I think Desert Ironwood is the best wood for knife handles. It is dense and hard, and no prone to shrinking. And it is very beautiful and is not boring. Thanks.
I already left my Trailguide unfortunately. Its grind is superb and its edge is super sharp. The cutlet was cooked as you say. It was fried twice to make its surface crisp. Thanks.
Dear Dr. Wako San, I watch your videos on a daily basis. I do very enjoy your analyses, but most I like when you are having a meal with your family. You have a very interesting style of cooking; I like your meal very much! How good your english is! I am sure, you cant wait for the next hunting season, can you?
It's 1:30am, and I had to see your fantastic meal. I need to make a midnight raid on the refrigerator now. Thanks for sharing your knife experience and allowing us into your home. It's always a pleasure!
I have decided to get 270 and 308 at the same time, 270 for long range shooting on the pasture, and 308 in case I need to shoot a bear in the forest. The short action of 308 is light and well suited to carry around in the forest. I will have them near the end of this coming season. So I will have few chances to use them this season. Thanks.
As I Have understood it: 3V has lager angle: Makes it troublesome for the art of Bushcraft, but great for Hunting. A2 Has smaller angle: A geometry that fits Bushcraft. 3V: Harder steel; and to get sharp, but stays sharp long. A2: Softer steel, easy to sharpen, easy dulling. Why don't put a A2 Angle on a 3V knife? Will there be problems in microchipping or such, because 3V is harder - and with lesser angle, lesser material to support the edge?
I ordered Winchester M70 Featherweight 270 for pasture and 308 for woods. Deer most often stand 300 yards away on pasture, and I can meet with a brown bear in woods. These are the reasons for the two calibers. My rifle permit will come in March next year. So I will have few chances to use them this coming season. Thanks.
Yes. It is hard work for me as well to thin down the 3V. A2 holds enough for a day hike or hunt. So A2 is okay for me too. Chip restoration of 3V is nightmare. BRKT can assume it and increase the edge angle for us and for their warranty repair as well. Thanks.
Ease of split, is determined by the number of knots in the log piece at hand. The number of knots and the way they have grown. More knots, the harder it gets. Your birch samples hav very few knots, therefor they are easier to split. To make such a comparison, the number and order of the knots need to be as similar as possible, from log to log. In order to get a kind of close performance comparison. Thanks for great vid's and thumbs up.
You left one out: (1) a survival situation (2) ill equipped (3) you simply enjoy doing it. That justifies it. But personally, I just bought a Wetterlings Forest Axe, so I relate to your point. I don't baton anymore.
Wako, that is VERY exciting about your rife permit! I remember your mentioning in one of your videos that you have to use shotgun slugs for several years before being eligible for a rifle permit. The wait is almost over! My favorite is the .308. I reload, and have developed a favorite .308 cartridge. I wish I could send you some to try. -Scott
Good choices. I own both those calibres and your reasoning is sound. I bet youll be surprised though at how well the 308 can do for longer range pasture shots with the right bullet. The 270 is a great long range deer rifle though for sure.
I don't think large angle is great for hunting. I just found the most appropriate angle for hunting to avoid edge troubles is a bit larger than the best angle for wood whittling to bite wood nicely. Anyway you say what I wanted to say very well. Thank you! 3V is harder but is not more prone to chipping in my current experiences. Therefore I cannot reach the true reason. I don't think 3V needs more supporting material than A2 not to chip because 3V is tougher. Current 3V doesn't chip but rolls.
Sir. I know you thinking about "edge angle" on hunting knives and i have nothing to argue about that, but... For survival a more obtuse angle is a must. If you get "micro rolls" with that kind of wood (really soft), what you will get in a "real survival situation"?! My advice is to test it out on your forest wood and "close the angle" until it stop to roll. With time and "real life survival practice" you will get to the same conclusion. I wish you all the best...
Do you still have your Trailguide my friend? Original marketing as worlds sharpest hunting knife....hence the term "Blackjack sharp". Great video. Is the cutlet the breaded and deep fried? Ill try that this fall. thx

I am understanding what you mean. The survival angle should be even larger than the hunting angle. What you say is convincing. Thanks!
I like saw and baton for some reason. Thanks.

Now in 2020 do you recommend 3v over A2 for a general survival/bush-craft knife?
Good choices. The 270 shoots very flat and is comfortable to shoot. I have both calibres also. Have fun finding which ammunition your rifles prefer.
Interesting video. Well explained. You sure love that fire box!

Good stuff...I think the batoning insanity is for fun, entertainment and building confidence. also to get your money worth.....use em.
When you baton, try pushing down hard on the handle of the knife. Make a big difference and is safer too
I have a 30-06, it's like a 270 but with a much bigger heavier bullet
Deer season is coming! What rifles and calibres did you get? Have you thought of going to Africa?
I got it. I am a batoning beginner. Thank you for the tip!

Can u also show some corrosion resistant property's between the a2 and cpm3v steel. Thanks
CPM3V is pretty rust resistant unless you keep it wet over night. A2 takes rust after 2 hours in a wet sheath.
wat is te best wood for a knife handle?
also that bottle mayo looks scary...
Hey Wako, how many more years do you have before you can buy and use a center fire rifle? Have you decided on calibre yet....308, 270, 30-06?
Hello! Very interesting! Do you still think that A2 is better than 3V?
No. The 3V is semi stainless and extremely tough, twice as excellent as the A2.
Mayonnaise, the finest condiment known to man.
Need a hatchet? Looks like too much work..
Say Heah, I like 3V in the Bravo 1.5.,,.
