1970 Ford Torino Cobra Jet 429 1/25 Scale Model Kit Build How To Assemble Paint Decal Interior Engine 14534 4534 rmx4534 85-4534 854534
There is a certain breed of performance car that is made to do one thing…go fast. With its sleek SportsRoof shape, the 1970 Ford Torino Cobra is one of those machines that looks like it’s “moving out” even when it’s standing still. This no-frills Cobra packs a mighty punch in the form of a 370-horse 429 Cobra Jet Ram-Air V-8 that delivers top-shelf performance on the street or at the drag strip.
Features
Big-block 429 Cobra Jet V-8 engine
High-back front bucket seats
Shaker hood scoop
Optional rear-window louvers
All-new expanded decal sheet with factory-stock markings and Twister Special stripe option
Molded in white, transparent red and clear with chrome plated parts and soft black tires.
The Ford Torino is an automobile that was produced by Ford for the North American market between 1968 and 1976. It was a competitor in the intermediate market segment and essentially a twin to the Mercury Montego line.
Just as the Ford LTD had been the upscale version of the Ford Galaxie, the Torino was initially an upscale variation of the intermediate-sized Ford Fairlane. In the 1968 and 1969 model years, the intermediate Ford line consisted of lower-trim Fairlanes and its subseries, the upper-trim Torino models. In 1970, Torino became the primary name for Ford's intermediate, and the Fairlane was now a subseries of the Torino. In 1971, the Fairlane name was dropped altogether, and all Ford intermediates were called Torino.
Most Torinos were conventional cars, and generally the most popular models were the four-door sedans and two-door hardtops. However, Ford produced some high-performance "muscle car" versions of the Torino by fitting them with large powerful engines, such as the 428 cu in (7.0 L) and 429 cu in (7.0 L) "Cobra-Jet" engines. Ford also chose the Torino as the base for its NASCAR entrants, and it has a successful racing heritage.

Age:12+
Number of parts:128
Length:219 mm
Width:76 mm
Height:60 mm
The Torino Cobra remained the top performance model, but was a lower level of trim than the Torino GT. The Cobra was only available as a SportsRoof, and came standard with a 4-speed close ratio transmission, Hurst shifter, competition suspension, flat black hood and grille, 7-inch-wide wheels, F70-14 tires with raised white letters, twist style exposed hood latches and "Cobra" emblems.[15][14] New options included 15 in (380 mm) Magnum 500 wheels with F60-15 tires and flat black "Sport Slats" for the rear window (both also available on the Torino GT). Performance was strong even though the Torino was heavier for 1970. Motor Trend tested a 1970 Torino Cobra equipped with the Ram Air 370 hp (276 kW), 429 CJ, C-6 automatic and 3.50:1 rear axle, and it went from 0 - 60 mph (97 km/h) in 6.0 seconds while taking 14.5 seconds at 100 mph (161 km/h) to go through the quarter-mile. Motor Trend wrote "The weight obviously helped traction, as it was fairly easy to accelerate away from a standing start with only a modicum of wheelspin." Motor Trend also tested a 1970 Cobra with a 429 SCJ, 4-speed and 3.91:1 gears, and resulted in a 5.8-second 0 - 60 mph (97 km/h) time, with a 13.99-second quarter-mile at 101.0 mph (162.5 km/h).[16] Super Stock and Drag Illustrated bested that time, in their test of a Torino Cobra equipped with the 375 hp (280 kW), 429 SCJ, C-6 automatic, and 3.91:1 rear gears. They were able to run the quarter-mile in 13.63 seconds at 105.95 mph (170.51 km/h), however, this was after the carburetor had been modified (improved power valve, larger primary and secondary jets). Super Stock and Drag Illustrated fitted a pair of slicks to the same Torino and ran a 13.39 seconds at 106.96 mph (172.14 km/h).
Looks like another home run from Revell. Well done.
Thats a very classic car Ford Torino Cobra Jet 429. 🚗🚗🚗🚗🤗🤩☺️❤😊
SHE LOOKS Sweet!! ..Nice light Blue..!...I'm doing mine in a Forest Green...
Im going to do mine in orange to go with the Twister Special decals.
I enjoy your build videos!
I like the colors you pick. Cant wait to get one of these!
I like the blue you all way make look easy, great build
Turned out great
The 429 Super Cobra Jets aka Drag Pak included an engine oil cooler, 375 horse 429 with Holley 780, and either 3.91 Traction-Lok or 4.30 Detroit Locker diff.
Thanks for the video.
Looking forward to getting the Torino, it's a GREAT time to be a modeler!!! 👍👍
Will defenitly be getting one of those now! Sweet kit!!!
This one is on my list .
Awesome build Chris! Very nice color choices.
Awesome build and presentation Chris 👏 👌 👍
Great looking model Chris ! Love the color. Thanks for the review!

