- OBSCURIST TOURIST 037 - A few years ago, I finally found a 1950s-era Silver Aluminum Christmas tree. I bought it in the summer of 2017 with the idea to use it that Christmas, but I also ended up getting some cats a little while after that and never quite trusted them with this vintage beauty. Because of that, I’d never actually taken the tree out of the box - until today!
Like everyone, the pandemic has left me stuck at home. And, if there’s a silver (pardon the pun) lining to this situation, it’s that I’m able to keep an eye on my cats and put the tree up. Never assembled a Christmas tree before, so it was a little more of an adventure than it should have been. Enjoy!

I remember the alumni trees and color wheels. I could watch them till the bowl I smoked wore off lol. thanks for the most needed chuckle
A perfect form of entertainment for every stoner, indeed. 😂
I had forgotten about the paper sleeves that held individual branches to protect them!
Love this guy. He has that unassuming, unaffected cordiality that keeps viewers interested.
Awwww. My favorite comment. Thanks Sandy. 🤗❤️
“Because it will be very inattentive.” 🤔😂 I’ll keep that in mind! I just bought a 1950’s vintage aluminum Christmas tree!
I grew up with one of these trees. In fact I was 9 years old and picked it out in the hardware store back in 1960. My mother and I loved that tree for years until it began to show signs of wear and tear. I've been looking for one but they're impossible to find.
I know! I had been looking for one for years and happened to stumble across this one on a second-hand website. They are definitely getting rarer and rarer to find - and finding one in good condition is nearly impossible now. Sadly.
I just got a four foot Evergleam aluminum tree yesterday!❤
Nice video, but aluminum Christmas trees were not from the 1950s. They were introduced in 1959, and were only used for a few weeks before that decade ended. It took a couple of years for them to catch on and they peaked in the mid 1960s, although some folks still used them until the early ‘70s.
Thanks! This particular Christmas tree in the video is from 1959, but you’re right … they didn’t really get popular until the 1960s. Love then, though! 🤗
That's partly due to lead problems being brought up by the FDA in '72.
Wow! This is the coolest video. My parents had this tree. Thank you.
It was the "Thing" in the 1960's to have one!
I want one of these trees.
I have one for sale with a color wheel. 4406664737
Very cool video. Thanks again for sharing. You can add rum to egg nog for some kick.
Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas Arron!
Hi! I have this same tree, and unfortunately it got knocked over and the wooden dowel trunk cracked at the connection, leaving a small bit in each end of the trunk.. I think it is fixable, but cant't tell if the dowel comes down from top of tree into the bottom hole or other way around. Could you post a picture of the two pieces of the trunk? Fun video BTW.
Hi! Can’t post a photo here, but just looked at it and the dowel is coming up from the bottom - meaning the one with the dowel is the bottom pole. Hope that helps! You can also tell by the way the branch inserts are slanted.
@@ObscuristTourist Thank you! I had it fixed by a local furniture repair guy.All set for next year!
Egg nog is better if you make it. My father made it every year.
🎅🏼 🤶🏻 🎁💞🛒🛍🙏🏻🌲 🙆🏻♀️🙆🏻♀️🙆🏻♀️ Where can I find affordable Aluminum Christmas Tree?
These are getting very difficult to find. Your best option is to search used forums (Craigslist, FB marketplace, etc.).
Lead, unfortunately. 🤢
Aluminum, fortunately. ☺️
