I have to agree; I would not have thought to make it up to a thick paste consistency rather than the gap-filling consistency I've always seen it made to, and then used as raw material to roll out 'new' plastic sheeting.
This channel is some of the best shit on RUclips. Just a cheerful guy showing you how to do cool stuff with your models. Borderline heart-warming, keep up the good work man.
Ive been using sprues to liven up my bases, the crystals are my favorite, my girlfriend loves making candles and sticks of dynamite. Your creativity is a gift and has caused me to spend more time converting my models and bases with things that I would have ignored before, thank you!
I love this video for showing me how to melt sprues... first time I'd ever heard of that and I am excited to play around with it. Only criticism I have is I wish you had showed the mold you used to get the texture on the side panels. I get that you plan to feature it in another video, and it would be holy appropriate to make a video showing how to create that mold... but I still wish you had showed it being used and gave an idea of how long into the drying process we should use it.
These came out soo well.. and I love how rough they look, as they feel like they belong more in a war-torn environment than if they had been smooth and perfect
try to get a texture with a steel brush for metal (you will get a wood pattern...) light the plastic with a lighter and stretch it into thin wires (barbed wire for trenches, for example...). When you burn plastic with a lighter, you can make tree branches. the tip of the ballpoint pen leaves a mark that looks like rivets. Melt nescaffe in the liquid plastic primer and you will get a perfect rust! (free!)
I just picked up a few comissions and now Ive got a ton of sprue left over, was just about to visit yer tutorial on how to make the gooey stuff and this popped up. Im ok with that.
My jaw nearly hit the floor when I saw you using the goo to make parts with. I always thought the best one could do with sprues was to cut them apart and glue the pieces back together in funny ways, so i've been recycling most of mine for years. This is making me think twice about that!
I stumbled across your channel while searching for paint schemes. Now I can't get enough, you have truly inspired me and my boy to make scenery and such
I recently used some Round Sprue too add some spikey bits to an Ork Warboss I was making. Just sharpen one end slightly, cut it off as flat as possible and attach it. Once it's on you can shape it to match the model a little better with a hobby knife. Any leftover gaps can just be filled with green stuff/crack filler. Worked like a charm and I have you to thank! Cheers from Canada!
Apparently btw this works with ABS plasric too. Which is what toys and the external parts of lots of consumer products are made of. There are industrial solvents for gluing that stuff together thst are less fume-intensive than straight acetone. Plastruct and possibly other brands make solvents that can weld ABS to model styrene too.
Found your channel today love what your doing! I hate the thought of wasting all that plastic. Definitely going to make some stuff with this! Any chance if you showing how you made the corrugated steel mould?
Awesome mate. Hadn't even considered rolling out into sheets, let alone the textured rollers or moulds instead of using greenstuff. Cheers for the ideas.
This is my first visit to your channel. I never considered leaving plastic bits in a jar of acetone to create a plastic putty-like material. This is fantastic! Now all my failed FDM prints and print scraps. I don't build anything that comes on a sprue, but I have plenty of 3D printer refuse.
I really like your sprue builds. I have a bunch of Warhammer figures and such and I was thinking, there must be some way to use all the leftover plastic from your models. I never actually knew how until after I saw one of your videos on how to use sprues. With ooey gooey spruey stuff you can make virtually anything you could make with clay, I appreciate the information. Keep up the good effort.
Back in like 1996 or so I was building something in cardboard and using PVA as a strengthener. When I painted acrylic onto it I had the cracking. So I thought what if I mix PVA into the acrylic? Well not only did that layer not crack, and that layer also appear to softened the visible cracks of the layer below it, but it also added a bit of rigidity. I didn’t try varnishing over it tho so idk how well that would work.
I live in a one bed room apartment/flat and have been getting into the hobby. Got myself some sprues and been wanting to do stuff with them so i don't make more clutter. Was inspired by earlier videos to make terrain pieces and just seeing how you do this so masterfully is awesome!! Looking forward to future vids!!
I'm an avid painter and collector over here in the US and I have like, 5 laundry baskets packed with sprues lmao. Trying to sprue glue and use as much as I can but school and work is making it hard for me to get to the laborious task of cutting em down. If only we had a recycling program here in the US....
As I've seen mentioned below, the containers that are sold by GW are really cartoony, and imo not fitting for 40k. Whereas THIS, this truly represents old, rusty, dirty and abandoned containers. I love them ! Amazing work, I'm really happy I found you
I have a rust technique you might like, my fellow hobby hackers! It's called "salt weathering." Essentially, paint your model/terrain brown/rust coloured. Then, after its dry, apply water to the areas you'd like rust. Pour table salt over the model. It will stick to the water, but will come off easily from the dry surfaces. Leave it to dry out, and paint the model in your desired colour scheme. The salt will form mounds over the rust areas that mask some of your paint. After the paint is dry, remove the salt and voila, rust effect!
I've recently learned and tried the salt chipping method, it works great. Though next time I want to splatter some oranges and browns on my base coat of rust before doing the chipping and main colors.
Awesome video, love to see how you create the container sides, I have been using cardboard boxes to make containers, but where I am here in Oz we have a mice plague, have to throw some of my terrains away, now your containers, suit my Catachan jungle with damaged and aged, rusted Containers, can't wait for more video's cheers from DownUnder.
Would definitely be cool to see you do something that needs to look alot neater than ork tek, like an imperial/space marine tank or maybe one of the titans. Think of it as a challenge :D Terrain is always cool tho, could maybe look at making equivalents to some of GW's kits?

Always happy to see more sprue terrain. I feel like most people enjoy these because it enables us to get some hse out of sprues AND saves a ton of money from having to buy dedicated terrain sets. Always better to spend that money on more models. At least that's why I personally enjoy sprue terrain most
Another awesome build, was considering using Aluminium soda cans or coffee pots as a possible sheet material for making containers with, but sprues look like a much safer alternative :) I was wondering if there was a maximum time you can leave the sprues in the acetone before the material is unrecoverable?
Truly inspirational, sprue users should take note. Have you tried silicone mould? I've got some of those funky ice cube trays. Thought about using dregs from the resin bottles to see they come out, but Oowey Spruey Gooey might also work.

I’d love to know if the goo can be used in silicone molds. I don’t see why not but like imagine the possibilities right?
