Great review, its unfortunate genesis was not given more attention here in the west. I loved the zoid design and the story though simple was still quite enjoyable.

Yesss! I waited so long for this video, and quite frankly there's so much I wanna comment on, but I feel like it would take me forever, so I'll try my best to keep it short and to the point: Absolutely loved this series and wholeheartly agree with you on everything; the opening song is a masterpiece, probably the best one in the entire Zoids franchise, characters were written logically and on point, except for Seiijuuro, he's just your average edgy swordsman; the redemption of Zairin was tastefully done, and that scene where it's revealed that the bioarmy was made of trasmutated souls was so heavy, my 14 yo couldn't believe this was coming from Zoids, a show aimed at kids for buying toys; Ruuji's development was so satisfying because it felt organic, very avatar-esque as you pointed out (funny cause I never realized how similar the shows were until you mentioned it), the characters weren't just there to fill in, but each had its role in the story and were there to make Ruuji's development happen, and oh man, the Gilvader's first anime appareance was so epic. Overall, I'm so glad that someone else appreciates this series and everything it offered, and I'm glad as well that I'm not the only who thinks Genesis is massively underrated, because quite frankly, it's objectively on par with Chaotic Century when it comes to maturity, epicness and the themes it deals with, and if it had been released on the west, it would have fixed the thrashy mess that fuzors left on the western market. I understand the reasons why it didn't happen though. And you're right, the Murasame Liger's Design is so flawless, it would probably be everyone's favorite liger design above Liger Zero had this anime gotten out of Japan, at least it's mine though. Anyway, Bravo, another banger of a video, probably my favorite one on the channel so far, now I'm really looking forward to the next videos, be it Zoids, Gundam or anything else. Cheers mate! Haha glad it was worth the wait man! I can’t believe how much they massacred my boy Seijuurou, he had so much promise to end up simply becoming edgy sword man 😔 Zairin was done so well and I love how slow his change is, it’s not until the final like 5 episodes that he realises his fallacy and acts upon it. You’re right too the whole souls thing was a lot to take in for a show made to sell toys but I loved it, I almost wish they took it a step further and showed us how it was actually done so we’d hate Jiin even more. I loved the supporting cast in Genesis so much and that’s probably the one thing I think it does better than Avatar (cause overall I believe Avatar does end up making for a better series) Genesis really is the closest thing we’ve ever gotten to a return to Chaotic Century levels of quality and it’s SUCH a shame it was never brought to the west so it could shine. The kits were so badass especially the bio Zoids I can’t think of a kid that WOULDNT think the Bio Volcano is cool, they probably wouldn’t even have to know its a Zoid to like it, at the end of the day it’s an awesome looking Dinosaur, and if they tapped into that maybe they could’ve broken a bit further out from the niche. If it did come to the west we’d probably be having a completely different conversation right now, about how overrated the Murasame Liger is cause it really would’ve stole the show, no doubt about it Thanks as always for the support man and I’m glad I started this year off with a banger, hopefully I’ll have many more to come!

