Joe, I was born in 1950 so I am a true baby boomer. What I remember most about our Christmas trees was how wonderful they smelled-especially when those hot light bulbs warmed up the foliage. My mother always unplugged them before we went to bed at night for safety. Thank you for the memory.

I’m a boomer and do still decorate with a lot of vintage items. I’m very blessed to have my parent’s Shiny Brite ornaments in their boxes and the first angel tree topper they bought in 1950-the year they were married. They are priceless to me. Your tree is spot on. I’m so happy to see how you brought our past back to life. How very dear and precious are those memories.
Everything about the season was so special-getting stacks of Christmas cards in the mail, making jam cakes and fruitcakes, shaking the packages with the DO NOT OPEN seals and yes…watching the bubble lights and tinsel make the entire living room sparkle. Makes my heart so full…thanks!!!

Yep! That was the Christmas tree back in the day. My family never had the bubble lights but we had balls of all colors and sizes and TONS of tinsel - the good kind that they stopped selling because it contained lead. We saved as much tinsel as we could each year and we stopped putting tinsel on the tree once we no longer had enough remaining to make a statement. Remember how the weight of the old kind made it hang straight down and really shimmer?

Oh the memories! The bubble lights-the big C-9's and shiny bright ornaments were always on our tree and the best part was throwing the tinsel on the tree for the big finish! This year I have a photo on my tree of my parents standing in front of their tree that looks very similar to yours! Those trees were magical!

I loved your nostalgia tree. I was born in the 50s and l remember how all the trees were the same colored glass balls, some Shiny Brites , and if you were really lucky some bubble lights . The train under the tree along with cardboard houses . We would watch ( probably for hours ) that train go round and round … just a train on the tracks 😅
    Thanks for the memories 💚❤️💚

Absolutely beautiful. My dad and brother cut our tree from the woods. Usually a cedar or a white pine. I do remember a long leafed white pine one year. My mom took the little seed pods from our sycamore trees and covered in aluminum foil to hand on the tree one year. We had the C-bulbs and glass ornaments. We would add paper chains sometimes. I remember having some Santa ornaments. We cover it in tensile. We used what they called vintage paper now. Sometimes we used the gold or red foil paper to wrap gifts too.

I got tears in my eyes when I saw this tree… I actually do a traditional 1950s tree every other year and switch off from my flocked Christmas tree. I use the bubble lights the big bulbs the tinsel the star on top. This just opened the floodgates of my memories. Thank you so much. I laughed out loud for real when you said you could hear your mother saying one piece at a time because my mother used to say it too lol. there’s nothing that gives you the warm, fuzzy feeling then a tree of this kind. Thanks Joe!

I'm a late boomer/early gen x, so I was raised with a lot of baby boomer traditions, including the Christmas trees at my grandparents' houses. My parents had the silver aluminum tree, so it was symmetrical, but all the same ornaments. I still have that tree. I also have the first ornaments that my maternal grandmother bought in 1940 and used every year until the last Christmas before she passed away. I want to use them, but they're so beautiful and fragile, I'm afraid to. They're such a family treasure and I would be devastated if a cat decided to cop an attitude and smack them. I love all my fur babies dearly, but they sure do limit my decor options lol
Thank you so much for the wonderful memories! Since I don't have any grandparents or parents remaining here on earth, memories are more precious than ever!

My Dad always brought home a very fat and tall tree. Every year my Mom would say "it's too big, it's not going to fit!" lol! I LOVED the bubble lights. Your tree is so prefect, it's right out of the 50's and 60's. I want to do one like it next year. I love how you did the red lights first for the extra glow. My Mom made lots of the sequin ornaments in the 60's and we had a tree topper like the one you have. We always had lots of tinsel, till we got a cat who would eat it every year. 🙀 I love your horse and your blanket. It's great that you have these things from your childhood. Wonderful! Such memories! My mother loved turquoise so we always had the big blue lights, except for one that was house-shaped. Baubles galore, but no tinsel. :( I still use blue lights on our tree! We have bubble lights, too - in blue, of course. And when my son was born 37 years ago, my sister gave us several strings of the C9 lights in blue for the outside of our house. We still use those strings today - we have to routinely replace bulbs, but the strings themselves have lasted all these years. Fabulous, Joe! Hi to MaryAnn!

That's our Christmas tree this year. I have accumulated a collection of Shiny Brite ornaments and did a whole tree of them.

So Nostalgic 😊 My Grams had this tree every year! I took pictures of it! I might do this next year with my bedroom tree. I have the classic gold star with tinsel and lights from the 70’s I could use as a topper because my apartment ceilings are low but oh the 2024 ideas already😂. Merry Christmas to you both Ciao Bella!

I'm not a boomer kid, but my parents were, so they had a lot of this stuff. Grandparents aunt and uncles did too. Then the things from when I was little in the seventies came along, which was the decade of everything dangerous and hazardous😂
My goodness, those C9 bulbs! I remember in Queens as a kid, we had to hang them on the railings closest to the house only because people would pass by and unscrew and steal them! Then all the arguing about NEVER putting them on the tree, especially if it were a real one, because they would get too hot and could cause a fire. Gosh. Do you remember the string of lights with the little outter plastic cup that made them look like little flowers? Then the thumb tacks. Holy Toledo! My father was the accountant and would be sure of how many my mother planned to use to hang the lights in the window. We had wall to wall carpeting so if one, or heaven forbid two were to fall, he would jump up and tell us all to freeze in our tracks until they were located. Then he would regale us with the story of how his grandfather stepped on one, developed gangrene, and of course amputation was the result. Ahh, the memories😅
The only tinsel allowed in our house were these cute little tinsel balls my mother bought in the City. They could be used year after year and you could just throw them anywhere on the tree and they would stick. They came in green, red, silver, and gold. Leave it to my mom to find a neat, cool, and original way to decorate with tinsel😂😂 I think the only time we ever touched traditional tinsel was when our dad brought a box home. Our mom went bananas. We were covered in it😂😂 the tree wasn't even up yet!!😅 Thanks for the memories once again, Joe😊 You know I love you guys for all of this and more❤❤ Xoxoxoxo
