- Over the course of a few weeks, I was able to bring this poor little Yamaha R6 back to life after it was left sitting this way wrecked for about 3 years. Thankfully she started right up after some love and care and she is riding awesome now!

Excellent job! I know there was a budget, but I still would of sanding the rust down on the tank, and at least gave it a little bit of paint to keep it from rusting even further. Other than it looks awesome.

Great rebuild! As an R6 owner, I have had mine since new and had a similar rebuild after a wheelie gone wrong. As of this year I'm only at 13k on the miles and it's now an artpiece/show bike after the rebuild. It gets the occasional weekend or ride to work but as an almost 50 year old, nothing gets the blood pumping like riding! Seeing your rebuild just solidifies the need to keep these bikes on the road. Nice work, keep bringing them back to life! My next is another 99 R6 in the red/black scheme.

Thank you for bringing her back to life I remember in 1999 I bought a brand new R6 i wanted blue but didn’t want to wait. So red i got. In the day it was a rocket ship. Fastest bike around. Paid 7800.00 for it memories

Hey Rob - @8:40 I love that tip if the bolt is sticking out far enough... I have at times taken my Dremel and made a little Slit in the bolt to get it out...

I have a 02 I wrecked last year had two do new forks main Frame both rims and tires and fairings but I love the older r6s so I had to rebuild even though it was totaled

I have the same bike, I did the same thing but with more mechanical work. I spent 2 years. Tuning the carb took the longest when you don't have dyno.

I got my 2002 ZX6R in the shop now and it is also carbureted. The carburetor got bad and the tank got bad. It was sitting for almost 10 years.
Those early zx6rs are tanks though, once shes up and running it should last you a long time!

May I ask how you installed the integrated taillights ? I have a 01 and I’m having trouble getting power and where to plug the blue & yellow wires thanks in advance!

Where/ How did u find a kill-switch/push-button start?? I NEED 1 for my R6, & the part's been discontinued.
This bike is notorious for cracked cylinder liners.
To check, let it warm up over 90°C. Most of the time when the engine stalls, its because to much exhaust gases in the crankcase due to the cracked liners.
If it stalls restart it and open the oil fill, it should then continue running.
Also when it is warm it will start poorly because of exhaust gases in the airbox.
Edit: and also check the timing chain tensioner. The First Revision failed very often. Mine did also, got a bent valve.
The second revision did not. Get one from a 2001 r6, the shaft is a little bit thicker on it .