Not sure if you'd believe a random comment but I live in Southeast Asia and I can confirm Genesis got a dub of the whole series here. I watched it when I was a child. Gotta say it's a bit surreal to hear how some of these names were subbed compared to the dub (Digald and Garaga instead of Digardo and Galaga, lol). I haven't watched the subbed version, but this definitely motivates me to revisit it, as a lot of the broad plot summary lines up with what I remember, especially Zairin's arc and the final battle against Jin. It felt so different from a lot of the shows I watched as a kid and I liked all the characters, so it stands out even now. I really wish it got a chance in other regions. It was my gateway to Zoids, and the reason I went back and watched Chaotic Century. Thanks for the video, it was nice to see some love for Genesis
I’ve got no reason not to believe ya! I’d definitely recommend giving it a rewatch for a nice bit of nostalgia, I doubt you’ll find it online in English though so you’d have to watch the sub 😅 Localisation can definitely get a bit weird, but it is a shame it never aired elsewhere especially if the dub was complete, I truly believe Fuzors was the nail in the coffin and the reason most broadcasts would’ve dropped Genesis from their lineup. After Fuzors, taking on another Zoids series would’ve been pretty risky even if it’s a completely different vibe, so I can’t exactly blame any network for not wanting to air it.
I agree with you, Zoids Genesis is indeed underrated. There isn't a whole lot I can say that you haven't already said, but I'll try... Genesis is the first show in the franchise that actually felt like an anime, rather than a toy commercial disguised as a cartoon. Genesis marked the potential of the franchise in a lot of ways. Sure we all remember cartoon network and seeing Bit Cloud during the week, but Genesis felt like a more serious take on the franchise. I've said it many times before, but it frustrates me that Gundam got to take the adult oriented direction, while Zoids had to take the kid oriented direction. And so that is one of the reasons I really like Genesis- we saw some darker moments for a change. The backstory to Seijuro and how he accidentally killed his student was a nice darker touch. The death of Felm- uh..... Bio Ptera pilot was savage. I cannot decide if her death was warranted or not, but it was intense. This in turn leads to one of my complaints about the show; It tried to be dark and deep a lot, but most of the times it pussied out by the end of the episode. There were many scenes where someone died, but then oh wow, nevermind they are actually fine. The episode with those transporter people who would rob Digald transports really pissed me off. It was a total filler episode that set us up for an emotional heart break, only to slap us in the face with them being perfectly fine AND they had no clue what happened either. As you said, Genesis suffered from the same problem that Guardian Force did; a sudden ending with no real conclusion. As a friend pointed out, they could have cut a few filler episodes and actually resolved a proper conclusion. Just like Guardian Force, Genesis also suffers from excessive creative liberty on Zoid sizes. Gil Dragon was amazing, but its not actually meant to be that size. Though in a contained universe, its cool. The problem I in turn had with it being THAT massive was how easily it was damaged in the end. The flying Bio Zoids shouldn't have even been able to scratch it. I've always been torn on how much "slack" I should give Ryuuji. Yes he is a naive kid, but there were many times where it frustrated me just how much common sense he lacked. One continuity error I found in the show was in regards to the Brastle Tiger's full burst attack. The Zoid isn't supposed to be able to move after using it, yet we see it move right away. The show had lots of potential, but I Think the ultimate thing that held it back was the target audience.... And as for a little side thought, I wonder how it would play out if you took an older version of Vega who has full mastery of the Berserk Fury, and paired him off against Jiin and the Tyranno. For the sake of this, we can assume the Fury's blades are made of metal zi. Are you going to be doing a review of Zoids Wild and/ore Wild Zero?
I watched it twice all the way through, and am currently watching it again. Every time I notice new things. Though I never really connected it to Avatar, this is one thing I see alot of similarities to that are almost deliberate. If you've never seen or played it, I'd suggest checking out the old PS1 title Legend of Legaia. Not only does the theme of the overall world seem alike, but some of musical tones are quite close especially when you compare Rim Elm theme in Legaia to the Village theme in Genesis. The heroes of that game even obtain special sentient beings/equipment in the form of Ra-Seru which are the only things that can truly defeat the evil corrupted Seru. The game has special trees in most major towns/cities called Genesis trees that purify the air of the evil mist and can bring prosperity to the area.
Yanno, I've been curious about Genesis ever since I picked up the Supernova Mugen, and after watching this review, I think I'm finally gonna make time to check it out. It always makes my day whenever I see another Zoids video from you pop up on my feed; really glad to see how much the channel has grown and how well you seem to be doing! Your content, in particular the level of quality and consummate professionalism that you garnish every video with, is a huge inspiration to me now that I've *finally* bitten the bullet and actually started posting my own stuff; I feel like it gives me a standard to aspire to. I couldn’t recommend it enough, as a Zoids series and even just an anime in and of itself it’s pretty solid. It not some insane marvel of storytelling like 0080 War in the Pocket or Berserk but you’ll definitely enjoy your time watching. I appreciate the kind words and support too man! Congrats on getting started with your own stuff as well! I had a quick geez at your most recent video and if I were to give you one bit of advice, it’d be to make that intro song a bit quieter / shorter, or if you’re feeling froggy cut it entirely and just jump right into the game to try and get peoples attention. And yeah, I agree with you, I think out of everything I've had to learn about video-making, audio mixing has been the toughest part (especially since my hearing is kiiiinda fucked after being in a rock band for several years when I was younger lol). I figure that as long as I'm gonna be working on kits to relax anyway I might as well get some content out of the process, y'know? Anyways, I really like the top-down style you used in the ones of yours I've watched - it seems to be the most elegant way to focus on the kit itself rather than, say, my ugly mug. What kind of stand/camera mount would you recommend for a setup like that?
It was aired on Cartoon Network on 2005 or 6 here in the Philippines then aired on local tv channel in 2007. Rarely watched it cuz i was at college it was the era of The Big Three. But most of the episodes that I've seen, it was a huge upgrade from fuzors and the plot and world building is really really good. I mostly remember the Sky city and was intrigued by the concepts of the story arc until I fall off on it. But that Murazame Liger design was so cool and Kotona... Dang~

Like New Century was great for its own reasons but Genesis has such a fantastic story I’d even recommend people who aren’t fans of mecha/Zoids to watch it in the same way I’d recommend Code Geass

