Fixing an LG Dishwasher "AE" Error is easy - once you find the source

  • I'm not an appliance repairman but I also hate paying someone to do things I'm capable of so when my LG dishwasher started giving an error code "AE" I decided to fix it myself.
    Fixing it was pretty easy - the hard part was figuring out exactly what had to be fixed and what part to order for the fix. It took probably 4 hours to diagnose and about 20 minutes to repair.
    Hopefully this will help someone else shorten those first 4 hours.

    Thanks for the video. I really appreciate those handy youtubers who are saving us all a significant amount in repairs. In my case, I believe my drainage hose detached from the brackets and got crimped. Water didn't drain properly and built up and eventually made it into the drainage tray through the overfill drain. (I'm not an expert, that's my guess). Because of your video, I took a sponge near the floater, did 3-4 good soaks and the dishwasher error went away. I've been running rinse and maintenance cycles to confirm if there is a leak by shining a flashlight along the side and checking for water before I insert the washer back in place. For those stuck with the AE error, soaking up the water in the floater tray (right next to the float ball sensor by sticking your hand through the side) will allow you to run the dishwasher again and check for leaks. Thanks again Yoshimoshi!

    That's a lot of work and diagnosis but a good repair job at the end. Just a little tip....Next time just heat the tube to make it flexible and expand a bit so that you can insert it without having to cut it... @ 7:40. It is also a very good idea to cut the power off from the electrical panel before working on live wires @ 3:57

Its flimsy, started acting up within months of buying it.The incredibly stupid design of the the placement on the touch controls should have been a warning. The plastic cracked and broke from the heat and steam and the washer door flexed like a glider wing. Junk. I just wish I could have put a bunch of rounds ln it before it goes away.

When I flip the breaker it comes back on in the same error still just draining nothing and beeping.

    • @YoshimoshiGarage
      @YoshimoshiGarage  2 года назад +1

      Yes, dish detergent pushes water past the seals. You have water down in the lower tray, which is holding the float up and triggering the code. You can stuff a towel or paper towels in through the front after taking off the kick plate and absorb it, allowing the float to drop and the code will go away.

    Im having the same error. I am not handy at all. I’m still under LG manufacturing warranty. The dishwasher keeps blinking the error message with a red light and makes draining noises about every 5 minutes. Should I call geek squad from Best Buy? Also my kitchen configuration is the same as yours. And my stove protrudes slightly so I will probably have to slide it completely out to be able to get the dishwasher out and don’t know how to turn the gas pipe off. If the error is AE, then there's water underneath. The "why" can be as simple as using the wrong detergent causing an overflow, which can be "fixed" by just using a towel (you can take the kick plate off and dry it out without removing the dishwasher). It can also be far more involved, such as in my case. If it's under warranty, start by calling LG. I had no luck getting help from them but maybe you'll have a different experience. Certainly worth a try before paying for a repair person to come out.

      Check for leaks. Dry it out. And hope you can get by without buying a new one

      @@YoshimoshiGarage followed the instructions from LG and waited 48 hours for the bottom recipient to dry. When I started the unit, the code went away. I checked everything for leaks and cleaned the bottom filter which was awfully dirty, never cleaned and I believe that is why it leaked. Thanks.

    I have such a strong dislike for all of LG products, after experiencing problems with my brand new dishwasher a year after I purchased it. What a piece of crap!!! I will never buy any LG products for as long as I live. Neither will I recommend anyone to buy LG.

    It's bad, dishwashers at all, I had one for Costco, before In 3 years broken down 6 times it's repaired and replacement most of parts but not working probably (water from kitchen sink go inside the dishwasher ) I paid for 3 years extending warranty with Allstate after 2 years manufacturer warranty Allstate refused repair
    Don't buy this brand for every body

    I'm getting this error code but I don't exactly have a leak. I used dawn for a cycle and that was a mistake. I'd think running a cycle would clear out the bubbles in the pipes but it won't let me do anything not even turn off the washer. When I flip the breaker it comes back on in the same error still just draining nothing and beeping.

      Yes, dish soap will push water past the seals and there's still water underneath lifting the sensor float.. Pull the kickplate off and use a towel or paper towels to absorb the water in the catch tray (roughly in the middle) which will let the float drop and the sensor will no longer set the error code.

      @@YoshimoshiGarage This. Knowing where to look for this helped. I have dried out the catch tray and am doing a test run now. One of the arms started flying off during each wash about a month ago and now this. There was a silicone bag that fell below the bottom rack and had a bunch of water in it. I hope that is all it is. I really regret buying this now. My parents had an ancient GE washer that was probably 20 years old, still ran just didn't clean well. This is just over year old, of course , so it is out of warranty and already having problems.
