figure.
    Anyways, I'm actually about to do a re-watch of Chaotic Century/Guardian Force. I'm realizing there are a handful of episodes I haven't seen yet from it. As a kid watching it on TV, I didn't realize that I was missing certain episodes in between.
    The saddest thing for me is that while Fuzors failed to sell toys, I still want some of the models from that season, yet they are EXPENSIVE.

    Except...she doesn't battle that well. The Konig Wolf is practically cannon fodder. I don't remember it actually doing well in any battle, and the Command Wolf actually battled better in most cases from what I do remember. Great stories with actual meaning sells toys not the other way around. If you make a show to just sell toys then it is going to fail. What I liked about Chaotic Century other than the superb story and characters, was the mystery of the ancient zoidiants. Something about the concept of ancient and advanced is awe aspiring. What I also liked about Zoids was that it was rooted in hard science. In comparison to other mech shows Zoids was grounded in both a literal and figurative sense. The science and math checks out. Zoids may be gaint biomechanical lifeforms, and we see how they die and evolve, and live, but they also function under the laws of physics. Even the gravity cannon, one of the greatest weapons ever conceived functions under the laws of physics and the science and math behind the concept checks out. Unlike another mech show that Zoids was shaping to be a rival of, Gundam. Who constantly breaks the laws of physics at times with newtype powers.

    I think this phenomenon didn't just happen to ZOIDS series back in 2004-2008 period, but more. Lots of toy IP corporations just can't let go of the idea of selling under-15 toys and kept reusing those childish concept of fusion/add on/power up kit/paint job/and list of these shit goes on and on...at one point all fans grew tired and bored, nobody was interested in the same old toy promo tricks anymore.
    I think that's the real failure :
    Fanbase grow up and gain knowledge and maturity, you can't just keep targeting the kids market and don't give a shit about fans from the previous series.

      I agree to an extent, I think you need to bring new life into a franchise to keep it alive, and catering towards what your target audience always was (in this case, children/potentially teens?) isn’t a bad thing, but at that same time, you shouldn’t isolate your dedicated audience that’s growing up.
      I think Yugioh nailed this pretty well, so many people including myself grew up with Yugioh, and the anime started to grow up with us (ie 5Ds). Afterwords the anime went back to something a bit more child friendly, with some teen/adult undertones (and progressively got more mature again in late Arc-V / Vrains) but at that point, if grew up and still liked Yugioh, there was something for them in the TCG, which only gets better as you become an adult with how complex it gets and going to locals/regionals/YCS etc
      Then Yugioh also has more ‘kid friendly’ or ‘casual friendly’ versions of its game, in Rush Duels and Duel Links, which people can eventually play and progress into the full game if they want
      Essentially the anime and game has the opportunity to grow with its audience and continuously bring new fans in which is exactly what you want as an IP holder

    I stopped watching I think 2 or 3 episodes in. I remember I was so excited for it after having rewatched the previous 2... I had 0 interest in this after I saw how bad it was.

    So basically not worth watching. Got it. I’ve only ever watched Zoids Chaotic Century and Guardian Force and a smidge of New Century before it stopped airing. I’m about to watch NC fully soon though. Was wondering if any of the other series (Fuzors and Genesis) are worth looking into so checked this video out. Saw a bit of the Wild one on Netflix and noped out of that quick.

      I’ve got a whole video covering Genesis if you’re interested 👀
      It does contain spoilers though but the short answer is yes I’d recommend it.
      Fuzors I really don’t think I could recommend. If you’re a diehard Zoids fan with a BIT of nostalgia for it like I had, then sure it was nice to see how the story actually finished as I only watched random episodes here and there I had on DVD as a kid, but as a newcomer, Fuzors just isn’t worth your time.

      @@Viseak I’ll definitely check your other videos out! Spoilers aren’t an issue for me.
      I also just started watching NC and while it’s not bad bad…. I’m so far not a big fan of it tbh. At least where the characters are concerned. Might just be spoiled by how great CC/GF is xD

      @@Catenfur oh yeah I get you, the NC show and cast are more or less just fun, you won’t really find any deep character arcs there.
      I’ve just got a heavy nostalgia towards CC/GF and NC so I love practically everything about them 😅

    I actually went out of my way back in the day to find the entire Zoids Fuzors series online and watch it from start to finish. It was painful, but I did it.
    I couldn't finish the first episode of Zoids Wild. Whether that is because Wild is even worse than Fuzors or if I am simply less tolerant of cheap efforts to monetize my childhood memories and hobbies, I genuinely can't say. But Wild is considered a Shonen anime and feels like it.

    • @Viseak
      @Viseak  3 года назад

      Yeah honestly Fuzors truly did rub me the wrong way, and I can’t seem to get into Wild either.
      Wild Zero on the other hand has been a lot better and I’m hoping it’ll get an English dub to broaden the fan base of it. It’s a lot more like Chaotic Century and feels like an actual anime rather than a gimmick show to sell toys.

  • @PlanetZoidstar
    @PlanetZoidstar 4 года назад

    The animation was poor, the story was sub-par, and the fusing gimmick overtook the show. The fusing mechanic felt very gimmicky and made the zoids feel more like toys showing off their gimmicks.

    • @Viseak
      @Viseak  4 года назад

      Greatsaiyakirby yeah Fuzors was really the show that felt most like a toy commercial, I mean technically every season was marketed to sell toys, but they never really felt like it especially Chaotic Century considering it had a manga to take inspiration from as well.

    • @PlanetZoidstar
      @PlanetZoidstar 4 года назад

      @@Viseak Exactly, like you say, Zoids is and always has been a toy commerical, but the show is doing something right if it can help you to forget that it's a toy commercial. Every time the Fuzors Zoids do the lengthy fusion sequence it FEELS like something straight out of a toy commercial. The episode grinds to a halt and you watch the Zoids fuse over multiple seconds.
      Chaotic Century never paused the action to show off a Zoid's abilities, their weapons felt like practical and logical weapons for those Zoids to have, the Geno Saurer wasn't build around its CPC, it was a feature but it wasn't the SOLE gimmick of the Zoid, and it was 3-5 seconds tops whenever it used it (same with the Beserk Fury and Geno Breaker). The Blade Liger didn't take 20+ seconds busting out the Blades and it COULD fight without them, and used them in creative ways, like countering the Geno Saurer's CPC.
      You COULD argue the Liger Zero's multiple Armour Modes were somewhat gimmicky and toy-like, but each had its own utility and the equipment sequent was fairly brief. It makes sense to have a flexible Zoid that can adapt to the situation. And ultimately it's the Base Liger Zero that beats the Beserk Fury, showing its main feature was not what defined it as a fighting machine.
      I wouldn't be surprised if Fuzors had a smaller budget than Chaotic Century or New Century, that would explain the inferior CGI and extensive transformation sequences. Gotta fill that runtime somehow when your budget is cut from previous seasons.