I completely agree with you, the series is not perfect but I enjoyed it a lot, definitely underrated. I stayed to watch the whole video because I'm from Costa Rica, and even tho many people know about Zoids they don't know about Zoids Genesis so I never got a chance to dialogue or discuss the series with someone else. I believe this is the fastest I have watched one of your uploads XD so worth it. Zoids Genesis is hard to get your hands on to re-watch and it's so very worth it when you do. Just wish the quality could be updated but hey, can't be too picky when you get to see it. Never actually considered how closely it can be related to Avatar yet in my defense I just watched all of Avatar last year so I came in late. I need to go watch it now because I forgot a lot of the stuff towards the end, need my Mugen and Volcano fix. Maybe I am the only one who had no problem with Seijero? (Probably butchered it but I can't go back now) We got some backstory of him being a teacher and why he stopped before Ruji came to him then he carried on as a teacher, and guide with the occasional passing around of "idiot" but maintained the background, I'm not sure what more I would want out of his character considering the rest of the surrounding cast. Either way thanks for the review! Worth all 30 minutes. I must ask, will you cover either of the new Zoids? Like for example maybe comparing how horrible Zoids Wild is compared to the horror that is Fuzors? O.o Am I the only one who can't hardly stand it? Although Zoids Wild Zero has been decent, especially the graphics upgrades for some of the Zoids and plenty of new ones, not bad on characters, just has been rough getting access to the episodes o_o. Genesis is definitely quite hard to find especially considering it was probably the least popular, but you can get access to the blu-ray via the Zoids discord which looks pretty good. Funnily enough I only thought about the comparison to Avatar about a year or so ago when I finally watched it in full, I was getting through it and I knew it reminded me of something but I just couldn’t put my finger on it until the point where Zuko joined up with the gang and then it hit me like a brick haha I didn’t dislike Seijuurou per say, I was just indifferent about him I guess? He served his purpose and then pretty much just retired to the background which was a bit of a shame. I’m considering making videos on wild and wild zero in the future, but the problem is of course, I’ll have to watch them first. I didn’t really like what I saw of wild, but wild zero seems decent enough, just very hard to watch for some reason, guess you’ll just have to wait and see haha

Good catch. 🤔 I see, okay that makes more sense, wanted a little more presence from his character. Oh, auh. Yes. The time to do so and the stomach to survive it. I really can't stand Zoids Wild, I have tried to literally force myself to watch an episode here and there (mind boggling how it has 50 episodes the heck) but I can only handle so much, the concept isn't bad of wild Zoids but the execution isn't there. It wasn't this hard to watch Fuzors when it came out but I hadn't been crushed yet so maybe that was why, I held out hope until the bitter end and now I know better. Zoids Wild Zero however has been way better imo. Zoids graphics are solid, characters aren't bad/ridiculous, you can tell that they definitely drew from Zoids Chaotic Century when making it, from just moments to even some of the characters, it also more than definitely has its cheesy moments but hey it's Zoids, only Genesis kept to a constant more serious side. I'd honestly just say try watching them like I did and try Zoids Wild first until you just can't take it anymore (episode 3 might do it) and jump to Zoids Wild Zero and it'll feel like a palatable jump up you can endure 🤣 I'm horrible but I can't stress my dislike for Zoids Wild enough, I'm tempted to actually watch Fuzors and see which one I can take longer. Am I alone? Is there anyone else scrolling through here that agrees? But yes, we'll all wait for your uploads on the two and see what kind of journey it takes us.

unforchently while i watched genesis years ago i almost never think about it for remember much about it while i still think fondly on CC and NC still do this day.
I remember I attempted watching this season a few years back but only made it through the first episode. I have finally finished today all I have to say even though I didn't enjoy the characters as much at least they were better than every character from Fuzors. Cause holy it's no wonder Fuzors was the one season I remember nothing about besides the Liger Zero Phoenix. One thing I enjoy in this show was the world-building and the mystery that was going on throughout the show.
I am late to this video but I will gonna say it anyways... Zoids Genesis was actually was aired here in Philippines locally in regular channels and Filipino exclusive cable channel (saddly that cable channel is down now) both in Tagalog dub back in the days... if remember correctly it was aired back in late 2000's or early 2010's (sorry forgot already because it was really that long since I watched the Tagalog dub) and because of that I buy the original DVD complete series of Zoids Genesis English Sub so I can rewatched it whenever I wanted it...!!!
I've always thought that it was a shame that Hasbro gave up on the series, without an airing of Genesis outside of Japan. It had a great combination of characters, Zoid designs, and a great story that was easy to get into. Due to Shopro's zealous copyright enforcement, I'm not even sure it's possible to watch any more, like a few years ago. They have even taken the links down off of Discord. It has some of my favorite designs, which unfortunately only had a brief release, and while at least the three Ligers have been released as ZAs and Supernova HMMs, the series obscure release makes it look depressingly unlikely that Kotobukiya will make redesigns for the rest of the series any time soon (if we're lucky). I loved how most of the Resistance Zoids were customized versions of previously released Zoids, designed to improve on their designs, while Lancestag and Rainbow Jerk appear to be well-detailed and well-designed examples (for the time period), typical of the late NJR. Meanwhile, Murasame Liger has a Zi Metal sword, hinting that Zi Metal weapons were developed towards the end of the "Age of Technology" time period, and possibly Bio Armor as well. Story wise, the rise of the Digald Suppression Army reminds me of how the Rebellion was built up over time in Star Wars to fight the Empire between a number of different cells. I think that it is a shame that it couldn't have lasted another season. I would have liked to see that Bio Diplodocus and that Liger with the back-mounted rifles become more than just concept art, while it would have been cool to see a few more obscure Zoids receive Zi-Weapon modifications (preferably courtesy of Sky People science).
I've seen Zoids (New Century), Zoids Chaotic Century, Zoids Fuzors, and Zoids Wild. For some reason I can't find Zoids Genesis outside of a couple of episodes in Japanese on RUclips.

