  • Most people experience intestinal discomfort from time to time - cramping, diarrhea, constipation, GERD. Panic sets in and this feeds the lucrative industry that force-feeds us a variety of pills to correct a “SIBO” problem with powerful but highly erroneous messaging that many are victims of. How much have you spent on a variety of wallet biopsy medications that have not had the desired effect? This commonsense video about intestinal symptoms in otherwise relatively healthy people will be seen as highly controversial because of the overwhelming hype regarding intestinal bacteria as the cause of so many disease states and symptoms. In this discussion, Dr Cywes steps back and makes common sense of such an emotive and lucrative topic. Approaching your intestinal issues objectively will improve the quality of decision-making with your doctor regarding your gut health. Be empowered. Know your risk!

Our son (11 now) was diagnosed with T1 diabetes just before his 10th birthday. I'm a pharmacist and believed what I was taught. After my son's diagnosis, I started researching carbs, American standard diet, the low fat concept...well this led me to big pharma and what a joke 80% of my education was. You're spot on. This Doc is the GOLD STANDARD of information, how to cure yourself.
I had incurable Cancer 7 years ago, some of his information put me on the correct direction. My cancer tumors, were gone in 9 days. (after I was in Ketosis and FASTING for 12-24 Hrs once or twice a week)
I was suffering with the GUT problem and PAIN everyday for the last 15 years. Many spasm and the pain was on the scale of 7 like an Ice-pick stabs 24 hrs a day.
Keto CURED my cancer but the gut issue remained.
20 days ago, I finally started Carnivore diet and now, NO PAIN, NO CONSTIPATION !
I feel better but not cured yet as he said.... it will take years. I agree.
Those bullshit leafy vegetable in Keto diet too, was not helpful at all.
On occasions I do eat some carbs to wake up the insulin process. That I discovered myself before seeing his video. So, it's not a big deal to eat some cooked but COOLED potato that changed it's chemical composition.
Not gonna be used by the body as a warm or hot potato.
    Read up on that.
I eat only ORGANIC FOOD of the BEST quality and you should do the same... don't touch anything but ORGANIC.
BTW I never eat out in restaurants, food is full of pesticide and toxic and questionable hygienic.
On the carnivore diet, I eat the same thing everyday and I love it. It's ground Pork, for fat and flavor, and ground beef mixed. Lots of olive oil and crock pot or slow cooked with chopped onion and garlic in it. I also ad my combo spices for 1Lb of Pork (ground) and 2 Lb of beef (ground) the following:
1/4-TSP of: Chili Pepper, Cayenne Pepper, Black Pepper, Cumin, Coriander, Garlic Powder, Hungarian-Paprika,
Cajun, or New Orleans pepper, or Creole Pepper... and 2 TSP of Turmeric powder.
And SALT to taste, lots of it. maybe 1Tsp or 1.5 Tsp
Add 1/2 to 1 cup of Olive Oil and/or Chicken broth. I add both and make sure it covers the meat in the pot.
You need all the fat and oil.
I store in small jars all this while it's little warm.
For a meal reheat a small jar and eat it out of the jar, no need to plate it... we're in the hurry always, right?
    Haha
Some time I add 1 tsps of ACV (apple sider vinegar) and mix it with the warm food. On occasion a 1 TB of Sour cream and or both. It has a nice flavor.
How about some home made croutons from a POTATO Bread?
A few pieces would not hurt at all and the texture is something we all miss :)
Experiment,... use spices you want, but never omit the Hot peppers especially the Cayenne and Chili peppers.
You may want to look up this pepper combo : SLAP YER MOMA... a Cajun mix and SUPER hot !
Buy it on-line or your market.
You will be shocked how GOOD this taste.

