This is the only Bond movie of my youth that holds up, and it is all because of Diana Rigg. As a 12 year old, I enjoyed the cartoonish nature of Bond movies. Thought this was what sophisticated adult entertainment was like, but looking back, they were ALL pretty corny.

I got goosebumps when they used this music in the promo reel for The Incredibles. I hoped they would have used it in the actual movie, but they didn't.

Agree to disagree. The Soundtrack is indeed epic and one of the best, but the film falls flat. Connery and Dalton were much better as Bond and their films were much better.
@@stevenklein3195 Connery was grounded breaking and established the role, although he clearly wanted to move on. Dalton looked the part and was a talented actor, but the scripts let him down. I thought Lazenby looked the part and gave an acceptable performance. His lack of acting talent though was more than made up for by the supporting cast from Diane Rigg and Telly Savalas through to Ilse Steppat. I thought the story was also good as there was not only all the usual action in then exotic places, largely minus the gadgets, through to the full relationship between Bond and Tracy. And of course the ending. I would still put OHMSS as the best Bond film and Lazenby as the third best behind Connery and Dalton.
I really like this orchestra. They play many of our favourite modern classics but don't mess about with them. They produce a sound very much like that which we all first heard, often at the cinema.
One of the best Bond themes; unfortunately the movie is often overlooked and underrated simply because it starred George Lazenby, who left the series after the single film. Also it skews more towards realism like the Bond novels - 007 is not an indestructible superhero in the film like in so many others. He's very cool-headed and resourceful, to be sure, but also very human. He makes mistakes, he doesn't always know what to do, and at one point in the story is very genuinely afraid for his life. If the film had been made with Connery after "Goldfinger" (which was the original plan) it could have been absolutely stunning.
I was with you up until your Connery comment. As much as I love Connery’s Bond, I don’t think he could have pulled off the emotional, vulnerable side that Lazenby gave it. By the end of Goldfinger he’d already become a superhero. OHMSS is the ‘perfect storm’ of the series for me; The right actor, the right end of the 60s, the location, the casting, the script, Peter Hunt... We’re lucky to have such an oddity in the midst of such a hit and miss series.
Probably the most underrated movie from Bond... And the settings at Portugal and Switzerland are as stunning as the soundtrack... A small homage to Louis Armstrong, also in this soundtrack in his last ever recording 😎👍🏾

I certainly think he did a very competent job in an unenviable situation - but career-wise he was a fool to himself. The film was well up to the mark of other Bond productions, with some really impressive episodes along the way.

Timothy Dalton also did a good job to bring back the darker side of Bond. To show how ruthless he really could be and to show he took friendship seriously. Moore was too campy at time and he held on for one movie too long. Brosnan was a good mix of seriouness and comedy. Craig was more like Dalton in the darkness and true nature of the character. Connery was a mix of all of these, he was ruthless yet had a comical side when appropriate.

He went from being an advertising model (Mr Fry?) to the lynchpin of a great film franchise but somehow managed to screw it up by his antics when he could have carried on and made the role his own. What a shame for him (and us) thinking what he could have done with the role after an impressive (despite the critical bashing) debut in OHMSS.
They had to pay Connery a small fortune to come back and play Bond in Diamonds are Forever. People didn't like the tragic ending of On Her Magistee's Secret Service ended.
George himself came up with that line. When the fight started on the sand but wound up in the water, ice cold water, George said to the director, " Did the other fella have to do this also?" So it was kept in.
I cant tell you how much I love this song. First James Bond song I learnt on the violin and duetting it with my teacher on the piano really ignited a passion for music in me. RIP John Barry, a musical genius.
Easily the best Bondsoundtrack ever composed. OHMSS and The Living Daylights are two of my very favourites. However, I´m always disappointed that when an orchestra plays Bondmusic they always focus on the themes... The themes are rarely the musical highlight of a Bondsoundtrack. It would be cool if there was a bigger focus on some of the rest of music from these genious scores.
Good point. With Barry's Bond scores, many tracks are superb. In fact, one of my favorite themes from OHMSS is "We Have All The Time In The World". The theme is repeated during several scenes between George Lazenby and Tracy, who was played by the unforgettable Diana Rigg. Her character Tracy, was the " heart" of this Bond film, and her performance and John Barry's score elevates this film above all the others in the franchise. And for all the doubters, Lazenby even does s great job considering that the press at the time was going to derail his performance because he wasn't Sean Connery. George turned in an excellent effort regardless.

The Danish National Orchestra is absolutely awesome! The spaghetti western songs they do are off the charts perfection. Merricone and Clint Eastwood would definitely approve.

IMHO this is the most beautiful theme song of any James Bond movie. It also happens to be the theme song for my favorite 007 film. I had a HUGE crush on Diana Rigg when she starred in "The Avengers," and she was absolutely stunning in "OHMSS." I cried my eyes out when she was killed in the end. But my favorite part of the movie was in the beginning when the girl that Bond has just saves runs away from him instead of falling into his arms. George Lazenby breaks theatrical protocol by looking into the camera and then says, "This never happened to the other fellow!"

It was just completing construction when the location scouts found it. In return for filming there the production company decorated the interior and built a helicopter pad. The restaurant was named Piz Gloria after the movie. I'm very envious of you having visited it.

Didn't the Boston Pops Orchestra used to do a lot of movie themes? I know theirs was the only commercially available version of Blade Runner for about 30 years.

@@ayokay123 I had the Bladerunner album and played it so much that by the time I got to see the film again sometime in the late 90s it was weird to hear the electronic music again, Boston Pops had become the "proper" version for me. I still prefer their Love Theme and End Theme.
Loved it and loved the movie. I loved the sequence in the movie that starts Bond's escape from Piz Gloria and ends with Bond and Tracy spending the night in the barn.

My first Bond film, and it affected my view of all the others, before and after. For me it's the best, no question, and the music blew me away even though I was only seven when I saw it.

Lovely performance of a now rarely played track from a film that remains one of the most divisive in the canon (I fall in the 'it's the greatest Bond film of them all' camp) Love that they kept the oriental ting at 2.17 on wards, as many covers do. How many remember it's because scenes from the previous movie 'You only Live Twice' are passing through the credit's 'Bond History' hourglass at that moment I wonder?
They it builds this air of gradure, its service to her majesty and you know your mission, this feels like a soundtrack from a spy game rather than a spy movie. Brilliant performance from all the musicians involved.

The villains mountain-top HQ in this film is now a restaurant. Well worth a visit. Its on Schilthorn, in Switzerland.

Lovely performance of a now rarely played track from a film that remains one of the most divisive in the canon (I fall in the 'it's the greatest Bond film of them all' camp)
Love that they kept the oriental ting at 2.17 on wards, as many covers do. How many remember it's because scenes from the previous movie 'You only Live Twice' are passing through the credit's 'Bond History' hourglass at that moment I wonder?

Absolutely beautiful, brings back memories, as a kid going to the movies with my Brother to see the movie.
They it builds this air of gradure, its service to her majesty and you know your mission, this feels like a soundtrack from a spy game rather than a spy movie. Brilliant performance from all the musicians involved.

@@Robertjim7669 Thank God it was Lazenby instead of Connery in “OHMSS”! In the previous film Connery was bored and dull. In the succeeding film he was twenty pounds overweight, and might have passed for Lazenby’s father!
