I'm a big fan :) just saying..can I ask. Yourself and most arc utubers constantly fear getting lost BUT if you have the route on your watch which is pretty closely spaced and runs along the particular paths why should you, we, worry about getting lost. Are people over orrying Elana or are the gox routes were to be given before the race just don't work in reality? I'd love to be in a position to do recces but I ain't :( so love your videos to date :)
Really good point! For the record, the gpx file that Colin Bathe puts together for Arc is incredible. He puts so much time and care into meticulously checking it all each year. Sometimes my watch is a little slow to catch up with where I am, which can lead to heading down the wrong path initially but on the whole, I’d say you’re unlikely to get lost. For me it’s more about saving time and mental energy. Even with signs (that aren’t always easy to spot) and the gpx, there are bits where you need to stop and check, which of course takes a little time 😊Plenty of people who come and do the race have never done any of the route and they’re absolutely fine, and get to enjoy it all as a fresh route 😀Just a bonus for me I think 😊Happy training!
@merkyw4187, I'll add to Elena's comments. Simplistically you keep the sea on the left. But....realistically, the coast path braids, forks and there are little turns you can miss. All of which cost you time (bearing in mind you can be running for up to 21 hours in the dark if you take the full 36 hours there is a lot that can go wrong navigation wise - but the GPX will make it a lot easier). Unfortunately, watches can be either slow to respond or don't give enough of a fix (if the weather does a 2016 again your watch may not even be visible under the layers - but then you will have other problems to contend with). Trenow is a classic for this with runners continuing down onto the beach and following the bottom of the cliff before eventually realising the coast path is just above them on the top of the cliff. This can cost you a good 30 mins if you end up battling to get round the rocks at the end of the beach before realising your mistake and turning back - which if you are chasing cutoffs could be a deal breaker. Judging on the number of runners who go wrong at this point, watches just do not tend to pick up the little turning in the hedge before the ramp to the beach (and it is really easy to miss the little coast path arrow and acorn in the dark). I'll also add I know the route as well as anyone (live here and used to work on this section of coast path) and I've still made minor nav errors on both my Arcs. In the dark it really is that easy. Colin's gpxs are superb though, but don't just rely on what your watch thinks it is telling you. Good luck and enjoy.
The GPX file is under the routes section in the Arc of Attrition event details on Mudcrew's website. There's a version on there now and Colin may add an updated version closer to the race. :) @@CotswoldTrailRunner
My gopro battery conked out mid-run recently. I'm hoping to get a new one for Christmas! :) Good luck with the training for the Arc. I've recently done my first road half marathon, and now I'm training for a trail ultra. Better get those trail legs working properly again 😁😁
Nice to see you posting again. Please, please, please keep posting - your videos are so natural and inspiring and entertaining and informative and lovely to watch.
I’m trying to absorb as much Arc info as possible and this is a great help! My first time in 2024 and like the Lakeland100 this year, suitably nervous!
A great watch, live in Cornwall walked all of it and some many times, ran a few sections, no idea how runners manage with wet cold feet for such a long in the winter, I hope to support runners from my little camper-van over the weekend of the ARC
I’m getting stuck into your recce videos, really helpful prep for the race! Though I am heading down later this week for my first recce, the weather is looking “interesting” 💨 🌧️ 😂
Great film Elena. I'm down for Arc100 but I've been really sick in the last couple of months and training has suffered badly. Curious as to what time you did in the end. I have about 2hr20 in mind but maybe that's too slow?
Thanks for watching 😊Shame you’ve been poorly, hope you’re feeling yourself again soon! I did it in 2hr33 in Jan and then about 2hr40 for that recce. I suppose it depends on how you like to approach it and what time you’re aiming for overall. I’m very much a start slow kind of person so I wasn’t worried about taking my time. 😊Hope to see you out there 😀
Ah great, thanks. Based on your time last year, you are a fair bit quicker than me, I will be 'hero hour' material, so I will definitely revise my time to be more 2.40 ish. I'm looking to get to Porthleven in about 6.15-6.20. I've not run the Coverak-Lizard section though, or been any further than Zennor. 🤦♂😁

Where can we find Colin’s gpx file nearer the time?

Thanks so much for watching and for the encouragement 😊I have every intention to keep making them, I’ve even treated myself to some more camera kit 😊
Nice to see you again m'am. Your unselfconscious persona and good editing makes your stuff a must watch when most similar stuff is a can't watch.
Thanks very much 😊glad you enjoyed it!
Best wishes to you with your training. Here's to a great 2024.
Thank you! And you too 😀