Oh hey they did have Zoids animes on netflix? Well not here in Germany. Anyway i got all Zoids animes except for Zoids wild. Aside from Genesis i have all on DVD with english subs. The Genesis ones i found with english subs back then. Was a fantranslation and yes i think it was one of the best Zoids animes. I also had a huge collection of Zoids, but i sold most of em due lacking space to store and /or display them.

I vaguely recall there was at one point when Genesis was supposed to have been dubbed and was listed on Toonami's lineup (?), but it never did come in the end. I saw a lot of potential in Genesis, but I just found it super boring in the end :( way too dialogue heavy and drawn out. I think I watched the latter half of the series in 2x speed... The music was great though. I'm not a fan of the bio Zoids designs personally and really I only liked the Liger trio and Lance Stag. The Rainbow Jerk was kind of a neat idea too, but not quite my style either. Anyway, great video it's always nice to have some Zoids talk to listen to!
It was suppose to be dubbed and there is an English announcement/commercial thing floating around on RUclips It does get pretty dialogue heavy I must admit but I still enjoyed it none the less, I think they could’ve shorted the series by 5-10 episodes max and still gotten the point across, which could’ve cut down on a lot of dialogue but may have hindered some harder hitting moments especially in Zairins character The bio Zoids are just a matter of taste I guess it’s cool not to like them, I found em pretty cool though, looked a lot like dinosaur skeletons which just always seemed awesome to me Thanks for the support mate!

@@birchfeather6324 i think that was the point of the Bio-Zoids. For all their name of "Bio" in it, it didn't at any way feel natural or "real" unlike the other normal Zoids, which serves the theme of their unnatural production of the pilots that was eventually revealed through the eyes of Zairin.
Yeah back then, I only knew about Genesis thanks to the OP that was done by the same band who does Inuyasha songs, the fact that the main character was in a Super Robot Wars game(TOTALLY still not mad that neither New Century Zero or Chaotic Century are not in new games but a damn VN anime is in the newest one) and finally the ending but only from word of mouth. Seeing this, it definitely sounds interesting like a weird mix of Avatar and Gundam and I would have like to watch it back then but now while the whole let's have our main character build an army to fight an evil group does sound cool, other shows have done that idea but better. Same with the whole war effort as even Gundam does it way better and the same with CC. Not to mention, the fact that not a lot of things are expanded upon is another issue, especially since it makes the narrative feel a bit empty. Plus, the ending overall feels just as that's it? As I heard it was, including the let's use the Liger as a damn power source plan. Don't get me wrong, the show does things that none of the older shows did like having characters die by the hundreds and even have it's own Zuko, but I would just rather watch a gundam series or Chaotic Century if I wanted a more interesting look at a gray area and war. Hell, Black Eages route is a more strong gray area but still it was nice to learn a bit about the series we never got and I appreciate that so nice job with the video!
Im only halfway through this video, but I think if instead of Fuzors, Genesis made it outside Japan, and Zoids as a whole started going in that direction of more mature themes, it couldve been huge overseas.
The protagonist’s Zoids could be beaten by older Zoids like the Shield Liger, their weapons alone aren’t going to save them from the Shield Liger’s own weapons. Bio Zoids on the other hand would be nearly indestructible to the older Zoids being that a shot in the mouth is the only thing the Shield Liger can bring a Bio Zoid down with.
I can confirm that I saw Zoids Genesis airing here in the Philippines.. What I can't remember is if it is Tagalog or English Dub... My brain says Tagalog but, my brain is also stupid at times so I don't trust it fully.
Was the Viz dub finished? I know it never aired but I'm curious if it is completed just in case a company like DiscoTek might be interested in saving it and releasing it. Also, Avatar is just about close enough to a Naruto ripoff.
Technically it does... or at least it did. An actual English dub aired in its entirety within the Philippines and maybe some Asian continents but no one is known to have recorded and archived it so, sadly, it's probably considered to be lost media. In some ways I guess that's okay because the English dub was said to have some censorship put in there, but it's still a God awful shame that nobody will be able to experience it anymore. Still, the subbed version is perfectly fine and well worth your time.
@@Viseak not just that but i believe the toys itself was too expensive for the general public and only the most dedicated fans where the only ones who's able to buy the toys. But i do agree fuzors is one of the reason that brought the franchise into its downfall. Zoids was already loosing its momentum during the early 2 thousands and fuzors was the final blow that marks the end of the golden age. To be honest with zoids wild i thought the franchise was about to make an epic comeback but from the looks of it, zoids wild failed to go mainstream and sadly the franchise seems to be going back to hibernation just when zoids is about to reach its 50th anniversary.

I just don't like Genesis. I really wanted to love this series but., after fuzors and the first season of wild, i consider this season the worst lol. I just got too much into the European based Ancient Story Zoids brought to us . And genesis is a more japanese oriented series and i didn't like it. And the pace was just so much Worse compared to CC and GF.
So far in terms of subs...I found one set that I was able to watch online somewhere and I am just trying to watch it slowly bit by bit. I will admit that Kotona is both cute and hot.