I had it all and ate lots of clean vegetables, plants, fruits, meats, supplements, made my own smoothies. It all failed me. Went all meat and 30 days into it I had so much relief. I can tell you that it took a while to get my stomach acid to normal range after getting it all alkalized and messed up with too many plants. After I got my stomach acid good it only got better. No liquids before eating or after for a while and that is what helped the most. I’m now close to 3 years into all meat diet and I’ve tried many times to re-introduce plants, fruits, nuts. Anyways my body doesn’t want them. I can say getting my breast implants fully removed along with the scar tissue was a huge help as well. I did that a little after a year into this way of eating. Also my house had a little mold we found by accident and getting that cut out and removed also made a big difference. Molds can be a big part of the problem it’s very common especially in HVAC units and vents

Oh my WORD~ you are absolutely describing what my beloved husband is dealing with~ wow! I've been researching & reading everything I can get my eyes on. We certainly haven't resorted to anything beyond occasional Pepto, but I'd be willing to bet that if I track it for a week or two, I'll see a direct correlation between the days we have a little veg, or a couple of higher fiber protein bars. We've been low carb for years, & for the last year, under 20 total & moving into mostly carnivore~ mainly because we just feel better. Even just thinking back a few days, I can see where his bouts of cramping, running to the loo every couple hours~ have been days where fiber was up, rather than just meat those days.
This amazing guy next to me in the thumbnail is finally retired~ after spending almost four decades taking care of everybody else around him~in the USCG, coordinating search & rescue, taking care of his staff of hundreds, his family. It is my mission to continue to seek optimum health & wellness, along with quality of life for this guy. Which is why I will search a matter out, & do whatever it takes to make that a reality. He's now off of all "GERD" meds, & finally ditched the evil statin the doctors put him on a few yrs back.

Really just wanted say THANK YOU~ we are grateful beyond words to have access to so much critical information, & folks like yourself who so willingly share your own expertise. Brilliant! Everything you’ve said in this video is the truth.
I’m living proof of this. Before going Keto 3 years ago and now I’m mostly carnivore. I had nightmare IBS, I had diarrhea daily, sometimes all day. Had acid reflux so bad for years I had to sleep sitting up. Was on Prilosec for a long time. It’s taken 3 years for me to I’m going to say, heal my gut 80% It’s been a long road. I discovered vegetables cause the diarrhea to return and stress can bring it on. But most days I poop once a day. I will still get heartburn if a eat a bad food. But if I’m good, stick strictly to my carnivore. My gut is a happy camper.
But one leafy green salad and I’m on the toilet.
I don’t feel I’m completely healed after 3 years. Because I spent 58 years torturing my digestive tract and body. I feel I still have a ways to go with the healing process.
But in this year alone my peripheral neuropathy has improved greatly. My elderly skin has thickened back up. My strength is amazing. I’m in this for the long haul, I will be Keto for the rest of my life.

Many years ago, my GP started me on Pantoloc for severe GERD. As a nurse working in LTC, I admit my eating habits were not the best. Putting in long hours and working under constant pressure since the start of Covid, continuously working short staffed, and eating a very unhealthy diet took its tole on my health. I had become overweight and diabetic and suffered an episode of extreme stomach pain that brought me to the ER. I was on sick leave for 3 months and the doctors never found out what had caused my pain. That's when I decided to take things into my own hands. I immediately started cutting cards and ditched the Pantoloc after reading an article on the severe side effects it can produce. My GP never warned me about this, and I had been on this PPI for many years. With the help of AVC, it took all of 3 weeks for my GERD to go away. After a few months of eating keto meals and adding more meat to my diet, I was living pain free and even reversed my diabetes.

I personally don’t want to weigh 95 pounds so I DID start eating the simple sugars again…I actually NEED the weight, given I was near hospitalization given my 50 pound weight loss on a carnivore diet. Hi Doc. I am a patient of yours. I have an appointment with you in a few months. I'm going on two years of a carnivore diet, with a little veg. I used to be vegan and I am diabetic but my blood glucose is great now. Since I saw you last, my diarrhea has been so horrible, I can't leave the house. You and I have talked about it. About two months ago I saw a functional medicine practitioner. Yes, it cost me $2k and I'm also on a lot of supplements. And yes I had a bacterial overgrowth. After taking all the supplements, my diarrhea has stopped. It was worth $2k. But also I learned, or I was told, that I have low vitamins C,B, and D and that is because my gut was so bad that I couldn't absorb the nutrients in my food. Every day I eat two meals - one beef, and one egg based. I shouldn't have a deficiency in anything. I'm glad you did this video. You're probably right, as always. BUT I want you to know that the $2,000 was well worth it!!

