The idea of plumbers and just general maintenance in the 40k setting is sending me. "Well, I could just fix up the hole but y'got yourself some 'nids there, mate."
Two questions … Q1) Does the grease on the cardboard ever interfere with adhesion? Q2) How do you prevent the bases from being wobbly once all the material have finished drying? Thanks!
Classic. I think alot of us started here, and its a nice reminder you can make great terrain without selling a kidney for MDF kits and resin. Good stuff man!
I'd love to buy a proper set of Cathedral terrain but fuck me, a whole set of that stuff costs about half an army. Meanwhile I can pump out my own terrain with a bunch of shit from the dollar store and still have money to eat. Real hard choice, that.
Just want to shout out and say thank you for this vid. I have been creating a gaming table, work still ongoing, but four of the buildings I have created from card and other things in line with the guidance of your video. I'm no master terrain builder, but following your guidance they look awesome, so thank you very much!
Glad your table is looking good! Terrain is just all about doing more, and doing more and you're never gonna stop learning and getting better. Hope you. enjoy the journey!
Back in my Flames of Wars days I bashed out an entire ruined town out of delivery pizza boxes the night before a game. It lives on in a box in my shop labeled, "Kardograd"
My favorite terrain piece of all time were the soda cans I had piling up for recycling. Just so damn much you can do with them. Mini-outpost stations, power conduits, shelters, Small T'au bunkers, Necron....*things*. This, however, really opened my eyes a bit more. I've been dabbling with pre-built terrain from my local pet store/Walmart with incredibly cheap/cool results too. Amazing job! Subbed!
Back in the mist shrouded days of 4e 40k I used to make my space marines drop pods out of coke cans, corrugated cardboard and foamcore board. Was great stuff. Think I might just do that again, feeling a little nostalgic now.
Dude this brought back some nostalgia for me .. when I first got into warhammer at the ripe age of 10 . (21 YEARS AGO) I used to attempt making ruins with cardboard. They looked like a bag shit but I loved the process . Gaawwd I wish RUclips and MS Paint was around back then . Love your videos pal I watch them all the time and i love your humour. Would love a game one day . Much lovo x
5:41 barricades aren't just stuff to stop bullets or other weapons, they are also for hiding you from the sightline of enemies, discouraging passage through certain areas and alerting you if someone does pass through
So, I actually love working with cardboard for terrain... but I've held off on using pizza boxes specifically because of the food stains issue. I'm legitimately concerned about incorporating left over grease, tomato sauce, & cheese into something that's going to sit on my shelf for years. Does anyone have suggestions on how to reasonably clean/remove/sterilize the leftover pizza gunk? Or assurances that I'm worrying to much, & a good enough seal stops pests?
Loved this video and now watched (always check its family friendly ) will show our school group. Showing them how effective this sort of build can be really inspires them and not just in wargaming terrain creation. Also ticks the reuse instead of recycle box as well. Now to convince the school to buy the pizzas from the budget. Thanks for another great video.
These look great dude, and super cheap to make is right up my street. That secret ingredient, that’s the pricey stuff right there! None of that cheap flour! Great video dude
@@MSPaintsYou've inspired me to make a bombed out street. My favourite way of making glowing embers is to use red Easter egg paper, well crushed, and brushed over with mascara. Against a dark background, it's amazingly realistic.
kitty letter also make some for some great basing for models and terrain. need mix it with some water down pve, but you can to a degree make crack ground, trench much etc.

Very impressive modeling, brilliant use of waste materials, I learn a lot with your videos.watch your language, I watch the videos with my kids, know your audience . Good luck 👍
Love how that texture turned out, that's a great tip. All pizza boxes are great material :D Freezer pizza boxes tend to be thicker versions of the stuff cereal boxes are made of, it takes texture really nice if you draw on it with a pen.
New to hobby, new to the channel - loving the posts - used this as inspiration at the weekend to build some scenery for me and my son - some great ideas to help us build loads of terrain. Can't wait to get into this hobby more and more - thanks buddy :)
Great video man! They turned out great. Wet cat food boxes also make great wee houses and terrain pieces with the cardboard so thick, and if you're a cat owner, never ending supply 👌
Just wanted to wish you and yours a very happy holidays! Also, hoping your not uploading a video so far this month is because you are just too busy settling into your house and enjoying a much deserved break! All the best in the coming year.
Great video as always! I'm thinking of creating a garden of Nurgle, do you think I should just leave the pizza in and wait a few weeks? Would you be able to make a follow up vid? 😂
Rad build Dave, love using the flour for texture. I’ve not done that before, gonna have to try it out. Those little pipes are clutch to have on hand too. 🤘
These are as good as at least 90% of the terrain I've played among, you actually get it on the table for one thing. You can make the shell of any sort of structure. I still prefer tile grout to flour but that's just me.
Really great results, I aim to emulate this project! Just need to justify to my wife that buying a titan for the off-cuts to decorate pizza boxes is good housekeeping... fingers crossed, wishe me luck!!!! Lol!!!
Love the channel… and the terrain Looks great mate!! I Always have to watch your videos twice pal, miss so much the first time round because I can’t stop fucking howling 🤣. Hope you and yours are well mate 👍
I really like the idea of using flour for the texture 😱😍 I'm going to try it with my first piece of homemade terrain (a small classic cardboard corner ruin) and I have a question first. After applying the flour, could I use some watered down PVA glue applied with a really fine diffuser to seal it before painting it instead of varnish? or would it be too much liquid and get the flour soaked and ruined? Thanks and great video man, I really really like it and going to use it for reference for a lot of techniques and little tricks to apply to my projects. Cheers 😄
I suspect it wouldn’t break the flours surface, and it’d sit on top. But if you find a diffuser that works please let me know, I’d prefer to do that over varnish
@@MSPaints Yep, I dredged them through vinegar and then microwaved them for exactly 17 min. Now not only are they as good as new, but they have since glowed this poppin magenta.
Is grout the best material to use? I need to fill some tops of some cardboard walls I’ve made. Can you put grout at the bottom, as a stand for kind of rock and does it stick to the cardboard?
I just loaded up on free wine boxes out of Tesco. Cardboard without the gross grease stains! Being engineered to carry glass means they're quite robust.
2 years late but just seen this. I'm in my 60s now but when I was a kid I made loads of dioramas using newspapers and flour as papier-mache. We lived in an old farmhouse at the time and they all went mouldy.😂
2:50 Well yeah, of course the second floor is always intact for a good vantage point, what else are the two armies fighting over other than good vantage points?
I'm totally throwing out my tile grout, now. Ever since I had a bad asbestos scare, i'm always nervous to use any sort of inorganic solid in my crafts.
The idea of plumbers and just general maintenance in the 40k setting is sending me. "Well, I could just fix up the hole but y'got yourself some 'nids there, mate."

Thanks!
I don't know what's more classy. The smooth jazz or the use of waste materials.
Just a classy jazzy guy sticking trash together.

7:00 I've got some of those Painters Touch cans from Rustolium. I'm not a fan, nothing water based sticks over them.
As I discovered when applying washes, haha. A Matt varnish seems to deal with the issue.
