Interestingly, if look at the segment-by-segment ratings breakdown for the January 4, 1999 Raw and Nitro, you’ll see that a lot of people flipped over to watch Foley win the title. But you’ll also see that most of them flipped back over to catch the last couple minutes of Nitro only to see the nWo re-establish the status quo that viewers were already sick of.
i appreciate the video. i understand you can only cover so much. you left out a major factor in wcw's downfall. while wwf was forced to cultivate and push younger talent and turning them into superstars. wcw had a boat load of untapped talent who they let languish due to theirover reliance on older established veterans. imagine if they actually gave rey mysterio, benoit, eddie guerrero, and chris jericho a significant push. what could have happened?
David Arquette didnt want the belt...he told eric and management no more than once, because he knew what that belt ment to the wrestlers..he actually respected the buisness because he loved wrestling..but management still went and did it...and they basically trashed his career by doing it
Arquette's acting career had been on the downturn for years before Ready To Rumble. The only role I know him for previous was as Dewey on Scream, which was mocked in the film Scary Movie. It really is a case of Arquette himself wasn't a big enough deal for it to HELP WCW in the ratings war to begin with. The general reaction to the move was that Dewey from Scream won the WCW World Title, regardless of how else it is played off or represented. That way MY reaction to him winning the World title. I'm sure that's how many others interpreted that as well. And Dewey from Scream as World Champion is NOT a good look on ANY promotion. It would be the same as if Matthew Broderick had won the WWF Title in a similar stunt. Peoples' reaction would be... Ferris Bueller won the WWF Championship?!?!?
Everyone says WCW failed because Vince Russo had no McMahon to filter the bad ideas ... lets not forget Vince okayed the terrible Terri Runnels miscarriage storyline
It was more so for WCW showing the Main Event of Halloween Havoc 1998 Goldberg vs. DDP for the World title at the beginning of the 2nd hour of Nitro, which originally took place the night before. While the Halloween Havoc match got a 7.2 quarter hour rating, DDP vs. Bret got a 4.3 quarter hour rating. The last time a Nitro match beat a RAW match was on March 15th 1999, with the overrun of the Hogan & Nash vs. Goldberg & Flair match.
Time Warner’s Hatred of Wrestling reminds me of the UK’s BBC’s secret Hatred of Doctor Who & anything Science Fiction & Fantasy related or anything that requires the BBC to spend money or left a finger beyond their usual bland & boring Costume Period/Dramas and Lifestyle programming
I honestly think WCW might still be around today if they never decided to directly compete with WWE by putting Nitro on Monday's. Both promotions could have co-existed if they just stayed on separate nights and fans could have just watched both instead of having to decide.
I watched WWF as a kid, and then when most of the big names jumped ship to WCW, I watched WCW... I never did realize Jake the Snake jumped over to WCW.. his tenure at WCW must have been short lived. I don't remember seeing one match of his over there... that mustve been when his drinking and drug use really spiraled out of control. I just remember when Hogan turned heel and the WCW gained a huge wave of momentum, they were totally kicking WWFs ass in ratings, good wrestlers and good storylines. That sure didnt last long though
Anyway late 80s wrestler had their fun in wcw.. but im still ok with vince decision to leave the golden era stars.. he gave away to new generation era stars push.. same reason why many young talents left wcw and join wwe.later.. what Eric did is great and smarter job for shorter term.. but it will backfire many ways.. wont work for long term.. too much emotional moves, putting more actions and title matches in weekly show easily devalued their ppv concepts. and contract and payment for those wrestlers like they are invincible in wcw.
I feel more educated when you give a history lesson King Dave and you shouted me out! You the man King Dave! ❤🍻
I never saw Mick Foley win The Title until 2020. They got me,with that main event. The one time I didn't watch RAW live and The Nitro replay.
Great finish to the triilogy, and always good to see shawn called out for not drawing as champion
( That’s crazy ) Turner really don’t want WCW then why he finesse it in the 1st place!
Thank For The Rise and Fall Video 🥰👍😁💗

Yea it's like people wanted WCW to be good again, but they just wouldn't allow it to happen
@@DaveKnowsWrestling Kinda like how everyone’s back to feeling that way about WWE.
Great video ❤
Nice and gud story I like your voice u didn't disgusted it like the others they start well then u hear thier native jubb thank u kept your voice
What?
Been waiting for this video.
I hope you do a video on the invasion angle. The storyline was good, but it wasn't the feud that fans dreamed of
Please do the history of the LWO, would be really cool since Rey Mysterio just brought it back and it's a hot stable right now.
Latino World Order -Eddie & Chavo Guerrero ,Rey Mysterio,Konan?,
I'm Latino and I thought it was a disgrace how quick they dropped their colors to Flair.

@ 2:20 the look on Lex Luger's face says "that should be me"

If he really didn't want it he didn't have to go thru with it. I will never understand the people who need to defend everything online
@@DaveKnowsWrestling there's a difference between telling the truth and defending people....He just spoke the truth.
@@DaveKnowsWrestling watch the You Cannot Kill David Arquette documentary from 2020
First, how do you know it's the truth, it's just what he said. Second, again, did they put a gun to his head. No one MADE him win the WCW title.

Odd question, what was the point of working the guys in the back? Especially, with Flair two heart attacks.
It's what the scorpion said to the frog
DDP vs. HART the last time Nitro beat RAW?! Excellent! What a match-up! Two great workers.

So, Thunder wasn't created as a direct response to Smackdown? They both aired on Thursdays. They were both blue.
@@DaveKnowsWrestling Which was surprising. I remember it being the other way around. Damn Mandela effect.
Lol right! I forgot Thunder was on for a year before Smackdown was created
@@billblaski9523 Next I'm going to find out that Booker T actually did the Bookend before The Rock did The Rock Bottom

Going against them gave WCW their greatest success too. They wouldn't have been worth anything if they never tries
