My local discount shop LOVES me, as I take away their huge bags of folded down cardboard boxes for my projects. I get loads of free material for making all kinds of fun things, they save on their recycling charges, so everyone wins :-) Cardboard modelling was huge when I first started making "models" way back in the 1970's, and is still my go-to source of material for many of my projects. Now it's called "creative recycling" but I still call it "FUN." :-)
This basic template can easily be embellished in small ways, to address the plainness issue. Applying a brown wash to the lower sections to imply dirt or mud. Sticking smaller, thinner bits of cardboard on the walls and painting them metallic to look like machines or conduits (a similar effect could be done with lengths of scrap wire or bent paperclips). Flicking red or rusty brown paint, to imply a blood splatter. Printing out small pictures of propaganda posters and gluing them to the side. Writing graffiti on the walls with felt tip pens.
For sure, I tend to try and keep things simple to stop making the video super long and complex but those are some good ideas to help with the plainess!
For the price and time, its perfect! I would maybe try to paint it like its made out of some metal, because the walls are a bit too thin for concrete, but at the end its actually lot less disturbing, like I thought at the beginning.
Yeah, I didn't even speak about how much time it took, because it was only about 2 hours at most. I understand the issue in thickness and I wouldn't do it for a dio or something but for something from like 2 foot away on a table, I don't think you'd really notice!
The bunker looks great and using cardboard was a really good idea since most people have boxes around the house. The texture of the bunker looks like concrete and the colors are perfect. Thanks for sharing this neat tutorial.
Simple but very effective. Your channel is great for maximizing what you can get out of very little, as a beginner to the hobby it's very enjoyable to see.
Followed the tutorial and came out great! Thank you! For mine I decided not to glue the top on, so in a game a unit of troops can be moved inside without needing to pick the whole thing up
Hey remember when Midwinter Minis made those concrete walls? Guy made a paste mixture that included flour and salt and coated the styrofoam with that. It gets a nice concrete texture when it dries. That might be even cheaper than the spackle or filler etc.
Great now I have the tune of Diggy Diggy Hole stuck in my head. I am a Smurf shootin' from a hole Shooty shooty hole, shooty shooty hole I am a Smurf shootin' from a hole Shooty shooty hole, shooty shooty hole
great video! I think it's better to make an embrasure a bit higher and make a kind of a step near it, so the figures would be covered insight and protected from direct fire, and figures on the step could do shooting
Hey! I know this is cheap terrain and therefore a bit counter intuitive to ask for patreon support, but if you would like to help me make terrian making more available to as many people as possible. I would love your support (no pressure if you can't or don't want to!) - www.patreon.com/TerrainMadeEasy
@@TerrainMadeEasy definitely, looking forward to trying now. Just a matter of how big i can go for super heavy vehicles! 😇 Think I'd need to add support if I went massive?
I like the idea of crafting Bunkers out of cardboard. I'm gonna have to try it. It sounds like a good temporary bunker until I can get more plastic bunkers.
Thank you for this video, I was looking for a way to texture cardboard to appear as concrete. Does the polyfilla texture ever flake off or break off at all? is there any chance of it coming off once its on? Im thinking of mixing Modpodge into the spackle and black paint mix.
Hey, do you have any idea's on how to do a thatched roof for some dark-middle age's terrain? I am going to try faux fur but I'm not sure how that will turn out and I'm looking alternative idea's.
It's not something I have done but faux fur seems to work, as does maybe twine (rope threads). I reck The Terrain Tutor probably has some good tips on it.

oo nice, it is a classic!
More cardboard constructions please
Heh you are on to me, that's pretty much why I made this :)
Love your cardboard builds, that’s my afternoon sorted!
Thanks and good luck, I will be trying to do a few more cardboard builds in the coming months :)

Excellent thanks for this. Dying the filler first is a good idea.
Thanks, yeah it just helps incase it chips a little, you don't have to repaint that area or anything.
Cool, Jay. Thanks for the fun build.
My pleasure and thank you :)
Great video, cannot wait for more cardboard terrain ideas!! Keep being awesome and cant wait for next video.
Thank you very kindly indeed :)

Yeah I fully considered that and I do like it, happy you managed it :)

It is sheaper but I don't like the idea os using bio stuff like that incase it gets mold etc but filler in the uk is like £1 so pretty darn cheap.

I wasn't the only one!!!
This is cool and a nice addition to the imperial bunker you made 👍, awsome.
Yeah this is more your classic kind of bunker, but I think the cardboard is oddly a great material for it as well. Thanks :)
Super solid bunker, nice job man!
Thank you :)
Great work my friend
Thank you very kindly :)
I would have fed some pics up through the corners on the front shooty hole so it gave some support there too.
Funny you say that, I actually considered it, but honestly it's pretty solid. Nice idea though and hope some people do that :)
I can’t believe I haven’t thought of cardboard for terrain, cheers for the idea!
My pleasure, good luck
Looks good, easy to build, cheap. What's not to like? Great job! 👍

I will accept “Shooty Hole” as an official term...off to find cardboard.
I mean, that's just the proper name for it so it makes sense you'd accept it. Good luck :)
The blood god is pleased with your simple approach. Subscribed
Praise be to the blood god, does he need praising? I don't know. But thank you :)
Great vid Jay, the bunker looks awesome mate.
Thank you very much Mr East :)
Yeah, perfect!
Thanks :)
Good stuff bro ..
Might put a base and have the top lid like a box put in the base some magnetic sheets and these can double as my cadian storage boxes.
yeah I think it's just preference, I think Miscast had a bunker with a lid. A magnet lid would be cool.
That looks great!
Thank you kindly :)
Hiya Jay, Long time-no see! Hope you and your Family are keeping well? I thoroughly enjoyed your tutorial! Kind Regards as always Johnny
Everyone is well, hope all of yours are well also. and thank you very much :)
Very nice
Thank you :)
This is great mate, Time to do a few and upscale them to do s full table sized bunker complex! 😇😉
I do think you could make a few of them and make a great table!

A while ago The Crafting Muse showed a very good looking technique with twine: ruclips.net/video/QK4g8IgfkBQ/видео.html
@@jherazobtwine was way cheaper than faux fur. Joannes fur was $50/yd and twine is $8 for a huge ball of it.
Amazing. I want to tru this technique with medieval style builds. What kind of filler are you using here?
I just got my new TV stand in a nice, big, cardboard box... Well, of to get the cutter :)
Heh good luck :)
Please do cardboard buildings and farm
👏👏👏
I paused at 0.07 due to doorbell. the image is unfortunate :) trust me I look worse on my best day :) Thanks for the vid the bunker is good work.
interesting) yes yes
My pleasure, thank you
done subcribe bro.. make it easy idea🙏 tq..
Thanking you kindly :)
What is the exact stuff you called filler? The stuff you mixed with the black paint?
Spackle, wall joint compound is another name
@@TerrainMadeEasy thanks
well I'm gonna be "that guy", but... does this built realy needs a "how to..." video?