I waited so long for this video, and quite frankly there's so much I wanna comment on, but I feel like it would take me forever, so I'll try my best to keep it short and to the point: Absolutely loved this series and wholeheartly agree with you on everything; the opening song is a masterpiece, probably the best one in the entire Zoids franchise, characters were written logically and on point, except for Seiijuuro, he's just your average edgy swordsman; the redemption of Zairin was tastefully done, and that scene where it's revealed that the bioarmy was made of trasmutated souls was so heavy, my 14 yo couldn't believe this was coming from Zoids, a show aimed at kids for buying toys; Ruuji's development was so satisfying because it felt organic, very avatar-esque as you pointed out (funny cause I never realized how similar the shows were until you mentioned it), the characters weren't just there to fill in, but each had its role in the story and were there to make Ruuji's development happen, and oh man, the Gilvader's first anime appareance was so epic. Overall, I'm so glad that someone else appreciates this series and everything it offered, and I'm glad as well that I'm not the only who thinks Genesis is massively underrated, because quite frankly, it's objectively on par with Chaotic Century when it comes to maturity, epicness and the themes it deals with, and if it had been released on the west, it would have fixed the thrashy mess that fuzors left on the western market. I understand the reasons why it didn't happen though. And you're right, the Murasame Liger's Design is so flawless, it would probably be everyone's favorite liger design above Liger Zero had this anime gotten out of Japan, at least it's mine though. Anyway, Bravo, another banger of a video, probably my favorite one on the channel so far, now I'm really looking forward to the next videos, be it Zoids, Gundam or anything else. Cheers mate! Zairin was done so well and I love how slow his change is, it’s not until the final like 5 episodes that he realises his fallacy and acts upon it. You’re right too the whole souls thing was a lot to take in for a show made to sell toys but I loved it, I almost wish they took it a step further and showed us how it was actually done so we’d hate Jiin even more.
I loved the supporting cast in Genesis so much and that’s probably the one thing I think it does better than Avatar (cause overall I believe Avatar does end up making for a better series)
Genesis really is the closest thing we’ve ever gotten to a return to Chaotic Century levels of quality and it’s SUCH a shame it was never brought to the west so it could shine. The kits were so badass especially the bio Zoids I can’t think of a kid that WOULDNT think the Bio Volcano is cool, they probably wouldn’t even have to know its a Zoid to like it, at the end of the day it’s an awesome looking Dinosaur, and if they tapped into that maybe they could’ve broken a bit further out from the niche.
If it did come to the west we’d probably be having a completely different conversation right now, about how overrated the Murasame Liger is cause it really would’ve stole the show, no doubt about it