I retired to Italy in 2021. Set about growing and eating artichokes, broccoli, tomatoes, aubergines, potatoes, salads, onions and garlic. Not to mention harvesting cherries, peaches, apples, plums and pears. After what I believe to be covid-induced diverticulitis in 2020, I was eating ketovore. Then the move to Italy and all that gardening! I landed in hospital with my second bout of diverticulitis brought on, I believe, by all that fabulous bounty. Gosh I was so smug growing my own fruit and veg, I completely forgot about ketovore and became more or less vegetarian. My husband thrives on a vegetarian diet, and has done for 40 years but, of course, I now had a compromised colon. Bam. My poor, scoured colon. A bout of diverticulitis that landed me in hospital. But I got better. Jan 2024 sees me catching covid again and right off the bat, I have another diverticulitis flare! That’s it, no more vegetable garden for me. I’m getting chickens and going carnivore.

I watched this whole video, twice. Maybe someone can explain away these symptoms in relation to it not being SIBO then.
My system isn't very regular and BMs are sporadic. Migrating Motor complex problem? Anyway, there are times when I start having BMs and they do not stop for a couple hours until my colon is cleared out. I am trying to figure out if certain foods are the trigger, for example chocolate, sugars, Dairy, etc.
My naturopathic doctor told me a couple years ago, based on only symptoms, that I had SIBO. Yes, I had to give up going to her because it was costing too much money and was overwhelming with all of the different recommendations and supplements, etc.
I have been trying to figure out if certain foods trigger it. For example, I have spent the past few days eating way too many Hershey's miniature chocolate bars (shame on me, I know) and I am paying dearly for it this morning -- or is it something else? I don't know what I'm supposed to eat. Been trying the carnivore way of eating but I keep falling off the wagon. Sometimes, when I am going through these mornings of gut cramps and cleaning out my colon, I even end up vomiting. Mysterious, at least to me. Usually a day or so prior to these bouts, there is tremendous bubbling in the intestines. When my colon is emptying itself, there is endless belching. I suspect that is relevant as well.
I have just recently been told about Dr Cywes and I really am fascinated by his information and, even more so, his style of teaching. He makes me laugh. But he also makes me think, which is even more important. I welcome any input into this situation of mine that leads to random gut issues and leaving me a prisoner in my own home sometimes. Best of luck to all who are dealing with similar symptoms.
And thank you, Dr Cywes, for sharing your knowledge. It's invaluable. Bless you and yours.

I’ve heard some ppl report gaining weight on carnivore by eating fat in excess. We’re talking way more than 200 g of fat per day. I’m just passing on this anecdotal info in case it might be useful, or in case someone figures out a deliberate weight gaining protocol. You never know. 🤷‍♀️

@@miklimecat9636 Thanks I appreciate the info 🤗 to be honest I really like carnivore eating and will try to get back to it once I pick up more weight here. I will for sure add much more fat!!! Trying to get my body in balance has not been easy.

Thank you so much for your info. I live in Los Angeles and my health insurance is through Kaiser (large medical institution who tell doctors how to think in my opinion). I have been doing keto for about a year now (lost 45+ pounds) leaning far into carnivore. My annual blood work reveals I am high in my proteins. I assume this would be the case given my diet of mostly eggs and beef (27% fat, 73% lean) and various other meats such as liver etc. My question is, does a carnivore diet keep one's blood work high in proteins and does the typical doctor not know a healthy ration of protein in the body given carnivore / keto diet? Also, is a high cholesterol count typical for a carnivore / keto diet individual? Lastly, where in the heck do I find a doctor that has this knowledge so I may be under the care of one who aligns with my beliefs of a healthy diet? I am completely healthy, exercise 5 days a week, do not smoke or drink, 60 years old, no meds.

Thank you for explaining this so well. I knew I was having poor intestinal motility but did not know why. I have been rejecting so much traditional medical advice since I had breast cancer in 2006. It has been a long personal educational journey, but by trial and error and research, IBS seems to be improving with a ketovore diet. Now, if I could just get rid of insulin resistance! At age 68, decades of intestinal damage is taking years and ongoing committment to cure.

Sardines are actually more fatty than salmon! At 5% of the price! My favourite mid-day meal (3X a week) is a 110g can of sardines (I drain the oil and rinse the sardines), and a medium sized avocado. That's a 77%, 20%, 3% fat/protein/carb ratio. Good to go until 7pm!
My gut still not 100%, but getting there.

