  • This video is my attempt to document "Living with Chesapeakes" in everyday life and to feed my interest in videography and editing. I have two Chesapeake Bay Retrievers; Moose 2 yr. 7 mo. old & Katie 1 yr. 3 mo. old. These two are my first experience with Chessies. Making this video was a blast.

    the neighbors at my parent's place have a chessie. He is a big oaf. I go fishing on the river and he loves to chase my lines when the weights hit the water... I go waterfowl hunting... he is nowhere to be found haha. Last winter the river was freezing up and a lot of ice floes were coming down stream, kinda gave the appearance that the river was frozen over to a dog I guess. I am not sure how long he was in there, but I went outside to leave and slammed my car door. All the sudden I heard this death wail down by the river. I knew something was wrong and ran down there immediately and sure enough the dude was stuck in the ice floes just barely alive. I ran down and crawled out there and pulled him out of that river. I told him now that I helped him out, he has to leave me alone when I am fishing and I haven't seen him since LOL! He is a good boy though! Just loves the water and chasing things that fall into it. I think any other breed would have died in that frozen river that day.

    I love the Chezzy but very hard to find in England, they are almost always working dogs and I don’t own a country estate unfortunately.
    I’m thinking Gordon setter, English setter, flat coat retriever or Cbr.

    How do you prevent aggression and guarding in this breed

    • @ChesapeakeBayProductions
      @ChesapeakeBayProductions  3 года назад +1

      I do not know the answer to your question. Moose, who is not neutered, has shown some aggression to other large dogs while on a leash. I just gave him and the other dog some time close up (still on leash thou) to sort it out and smell each other. After that small amount of time all was good and leashes off.

      @@ChesapeakeBayProductions would he or chesapeakes in general go after another dog, aggressively or otherwise to go and see them. Also judging by that, would a female be a better Chesapeake for a first time chessie owner, or if I were to get a male at what age should it be neutered to prevent aggression

    • @ChesapeakeBayProductions
      @ChesapeakeBayProductions  3 года назад +2

      @@LincolnTheLabrador I can only speak for the two pups I have. Mine are not "aggressive". They do tend to want to meet all other dogs and after they have meet, they are great.
      I would recommend searching the internet for a CBR forum and read, post questions and interact with members. You should get alot of information there. Male/Female....it all really boils down to the raising of the dog IMO. Good Luck. You won't go wrong with a CBR.
