Have to smile at how easily they were able to set up the real Christmas tree. As a child of the 50s I remember my father cursing as he tried to get the ****** thing to stand up in the bucket. Then you start to decorate and the tree falls over and smashes ornaments. Fortunately, a lot of our ornaments were from the war years and therefore not made of glass but of wood painted with glitter so that wasn't a real big problem. Eventually it got firmly in place with fishing line holding it up while the other end was tacked to the nearby wall. Such good memories. Happy Christmas everyone and I pray for a safer and healthier 2022 for all.
Amei seu relato 😄😄 feliz Natal 🎅☃🎄
😂 Great story.
Позвольте сказать вам предсказания православных святых: в ближайшие годы восстановится Российская империя (думаю, что в границах СССР), а США и Турция погибнут.
Your dad cursing 😸😸
aww as a child of the 2000’s we also have the same problem haha
I must say that the videos from the 1920's are the ones that I love to watch, however when it's comes to putting in place the many things that we associate with Christmas the 1940s really embraces this the most.
That's because every thing we know to be true was socially engineered after WW2.
@@bryanfarts822 I could talk about this for hours. Really good point.
@@avadawn3218 I wish you could talk about it for hours because I would be really be interested in knowing what you're talking about. It sounds fascinating
Many boyfriends, husband and fathers would probably have gotten leave around Christmas if they were lucky and spent the day with their families and sweethearts, so they would have done everything they possibly could to get thr most out of the occasion. To then have to ship back into Hell leaving all that behind must have been horrendously awful
It's not over until the beautiful lady says "that's all". Merry Christmas to all.
I bet they lived on a nice street too with all the homes decorated with outside Christmas lights. In the 80’s, my dad would take us on drives to see all the colorful lights. We lived in NJ so it was always so cold 🥶 and snowy out which made it perfect . ❄️🤍❄️🤍
❄☃🎄❤
I hate snow. It’s cold, wet, and it gets everywhere.
@@HunterDriguez if you live in a place that gets a lot of snow, I can understand that. I live in Florida. ☀️🌴🏄♀️
Anyone else remember making "popcorn garland" at home the night the tree was decorated? Or how about cutting wide strips of different colored construction paper, wrapping them around and gluing them together for garland... that we used to do in school, usually during grade school art class. I haven’t thought about those things in years. Thanks for jarring my memories!
Omg i did that garland thing and im a 91er ! :)
My parents era. I can almost hear Doris, Bing and Frank singing on the old 78s.
In my family it was pretty much like this still in the 70s.
I’ve seen comments in other videos where people say they get sad when they hear the “that’s all” but this one really made my heart hurt. Since my parents haven’t been here, Christmas is different. But That’s how we used to do the tree…
Sorry to hear that.I'm 52 and although my mother is still here(father died 2012) she's aging quickly now...I feel like an alien in this modern times culturally.Still I am blessed and have taken to more praying to who/whatever is out there. It helps.Good luck making your way!
@@bootlegapples I’m 29 and I lost both parents within a few years back in 2013 and 2016 suddenly. The more times become modern the more I isolate myself and miss having them to come home too. You’re very lucky to have your mom with you. Sometimes I watch RUclips videos of other peoples home videos and it makes me feel included. Stay well and give your mother all the love in your heart and God all of your prayers. Thanks 💜
@@Joi_Robb Yw and ty for the well-wishing...Sorry if too personal, not to pigeon hole you either, but you have a sadness about you,I would like to say a prayer for you.Even if it ends up only in my mind I hope it makes you feel more connected in some way.I know I'm overwhelmed when too much goes on around me(clinically diagnosed ADD) especially if I feel more alone without people to relate to (like lost family or friends). Myself I'm not simple or consistent so I find simpler times/stability appealing.I suspect it's the same for you(?)I think it's about more a sense of connection and belonging, about order in the chaos.(I got plenty of that lol)My ex was Vietnamese and I learned that they dealt with loss better than us Americans do because they have a more connected community. When her aunt lost her husband she was surrounded by community so she did not feel so alone. They always have some gathering going on at each other's home so again they're not alone after the loss.Anyhow, good luck again, may you find such situation for yourself! You most definitely can be happy even if feeling blue now!
I pray things get better for you, Joi Robb!
@@Joi_Robb i am 35 and lost my mom a year ago , tomorrow is Christmas in my country and I feel so empty without her 💜
How beautifully normal and simple life looks. I never imagined I'd envy the 1940s.
A bucket with some rocks to brace the tree.
And these types of or ornamentation, we used in the 50’s and 60’s also.
Still have some for nostalgia.
Everyone back then looked so shiny and wholesome. I wonder what happened?
Change of diet (affecting health), change of pace (affecting happiness). Now we're closer to being working robots than being happy people.
@@practicalpen1990
Your absolutely right, sigh...
Lol, this is an ad/short movie. Do you expect them to show you ordinary looking people in their pajamas with imperfect hair and not great teeth? Look at current commercials on your tv. They always cast good looking people, so you can look up to them and want their lives (and stuff they are selling) :) That's how tv works (and how always has been working, even in the 40s).
@@slouberiee - I look through my family's albums of older photos from the late 40's and 50's, and almost everyone looked neat and pleasant like in this video.
@@user-uc3ld1zj3g Zyana is right about diet etc. Also people cared about their appearance more. They wouldn't be caught going anywhere in their pajamas....unless their house was on fire.
These clips make me pine for a time before I even was a thought
Family has a photo of my mum when she was aged about 11 or 12 and her hair looks exactly the same as the blonde girl with the ribbon decorating the tree, she was even wearing a dress with the same sleeves, only it was a pretty lemon colour. The year was 1946/47
I wish I could go back to those times even for one day!
I'll join you!!! 💖