Perfect amount of detail. Great build too
Awesome build and paint Chris! What a cool kit. Gots to get me one.
Looks very good, I like the blue you chose for the car. Thanks for the build.
Great video Chris keep em coming and I'll keep watching
Had a 71 Torino, not the fastback coupe, and had a 351 not a 429. This brings back memories. Definitely picking this one up.
My grandpa's car is a 71 with the 429 in green
@@curtisboorum4709 mine was green also, black vinyl top. Wish I hadn't sold it
AWESOME BUILD LOVE THAT 1970 TORINO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had a 1970 fastback in grabber green. It had a 351C in it. The trunk in those are big enough to put a bed in it. Sounded good when I put some headers on her.
Beautiful car!
Nice call going with the blue on blue. Looks legit!!
wow looking at this kit yesterday have a 69 gt thanks for the tips color is dead on nice build 😁thanks again scooter d😎
Great job! looks just like the real car.
Cool always thanks
Awesome job! Looks fantastic!
Thank you! Cheers!
Years ago I had a friend that had this exact real car! Boy, it would run!
Nice build.
What a wonderful car! Maybe one day I will have one in my garage :) Thanks for the build
LOVE that blue interior. I'm gonna try that blue technique on one of my 90s Thunderbird SC kits. That blue technique of yours has answered my modeling prayers I might be able to finally replicate that 80s 90s ford blue. That Torino looks great, Keep it up man !!!!!
It's funny you'd post this today when I just saw Revell USA post about it on their Facebook page earlier. Looks like a great kit and your build up looks awesome!
Great job mate👍
Super!!!
Another great build video Cris the blue on blue is definitely a great color combination an thanks for the time you put into are videos
Thanks 👍
Absolutely stunning build the colour looks excellent great watch
Great video, looking to order me a few of these, look like great kits🤙🏼 enjoy the holiday weekend
I'm watching your video while I'm building mine. I'll be painting mine Medium Quasar Blue with a satin white interior. I'm not building the Twister version so I'm not sanding off the side vents.
As usual, another superb tutorial!
Yup...Just picked up this AWESOME KIT.!!
The tooling on this kit is amazing
Theyre bringing out some excellent kits now days.
Beautiful job Chris.
Your models are great living on a pension from service doesn't allow me to build anymore but I live vicariously through yo.
Cool! I just ordered one for myself!
Thanks for the video!
Bee You Tea build!
Ford made the "real" one. You just made the best version.
Great way to kick off a "Three Day". See you all at the BBQ pit - with a cold one.
Thanks Chris...
Great looking build. You definitely make building look easy, but it isn’t hard to do that when you are building a great kit like this one. Revell proves again that they are the best American model company. Thanks for sharing.
Looks great, love the colour
Nice color combo, looks terrific chris.
It looks very impressive Chris! Plus all excellent review. I like the idea of the side marker lights being open, I hope this becomes more standard. I'll be picking one up soon!
The Torino looks awesome my friend
My friend had one of these The car was fast
!
Very nice kit I must grab me one, beautiful color as well .. nicely built as always 👌🏿
good kit to make the mad max car with
Sweet build Chris. I really like the interior color with the outside. Very nice
Built this one mabye 20 years ago or so not sure but great kit then and now love it
Turned out great as always Chris you do an excellent job in building these kits 👍👍
This is twice now that after I've ordered a kit, I've then found you vid of you building it! I had hoped it had options in building it. I prefer the GT with hidden headlights and wide tail lights.
I got mine a few days ago
Beautiful model of a great musclecar! Nice video!😁🤟🛠️
Thank you for another great build sir always looking forward to what is next on your channel love the colors and the tips happy labor day
Awesome, thank you!
Awesome! REVELL, please please re issue 1962 dodge dart 440, 1962 plymouth fury and your old plymouth valiant. I dare say from us modellers point of view those would sell!
Beautiful Torino Chris! Love the blue on blue! I am definitely ecstatic about this one coming out! I've got both Revell '76 Gran Torino's in my stash presently!
Wish they would put out a 72 Gran Torino Sport. As a kid, I thought the Starsky & Hutch "Big Tomato" was the coolest, but as an adult did care for the more formal roof and big ass bumpers of the 74 - 76 Torinos.
I built a Torino like this as a kid. Think I will try to do another now with this kit.
The hood might look cool in a carbon fiber style look
gonna paint mine Orange
Awesome ride! I wish they would release a NASCAR version of it.
There was a Nascar version of it back in the early 70s I think it was revell I remember building it when I was 8 or 9.
@@andrewmcgibbon9785 It must have had a very low production run. I have been able to score a couple of 73-74 NASCAR Torino's. A Jo-Han one and an MPC.
The last version of this was the 70 Torino GT 2n1 it has a roll cage, headers, and a pair of slicks. But I would say get a 69 Torino Cobra for the Nascar parts, it looks like should work without too much modification if any.