Rob, why is there such disagreement around fibre? Robert Lustig has done great work around the fight against sugar and getting the message out there about how damaging fructose is. You totally agree with all this, however the two of you totally disagree when it comes to the fibre requirements of the gut. You seem to be speaking the bio science ( I never miss one of your videos) and I hear and believe you, but it troubles me that Lustig (and others) don’t subscribe to the line you take on fibre. 😏. I also have struggled with constipation since doing strict keto. Not sure what that’s about. Prunelax helps.

So if someone has heavy heavy triclycerides without statins (900 to 1200) and 300 plus with statins and they are active physically , what do they do ? Will carnivore fix this or make it worse. Not overweight and quite active. I believe it is something genetic to be so high but no super bad effects yet but when go off statins jumps to 9 to 12 hundred. Suggestions ?

I am 80 I am apparently very young for my age , look good , feel great and think and behave like a 30 year old , as much as I can , but , the last couple of years I am having colon problems , diverticulitis , and 2 impactions both of which lasted for over a month and one polyps , plus two colonoscopies finding the two above problems . I think I have the diverticulitis under control drinking A.C.V. I have a meeting with a consultant this week , which might be interesting , because I will mention your views and see what he says . I think I will try the carnivore/ keto way after this meeting , unless you tell me I am to old , but I do intend to live as long as my mother 99 plus . Most people think I’m in my mid - late sixties . I would welcome your comments please . Thank you .

Is it possible that there is permanent damage in some people that no amount of carnivore can cure? My husband has been carnivore for 4 years now. He continues to get random diarrhea, random "coffee grounds" stool (blood?), random pale or greasy stools, random black stools (blood?), random nausea and vomiting, random dizziness, chronic acid reflux (treats with Gaviscon), random bloating/distension, now a prolapsed colon and a giant hemorrhoid, and chronic diarrhea; and though he initially lost some weight, it's now plateaued (he needs to lose another 80 lbs). The nausea and vomiting is the most debilitating of all and causes him to miss work 15-30 days a year. He had a HIDA scan that showed up as abnormal, but we are in Canada and can't see a specialist to interpret the scan because they rejected his referral (and we don't know why).
Is he SOL? Permanent damage? We went down the SIBO path years ago before carnivore and he's tried naturopathic remedies and also 3 courses of Rifaximin (waste of money, like you said). Celiac Disease (been gf for 7 years), normal motility test, colonoscopies and endoscopies showed nothing else except for mild gastritis and duodenitis. I just want my husband to get better. He's been very sick on and off for more than a decade.

I have been keto for 5 or 6 months now….I am not diabetic and don’t ever want to be. I have had rather severe abdominal discomfort coming on the past few years and it has completely ceased…all gone…not one single episode. I came for 10 pound weight loss and am now staying for the calm peaceful side effect of no tummy issues.

I’m 78 and have had problems with constipation most all my life, except during the numerous periods I battled alcoholism. Beer. I don’t drink anymore so I live with the C problem every day. It got even worse after 44 radiation treatments for prostate cancer in 2017. They fried my rectum. My colonoscopy earlier this year was normal. (?) Go figure. I started carnivore August 6 of this year. I hate to say it but now I have even more SEVERE chronic C. I don’t want to go back to SAD. The gurus say “just eat more fat,” which I have done. No change. “Here I sit, broken-hearted….” It seems like a simple problem to people that don’t have it. Any advice? TYVM. Gary SC 🇺🇸

I was diagnosed with Sibo and did a few rounds of antibiotics. Did not fix my problem. My gas bloating burping causes cardiac issues, PVCs. Been suffering over 13 years. With no resolution from doctors. Tried different, diets, supplements, no food. Water even causes me an issue. Supplements can be a major trigger. Whatever this is, it’s extremely miserable and life altering.

Human can eat many things, not just animal productions. Yes, we are not bovine and are not designed to ferment cellulose. However, human intestines are very similar to chimpanzees, and they are like us omnivores and can eat plants and meat. Gorrillas are better configured for plants, but chimps are closer to humans than to gorrillas. - It is not either or. It is both.
