  • Here is some video footage of my first recce of the Arc of Attrition 100-mile ultra marathon on the Cornish Coast Path (South West Coast Path). I'm aiming to recce the whole route over the next few months to reduce navigation and place name pronunciation errors on the day 😊 I've not done this race before so it's not intended to be a proper guide, more of an insight into my own experience and thoughts about it.
I'd love to read about your tips and experiences in the comments!

Beautiful day for a recce run and great idea to video it, will be great to rewatch them all to refresh yourself prior to race day 🤩

Yeah it really was. And re-watching is exactly my plan, although I wonder how different everything will look in the winter 🥶

Hi Elena. Hope you are well. Another great video. Scenery was stunning and I was impressed that you navigated it with so many choices of likely looking footpaths. I will follow this recce series and then go back to your race report to see how you got on. Best wishes.

Thanks for sticking around for another one! Yes, considering the signposting it's surprisingly easy to go wrong on the coast path, I think. Beautiful route though!!

Thanks for sharing. I'm in for Arc100 but I'm having a serious wobble. I just DNF'd the North Coast 110km and my 57 yr old body complains a lot these days. I have the rest of this week to defer or not! decisions!

Sorry to read that Ian, wobbles can be tough on the mind set. I DNS’d the North Coast 110K so you made it further than I did! Yes, decisions! Happy training whether it’s for 23 or 24! Let us know what you decide! And thanks for watching 😊

Many thanks. Enjoyable. But this is going to be tough in the winter and much of it in the dark! Good luck. Keep em coming.

Arc GPX producer here. You went the correct way at Coverack at the very start. The route diverts from the coast path for a short distance at Coverack as there are a couple of choke points on the SWCP which holds everyone up right at the start.
Your point to check at 6:46 in the video is actually a mistake on the GPX. Before the sign was there, it wasn't clear which way the route went and I chose wrong. Now there is a sign, which is new, we now have a defined route. On race day, go either way, there is hardly any advantage either way. Sorry for the confusion.
    Colin

Hi Colin, I’m honoured that you’ve watched the video 😀Thank you so much for all of the work you put in to recording the route and preparing all of the route and timing info for us all! The GPX has been incredibly useful. Until preparing for the Arc I had no idea that the coast path changed so frequently, for good reason I’m sure. Huge thanks again, you really go above and beyond! Hope to get to meet you over the weekend!

Nice scenery there. I've put up a fell running comedy on RUclips if you would care to check it out. Best wishes to you and good luck with your channel, from north Lancashire.