Not sure if you'd believe a random comment but I live in Southeast Asia and I can confirm Genesis got a dub of the whole series here. I watched it when I was a child. Gotta say it's a bit surreal to hear how some of these names were subbed compared to the dub (Digald and Garaga instead of Digardo and Galaga, lol). I haven't watched the subbed version, but this definitely motivates me to revisit it, as a lot of the broad plot summary lines up with what I remember, especially Zairin's arc and the final battle against Jin. It felt so different from a lot of the shows I watched as a kid and I liked all the characters, so it stands out even now. I really wish it got a chance in other regions. It was my gateway to Zoids, and the reason I went back and watched Chaotic Century. Thanks for the video, it was nice to see some love for Genesis
I’ve got no reason not to believe ya! I’d definitely recommend giving it a rewatch for a nice bit of nostalgia, I doubt you’ll find it online in English though so you’d have to watch the sub 😅
Localisation can definitely get a bit weird, but it is a shame it never aired elsewhere especially if the dub was complete, I truly believe Fuzors was the nail in the coffin and the reason most broadcasts would’ve dropped Genesis from their lineup.
After Fuzors, taking on another Zoids series would’ve been pretty risky even if it’s a completely different vibe, so I can’t exactly blame any network for not wanting to air it.
I agree with you, Zoids Genesis is indeed underrated. There isn't a whole lot I can say that you haven't already said, but I'll try...
Genesis is the first show in the franchise that actually felt like an anime, rather than a toy commercial disguised as a cartoon. Genesis marked the potential of the franchise in a lot of ways. Sure we all remember cartoon network and seeing Bit Cloud during the week, but Genesis felt like a more serious take on the franchise. I've said it many times before, but it frustrates me that Gundam got to take the adult oriented direction, while Zoids had to take the kid oriented direction. And so that is one of the reasons I really like Genesis- we saw some darker moments for a change. The backstory to Seijuro and how he accidentally killed his student was a nice darker touch. The death of Felm- uh..... Bio Ptera pilot was savage. I cannot decide if her death was warranted or not, but it was intense.
This in turn leads to one of my complaints about the show; It tried to be dark and deep a lot, but most of the times it pussied out by the end of the episode. There were many scenes where someone died, but then oh wow, nevermind they are actually fine. The episode with those transporter people who would rob Digald transports really pissed me off. It was a total filler episode that set us up for an emotional heart break, only to slap us in the face with them being perfectly fine AND they had no clue what happened either.
As you said, Genesis suffered from the same problem that Guardian Force did; a sudden ending with no real conclusion. As a friend pointed out, they could have cut a few filler episodes and actually resolved a proper conclusion.
Just like Guardian Force, Genesis also suffers from excessive creative liberty on Zoid sizes. Gil Dragon was amazing, but its not actually meant to be that size. Though in a contained universe, its cool. The problem I in turn had with it being THAT massive was how easily it was damaged in the end. The flying Bio Zoids shouldn't have even been able to scratch it.
I've always been torn on how much "slack" I should give Ryuuji. Yes he is a naive kid, but there were many times where it frustrated me just how much common sense he lacked.
One continuity error I found in the show was in regards to the Brastle Tiger's full burst attack. The Zoid isn't supposed to be able to move after using it, yet we see it move right away.
The show had lots of potential, but I Think the ultimate thing that held it back was the target audience....
And as for a little side thought, I wonder how it would play out if you took an older version of Vega who has full mastery of the Berserk Fury, and paired him off against Jiin and the Tyranno. For the sake of this, we can assume the Fury's blades are made of metal zi.
Are you going to be doing a review of Zoids Wild and/ore Wild Zero?
I watched it twice all the way through, and am currently watching it again. Every time I notice new things. Though I never really connected it to Avatar, this is one thing I see alot of similarities to that are almost deliberate.
If you've never seen or played it, I'd suggest checking out the old PS1 title Legend of Legaia. Not only does the theme of the overall world seem alike, but some of musical tones are quite close especially when you compare Rim Elm theme in Legaia to the Village theme in Genesis.
The heroes of that game even obtain special sentient beings/equipment in the form of Ra-Seru which are the only things that can truly defeat the evil corrupted Seru. The game has special trees in most major towns/cities called Genesis trees that purify the air of the evil mist and can bring prosperity to the area.
Yanno, I've been curious about Genesis ever since I picked up the Supernova Mugen, and after watching this review, I think I'm finally gonna make time to check it out. It always makes my day whenever I see another Zoids video from you pop up on my feed; really glad to see how much the channel has grown and how well you seem to be doing! Your content, in particular the level of quality and consummate professionalism that you garnish every video with, is a huge inspiration to me now that I've *finally* bitten the bullet and actually started posting my own stuff; I feel like it gives me a standard to aspire to. It not some insane marvel of storytelling like 0080 War in the Pocket or Berserk but you’ll definitely enjoy your time watching.

I had a quick geez at your most recent video and if I were to give you one bit of advice, it’d be to make that intro song a bit quieter / shorter, or if you’re feeling froggy cut it entirely and just jump right into the game to try and get peoples attention. Audios hard though, even now I’m still not sure if I’ve got it right, at times I think my background music is either too loud or quiet I never truly know what’s right haha

It was aired on Cartoon Network on 2005 or 6 here in the Philippines then aired on local tv channel in 2007. Rarely watched it cuz i was at college it was the era of The Big Three. But most of the episodes that I've seen, it was a huge upgrade from fuzors and the plot and world building is really really good. I mostly remember the Sky city and was intrigued by the concepts of the story arc until I fall off on it. But that Murazame Liger design was so cool and Kotona... Dang~

You should definitely give Genesis a second chance man it’s the closest thing Zoids has come to recapturing Chaotic Century in my eyes. Like New Century was great for its own reasons but Genesis has such a fantastic story I’d even recommend people who aren’t fans of mecha/Zoids to watch it in the same way I’d recommend Code Geass

I completely agree with you, the series is not perfect but I enjoyed it a lot, definitely underrated. I stayed to watch the whole video because I'm from Costa Rica, and even tho many people know about Zoids they don't know about Zoids Genesis so I never got a chance to dialogue or discuss the series with someone else. I believe this is the fastest I have watched one of your uploads XD so worth it. Zoids Genesis is hard to get your hands on to re-watch and it's so very worth it when you do. Just wish the quality could be updated but hey, can't be too picky when you get to see it. Never actually considered how closely it can be related to Avatar yet in my defense I just watched all of Avatar last year so I came in late. I need to go watch it now because I forgot a lot of the stuff towards the end, need my Mugen and Volcano fix. Maybe I am the only one who had no problem with Seijero? (Probably butchered it but I can't go back now) We got some backstory of him being a teacher and why he stopped before Ruji came to him then he carried on as a teacher, and guide with the occasional passing around of "idiot" but maintained the background, I'm not sure what more I would want out of his character considering the rest of the surrounding cast. Either way thanks for the review! Worth all 30 minutes.
I must ask, will you cover either of the new Zoids? Like for example maybe comparing how horrible Zoids Wild is compared to the horror that is Fuzors? O.o Am I the only one who can't hardly stand it? Although Zoids Wild Zero has been decent, especially the graphics upgrades for some of the Zoids and plenty of new ones, not bad on characters, just has been rough getting access to the episodes o_o. Genesis is definitely quite hard to find especially considering it was probably the least popular, but you can get access to the blu-ray via the Zoids discord which looks pretty good.
Funnily enough I only thought about the comparison to Avatar about a year or so ago when I finally watched it in full, I was getting through it and I knew it reminded me of something but I just couldn’t put my finger on it until the point where Zuko joined up with the gang and then it hit me like a brick haha
I didn’t dislike Seijuurou per say, I was just indifferent about him I guess? He served his purpose and then pretty much just retired to the background which was a bit of a shame.
I’m considering making videos on wild and wild zero in the future, but the problem is of course, I’ll have to watch them first. I didn’t really like what I saw of wild, but wild zero seems decent enough, just very hard to watch for some reason, guess you’ll just have to wait and see haha