Is that reusable tinsel? Wow, what a concept. To buy something and continue using it throughout the years.
Yes, it is still the case in many homes in Poland
@@MrsMagdalenaKamila I wish more people did that here in the US. Everyone is so wasteful here.😥
@@earthhippie wait - you don't reuse tinsel in the USA? 🤯 or am I missing the /s?
@@rhonafox3805 No, not usually. The tinsel is normally made of a very thin plastic. I haven't come across any that hold up for long. I just don't use any at all.
You buy new tinsel every year??
Have you seen how thick it is these days?! YEARS of use! Lol
Think I’ve had mine about 8-9 years now haha
This is before my time, but not so much, so I recognize those decorations. Especially the tinsel. “Hang it one strand at a time, don’t throw it on in clumps!” my mother reminded us every year.
My grandma passed this thanksgiving and this reminded me of the tree’s at her house every Christmas. She did that tinsel decoration too. Miss her so much. Thanks for the video
I doubt we shall look back on the early 2020s with much affection.
We might, if things get worse. I'm praying that we've hit bottom and will turn things around. A wise person I know says, "Good times create weak men, weak men create bad times. Bad times create strong men, and strong men create good times." It's a cycle.
Greatest generation even made the greatest Christmas tee!! Amazing.
Merry early christmas !! 💖

Simple as well beautiful
I love these videos
I remember, as a child in the 90s, Xmas decorations being artisanal and made of glass. Now everything is plastic, and not even a plastic that will last a lifetime, but one you'll discard and keep polluting. Trees are plastic too. It's a shame that potted live trees are difficult to find. This year I made my own tree with recycled pallets and pine cones.
It's a shame to kill trees for holliday, especially considering that fur trees grow slowly, only 3-10 cm a year. If you don't like plastic trees, find other ways to decorate that is not destructive to nature.
We use real trees, they are grown on plantations. No harm for the nature. Also we use glass ornaments. Who would use plastic ones, if you can buy plenty of locally made beautiful glass ones? Merry Christmas from Czechia!
@@slouberiee Yes. We lived near a bunch of tree farms. Every year they plant trees to replace the ones that will be cut. Some of the farms have been there over 75 years or more.
man. where did you find this? nice job as usual.
Very nostalgic.

Real lead tinsel! I remember real lead tinsel; it looked and behaved so much better that the mylar we use now.
We always had tinsel on our tree and I continue with tinsel on my tree todsy. While it's not seen much these days anymore I still prefer it because it's just magical to me!

We always hammered 2 pieces of wood criss cross at bottom of tree 🎄.
Everything was so innocent and happy and appreciative, now it bring it in such a chore , swearing and fighting , and ppl take it down the night of Christmas , love this video

If u had parents born in the late 1920s to early 30s this would bring tears to your eyes. How I wished they had had wonderful Christmases through the Depression and war years, but it wasn’t always so. Yet they made the best Christmases for their children and grandchildren. ❤️
I loved watching this story and thought about my parents born into this era
Thank you for sharing.
Thank You😊
Production blunders are so silly sometimes. The tree is brought in and we watch it immediately getting decorated with glass ornaments and tinsel but never see lights going on it. However at the very end the family is seen admiring their newly decorated tree and lights all of a sudden are on.
I just found this wonderful channel:)
Still have some of the decorations and garlands and such.
Merry Christmas everyone! God bless this world! ⭐💚❤⭐
Wonderful
Great video l remember the 1950 s christmas so much better than today
Happy holidays 2021
My grandmother gave me some blue tinsel like that. She got it in the 40s.
The world was so much simpler pre internet....smart phones....video cameras on every human/street/room. Everyone is in such a state of FASTER and disposable that nothing and I mean NOTHING holds any value anymore. Nothing and no one is worth sitting still and giving your full attention to for more than 30 secs.
Life is what you make it to be. Ever thought of moving to the countryside/to different state/leaving social media? I'm only on FB and YB and am absolutely okay :)
very nice
I miss those old metal icicles that stayed hanging straight down. Now they make them out of plastic and the faintest puff of air sends them snarling around the branches, The old ones contained lead, so there was good reason to discontinue them, but surely they could use some other kind of metal?
I have a feeling RUclips viewers are starting to experience saturation and less interest for historic restored & colorized videos due to too many people now getting involved in this hobby... :-( Do you share that feeling?
Merry Christmas,
had to go with the tinsel, no electric lights yet-
It was a common practice to decorate a tree with burning candles.
Lite the fire, play xmas music, put up the tree, decorate, bake cookies, have family, friends over for a drink, enjoy some good food. Everything with out phones, computers, just each other's company. I remember that growing up, I loved it.
Now? People look at you like you asked them for a vital organ if you mention such craziness. 😕
This is just how it was.
this video hurts :/... thanks for share
nice
Would you like to make a tutorial video for examplar based AI colorization? Thanks.
Real trees are fantastic but my Mother used to complain about the pine needles falling off.
A magic time
I wonder if the adults in this film were complaining about wanting to go back to “the good ole days”, when Christmas was simple and not so commercialized, just like every generation after them has said?
I know... Christmas has been commercialized since the 19th century. Commercialism is, ironically, part of our Christmas tradition.
Betty White lived this.
She was 26 years old.
🌠😍😍👌🎄hermoso
Que coisa mais linda 😍😍😍🎅🎅
Even for Non-Christians like me, Christmas is a special moment for everybody. Irrespective of our creeds, we feel Something Great which trancends our awareness during this season. And we pray for those who could not enjoy a peaceful Christmas season in the world.
Well said, sir. My grandfather was Jewish, and he LOVED Christmas, even though he wasn't Christian and didn't grow up with it. He loved the decorations, the music, the joy, but mostly how everyone was so kind and charitable during this time of year.