@@purpurahaze9179 Do you know which company made it?
@@mattfulmer4243 AMT made the 69 Torino Cobra kit you can build it stock, street machine or as a Nascar that way you got another kit to build if it don't work. The last one I got was from 2003 but they have put out another one more recently just make sure it has the parts you want.
I'm building it now. Looks like the left quarter panel above the wheel opening deformed a little. Appears bad mold area like mine was. I had to file it flat and sand it smooth again. No puddy necessary. Love the box art .
Fantastic kit! Great choice for the interior color. White was only available on the Torino GT (hidden headlights, honeycomb taillight that spans the rear fascia) , not the Cobra (fixed headlights, separate taillights), so lovely the box art wouldn't represent a factory combo (but a resto-mod, yes!). Love the hood decal, vs what they give in the Mustang Boss 302, for example, where you have to paint part of it ... can always see a seam between the two.
Really well done Chris! I picked car modeling back after a 50 year hiatus. I have learned so much from watching your build/review videos. You make this hobby truly fun and enjoyable. QUESTION - do you use the floor polish on the chrome as well? Also, what chrome parts do you usually use the matte clear spray on? Thanks for all your efforts on putting these videos together… well appreciated! I’m from the mid-west as well… born and raised in Michigan/Motor City (love muscle cars and have owned several over the years). I’ve been to Wisconsin many times on business… super state! Keep on building!!!
Cool! I have an older version of this kit that came with some photo etch parts. I think it's green on the box art. I've thought about making it as an American version of the Mad Max Interceptor since they're really close in styling.
This is my grandpa's car but is a 71 and it'd green
Some interesting features in this kit, like the separate side marker lights which I don't think I have ever seen before. My shortest lived model kit ever was the old AMT 1969 version of this car, which for whatever reason didn't go together smoothly at all. This one looks a lot more promising. This Grabber Blue color really suits it, and I actually saw one of the new Mustang Mach E EVs in that same color just a few days ago.
Don't know if it's been mentioned yet but those twister decals go with them side stripes...😉👍
You've 'pumped-out' another stellar model Chris. The double Blue looks great! You could've gone with White or Black interior, but I think the Blue looks more interesting. Good job. 👍 🦘
That came out just lovely. I wonder if that blue color is still available, you can never tell with Testors these days.
REVELL came out with the nicest muscle cars, (Moebius now being a close second if not at par I say), AMT has a few good newer tooling ones but REVELL is really on it. Darts, Chargers, 5.0 LXs, Torinos, new tool Cudas, GTXs, Coronets, 442s, Talladegas, Thunderbolts, 68/69/71 Mustangs, all good and satisfying kits. Just hope they had gone 1/24….
I just ordered 3 Moebius Hudson Hornets off Ebay. Best kits I've ever had the pleasure of constructing.
@@TI4438 I’ve been looking at the Hornet for a while, never got one… I guess I should!
@@sydrider6023 as far as I know they are all out of production. Do not hesitate any longer.
Looks great! I always add spark plug wires, and plug wire boots to all of my engines now. Just had a question though, when you use Rust oleum two times mixture of primer and paint mixed together, sometimes I’ve had issues with the paint looking like popcorn on somebody’s roof really ugly. How do you get around that? Do you just shake the can really vigorously for two minutes to prevent that from happening?
ON MY MODEL , I WOULD HAVE PAINTED
THE TOP BLACK AS WELL AS THE REAR
DECK LID , THEN YOU WOULD HAVE A BLACK
STRIPE FROM FRONT TO BACK OVER THE CAR ❤️
BUT , OPINIONS VERY DEPENDING ON EACH
BUILDERS TASTE ❤️
Please! Your a ford man! I can see it! Very nice!
They updated the decal sheet. I have the orange box version of this kit.
Do you use regular ol superglue to glue painted part to painted part?
Thanks you putting the coils of steel on "suicide" instead of "shotgun" like the box . Lol I don't know if that's even still legal anymore. 😂.
I have the 2006 release I bought on eBay about a year ago, still unbuilt. Regretted buying it now that this one is out. Are there any major differences compared to the old release besides the packaging?
so its a rare option paint code car without ac, makes it more valuable. i remember the ford white interiors were very popular in those days. when i look at that car i see the mad max car i keep wanting to buy one and kit bash it to a Australian Falcon xb/gt does revel offer discounts if you buy multiple of the same kit? JK
I'm building Steve McQueen 1970 Porsche 917 LeMans #20 Gulf livery, what color of blue would you use ,having trouble finding the right shade of blue for this kit (Fujimi kit)
Probably oil cooler since it's a manual transmission
Good point
I'm a collector. Any kits your lookin for?
My wife owns a 1970 convertible Ford Torino GT She search for Model car kit. Convertible 1970 Ford Torino GT
Can you sell her one ?