Oh, auh. Yes. The time to do so and the stomach to survive it. I really can't stand Zoids Wild, I have tried to literally force myself to watch an episode here and there (mind boggling how it has 50 episodes the heck) but I can only handle so much, the concept isn't bad of wild Zoids but the execution isn't there. It wasn't this hard to watch Fuzors when it came out but I hadn't been crushed yet so maybe that was why, I held out hope until the bitter end and now I know better. Zoids Wild Zero however has been way better imo. Zoids graphics are solid, characters aren't bad/ridiculous, you can tell that they definitely drew from Zoids Chaotic Century when making it, from just moments to even some of the characters, it also more than definitely has its cheesy moments but hey it's Zoids, only Genesis kept to a constant more serious side. I'd honestly just say try watching them like I did and try Zoids Wild first until you just can't take it anymore (episode 3 might do it) and jump to Zoids Wild Zero and it'll feel like a palatable jump up you can endure 🤣 I'm horrible but I can't stress my dislike for Zoids Wild enough, I'm tempted to actually watch Fuzors and see which one I can take longer. Am I alone? Is there anyone else scrolling through here that agrees? But yes, we'll all wait for your uploads on the two and see what kind of journey it takes us.
@@Viseak have you watched zoids wild senki? It's a free (but official) miniseries that is only remotely related to zoids wild zero. Probably the zoids show that has the most serious tone and focuses on the military action of the warring factions. It's awesome :)

unforchently while i watched genesis years ago i almost never think about it for remember much about it while i still think fondly on CC and NC still do this day.
I remember I attempted watching this season a few years back but only made it through the first episode. I have finally finished today all I have to say even though I didn't enjoy the characters as much at least they were better than every character from Fuzors. Cause holy it's no wonder Fuzors was the one season I remember nothing about besides the Liger Zero Phoenix. One thing I enjoy in this show was the world-building and the mystery that was going on throughout the show.
I am late to this video but I will gonna say it anyways... Zoids Genesis was actually was aired here in Philippines locally in regular channels and Filipino exclusive cable channel (saddly that cable channel is down now) both in Tagalog dub back in the days... if remember correctly it was aired back in late 2000's or early 2010's (sorry forgot already because it was really that long since I watched the Tagalog dub) and because of that I buy the original DVD complete series of Zoids Genesis English Sub so I can rewatched it whenever I wanted it...!!!

I've always thought that it was a shame that Hasbro gave up on the series, without an airing of Genesis outside of Japan. It had a great combination of characters, Zoid designs, and a great story that was easy to get into. Due to Shopro's zealous copyright enforcement, I'm not even sure it's possible to watch any more, like a few years ago. They have even taken the links down off of Discord.
It has some of my favorite designs, which unfortunately only had a brief release, and while at least the three Ligers have been released as ZAs and Supernova HMMs, the series obscure release makes it look depressingly unlikely that Kotobukiya will make redesigns for the rest of the series any time soon (if we're lucky).
I loved how most of the Resistance Zoids were customized versions of previously released Zoids, designed to improve on their designs, while Lancestag and Rainbow Jerk appear to be well-detailed and well-designed examples (for the time period), typical of the late NJR. Meanwhile, Murasame Liger has a Zi Metal sword, hinting that Zi Metal weapons were developed towards the end of the "Age of Technology" time period, and possibly Bio Armor as well.
Story wise, the rise of the Digald Suppression Army reminds me of how the Rebellion was built up over time in Star Wars to fight the Empire between a number of different cells.
I think that it is a shame that it couldn't have lasted another season. I would have liked to see that Bio Diplodocus and that Liger with the back-mounted rifles become more than just concept art, while it would have been cool to see a few more obscure Zoids receive Zi-Weapon modifications (preferably courtesy of Sky People science).
I've seen Zoids (New Century), Zoids Chaotic Century, Zoids Fuzors, and Zoids Wild. For some reason I can't find Zoids Genesis outside of a couple of episodes in Japanese on RUclips.

