The Chevrolet Chevelle is a mid-sized automobile that was produced by Chevrolet in three generations for the 1964 through 1978 model years. Part of the General Motors (GM) A-body platform, the Chevelle was one of Chevrolet's most successful nameplates. Body styles included coupes, sedans, convertibles, and station wagons. The "Super Sport" versions were produced through the 1973 model year and Lagunas from 1973 through to 1976.[1]
After a four-year absence, the El Camino was reintroduced as part of the new Chevelle lineup in 1964.
The G-body Monte Carlo, introduced in 1970, also used a platform that was based heavily on the Chevelle platform, although it was lengthened ahead of the firewall.
From 1964 through 1969, GM of Canada sold a modified version of the Chevelle that included a Pontiac-style grille and a LeMans instrument panel, marketed as the Beaumont.
The Malibu was the top-of-the-line model through 1972 and completely replaced the Chevelle nameplate starting with the redesigned and downsized 1978 model year.
The Chevelle SS 396 became a series of its own in 1966 with series/style numbers 13817 and 13867. SS396 sport coupes and convertibles used the same Malibu sport coupe and convertible bodies with reinforced frames and revised front suspension: higher-rate springs, recalibrated shocks, and thicker front stabilizer bar, but with different exterior trim. They also had simulated hood scoops, red-stripe tires, and bright trim moldings. The engines included three 396 cu in (6.5 L) V8s - the standard, rated at 325 hp (242 kW), an optional 360 hp (270 kW), and an optional 375 hp (280 kW) (the mid-horsepower 396 was rated at 360 hp (270 kW) for 1966 and 350 hp (260 kW) thereafter). The SS 396 series lasted from 1966 through 1968 before being relegated to an option package in 1969. The 1966 and 1967 model years were the only two years of the 'strut back' 2-door sport coupe with its own style number, 17.

1966 readying for my visit to Vietnam, one of the "guys" had a brand new SS 396 Chevelle that his new bride's family bought them as a wedding gift. I got several rides in it. I still remember the thrill of acceleration and burning rubber. The guy didn't make it back. Your build is spot on. Thanks again for sharing.

Actually Chris, I believe the reason the fan blades are spaced is so the fan doesn,'t roar, love this CHEVELLE,great build, Chris!!

      I’d heard that also.
The irregular spacing makes it run quieter.
      Who would have guessed.

I want this kit! I might build it as a gasser, but it would be cool to build it stock, but lowered a bit, and some Crager ss wheels. Oh yeah, I love the color, I guess I missed the can info when I was watching.

Nicely built Chris! This kit was really fun to build, I agree the final of the body fit to interior/chassis is a bit of a struggle, but the end result is excellent! 👍 1:08:09 1:08:09

I built this one a while back!
I did just as you did but I painted mine red!
    It is a nice build!
I was worried about the steering column underneath the hood and now I remember what kit it was from the 61 Impala!
So take note if you build the 61 Impala do not add the steering column on to the fire wall until you get the body on the the assembly frame and interior!
    Nice build! I enjoyed it!

I don't build kits anymore, I just don't have the patience, I've probably smashed more kits then I built, they just make me loose my mind, but I do like watching these build videos, and plus they have become so expensive, by the time you buy the kit, the paint, the glue, any sanding pads, it has become an expensive hobby for me, so now I just watch builds witch I find very satisfying so thank you for posting and building.

I noticed with the Molotov Chrome pen (brilliant thing) that it needs to be left to dry for at least a few days or touching the finish with your fingers dulls the chrome finish. Nice build though, never used future floor polish as a laquer. Always use acrylic clear spray tins, may give the polish a try over clear? Those AMT kits are very expensive here in the UK, equivalent of 70 to 80 US dollars over here.

Chris. I love watching you use different brands of common spray paint instead of high priced Testor / Model Master series paints. More often, you use the Rust-oleum painters Touch 2X. These are available at Walmart. I recently got back into modeling primarily due to you videos, tips and techniques that I never did. I am doing Snowman's truck and trailer from the movie Smokey and the Bandit. I didn't use 2X primer on the truck body (used a premium model primer) but I did use the 2X Gloss Black on all the truck body parts. I found the 2X Gloss Black to be easily scratched by my fingers and leaves imprints even after 3 days of hardening. The paint didn't adversely react with the primer. Do you find at times the 2X paints do this? I still have the trailer to build and I will use the 2X Flat Black primer and then the 2X Gloss Black. I feel I need to do a clear coat on the truck before continuing, I will use 2X clear coat of course. I just don't want to be forced to use the expensive model paint's. It's a bag of worms, but what are your thoughts? I know you talk about environment and the paint temp. I did paint these in a bit cooler temperatures, in my work-shed during the day and then brought the parts inside. I'll try to find and review your vids but anything helps for your opinion!
    Cheers!
    Earl

I can remember building this kit years ago. I always liked when they had the Valve train details in the heads. I could remember building it with the valve cover laying on the fender. I wish all kits included under the hood decals. Battery decals, caution decals, all of that make such a difference under the hood

Once again another great build of a lovely subject. In terms of the warp you noticed in the body, why do these things tend to show up after you've done a really nice paint job and you're ready to get it all wrapped up? I had a similar dilemma a year ago when I built Revell's Smokey and the Bandit Firebird.

Chris. You mention about putting the body into a dehydrating booth (@ 58:57) in the vid. Is that after it's painted, plus most of us don't have that. I know you say it at the end of all builds that you use Future Floor polish. I really want to try that and I know I seen you demonstrate it, but can't find the vid. Do you know what video that was in?
    Cheers!