Oh hey they did have Zoids animes on netflix? Well not here in Germany. Anyway i got all Zoids animes except for Zoids wild. Aside from Genesis i have all on DVD with english subs.
The Genesis ones i found with english subs back then. Was a fantranslation and yes i think it was one of the best Zoids animes.
I also had a huge collection of Zoids, but i sold most of em due lacking space to store and /or display them.

hey thank you for this review, i need to watch it, hey you mention that there is an English dub for zoids wild zero? where? im watching it on Japanese, but is hard to understand it.
I vaguely recall there was at one point when Genesis was supposed to have been dubbed and was listed on Toonami's lineup (?), but it never did come in the end.
I saw a lot of potential in Genesis, but I just found it super boring in the end :( way too dialogue heavy and drawn out. I think I watched the latter half of the series in 2x speed... The music was great though. I'm not a fan of the bio Zoids designs personally and really I only liked the Liger trio and Lance Stag. The Rainbow Jerk was kind of a neat idea too, but not quite my style either.
Anyway, great video it's always nice to have some Zoids talk to listen to!

It does get pretty dialogue heavy I must admit but I still enjoyed it none the less, I think they could’ve shorted the series by 5-10 episodes max and still gotten the point across, which could’ve cut down on a lot of dialogue but may have hindered some harder hitting moments especially in Zairins character
The bio Zoids are just a matter of taste I guess it’s cool not to like them, I found em pretty cool though, looked a lot like dinosaur skeletons which just always seemed awesome to me

@@birchfeather6324 i think that was the point of the Bio-Zoids. For all their name of "Bio" in it, it didn't at any way feel natural or "real" unlike the other normal Zoids, which serves the theme of their unnatural production of the pilots that was eventually revealed through the eyes of Zairin.
My first anime when I didn't even know what anime's were
Yeah back then, I only knew about Genesis thanks to the OP that was done by the same band who does Inuyasha songs, the fact that the main character was in a Super Robot Wars game(TOTALLY still not mad that neither New Century Zero or Chaotic Century are not in new games but a damn VN anime is in the newest one) and finally the ending but only from word of mouth. Seeing this, it definitely sounds interesting like a weird mix of Avatar and Gundam and I would have like to watch it back then but now while the whole let's have our main character build an army to fight an evil group does sound cool, other shows have done that idea but better. Same with the whole war effort as even Gundam does it way better and the same with CC. Not to mention, the fact that not a lot of things are expanded upon is another issue, especially since it makes the narrative feel a bit empty. Plus, the ending overall feels just as that's it? As I heard it was, including the let's use the Liger as a damn power source plan. Don't get me wrong, the show does things that none of the older shows did like having characters die by the hundreds and even have it's own Zuko, but I would just rather watch a gundam series or Chaotic Century if I wanted a more interesting look at a gray area and war. Hell, Black Eages route is a more strong gray area but still it was nice to learn a bit about the series we never got and I appreciate that so nice job with the video!
Im only halfway through this video, but I think if instead of Fuzors, Genesis made it outside Japan, and Zoids as a whole started going in that direction of more mature themes, it couldve been huge overseas.
Okay I haven’t seen the series but from just watching this, do you think older Zoids like the shield liger could beat the zoids in genesis?
The protagonist’s Zoids could be beaten by older Zoids like the Shield Liger, their weapons alone aren’t going to save them from the Shield Liger’s own weapons.
Bio Zoids on the other hand would be nearly indestructible to the older Zoids being that a shot in the mouth is the only thing the Shield Liger can bring a Bio Zoid down with.

Technically it does... or at least it did. An actual English dub aired in its entirety within the Philippines and maybe some Asian continents but no one is known to have recorded and archived it so, sadly, it's probably considered to be lost media. In some ways I guess that's okay because the English dub was said to have some censorship put in there, but it's still a God awful shame that nobody will be able to experience it anymore. Still, the subbed version is perfectly fine and well worth your time.

I think Avatar is a weird connection to make because in tone.
Genesis is the most serious of the shows in tone and much more serious than Avatar.
i did watch it in South east Asia and it was dubbed, but they didnt relaese it

This anime is a little cliche but i love it!
It aired here in the Philippines but yeah it wasn't that popular by the time it aired zoids is already into a decline.

@@Viseak not just that but i believe the toys itself was too expensive for the general public and only the most dedicated fans where the only ones who's able to buy the toys. But i do agree fuzors is one of the reason that brought the franchise into its downfall. Zoids was already loosing its momentum during the early 2 thousands and fuzors was the final blow that marks the end of the golden age. To be honest with zoids wild i thought the franchise was about to make an epic comeback but from the looks of it, zoids wild failed to go mainstream and sadly the franchise seems to be going back to hibernation just when zoids is about to reach its 50th anniversary.

The whole time I watched Avatar in the back of my mind I was like ‘this reminds me of something 🤔’, low and behold it was Zoids
I just don't like Genesis. I really wanted to love this series but., after fuzors and the first season of wild, i consider this season the worst lol.
I just got too much into the European based Ancient Story Zoids brought to us . And genesis is a more japanese oriented series and i didn't like it. And the pace was just so much Worse compared to CC and GF.
So far in terms of subs...I found one set that I was able to watch online somewhere and I am just trying to watch it slowly bit by bit. I will admit that Kotona is both cute and hot.
